Bangladesh tour of USA (2024)

This is Ireland beating Pakistan level stuff. It should send shockwaves in Bangladesh
Irish cricketers play county cricket. THey beat England in the last world T20. They entered last 12. Not the same. USA doesn't have full time players. Most of them do this part time.

Bangladesh pitches are one reason they never evolved. Highly customized pitches in order to increase W/L ratio. They never learn big hitting due to those pitches. They just hope they can restrict opposition. Won't work everywhere.

I think this is bigger. USA hasn't even played in a T20 World Cup before. Ireland have caused more than a few shocks in ICC tournaments. They beat champions England in the Group Stage of the last T20 World Cup.

The USA clinched a five-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the first T20I of their three-match series at Prairie View in Houston, marking a historic upset as the two sides faced off in an international match for the first time.

Bangladesh faced early setbacks, with Litton Das dismissed for just 14 runs off 15 balls, courtesy of an LBW by Jessy Singh, and Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto falling cheaply for three runs off 11 balls. Despite Soumya Sarkar's quickfire 20 off 13 balls, Bangladesh struggled at 68-4 as star all-rounder Shakib departed for just six runs.

However, Mahmudullah Riyad and Towhid Hridoy mounted a strong partnership, with Mahmudullah's departure after a 22-ball 31 signaling the end of their 67-run stand in 47 balls. Towhid Hridoy remained composed, scoring a crucial fifty off 47 balls to guide Bangladesh to a total of 153 runs.

In response, the USA made a solid start, with Steven Taylor scoring 28 runs off 29 balls, albeit struggling to maintain momentum after an initial flurry of boundaries. Monak Patel contributed 12 runs off 10 balls, but the team faced a setback with two quick wickets.

Andries Gous stepped up at number three, smashing 23 off just 18 balls to turn the game in favor of the USA. As the target loomed, Harmeet Singh and Corey Anderson showcased their prowess, with Anderson's 34 off 25 balls and Harmeet's explosive 33 off 13 balls propelling their team to victory.

Their partnership of 62 runs off 28 balls sealed the historic win for the USA, marking their first-ever victory over a full national Test team.

What a win for the USA!! 👍🙂Finally something to cheer at instead of the routine USA defeats. Wont be easy for ind and pak in the t20wc. USA can cause an upset if they play well. If this was on a weekend- would have driven to Dallas to see the game live. Nobody is seeing a weekday
day game in the USA and temperatures in Dallas have been high as well. Plus it's poor timing. It's the holiday weekend here memorial day weekend- people have vacations planned fri- mon. These games unfortunately will not get any crowd whatsoever.

This World Cup is going to be a crazy one.

You never know which team is going to qualify for the Super 8.

I am seriously worried for Pakistan now :D

I hope usa and Canada qualify from the t20wc group. That way USA hopefully gets some recognition and maybe it will spread awareness and interest locally. Also for Ind- thats the only way the senior leaches rohit kohli jadeja pandya chahal- hopefully are thrown out of international T20 forever if they don't qualify and Ind changes their tuk tuk approach with wahed up senior "experienced" guys. Similar for pak- hopefully their exit forces the statpadders to be more aggressive and not think 180 is a winnable score in modern T20s.

Bng capt was saying world t20 pitches are not going to be batting friendly as ipl to score more runs 😀.Always runs are Important in any format

Both kohli and babar keep harping the same thing that t20wc pitches are.slow 170 type pitches. Well no matter how bad the pitches - teams are so good nowadays batsmen are so good at power hitting and range hitting that they will easily score 170 plus no matter the conditions. I think teams like ind and pak are going to get a reality check this t20wc. Even Ireland showed they can easily score 180 against the pak bowling attack.

The scary thing is USA is in the same group as Ireland and Pakistan. This is crazy that Bangladesh lost to USA. The world cup is getting pretty interesting.

We need magicians like Kuldeep to get wickets on those slow wickets.Ind vs wi series there was a high scoring tussle and surprisingly no one wants to look at it.

Pakistan will be tough to beat but USA has beaten Ireland before.
I assume nothing. USA is putting three matches of film out right before a World Cup for Pakistan, India, Ireland, and Canada to look at.
Canada ought to be a pretty straightforward win, but there will be a lot of attention as the opening match of the tournament, plus the first ever tournament match in the United States and all the hoopla. Gotta stay focused and dispatch the Canadians cleanly.
The quicks really struggled today. I know there were a lot of bowlers coming back from injury but extras (especially no-balls) were a significant issue. Bangladesh just struggled to put the bowlers away most times. You're not going to get the same breaks when you're facing Babar, Rizwan, Virat, or Rohit (or any of the better big hitters on the Pakistan or India rosters).
Ideally we beat Canada handily and then either win (yes, I know it's unlikely) or play a close match vs. Pakistan. India is going to be a bear to face but...you have to play that match. If any of the big Indian guys are having a bad day USA could pull an upset, same with Pakistan. If you surprise either Pakistan or India and win, then the match vs. Ireland is a legitimate shot to get into the knockouts.

