What's new

Babar Azam hits 122 as Pakistan [205/1] demolish South Africa [203/5] by 9 wickets in 3rd T20I

120 off 56 is insane.
Unreal from babar.

Doesn't matter if majority of the bowling was terrible legside trash. Babar hit good balls for boundaries as well

Today’s first innings match thread and 2nd innings match thread just shows that some of our fans need to be bit more level headed.

First thread was all doom and gloom and now Pak cricket is once again shining. Hyping as well as gloom can both be toned down a bit. :smith
Not really. While delighted and pleasantly surprised by this performance, just goes to show how inconsistent this lot are.

A 50-ball 50, followed by one of the most crushing T20 knocks on South African soil. Sums up our cricket nicely.

Well, it looks like win the toss win the match in Centurion. If SA bats second in the next match, no amount of score is defendable.

Wow Ahmad Shahzad got Pakistan’s highest ever T20 score waay back in 2014. Imagine abhi kya karta with how batting friendly this era is

I am so impressed beyond impressed. Babar is so good and Rizwan mashallah. That celebration was so good.

I think the first innings disappointment was warranted - we bowled poorly IMO and pulled it back somewhat as, given the SA start, 203 is less than they were on course for.

15 4s and 4 6s by Babar and SR of over 200. However, obviously he cant hit the ball. Man those gears of Markram are unmatchable.

Damn he's out and given leverage to those that say he doesn't win games for Pak!

Congrats babar.
Surpassed Ahmed’s score too. Finally we have other batsmen who can make t20 centuries

Damn you Lizard, wanted 10 wicket win.

Now Fakhar comes in after that carnage :))

I agree it wasnt upto the mark. However, I have observed with our fans that they take the disappointment further than an innings or a match and start thinking as how its a dark day for Pak cricket after one innings. For example, just look at the over the top responses for Babar’s last 50, everyone ignoring it was one bad day for him.

Nice touch from Markram to go up to Babar on his dismissal. Class.

That has to be Pakistan's best T20I victory in a bilateral series.

Thought this was the decider. Theres apparently one more game.

What a innings by babar his best innings to date.good innings by rizwan with plenty of energy and impressive running in the middle.

Wow amazing by babar he did something kohli couldnt get 100 runs in t20 international amazing job.

I remember a time were if a team scored 200 or even 180 pak batting line up would crumble to 135-145ish.

Babar , rizwan, and fakhar are great players for pakistan

Damn dude damn!!!! What a game and what a chase. My prediction is still on the cards with 3-1

The worst South African attack I could ever dream of.

This bowling attack reminds me of Zimbabwe's current bowling attack. Even Henry Olanga will school these pacers. Shamsi is a poor man's Ashwin in T20s and he proved it.

Issue lelo tissue :))

What a win.

Great batting by Babar, really showed himself and others that he can bat at those high gears. The question is about how consistently he can do so.

Batting masterclass by Babar once again.. What scintillating knock... Proper cricket shots with exclusive timing .... One of the finest knocks to watch as highlights...His inns was under cruise control..

50 off 50 to 122 off 59, damn Babar. SA D bowling lineup or not, this is great stuff.

The worst bowling performance I have ever had the misfortune of watching. You would back the Zimbabwe U-15 to bowl better.

It was embarrassing to watch.

Woohoo love it!

Way to go Babar.

Feel bad for the haters on this one... at innings break they were probably getting real excited.

Mashallah Rizzy was fasting

Yeah was coming to post that! Levels of admiration go up! Babar spoke so highly of him as a source of inspiration; this lobbying for Sarfraz surely can't be coming from Babar.

Stop embarrassing yourself. I was equally appalled by our bowling performance, but learn to give credit where its due. This was an outstanding knock under pressure.

It was embarrassing to watch.

No one would back Zimbabwe U-15 to bowl better. No one wouldn't even back your Indian U-15 bowlers to bowl better.
Your bhangra during South Africas innings didn't last long. Go wipe your tears.
And all I've seen in other threads and on here since the win is your usual stupid theories of would do, could do.

If facing this type of bowling is pressure than I wonder what real pressure feels like. These South African bowling made Pakistan’s bowling today look world class.

