Australia have a a very good conundrum going into the WC. Warner,Finch,Smith, and Khawaja all make the team on merit. The problem is where to fit them. Do Australia start all 4 or bring Shaun Marsh in for one of the other 4 ? And which position in the order do they come ?

Warner Finch Khawaja Smith.
Smith just needs to play through to the end and Finch and Warner can just go extra hard

Shaun Marsh is a very good ODI player but you can’t leave Warner, Finch and Smith out, and Khawaja has been in excellent form lately.

Australia will go with Warner and Finch as openers, Khawaja at 3 and Smith at 4. If Khawaja fails for a few games, Shaun Marsh will probably come in for him.

1. Aaron Finch
2. David Warner
3. Usman Khawaja
4. Steven Smith
5. Glenn Maxwell
6. Marcus Stoinis
7. Alex Carey

Shaun Marsh is the most likely to miss the XI. I'll have him batting in the warm up match tomorrow though, at 5.

Aus is a bit overrated .There current team is not playing together for some time so gelling up and settling one combination might be issue.if they do some how reach semifinal they will win due to there strong mentality and aggressive cricket

Their batting order is perfect - it’s added benefit that Usman is in brilliant form, so they can push Smith one slot down, which makes it more solid. They always had the blasting power, inform Usman at 3 has made the mix perfectly balanced.

I think, still Shaun will find a place at No. 5, pushing Maxwell at 6 - Stoinis might miss out for Jhye Richardson if they want extra bowling cover; otherwise Stoinis & Maxwell (+ Finch) can cover for 20 overs.

Warner
Finch
Usman
Smith
SMarsh
Maxi
Carey
Strac
Cummins
Zampa
Jhye
................ over rated XI indeed😜

Jhye is already out of the world cup due to injury & replaced by kane richardson.

Thanks, I didn’t know. Then, may be NCN - normally Aussies don’t sacrifice bowling to strengthen batting - Stoinis won’t play as 10 overs bowler - if he makes it, then Shaun or Usman will be dropped.

Ponting has talked a lot about Stonis. I think he will start but that line up you has given is very strong.

Me and you said months ago to stop writing Australia off. Now people talking about them as winners.......

There Batting is good , on there day they will do really well , but at some point they will collapse.

Warner
Finch
Khawja
Smith
maxwell
Stonis
Carey

That is what the lineup should be.

Maybe time for a change.

Khawaja doesn’t seem to work if he isn’t opening. Steve Smith has a excellent record at 3. He is perfect for that role. He can play the role that Root and Williamson do for their teams. Shaun Marsh is a specialist middle order player with a good ODI record. He is also capable of playing at 4 and adjusting his game to the situation. I think he is a better player of spin than Khawaja.

Would not be surprised if Shaun Marsh played against South Africa or New Zealand to see if he should play in the semis.

Their bowling combination is fixed now - I think, Zampa will come back, because Maxi is also Offie. Stoinis is giving a good balance with bat & few overs, while B'dorf is the missing piece they were looking for.

Only question mark is Usman or Shaun - that also determines where Smith bats. I also think, Usman will be dropped for next game and Shaun will bat at 4.

The problem is khwaja. He is not good enough to play unless the wicket is flat. Australia need to play top 4 of

Finch
Warner
Smith
Marsh

That's a solid top 4 and can lay the platform for stoinis/Carey/Maxwell to accelerate at the death. Khwaja can only play as opener on an ultra flat pitch. Useless otherwise

Khwaja is special case he is not doing that well but he should not be dropped from india game he always performed against them

Useless Khawaja should be dropped. Marsh should come in place of him. Why do they waste their energy trying to fit Khawaja in.

I think Lyon will stay in the team for now. He bowled well
Also Berendorff did bowl well but I think he is more suited to conditions from yesterday. I think he would have issues on a flatter pitch , but for now he will stay in.

Steve Smith must bat at 3. He is a better player than Khawaja who doesn't look great if he isnt opening. I think Shaun Marsh will come in. If he doesn't fire in these 2 games , Khawaja will play in the semis then.