My ideal situation? USA beats Canada, India, and Ireland, plays close vs. Pakistan, and Pakistan and USA advance. Extremely unlikely I know, but that would be ideal.
Most likely realistic result? USA beats Canada and Ireland, surprises Pakistan with a close match, gets blown out by India, and Pakistan and India advance, seeding determined by the match on June 9th.

Do note that India has had almost no pre-tournament prep. They played a T20 series in India vs. Afghanistan in January but after that will only get the warmup match vs. Bangladesh and an easy opener vs. Ireland. They'll be in full steam by the time they play USA, but Pakistan is likely to be a little more battle-ready if they're winning before the tournament.

I think this is bigger. USA hasn't even played in a T20 World Cup before. Ireland have caused more than a few shocks in ICC tournaments. They beat champions England in the Group Stage of the last T20 World Cup.
But Bangladesh is not on the level of Pakistan. Gap between US and Bangladesh is like same as Pakistan and Ireland

Make no mistake. USA will get trounced by India and Pakistan. They are weak in lot of areas. Bowling is probably okayish. Batting will come apart.

All the dharmic good human beings did well yesterday - Monank(unlucky), Nitish , Harmeet, Netravalkar, Jasdeep ,Litton, Sowmya.

Good stuff.

Ali Khan is a good seamer

This guy can be dangerous for Pakistan

Gajanand Singh was USA's best batsman in the WCQ and smashed a 100 vs WI. He even smashed a match winning 65 off 42 balls when USA beat Ireland in a T20I in 2021. Don't know why he was dropped. USA needs good batsmen

After some interesting results Group A which was looking as the most straight-forward group, now is getting interesting. Ireland beat Pakistan and came close to beating India as well in 2022. USA have beaten Bangladesh and beat Ireland in 2021. Still expect India to beat all 3 of Ireland, USA and Canada and most likely beat Pakistan as well and qualify. Pakistan should thrash Canada but they need to avoid banana skins against Ireland and USA. USA vs Ireland looks to be the next big match in the group after the obvious India vs Pakistan. Wins for USA vs Canada and Ireland can make Americans take notice of their cricket as well

Brah the only Americans that are going to be watching this are going to be those of South Asian origin

I read somewhere that Shakib said that playing Zimbabwe and USA was not ideal preparation before the World Cup.

Embarrassing statement if true.

Moment of cricketing national shame for our Bangladesh folks.

Perfect retribution by the USA team if the news is true. Shakib is a proud guy so it might be true.

Bangladesh will be facing USA in the 2nd T20I today.

Can the USA make history here and win the series against the full-member team?

TOSS - The coin lands in favour of Bangladesh. They will BOWL first.

USA (Playing XI) - Monank Patel (C/ WK), Aaron Jones, Andries Gous, Corey Anderson, Ali Khan, Harmeet Singh, Jessy Singh, Saurabh Netravalkar, Nitish Kumar, Shadley van Schalkwyk (In for Nosthush Kenjige), Steven Taylor.

Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan (In for Litton Das), Shakib Al Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali (WK), Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib (In for Rishad Hossain).

Half century stand between Jones and Monank comes up in the 15th, a partnership that ironically helps Bangladesh more than USA the longer Harmeet and Anderson are kept in the dugout.

I hope this is an off day for USA. If this is how they play regularly, they are not ready for big boys yet. May be USA can pouch a few players from subcontinent and build a team like UAE who can at least half compete.

Bangladesh on the verge of losing to USA again. Wow. Embarrassing.

USA have won the series against Bangladesh by a straight second upset. They defeated Bangladesh by 6 runs in the 2nd T20I 2024.

Damn, I wonder if another Zim game is loading for us as well in the WC. Not watched USA team before, but seems like the avg age is over 31-31 with the youngest one at 29.5 years old.

RIP Bangladesh cricket. Peaked between 2015 and 2018. Already in massive decline now.

Not sure what hope they have now. Thrashed by USA in T20's, lost to Netherlands and all the big teams in 50 over World Cup , ranked 9th in Test cricket.

Then Rainman had made a thread on how they were becoming a powerhouse

The peak during 2017-18 was due to Mustafizur Rehman’s novelty. Their batting also clicked a bit for a change during that period. Mushfiqur, Shakib and Soumya were beating on BD pitches. Those were the glory days for BD.

That was in 2018, bro. After they ran India close in that Asia Cup final and dumped PAK and Afghans out of the tournament . Their cricket looked like it was consistently improving. Plumbed new depths with this series loss though.