If I were the South African bowling coach, I would resign today if not hang myself from my ceiling fan.

Rizwan fasting is a true testament of heart curage and belief remarkable fitness levels

so has Lake Blood of the wristslitters frozen over yet? Many were ready to cut their wrists the other day!!

This is not even the best T20I innings by a Pakistani batsman. The quality of bowling today cannot even described in words. It was that bad.

TSHWANE: A spectacular century by Babar Azam helped Pakistan secure a 2-1 lead in their four-match KFC T20 International Series against the Proteas after they comfortably won match three by nine wickets at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Wednesday.

The visiting captain struck 122 off just 59 balls (15 fours, 4 sixes) and shared in a record 197-run opening partnership with vice-captain Mohammad Rizwan, who ended unbeaten on 73 off 47 balls (5 fours, 2 sixes), as the tourists chased down 204 with two overs to spare.

Earlier on, half-centuries by the in-form Aiden Markram (63 off 31 balls, 6 fours, 4 sixes) and Janneman Malan (55 off 40 balls, 5 fours, 2 sixes) provided South Africa with a strong start that put them on course for well beyond 200, before they tailed off slightly at the end.

And Pakistan then made merry at a venue they have not lost at so far on their tour, securing a key win that meant they now cannot lose the series with just one match to come on Friday.

The Asian side won the toss and opted to field first, but that looked the wrong call as Markram and Malan both flew out of the blocks.

The former scored his third successive half-century, with Malan going on to record his maiden 50 in the format in an opening stand that yielded 108.

George Linde, promoted to bat at three, clubbed 22 off 11 balls to maintain the momentum, before he and Malan fell in quick succession.

That brought two new men to the crease in Rassie van der Dussen and skipper Heinrich Klaasen. The pair were not as free-scoring as the men before them, scoring 34 not out and 15 respectively, with Andile Phehlukwayo finishing the innings with 11 off eight balls.

The South African bowlers were then humbled by the incredible Babar and Rizwan as they attacked throughout.

They raised the 50 in the sixth over and the 100 in the 10th over, before beating the highest partnership total for any wicket of 143 between Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Hafeez against Zimbabwe at Harare in 2013.

Babar then went on to score his maiden ton, before progressing that to the highest individual T20I score ever by a Pakistani.

He finally fell to Lizaad Williams (1/34) with seven to get, before Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman (eight) carried their side home with 12 balls to spare.

While it was a really good t20 innings, the quality of bowling was apalling cant be described in words.

This is not even the best T20I innings by a Pakistani batsman. The quality of bowling today cannot even described in words. It was that bad.

Great win from PK. 200+ in 18 overs with just 1 wicket down. Kudos. Good to get such chases now and then as it helps when big games come up.

Pakistan took a 2-1 series lead as they defeated South Africa by nine wickets in the third T20I, registering their highest successful run chase in T20Is.

The architects of Pakistan's spectacular win were openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan – who shared a record 197-run opening stand.

It was primarily a Babar show as the Pakistan captain slammed his maiden T20I ton – becoming only the third batsman from his country to score a hundred in the format. It was also the fastest T20I century for Pakistan as Babar brought it up in just 49 balls.

He was brilliantly supported by Rizwan, who scored an unbeaten 73.

Earlier in the day, after being asked to bat, South Africa openers Aiden Markram and Janneman Malan gave them a sensational start, stitching together a 108-run partnership in just 10.3 overs.

The in-form Markram dispatched Hasan Ali for 4,4,6,4 to help Proteas reach fifty in the fifth over. The duo kept on with the onslaught against the Pakistani bowlers, who were kept under pressure since ball one. However, Markram perished to Mohammad Nawaz on 63.

George Linde received a promotion to bat at number three after his exploits in the second game. He was cruising at 22 off 11 but chopped one on to the stumps off Faheem Ashraf.

Malan reached his maiden fifty but fell soon after, giving Nawaz his second wicket. South Africa captain Heinrich Klaasen too departed quickly, losing his wicket after he inside-edged the ball onto the stumps.

