Australia vs India | 2nd Test | Perth | Dec 14-18, 2018 | Day 4 Thread

"“I know he’s your captain but you can’t seriously like him as a bloke"

Kohli owned twice by Paine.

GOAT Aussie captain.

:vk2

Rahane should come out blazing like he has all series so far.

Nothing to lose.

Virat Kohli has failed in all major chases in Tests this year

Capetown 208
Centurian 287
Edgbaston 194
Southampton 243
Perth 287
Choked the chase which he got close as well in Adelaide.

Don't forget the collapse in the CT Final where Amir owned him twice in two balls.

We need a psychiatrist to sort out our 4th innings woes. I am pretty sure we can't chase anything above 100 on a SENA wicket batting last.

I will never forget this quote! What a legend, COMEON AUSTRALIA
Don't forget the comment yesterday which shut him again.

Whenever Kohli opens his mouth, he ends up looking like a fool.

Kohli's a poet, when his mouth's shut.

What a Test - Indian pacers scared Aussies with pace & bounce, now Aussie spinner is running through Indian batting!!!

Very true, if he would just play the game and not make unnecessary comments or celebrations he would be liked all over the world.

Paine to Vijay - "I know he’s your captain but you can’t seriously like him as a bloke"

That's just funny whether you like Kohli or not.

It's funny because it's probably true, I doubt many of his teammates like him outside cricket.

He's too confrontational and serious, he come off like this in interviews.

Australia putting India in their rightful place! Exciting passage of play. Come on Starc, knock a couple of fast bowlers down and you won't have to worry about them for the next two test! :yk

Did you watch Kohli's dismissal yesterday? What do you think, out or not out? How can umpires deal with such situations better in the future? Asking the last question because during such instances the decision making appears very inconsistent.

Tim Paine is probably my favorite captain now! What a line.. he just took down Kohli and all his achievements with a single line #Legend #GOAT

India are so lucky Smith and Warner aren't playing or this series could have been over by now.

Interesting how the word 'luck' isn't thrown around while talking about Australia's farcical series triumph in India, 2004. Not disputing what you said but just an interesting observation about public perception.

On another note, Lyon is too good. Probably as good as Yasir in the subcontinent and better everywhere else!

That has to be the nicest and most realistic sledge ever in cricket :yk

Oh boy I loved it. Salute to Paine for calling it out. He echoed the sentiments of the entire cricketing world, including most of the Indians. I'm sure even Indians hate the guts of Kohli. He has a terrible 4th innings record and yet he dares to sledge others.

Don't care if we're 130 all out.

Smash everything.

Poor Indian team can't even compete against this Australia D team and you want to include Smith and Warner too? They would have smashed Indians into submission by this time now.

lol, don't you get tired parroting this same line every minute? I get it, you don't like India and Kohli in particular.

And to cite the absence of those 2 cheats repeatedly is so cringe worthy.

Yeah nothing to lose.

Yeah, there is no chance in hell that Hanuma Rahane and Pant can get anywhere near the target. its best to slog and get all out today so they can atleast deny ACB one day of ticket revenue :smith

Those 2 cheats got what they deserved. Eng test team should definitely feel unlucky for facing wrath of these 2 cheats in Ashes last year! Don't know how many more teams did they cheat before that..

I have a question for the knowledgeable PPers. What is Kohli's average in 4th innings in SENA? Match winning aside, does he have at least a single match saving knock? I can't remember even a single one of them!

More importantly does he have any match winning/match saving 1st or 2nd innings hundreds in SENA countries? Or all he does his glory hundreds to only see his side ultimately lose?

India have four batsmen averaging in the 20-40 range in their lineup and another who has been a tailender more often than not overseas. They need to fix this and get a solid top six so that it's not Kohli or nothing anymore.

Shaw is a once-in-a-generation talent so maybe he can provide some support for his captain. More importantly, India need to win the toss and drop Yadav who is rubbish.

When the captain himself can't face pressure and chickens out in any important chase, can you blame the other players?

He doesn't have more than a couple of match-winning or saving hundreds in SENA but that does not matter unless his fans start making outrageous claims like "Kohli is better than Kallis/Amla/Younis/Dravid/Cook/Sangakkara".

