After the controversial MCG Test, where India lost to Australia, the series now moves to the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Australia is aiming to win this match to secure their first Test series victory against India since 2015 and qualify for the WTC final.

Meanwhile, India can still draw the series and retain the biggest Test series in world cricket, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT).

India needs to make a few changes, such as replacing Kohli, Rohit, and Jadeja. But can they do it? I don’t think so.

So, what is the best possible playing XI for India, knowing that they are unlikely to drop the senior trio (Rohit, Virat, and Jadeja)?

I think India will win in Sydney as it is a venue where spinners do well.

2-2 series drawn in my opinion. India will retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

If it's a venue where spinners do well than how do you think India is gonna win this??
They are the worst team against spin. If lyon gets even a 2° to 3° turn in Sydney you will see kohli eating pasta in a dressing room after playing hard fought 20 balls.

Pitch will be flat so toss will be important .
The way this series has gone for india apart from the perth test i wont be surprised if australia wins the toss and bat first. Looking at the trends it shows us that the first two days are batting friendly here and Australia will definitely capitalise on it and will again score around 450-500. It will be the same story like Melbourne. This time jaiswal will score a ton and lower order will contribute with 100 120 runs and they will eventually lose it like Melbourne and this time the main headache will be Nathan Lyon.
Take this in writing.

So what is best possible playing eleven for india knowing they will not dropped senior Trimurti ( Rohit, Virat and Jadeja)
There is no competition for jadeja as we need 2 spinners.lets hope one last time both leeches will play and retire.i just hope they will retire from odis too but they will play ct too shamelessly and spoil our chances .Both ddp and jurel will feel lot at home on scg and score.but we are not so fortunate . I guess one more loss after jaiswal's daddy 100 almost like laxman's 167 at scg.

MCG victory on par with Edgbaston as Cummins looks ahead to SCG

Australia skipper delighted with Test victory over arch-rivals to claim 2-1 series lead in front of record-breaking crowd and provides an update on the fitness of Mitchell Starc ahead of the final Test in Sydney.
By Jonathan Healy

Victorious Australia captain Pat Cummins believes his side's gripping victory over India in the Boxing Day Test is one of the most memorable triumphs of his career.

Australia had to wait right until the final hour on Day 5 to clinch the famous win over their arch-rival, with veteran spinner Nathan Lyon delivering the match-winning blow when he trapped Mohammed Siraj LBW much to the excitement of the massive crowd in attendance at the MCG.

It was memorable for Cummins on more than one account as it provides Australia with an excellent chance of winning back the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and puts them in a great position to join South Africa in booking a place at next year's ICC World Test Championship Final at Lord's.

Given what was on the line, Cummins said the win was at least on par with Australia's famous Test triumph over England in Birmingham during the most recent Ashes series in 2023.

"Everyone was walking off (the ground) trying to work out where it sits and I reckon that's right at the top," a jubilant Cummins said after Australia's 184-run victory and being adjudged Player of the Match for his six wickets across the two innings and pair of scores in the 40s.

"Edgbaston was pretty special and I reckon that's pretty much on par. It was amazing."

More than 74,000 people packed into the MCG on Monday to watch the momentum continue to swing during the final day of an epic fourth Test, with the crowd across the entire contest reaching a phenomenal figure of 373,691 which broke the record figure at the ground that was achieved against England across six days back in 1937.

And the crowd certainly got value for their attendance, with the fortunes of the match swinging wildly across the five days as both sides enjoyed periods of dominance in an enthralling battle that was comparable to a heavyweight boxing fight.

"When you take all that into account, it's probably the best Test match I've been involved in," Cummins suggested.

“There was about 80,000 (people) on the first three days and, I don’t know what the crowd was today, but it was huge.

"It felt like it (the match) swung a lot as well. It felt like we were so far ahead of the game that a win looked certain, so overall it was just one of those great wins."

And while Cummins suggested his team will rightfully celebrate the victory in style tonight, the captain would love nothing better than finishing the job in Sydney with another victory over India to re-claim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and clinch Australia's spot at next year's World Test Championship Final.

To do that the Aussies will need Mitchell Starc to be fit and firing in Sydney and although Cummins admitted the fast bowler was battling an ailment, he expects the experienced left-armer to be a certain starter for the final Test of the series that commences at the SCG on January 3.

"I'm pretty confident he will be fine," Cummins said of Starc.

"We will reassess it in a couple of days as he's managing a couple of sore bits. Mainly one sore bit on his ribs or something, but he's a warrior.

"He gets through it, his pace didn't drop off, he never even contemplates not being an option to bowl, so other than being in pain, he's fully fit and available."

So same eleven as Rohit and virat are not going to dropped but most likely they will play last test of their careers .

Jadeja and Sundar will play as an spinner and Reddy is not going to dropped after MCG knock

Only Siraj can be replaced by any other pacer.