Netravalkar played against Babar in u19 world cup I think

USA pulled a big upset by downing Bangladesh with an unassailable lead of 2-0

Still Bangladesh were certainly in the game, until Shakib Al Hasan was out there in the middle. He played a valuable knock of 30 runs, but unfortunately could not find much support from the rest of the pack, and eventually all the burden came on to him. The way USA pulled things back in the final 5 overs was incredible The bowlers made the most of the conditions and pulled a rabbit out of the hat here with a historic win. Shadley van Schalkwyk set the tone in the 15th over for a high finish, Ali Khan built on it really well in the 18th over when he struck twice in three deliveries to put USA in front. Ali Khan stood out with the ball in hand with his three-wicket haul. Eventually USA won by 6 runs against the Bengal Tigers.

What if US decides to rest some players in the next and final BD game, on the grounds that their second line needs some blooding against weak oppo? :)) :)):steyn

This is so much bad than Pakistan losing a game against Ireland.

I don't remember a established team losing to a small team like when the gap was supposedly so big between the teams. USA is like taking baby steps right now and they have already taken out Bangladesh.

This result really tells you that USA are underrated team and Bangladesh well has a lot to ponder.

This is an awesome result for the USA and the world of cricket!

Go USA Go!(y)

BD :ROFLMAO:Well, I guess that's what happens when the team is filled with so many overconfident players (not to mention their utterly delusional fans and support staff)!

pakistan shouldn't take USA lightly.

afterall not an easy group for pakistan, ireland, USA and india

Bangladesh needs to improve their pitches. They would keep struggling outside Bangladesh if they keep producing those rubbish pitches that favors the home team.

Old but still relevant

Every time we say this is a new low for Bangladesh, they somehow manage to sink even lower.

Nepal and Netherlands should really fancy their chances against them at the World Cup. Based on current form, Netherlands might actually be favorites going into that match.

This is so good for USA!! (y) Hopefully they perform really well in the T20WC. Will be a massive upset still if we qualify from the group !

What a massive turnaround this is for USA cricket. Defeated a full-member side just a couple of days before the World Cup and not in just 1 game, they took the whole series.

Bangladesh cricket reached new low after this series defeat. USA is a team to watch out for in this t20 world cup. We might see and upset from them.

Easy does it there.
Bangladesh isn't a great team. IMHO they should have never been a test side ahead of the likes of Ireland. They are merely showing it now.
USA will understand what international level cricket really is once they face the likes of India or Pakistan.

Yes they will. Bangladesh's away record is pretty bad so USA took home advantage buy TBH, USA played better cricket so they deserved that victory.

Yeah but this is why you play the games. I'm sure we'll face a stiffer challenge from Pakistan and India, who have been quality sides for years, compared with Bangladesh. As someone of Pakistani descent, it will be hard for me to see Pakistan lose to USA, but if it happens I'm going to celebrate, and yes, I fully get that it is a longshot. You want the USA to embrace cricket? Beat a real team and watch ESPN put USA on a big telecast with real commentators. I guarantee you you will see Americans start watching.

But what USA cricket has done in the last four months can't be ignored. We annihilated Canada like a quality side should. We've won 6 matches in a row for the first time...ever. And while Bangladesh might not be the best side as a test of talent, they are still a Full Member and this wasn't a Test series, this was a T20 series. It's a format built for global competitiveness and Bangladesh should have won comfortably had they been on their game. And it's not an isolated incident-we drew a T20 series vs. Ireland in 2021. this shows progress.

The way USA has dominated last 2 games against bangladesh i can safely say that its going to be a whitewash for sure.

Speaking to the media after the victory against Bangladesh Ali stated that the team is hungry. He also termed the USA a balanced side, asserting it can make a difference at the T20 World Cup 2024:

“We are hungry, we’re just hungry. And we’re gonna try to eat whoever comes in our way. Especially, this is the time where we can make some changes and try to adjust what we can small little things,”

“But I think the team looks really balanced. All the guys are hungry, as I said, and we are really looking forward to the World Cup, and I’m sure USA will be there to do an upset.”

“It’s massive because as I said, we need to put USA out there on the world cricket map, and this is a pure example. It’s not just that we earned it,”

“Sometimes you get a win against a big side, they say, Oh, it’s a fluke. But beating them twice, back-to-back, winning the series, it’s not a fluke and that means we have talent, we have skills, and we have the ability if we have given the opportunities.”

The USA will face off against Bangladesh for the final game of the T20I series. What a superb performance from the USA side. Totally outclassed the Bengal Tigers (performed like cats).

Will it be a whitewash though? Bangladesh fans will not like it if it happens.

USA is yet to face India and Pakistan and they are already saying huge words. You have defeated Bangladesh brother, not Australia.
