The ICC's decision regarding the hosting of the Champions Trophy 2025 has sparked intense debate between cricket's two powerhouses, the BCCI and the PCB both boards had their stakes and expectations but only one side could truly come out on top.

Opinions remain divided. PCB supporters hail the decision as a historic moment for Pakistan cricket, emphasizing the ICC’s backing for their hosting capabilities. Conversely, BCCI advocates argue that their stance on India’s security concerns has been acknowledged showcasing their sway in international cricket affairs.

Now what do you guys think who actually won here? I believe Pakistan got the upper hand as the BCCI was convinced early on that Pakistan would travel to India for ICC matches even though India won't visit Pakistan for the CT 2025.

What's the decision actually? Hybrid mode for both nation? Then it's win-win for both boards..

What's the decision actually? Hybrid mode for both nation? Then it's win-win for both boards..

Why?

Pakistan wanted India to play in Pakistan

India wanted Pakistan to play on Indian soil as it's a big earner.

BCCI won.

PCB would’ve won if they could’ve forced the ICC to make sure Pakistan are never grouped with India in any ICC event until India travel to Pakistan.

And, Pakistan will not travel to India for any ICC event until India travels to Pakistan

PCB is the official host. They don't get to host all the matches at home. That is not exactly a victory i have to say. Imagine India vs Australia, semi final. A box office match. Pakistan fans can't be able to see that. or even India vs Pakistan.

Don't think BCCI would be pleased to lose the cash-cow Indo-Pak game from Indian soil but that's whats happened.

It's not only about cash either. Indian fans would have queued for tickets to watch their team against Pakistan in India, no doubt same could be said of Pakistan fans. This is what happens when politicians are making the decisions and not cricket people.

In my opinion, BCCI and Indian fans here must be sad as they were expecting many more things too.

India is also the host of the host of an ICC event and will have to play Pakistan in SL. Yes, SL is a co-host but India can’t even play their own game at
home?

A box office match which Indians won’t be able to see.

India vs Australia is a box office match for indians and Australians Pakistan don't give it much importance. India vs pakistan in semi and final will be a box office match for pakistanis

PCB if Pakistan dont travel to India during ICC events and also if the India Pakistan match will be held in a neutral territory.

No one really won.

I think compromises were made on both sides. However, it's the first time Pakistan has managed to somewhat stand up for itself which is a positive.

Pakistan gets to host an ICC home tournament (after 1996) and doesn't have to travel to India. They also get the women's WC as a bonus. While India gets what it wants since it doesn't have to travel to Pakistan.

Both boards can take positives out of the deal.

Of course the negative include Pakistan losing a chunk of its home tournament. While India also loses an India-Pak group game in Ahmedabad (whether they're in the group or not) and of course the final.

I think from a PR perspective PCB will come out looking good especially in 2026. I also don't see this stopping in 2027. This is going to become the status quo until the political situation improves.

They won't be in the same group for starters.

Pakistan fan's are think Jay Shah is becoming the ICC chairman is bad for them but actually its a good things atleast for this matter.

If he waa BCCI Secretary than I don't think he is going to ready for india- pakistan ( icc world t20 2026) match to Play outside India ,but as an

ICC chairman he has responsibilities to solved this matter so that's work for PCB favour .

If you think India will play their semi or final outside Ind, I have some Gwadar oil reserves to sell you.

At max, Ind might play their group match against Pak in SL OR they won't be in the same group.

People think we won because of our board's greater incompetence before. Two wrongs don't make a right. Pakistan lost this battle. They had full hosting rights and should have not even entertained a discussion. It's scheduled for our backyard, if you want to come then convince your government. If not, then too bad so sad.

I don't mind Pakistan going to India for tournaments. I mean we did that last year with no issues. I don't think we should stop doing that or start acting like middle schoolers saying "if you don't come, we won't either" and then making it all more complicated by adding neutral venues and ultimately being at a disadvantage bc you'll have to travel to the neutral venue if you are to play India and they'll be fully prepared and technically at home advantage.

No, Pakistan should have remained where they are and continued to go to India for future tournaments.

I'm sure the Naqvi lovers aren't fully happy with this result either. I recall them not expecting him to end up with a hybrid model. Now that it's here, I see them defending it as if that's what they wanted. We deserved a full tournament at home.

PCB won this battle and Pakistanis emerged from this confrontation with 56 inch chest. A pivotal moment and the true beginning of the Mohsin Maqvi era who has took inspiration from ancient Sanatani Chanakya in trapping the BCCI in his web.

As a Bharatiya, i would like to congratulate Pakistanis for standing up for their rights and getting something from this in their favour after years of injustice.

For global fans of the game, let it be clear that BCCI does not represent Bharat. It is just a money making entity which would sell the interests of Bharat for money every single time rather than doing what is right for Bharat and respecting the sentiments of Sanatanis.

Pakistanis now have a capable board as well as a moderately young and very capable cricket team in tests and ODIs both and should they figure out a firm game plan and the right team they will go into Champions Trophy 2025 as one of the top 4 contenders in my opinion along with Australia (as always), Southern Afrikaan (resurgent), and I am frankly not sure of which is the 4th top contender among Bharat, England, NZ they all have issues to sort.