After being humiliated at home and whitewashed by NZ, India really need to to win this Test to draw the series. That would be a big moral victory because a back to back Test series loss does not suit a big country like India.

First part is true. Losing the 3-0 against NZ at home was one the biggest humiliation for india.

But losing against Australia in australia is surely not After the last two series win in australia.

Most of fans including me expected 5-0 whitewashed but Bumrah single handley kept the indian team alive untill the final test.

Once Rohit return as an captain after Perth test ,we were/ are back to Losing streaks

I hope Rohit / Kohli can take rest / injured from last test than see how we will perform under bumrah.

Great news for India, Starc may miss after Hazlewood, Head may exhibit the same double failures owing to hiding continued tussle with groin injury

SCG has been a phatta for a while, it used to spin before.

I just wish Rohit retires before this test for us to atleast compete.
Key for a result at SCG is not to have any rain at all. Not a drop.

Whenever there's even a little bit of rain, the pitch never deteriorates enough or at least not in the time remaining.

Don't care what happens now as long as they persist with these PR driven King and hitman. It is not only they carry them. But also they influence commentators to hype them as they want more crowd in. Especially Kohli.

India neither has the batting Quality, or the bowling depth to win. They are reliant on individual performances.

I can definitely see curators preparing a absolute Road (weather permitting) to ensure Australia wins this series.

It has been a brilliantly fought series and Aus have been made to work hard to win 2 of the last 3 tests. Let's see what happens in the fifth test. But it will be worth a watch I believe.

Nah series is still important .we have to win this test to retain the series.

We can do it but there will be rains on Day 4 and 5 .

I don't care about WTC but this series is very important .

Had it not been for the rain,
Australia would have already won the series and they would have been 3-1 and they would be 4-1 after this test.

Although after conclusion of Sydney test it would be 3-1 which sounds nice as well.

Let's go australia make them cry again.

Virat kohli is the biggest superstar india has produced.

Dropping him is not easy,he has huge fan following in India

Coincidentally today in my university when i passed by few girl students.

I don't think girls here follow cricket that passionately certainly not test cricket but they were talking about him how he has only scored 3 runs and they were kind of disappointed.

I don't think india can afford to drop him unless he retires he will keep playing especially these high profile series.

Personally i want him to play to play for 3-4 years more.

They are not capable of winning it. One guy who could have made difference was forced to retire. Jadeja is darting here instead of turning. So it will be upto Sundar. Sundar is no Ashwin. But he is still better option in Australia than Jadeja given his height. But for some reason our geniue captain treats him as a part timer.

I thought Jaiswal is a very humble and honest guy. Wasn't expecting him to stay and confront when he already knew he hit it.
Cause he knew he dropped 3 dollies lmao. Guess wanted to stick up for the team to show he is committed.

It's ok. Move on now. What can we do. Dropped catches are part of the game.

If Rohit doesn't play ,then our chances increase by 50%, even if doesn't score runs also OK but his Captaincy really hurts india chances immensely, one of the worst captain , even worse than Dhoni

Only if shami is there to support Bumrah then the result will be different completely even with rohit worst Captaincy

Gill will play.

I have a feeling Rohit will be dropped and he will retire.

Kohli will get one more Test. If he fails in the final Test, its curtains down for him too.
Rohit is quite shameless. I dont think he will excuse himself with imaginary fitness issues as ct is around the corner otherwise he will for sure. He should not have come to the party. If he was not there, it may have been easy to take out kohli. Kohli is latching on to that pathetic unfit captain

Rohit will make a daddy 100 in the next match and secure his place in the team for another 2 years.

Even his body or stomach is not moving let alone foot .Cummins had his number. 44 balls 11 runs 4 wickets. All good length deliveries around off stump did the trick

I think India will bring in Subhman Gill , but do not know how , may be they drop Pant and make Rahul keep.

If india still keeps Rohit and Kohli for this game, they are destined to be doomed and lose. There is no way these guys would have been in the team, even if it was Pakistan LOL.

Crazy... Pant should also be rested IMO

They will be there.

If I was Bumrah, I would take a rest from last test and focus and stay fit for IPL coming up later in the year. Brother Siraj can take lead on IND bowling attack.

Same for Starc, he also need rest.

Well then India should better get ready for another defeat...
I am hoping so. Because that's the only way atleast Rohit may consider retirement from test. Kohli will be difficult to weed out so no hope on that part.

These two won't be dropped under any circumstances so retirement is perhaps the only way out.

Cannot read the crystal ball: Gavaskar on Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli's Test future

Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has expressed concern over the lack of impactful contributions from senior players Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Speaking exclusively to India Today, Gavaskar pointed out that the duo's inability to deliver has been a major factor in India's struggles against a dominant Australian side led by Pat Cummins.

