In their six-series bilateral history in Test cricket, dating back to 2001, Bangladesh has yet to secure a single victory against Pakistan. With a head-to-head record of 12-0 [one draw] in favor of Pakistan, the odds do not look promising for the visitors. However, as the saying goes, cricket is a funny game, and Bangladesh will have arrived on Pakistan's shores with a point to prove—not just to the world, but to themselves—that they belong at this level.

Bangladesh suffered a heavy defeat in their last series against Sri Lanka in March this year. However, a series draw against New Zealand last winter should give them confidence as they face an unpredictable Pakistan side. The past month has seen civil unrest and turmoil engulfing the country, leading many Bangladesh Cricket Board officials to flee. Quality Test cricket might offer the general public some respite, perhaps even a faint smile.

Meanwhile, the hosts haven't played a Test match for most of this year. Their last Test series ended in a 3-0 defeat away to Australia. With a new head coach and fresh ideas, the team hopes to rejuvenate and finally deliver on their potential. Naseem Shah's return to the squad after injury is a major boost, while batters Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique will be looking to cement their places in the Test lineup for the foreseeable future.

Squads:

Bangladesh Squad: Zakir Hasan, Shadman Islam, Najmul Hossain Shanto(c), Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim(w), Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed, Nayeem Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Taijul Islam

Pakistan Squad: Abdullah Shafique, Saim Ayub, Shan Masood(c), Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan(w), Agha Salman, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Ali, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Mir Hamza, Kamran Ghulam, Abrar Ahmed, Mohammad Huraira

Where to watch in UK?

This is so depressing! No channel listing this

No rain expected tomorrow? Worth setting the alarm?

Rawalpindi should only be a day/night Test venue

One of the worst venues in Pakistan. Bad light sets in around 3:30pm Pakistan time there

Toss Update:

Toss has been delayed due to wet outfield at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Inspection of the ground will take place at 10 am PKT

So toss delayed due to overnight rain and the outfield is pretty wet. Lol

Seem like Drainage system is very bad here .

But Pakistan fans were crying about wet outfield in T20 world cup game ( Ireland vs USA) .

That was mostly because every person in US knew that the thunderstorm was coming months in advance.

This is just a test game that tbh people don't give a kahoot about

I'm agreeing with you dude. Just explaining the rationale. Not claiming elements of hypocrisy was never at play lol

Weather seems to be clear in Rawalpindi for the next few days. Hope to see some good test cricket in action

Might as well just call the whole series off if you can't even play a test game when it's freaking sunny outside

Pitch Report: "There will be plenty of moisture to work with. There might be some help for the spinners as well. Generally the fast bowlers will have help because of all the moisture in the first session and you don't want to waste the new ball," says Bazid Khan.
Fancy 50-55 overs today ?

Our Pakistani friends who used to complain about the drainage system in other countries can now look themselves in the mirror and bury their head in shame. Rain stopped hours ago, the sun is out shining brightly but hours are being wasted clearing the outfield.

Why they play in rain affected cities?

What not play at Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Peshawar & Sialkot?

Imagine if this is your typical patta prepared by PCB here to play safe to avoid a collapse of Pakistan batters , then we also have the issue of losing time to the weather. This match has draw written all over it unless the pitch is spicy.

So a session is lost because of overnight rain so think if there is more rain then we can say good bye to entire day Play.

Don't think Bangladesh batters have it in them to play out even three sessions.

Toss should have taken place right now, why waste half hour more.

Absurd rules of ICC.
Time is not wasted. Lunch will be taken during inspection. They take into account the time it will take to clear up ground when they are inspecting

It is bright and sunny and the ground also looks ok from here. No sure what is going on here.

They delayed the Match for food. I can't believe I'm actually saying this.

Only pakistan can delay a test match for food on a sunny day, with a pitch that features hardly any in person spectators.

Forget geopolitical issues, drainage and infrastructure not good enough for ICC event like CT.
Yeah, might as well move the entire CT to UAE.

The funny thing is Pakistan may have dug their own grave, we know that India was never going to come and ICC would never play a tournament without India.

However at the very least Pakistan could have made a statement, aka done some media nonsense on bringing sri lanka in or played the test and given India the middle finger.

Yes all of this would be a bluff like 2023 was a bluff where they claimed they'd boycott wc 2023, but at the very least it's some sort of attempt at bravado.

This is a new low, they can't even media hype themselves now

CT will be happening in Feb/March I believe. So there won't be much issue with rainfall

Major bhai needs to help the groundsmen. Even the players seem to be helping groundsmen with buckets

Toss Update:

Umpires to inspect the ground again at 01:00 pm. The groundstaff are working to dry the wet patches at the far-end area.

Just call of the day!!! PCB was never serious about cricketing issues, they are more worry about their pockets. Naqvi is same as predecessors if not worse.

The ICC event is many months away. These things happen across cricket and most countries. Yes it is not a good look but its sadly a common feature of cricket. There is no need to overexaggerate as if it's something you have never seen before.

Could they have not have covered the ground fully overnight

Not just this match. There was a T20 in Rawalpindi earlier this year where I called out the lack of proper drainage but I was rebuffed by posters. That was months ago and it hasn't changed.

And no, it doesn't happen everywhere.

In developed cricketing countries? Absolutely not.

I've never heard of England or Australia ever suffering from such a problem.

Maybe Bangladesh, India, SA, or other countries.

England is by far the best, as long as it isn't chucking down hard, even if it chucked down 5 to 6 hrs before a match, the drainage will clear it out within that time frame.

This will be hilarious if Pakistan loses and gets bundled up by spin.

Pure karmic redemption. That's what you bozos get for curating pitches against the might Bangladesh and Nepal.

Sorry , so when PAK make flat pitches everyone criticises them for being flat, now they make it non batting friendly and you are having a go at them for that ?

Someone tell those pakistani groundsmen that they should still be working even if it is raining. How a patch so close to the pitch becomes wet in 2024 is just insane. Sack the head curator, sack whoever was incharge of monitoring the covers.

Also naqvi just buy some proper pitch covers, in between your press conferences if you have time.

They didn't make a non batting friendly pitches. They made a pace heaven knowing full well Bangladesh spinners will cause problems to pakistan, but now they gotta deal with spin haha

Match to start at 2.30 PM, so that's 2 Sessions wasted already on the first day itself. What if we will see more rains or overnight rains every night/day.
