Sami has technical problems no doubt about it, but now that he has been selected, he should be given a good run to see if he can work on his issues.

Discarding him after a few games tells us nothing and does him no good either, but expectations should be kept minimum because at the end of the day, he is a Pakistani and Pakistan is a minnow nation now, and don't expect top class cricketers from minnows.

sami has the same issue, set & gone

Isam has this news from the ground: Shadat came out to bowl on one of the practice wickets during the break and tumbled again. He was carried off in a stretcher. He bowled three deliveries in a warm-up stint during the lunch break, with bowling coach Heath Streak acting as the wicketkeeper. While bowling the 4th one, he fell before his delivery stride. Big setback for the hosts. -Cricinfo

:)))
How's he managing a run-up if he cant get through his bowling stride? Probably partied too hard after first test :moyo

Kal Ho Na Ho, SRK should retire, he got a hero's farewell by being taken away in a stretcher :asif

What Bangladesh again picked only 3 bowlers, one already out :misbah

I fear Mohammed Shahid will get injured just like Robiul, Shahid is a medium trundler not a spinner Mushfiq

Liton Das not selected, he is the future Test captain and not even in the side. Brilliant Selectors.

A question to all, do you guys really watch Test cricket? Where do you get the time? I am at work and just check the scores during lunch or sometimes when my Abbu jaan is not in front of me :butt

Pak roots we select captain outside the team like musbah azhar

It's 1 AM here. Great way to fall asleep.

There was a lot of whining about Bangladesh run rate in the Ist innings of Ist test!! So Pakistan are doing great here!!!

When you're at work a good option is to download the BBC Sport app on your phone and set it to get Pakistan wicket and session updates! I do it for every Test team!

I follow the scores, check highlights and if on TV I have it on in the background.

Azhar among the runs yet again, but I trust people will flock in now to complain about his SR.

If Saint Younis was half as dominant against pace as he is against spin, he would have been an all-time great batsman now, and would have been a hit in ODIs as well.

Basically another Sangakkara.

I really, really hate this 'trusting the bounce' cliche.

Younus Khan can become Pakistan's top scorer in tests by the end of the year. Can he get to 10,000 runs before he retires?

I think not. He will fail next year in Australia, New Zealand and England which will probably be the end of his Test career.

I dnt know why azhar go in a shell, he is nearing 50 just & against a bd bowling on a batting track.

he wouldnt fail in england

Depends on the top order performance. He can't handle swing any more, but if the top 3 does well then he can milk Moeen bhai.

However I won't back him against Anderson and Broad with the new ball.

Good rebuilding process here, with both batsmen well set they both should be targetting big hundreds here.

134/2

azhar ali has truly become a world class player. with asad shafiq also in the side, the pakistani batting is in great hands for the next decade.

he wouldnt fail in england

It's not a given but I think he will. Younis is a lot older now than he was the last time he toured, which was nearly 10 years ago iirc, and his struggles against pace and the moving ball are being further highlighted as his reflexes regress.

He has done well in England and New Zealand. Has toured australia once and was quite decent there. scored couple of fifties and nearly missed a century in 2nd test when got out in 80s. So I think he shd be test fine thr.

His reflexes have slowed down in the last few years and is poor player of pace now. On the South African tour in 2013 he struggled badly in the first and third Test, before cashing on on the slow and dry pitch of Cape Town.

Azhar will be Pakistan's next great Test batsman. If he improves his 50-100 conversion rate, he will score 20 hundreds.

But he is more likely to come good in England compared to Australia and New Zealand, as long as he doesn't face the new Dukes.

I would still hv my money on him... He is one of these batsmen who know the art of scoring runs in alien conditions. No doubt his reflexes would have slowed down from the time when he toured these countries last but his grit and determination should see him through...

The problem is that he is 30 so he doesn't have a lot of time left. He is currently just under 3000 runs.

Barring an injury, he will play till 37-38 and we play around 7-8 Tests/year, which means he has another 60-65 Tests left in his career, If he can maintain an average of around 45 he will probably score 5,000 more runs, so yes 10,000 looks very difficult, but 8,000 is a possibility.

You are probably right. I wish we played more test matches per year. 7/8 aren't enough.

The way Shami dismissed Younis Khan in the WC should be an indication to how he will fare in England,South Africa and Australia.

the wickets nowadays in england infact since last 8-10 years dont give so much to the bowlers, there is some reverse swing but its not like that of 90's when waqar wasim alan mullally or caddick used to do.

I did saw many cover drives on half volley deliveries during last eng-ind series

We should target 300/2 or 300/3 today, before we push on to 500 tomorrow and given them a session. That should be the tactic from here on.

He can get close to 10,000 if he averages 50+ from here on, and he has averaged 60+ in his last 7-8 Tests, so if he can keep that up he can get close.

The away tours next year will be a big test for him.

The ball still swings a lot, do you see him coping with Anderson with the new ball?

"record partnership for partnership 3rd wicket against BD, before it was taufiq umar & Younis khan 91 runs in 2011. "

yes this, he is still the the fittest player in pak 11

Yeah lets hope he averages 50+. I must say that batting wise we are settled for at least the next 4-5 years in tests. Now if we can find some decent bowlers then we could be a very good test side.

Good luck, in tests, he will dodge that sh1t faster than a bullet. He'll be on the floor with his legs split making the bowler think he's got him but nope. Younis will block the yorker coming next with his life on the line.

Younis trolls fast bowlers the whole innings until they see the scoreboard and he's already at 100.

Saint Younis needs around 30-35 deliveries on average to get going, and this is precisely the reason why he has failed in ODIs.

Middle order looks good and so does Sarfraz, but opening will be a problem.