In the death, Rassie van der Dussen (34*) and Phehlukwayo (11) joined forces to take South Africa to a daunting total of 203/5 in their 20 overs.

Halfway through the match, South Africa looked to have the upper hand but the Centurion’s record of being a ground difficult to defend at loomed above.

The South African fears came to life as the Pakistan openers, Babar and Rizwan manufactured a relentless opening partnership of 197 runs.

Babar scored his first T20I hundred on the same day when he overtook Virat Kohli to become the No.1 ODI batsman. His sensational knock of 122 runs from 59 deliveries was studded with 15 fours and four sixes and is the highest individual score for Pakistan in the format.

His partnership with Rizwan was broken in the 18th over by Lizaad Williams when Pakistan were just seven runs away from a victory.

They didn't have to wait long though as Fakhar Zaman slammed back-to-back fours to take Pakistan home.

The series now moves to its fourth and final T20I on 16 April.

Wow Ahmad Shahzad got Pakistan’s highest ever T20 score waay back in 2014. Imagine abhi kya karta with how batting friendly this era is

Babar is 50 times the batsman Shehzad ever was. Don't even try to compare the best Pakistani batsman of the last 15 years to that actor.

The worst bowling performance I have ever had the misfortune of watching. You would back the Zimbabwe U-15 to bowl better.

It was embarrassing to watch.

Must be dreaming. Did you for once not bash Pakistan in your life?

it was an amazing innings by babar its amazing to see such a finesse artist batsman coming from Pakistan. The fact rizwan was out their for nearly 38 overs and fasting is unreal I think rizwan and Pant are the top wicketkeeper batsman in world cricket rn

When two bowling sides have equally struggled badly on the pitch, then maybe you can't critize the Pakistani bowlers then.

Obviously there is massive room for improvement and part and parcel of international cricket is having to bowl to dangerous explosive batsmen on flat belter wickets with short boundaries and nothing in it for the bowlers. What is then required is some bowling and planning intelligence from the bowling side, team management where instead of blindly looking to attack to take wickets, you then instead master the art of defensive bowling where you bowl to a plan, target the opposition batsmans weak areas, bowl to your field, build pressure by dot balls.

This is where I feel Waqar is a misfit, he played cricket in a very different era and had he been playing in today's limited overs era, he would have been badly bashed around, as it is he struggled very badly in his last 4-5 years with modern ODI play.

Maybe get a more modern limited overs ODI and T20 bowling coach who can teach the bowlers on how to bowl defensively and effectively on these flat graveyard pitches

What’s the best according to you

The following knocks were better than Babar’s.

(In no particular order):

1. Kamran vs Australia in the WT20 2010 semifinal

2. Umar Akmal vs Australia in the WT20 2010 semifinal

3. Umar Akmal vs Australia at Edgbaston in 2010

4. Umar Akmal vs Australia in the 2014 WT20

5. Afridi’s twin knocks in the 2009 WT20 semifinal and final

6. Misbah vs Australia in the WT20 2007

7. Misbah vs India in the WT20 2007 final

All these knocks were better than Babar’s became they did not come against bowling performances that would on par with a Zimbabwe U15 bowling attack.

SA D side or A side

that's still an accomplishment for Pak to win by 9 wickets and 2 overs remaining
i don't know much about this new SA side but Pakistan themselves aren't that much of a great side

just need to hope if Babar falls early, the team can still carry on

Main worry is how did pak concede 200+ against part timers..

That's not a worry, they're not part timers - they're are professional cricketers and their batsmen are legit batters not all rounders. Also 200 is a pretty average score in t20s especially in SA with flat wickets and small grounds, plus they had home advantage so you'd expect them to score well and put up a fight, you're getting Pakistan is the away team. Even Bangladesh would give a fight against Australia on their own turf.

That was also some trash bowling on the legside from SA. If the same bowlers are picker, they should not stop bowling over the wicket.

Blessing muzrabani is a much better bowler than any of sa seamers playing this match.
SA should pick Daryn Dupavillon next match. Migael Pretorius for the next series.

And what is Marco Jansen doing in the ipl? He hasn't even debuted yet but is bowling well for the best t20 team in the world, MI.