Yes, because the captain already scored a hundred runs in the match. He needs other players to support him.

Match is lost but if Vihari can kick out Hitman forever from no 6 spot, I will be over the moon.

Scoring in first innings is relatively easy. Not much pressure, ball not doing much. Of course Kohli does well there. 2nd innings always ask the real questions to players and those who stand out will be counted as greats.

Compete?? We are 1-0 up mate and yes most probably be 1-1 at the end of this , but to say that we have not competed with them is plain cringe worthy. The fact that all these comments are coming right after Kohli got out tells me all i need to know. Chasing this total on this pitch against the bowling of Starc, Cummins, Haz, Lyon is almost impossible for even GOAT batting lineups.

ODI thinking.

Bat properly, rotate the strike, wear the bowlers down. Get closer to the target then you can be more expansive.

Can you list out a few players who scored fourth innings match winning hundreds?

He is clueless, forgive him.

Not really. These are a good group of bowlers but not greatest by any means. Teams have done well against better attacks in more trying circumstances.

Oh my!!! Why so bitter mate ? I agree not having a player of his class ..( well not even a quarter of his class) in your team hurts you severely. But really ?? This bitter???

On the basis of this test, we can safely say Vihari has done enough to keep Rohit out of India's test team.

Ya' think?

Rohit has a lifetime membership to making returns to the team as long as Shaoli are in charge.

Nothing bitter. India needed Kohli the most today and he couldn't save them. Just asked some basic stats. Have nothing against him personally.

Not really. Stop trolling. Kohli batted very well in Australia, as usual. The pitches suit him. His captaincy however, has been awful and he's easily the worst captain in the world currently, considering the resources at his disposal.

India should be proud with the way this new guy Vihari is batting. I think you guys found a good batsman in him. Difficult runs being scored!

Come on now I'm not trolling. He did bat well in the first innings but failed in the 2nd. Is that wrong?

Vihari is the Indian Hafeez. A solid, useful player who will win his team games in Asia, provide great balance but also have some garbage moments.

He's played 2 tests and he's not even a bowler. How do you know any of this?

Maybe India should drop both openers, push Pujara to open with Shaw and have Vihari at #3. Not a bad idea looking at the ease with which he's playing..

The match was lost after conceding 300+ runs in the first innings on this pitch! The way to win this match was getting the opponent out below 150 runs in the first innings (that's what any ATG side which we can talk about would do in this match! Not necessarily they had to chase 250+ in the fourth innings to win! They would never put themselves into that position in the 1st place!

The reason why India is in this position is majorly because of "Selection Issues!" This is what is happening right through SA, England and is continuing in this tour as well...!

Honestly , if Australia were 97-4 chasing 287 against us, I'd be still be feeling jittery and nervous. But , look at the Aussies, they already know the result thanks to the mindless indian low order.

We have Shami batting at #8. ::J

Virat scored 141 in the 4th innings in Adelaide in 2014 chasing 364.

Also has a match winning 105* in 4th innings chase in New Zealand.

We still need one more new batsman in that scenario. Don't tell me it's Rohit.

Match winning? LOL, they drew and he should have been out early in the innings. He nicked off but wasn't given (no drs back then).

Btw this was on day 5 when the result was a given, had he been given we could have pushed for an unlikely victory.

These two have retrieved the situation somewhat but everything goes to nought if a wicket is lost by the end of play.

Looks like India will make it to Day 5.

Congratulations to both teams for fighting it out on this treacherous pitch

It was done and dusted when Kohli got out. This is just prolongation of the game

7 overs left, can Aus ask for 30 more mins if they have India 8 down?

Losing to this Australian team is going to be a new low for India, with the resources they have it's embarrassing. This is possibly the worst Australian batting line up ever and they have a losing record in every format. Heck, I this is going to be their FIRST TEST WIN since Warner and Smith were banned.

Losing not just once, mind you.

We'll lose 1-3. Wait and watch.

I knew we were going to lose at Perth as soon as I hear Shastri say after Adelaide 'To hell with the nets'

Who speaks like that with still 3 tests to go?
