The century comes up for Faf du Plessis! 100 balls that is. (Faf 30* off 100, AB 17* off 125 balls) SA need 337. AUS need 6 wickets

Loving it great test batting.

The great wall of sa still to come, he can block for days with ease.

Horrible commentary from Slater:

"DEFINITELY hit the pad first"

2 secs later they show it didn't even touch the pad.

excellent batting by these two so far :14:.

Looking forward to 3rd session!!!

Aus needs one wicket to open the floodgates. If these two can bat for 30 more overs then Aus is in trouble.

From cricinfo commentary:

"Random stat: Slowest test 50 was scored by TE Bailey England v Australia Brisbane in 1958-59. It took him 357 mins /350 balls. AB has an opportunity to break that record today!"

Lyons new ball "Jeff" just beat Du Plessis all ends up. Looks a useful delivery but now he needs to get it to pitch on stump line, or deliver it from wider on the crease so it homes in at the stumps.

I can see Duplesis vs Azhar Ali/U Akmal/A Shafiq/Kohli/Pujara thread appearing soon.

Majority of threads are, Akmal VS Xyz till it becomes difficult to say Akmal and Xyz in same sentence. Then Xyz get replaced but Akmal always occupies one end. If not in match , at least in comparison threads he occupies one end for sure. :P

The OZ need a wicket soon to keep their spirits up.

One of them will some mistake sooner or later. 58 overs are lot to block. If they can block then hats off...

Seth Africa are hanging on here. Survived for 83 overs thus far but around 57 overs to go with 6 wickets in the bag. Can SA somehow pull a rabbit out of a hat here?

Lol that would be epic. 31 off 202 atm :junaid

Both batsmen have the composure to do this. Going for the draw makes things very simple. AB is a great player of spin, it must be Siddle who take him out.

That's Lunch on Day 5.

AB de Villiers (31* off 208 balls) and Faf du Plessis (49* off 177 balls) are defying the Australian bowlers.

South Africa needs 304 runs (or to survive 2 sessions).
Australia needs 6 wickets.

50s in both innings for Faf, great debut under tough circumstances

whoever wins, i hope the match goes to the last 10 overs at least.. but i suspect kallis is going to fail this time.

the stadium is almost empty...what happened to the cricket loving aussie crowd?

Last partnership, one more and AUS will run through the tail.

SA better off playing Robin Peterson instead of Tahir, he'll boost the lower order.

Commies going on about AUS not wanting to waste the referral, cricinfo saying they don't have any left.

That innings from de Villiers was the longest in Test history in terms of balls faced (where known) without a boundary."

Working day. In December many more people are on holidays but in November everyone is working to get things done before the Christmas/ New Year holidays. I don't think many people wanted to come down & watch SA block all day. Would be more of they were going for the runs.

SA have let a lot of fans down so far; Steyn has been listless & Philander looked like a club bowler. Their batting has been slow.

If it is close by 4pm expect few more in as they sometimes do free tickets on day 5.

No sane person will enter ground after watching how SA batted last session of 4th day

Boycott's innings at Perth in 1978/79 was a longer boundaryless knock. Although credited with 1 four, it was a 2 plus 2 overthrows - the ball never made it to the rope. - cricinfo

I back the Saffers to draw this one. Lyon dropped a tough catch, albeit a tough one, which could cost Australia.

Lyon has to get a couple of wickets here, he is the man Australians would be looking up to.

Must have realized that despite the high amount of Saffas in this team, they weren't playing England so no real need to go.

That and working day

Seth Africa not just need another Test spinner. They need a specialist wk as well me thinks. AB has looked just a fraction of the Test batsmen he used to be before putting on the wk gloves. His numbers also show that. An average of nearly 51 when not keeping compared to an average of just 31 when keeping. Huge difference. Sangakkara has averaged close to 70 since giving up the gloves (ave of around 40 as wk). SA really need to think hard about this because atm they are missing out imo.

Warner has a nice action but it's obvious he has not bowled much in any level.

If Kallis is injured for perth I'll play the specialist keeper and play AB as a batsman.

Getting mighty tired of people predicting draw just becuase 10 wickets havent fallen in a session. There is a long way to go and five wickets to get.

How come, offices here don't allow staff to surf the net :P