India's hopes of reaching the World Test Championship Final suffered a severe blow after a 184-run defeat in the Melbourne Test. Gavaskar highlighted that India's premier batters have failed to rise to the occasion, especially during critical moments. On Day 5 of the MCG Test, when India needed to bat out 90 overs to secure a draw, Rohit and Kohli fell cheaply, contributing just 9 and 3 runs, respectively. Their dismissals set the tone for India's collapse to 155 in 79.1 overs.

"It actually all depends on the selectors. I'm not a good reader of the crystal ball, because in Indian cricket, nobody can read a crystal ball. That is a fact. But the contributions which were expected have not come. I don't think it's a lower order problem. It's the top order that has to contribute. So, I mean, the seniors have not really made the contribution that they should have and all that they had to do was to bat out today and live to fight another day in Sydney," Gavaskar said.

Rohit Sharma’s dismal form has been a recurring concern, with only 31 runs from six innings in the ongoing series. Across his last six Tests, he has managed just 123 runs, raising questions about his place in the side.

Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has also faced criticism despite showing glimpses of promise earlier. While 2023 saw a partial resurgence in his Test career, 2024 has been far less productive. Kohli has scored only 417 runs at an average below 25 this year. After a century in Perth at the start of the Australian campaign, he managed a mere 62 runs in the next three matches, further fueling speculation about his Test future.

As India prepares for the decisive Sydney Test, Gavaskar’s remarks underscore the mounting pressure on Kohli and Rohit to justify their stature and experience. Their form, or lack thereof, will likely be pivotal in determining whether India can salvage the series and keep their WTC hopes alive

Rohit will make a daddy 100 in the next match and secure his place in the team for another 2 years.
Rohit now doesn't have the stamina to last more than 30 balls OR play more than 2 pull shots. I agree in the past if the pitch was utter flat he would have scored a fluke 100 in tests...

Both are multi millionaires. Uber rich. WHy are they playing 5 day test matches? No idea. THey can retire and leave it to youngsters.

Why hasn't BCCI protested or took notice of Head's gesture, that was rude disrespectful and against the spirit of game, what message is he goving to all kids and youngsters.

Surely the authorities need to take notice and Head should apologise for this

"He'll Be Ready": Team India Sent 'Mitchell Starc' Warning For 5th Test Despite Rib Injury

Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey believes pace spearhead Mitchell Starc will "push through" the pain of a rib injury to play the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar series here beginning on Friday. The 34-year-old left-hand quick's fitness remains the primary worry for the hosts after he battled through sore ribs from day three of the Boxing Day Test but still managed to bowl effectively with help from the team's physios. "He'll be fine. He will push through," Carey told the media on Wednesday.

The Australian selectors will likely take a call on Starc's fitness closer to the Test but Carey said he had no concerns whatsoever about his teammate's fitness.

"I've played with Starcy (Mitchell Starc) for a long time now and he is one of the toughest cricketers that I've played with. He'll grimace and grab his rib without a doubt at times but he'll be ready for the contest." A victory or a draw in the fifth Test here is paramount for the hosts as it will help them regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time since 2014-15.

However, if India win the game, they will retain the trophy, winning the series for a record-extending fifth straight time.

If Starc were to be rested, fellow pacer Jhye Richardson would likely be called in as his replacement.

The 28-year-old last played a Test in December 2021, taking five second-innings wickets in the pink-ball Ashes clash against England at the Adelaide Oval.

Asked about the prospect of getting a call-up, Richardson told 'cricket.com.au' that he was not thinking too much about the selection.

"It's hard to think about that (prospect of playing the next Test). You can't spend too much energy wondering about what's going to happen with selections.

"(I'm) trying to not think about it too much but if the opportunity arises, I'll do my best to grab it."

What was he gesturing ?

@Rajdeep @Nikhil_cric @jnaveen1980 @JaDed

I think australia will prepare a patta pitch as they just want a draw to win this series.

This is what I am scared of an absolute flat phatta with Goalee and Korma scoring runs on a meaningless draw.

Result is Goalee plays another 3 or 4 more series and scores nothing and gives nothing to the team taking the spot from a promising player like Jurel.

I have nothing to complaint about head celebration and its show their culture so fair enough.

But when any indian player celebrate whatever way they wants then australian or any others should not cry like a children's .

Batting tracks suit Ind. Sooner or later the batsman will put a score on the board and you would think Yadav would spin it.

Yadav is not even squad .he had a surgery recently so don't know what is the status of his fitness .

Hopefully he will fit for champions trophy where we needs him .

2-2 series drawn in my opinion. India will retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
If Australia bats first then it is curtains for India.
Ashwin should have stayed for this one. Too bad he walked away in the middle of the series.

BCCI has made formal protest to both CA and ICC regarding umpiring.

If there is fair umpiring Team India will triumph.

The team is working hard and training well for the big moment. Everyone is united and all players are happy at the management of the BCCI.

They would not have chosen him. Also I think he doesn't have confidence playing under Rohit...

As per CI stats, of all the batsmen Courtney Walsh batting avg against aussies in 1996/97 tour is more than Rohit's avg in current bgt
