Australia vs India | 4th Test | Sydney | Jan 3-7, 2019 | Day 1 Thread

Australian cricket fans must hate Pujara with a passion. If it weren't for him Aussies would be leading the series...
He's been the biggest thorn in their side. Absolute class and the biggest difference between the two teams.

Fantastic ton by Pujara again. He has been the difference between two sides so far.
He had MOTS locked up after the third Test.

Hopefully he gets all the plaudits if India win this series.

India is not making 450 here unless Pujara goes big.

450 is impossible. They should aim for 350 and that should be enough. Kuldeep can bamboozle some of these inexperienced Aussies

Draw series you mean? Aus won't be playing for drawing this test.

For some reason I thought that India needed to win this test to win this series. Now there is almost no chance for an Australian win here (at worst it will be a draw), so India have effectively won the series.

Why? India all out for 300-320 will keep Aus in the game.

This is what Azhar Ali needs to learn from Pujara. Pujara has scored 29 off the last 30 balls. It looks like he is batting 113. He's completely demoralizing Australia here. Azhar on the other hand would've taken 30 balls to score 3 runs even if he was on 113. Pujara with his quick scoring is easing off the pressure on Vihari considerably allowing him to bed in.

Let's not count our chickens.

We need min 400 to be safe, you never know who might step up for Aus could be Cummins again and all he needs is one more Aussie!

2nd new ball will decide this series. 2 wickets here will make it interesting.

Good to see the positive intent and scoring rate improved in this match! This will give more chance of winning (3-1 is a better score line than 2-1 and it tells proper domination level against the depleted Australian side and all our lost efforts in England & South Africa! 4-0 would have been even better!)

I am not certain how the hosts will fare against spinners on this pitch which should be good for batting for 4 days . India imo is safe now at 274/4 .

If it's good for batting, Aus should be fine against spin. On turning track they are hopeless.

Indian batsman are not facing Lungi or Vernon here. Come to think of it Mighty Pujara was even dropped in RSA series I remember.

You are underrating how good Aus have bowled. There is huge difference in SA pitches we saw recently and Aus pitches.

THis is some of the oustanding fast bowling i have seen in AUstralia over the years. Last time i saw this good bowling was when Brett Lee bowled in 2007. But he was the lone warrior. Johnson was manhandled by Rahane and Kohli in the last tour. They just ran into couple of good batsmen.

Aus bowlers have bowled very well. Pujara has been the difference here.

India looks safe I feel. Should definitely get 350+ and from there I don't see Australia having the batting to deal against it.

So now Ozzie bowlers are ordinary as well? Lol

Are you really talking **** about Starc, Hazlewood, and Cummins?

Got a feeling we are in for a draw here .

I won't put it past as if you want to survive you can do. NOt a difficult pitch yet. Once in a while ball misbehaves. So far Agarwal threw his wicket away. Kohli got unlucky. Rahul is Rahul. Rahane moronic concentration level.

So Lungi is better than Starc, Hazlewood, and Cummins. That's why Bangladesh languishes at the bottom. Their fans have zero understanding of cricket.

Amount of blows both teams got on their body in this series is countless.

Great thing is that batsmen have still able to get back and play normally. Specially Indians. Willing to take a blow on body and not get nervous has helped Indians a lot.

Why didn't Australia pick Maxwell instead of this very average spinner and very average batsman Marnus Labuschange? His domestic stats are below par and most australians were very surprised at his selection for 4th test.

If this new dude Vihari plays for 100 balls then Aus can kiss good bye to this test. He is scoring too freely.

Pujara's knuckles need treatment. He is a real throwback to the 70s cricket. Facing the chin music without fear.

This is not one dayer where he can reverse sweep balls for six. He is a lottery guy especially against pacers like Bumrah.

My views are neutral. I am not sure why you guys want to make Starc, Hazlewood, and Cummins second coming of Malcolm Marshall, Courtly Amrose, and Courtney Walsh.

Lol Vihari scoring hitting a 4 each over at the start of the over

You will realise when Bangladeshi batsmen fail to make 50 runs here in Australia.

Looks like RainMan has hacked the account of Aman and BDfanforever. They are acting weird today.

I dont know how Australia can win from here.

Yea I know its possible, but their batting gives me no hope that they can score 350 in their first innings, a score which India will look to comfortable cross tomorrow.

350 gives infinitely more chances than 450 ;)

Aus needs to bowl India out around 350 here.

Agarwal emphasizes the importance of having a good opener. THey set the tone for rest of the players.

New ball is a double edged sword. Few balls moved. So they kept pitching up. Paid full price.

True, but Aus best chance was this new ball. I am still hopeful. If Aus doesn't do anything with new ball in the first 25 overs then this game is gone.

Are you delusional or what? Aussies without Smith and Warner will struggle to score this in both innings combined

These Australian commies should toss aside their bias once in a while instead of praying in the commentary box for a wicket.

Are you watching this series or simply trolling all the time? Aus has scored 292 and 326 earlier in this series. There is no reason they can't again make around 300 if they apply themselves.

Very good day for india. Bat another 70 overs and take the life out their bowlers. Anything other than a 3-1 thrashing is unacceptable at this point.

India finish Day 1 of the 4th Test on a comfortable 303/4 (90.0 Ovs) with a solid performance by Pujara as he remains not out on 130*, with Vehari on 39*;