PCB wanted india to come but later on, they changed their strategy and instead forced ICC to make a hybrid model for PCB as well. I would say that PCB has taken more chunks out of this deal than BCCI.

Think PCB needed some bragging rights so they will make this into a win.

But if one were to look at their previous statements, this would look like a laughable loss.

Bcci offcourse.

Anyone claiming pcb came on top or this was a win for pcb, is just being patriotic... and have also fallen to the propaganda of Naqvi.

I dont care about whether we travel to india or not, that was not the issue. Issue was we are host, and it should be teams coming to Pakistan. Yet once again BCCI got its way.

This is not how ICC should operate. Its ridiculous. Look at the davies cup issue, india was told clearly, that if you dont go to pakistan be ready to lose your points. Thats how things work in proper sports bodies.

Alot of countries had issues eith qatar being a world cup host, did FiFa decide, oh even though Qatar has rights and Qatar spent alot of money on the stadiums, but to cater one team lets move a few matches to some other place.

PCB is an organization filled with Idiots that what to look good in media and secure their political career by making decisions that look good for them in the 2 years time, instead of looking at the benefit of 10 years time.

What would had happened if India had pulled out, was that there would had been a threat of ICC pulling the tournament out of Pakistan. Pakistan would have had a full legal case made for them on a platter and all they needes to do was go to the Court of sports Arbitration (or whatever its called) in Switzerland and let the natural course take place. It would had taken time, but eventually we would had gotten a good compensation because pcb spent money after being told we are the host and sports bodies cant just pull the rights based on another countries own political issues

But because Naqvi didnt want to risk the tournament being pulled out, or being THAT guy, or being labelled. He made a compromise....

Had PCB taken this issue to the legal system, ICC might have for once and for all straighten itself. But nope, we did a compromise...

And trust me, when the time comes, Pakistan will be going to India. Because what india will be doing is it will make it a legal issue....

This reflects our education system. When you have a poor education system and with retarded people getting elected as mnas and mpa, this happens. BCCI openly discriminates pakistan in ipl, and yet we dont have anyone taking action on that either, because pcb thinks its a matter of self respect. Meanwhile the player doesnt care and guys like azhar mehmood will throw their pakistani passport away to play in IPL.

The country is a joke filled with stupid administrators. Be it Pmln, ppp or pti. 15 years of the same tamasha.

PCB lost this case on 29th Nov when they accepted the hybrid model and put forward childish demands. What happened nexf is irrelevant. BCCI on the other hand is still sticking to their original stance of not travelling to Pakistan.

Oh did I forget to mention, India will play all its games in WT20 2026 in India, including the game vs Pak, semi final and final.

Isn’t that what the agreement says?

Anyhow, even if they are only playing a group match against Pak outside their home, despite being the host, this agreement is nothing for them to cheer about.

That last bit - I don’t think that’s what the agreement says. Or is that what you just expect?

Also, BCCI’s stance was the Pak has to travel to India because India apparently has no security issues. What happened to that stance?

It’s stupid to think that India will be playing semi final or final outside India where we lost a chunk of our hosting rights so overall it’s BCCI who has won partially not comprehensively

The BCCi was thoroughhly humiliated by the PCB. I won't be surprised if the BJP govt. declares a day of national mourning tomorrow.

Stupid or not, that’s what the agreement says.

Bharat, Pakistan matches not happening in Bharat would also be a loss to Bharatiya businesses who make great profits by overselling the hype. Bharatiya people pay good sum of money for these matches. The tickets are sold at a premium and all hotels get sold out at premium. Not to mention all those stupid YouTubers who also cover these matches to generate more viewership for their channels respectively.

In hindsight, UAE and any country that gets to host these matches in future is the real winner of this tussle, neither Bharat or Pakistan.

Just like overall where USA, China, Russia are the bigger winner from Bharat- Pakistan conflict.

Sad reality of our lives.

They refused to play cricket in the UAE because they lost there all the time in the 90s. Then they refuse to play in Pakistan.
I guess neutral venues will be Sri Lanka or Bangladesh

This is absolutely correct.

We as Pakistan fans can try and find solace in what transpired, but it isn’t right.

India since 2009 have hosted multiple tournaments completely at home with Pakistan having to play in their backyard. This was our right in 2025, it was taken away from us.

Is that confirmed? If not, and India does play Pak outside India despite being a host, then this is not even close to a win for BCCI
I very much doubt India will play pakistan outside India in a knock out match. They will buy PCB with money.

They had every right to.

I’m 100% convinced that the men’s team will end up playing in India going forward during this tenure.

They refused to play cricket in the UAE because they lost there all the time in the 90s.

They stopped playing in the UAE because it was the hub of matchfixing at the time, nothing to do with 90s losses.

India itself is the biggest hub of fixing. That much is a well known fact. And its not about where you play, its about your own players and how true they are to their country. Are you saying the Indian team was throwing away games in the 90s in the UAE?

I think it's just a poor way of Indian fans to justify their losses in the 90s due to a poor team, and blaming it all on match fixing. I have seen Pakistani fans do it too when the Pakistani team loses but nothing so far fetched as refusing to play somewhere. That's just a very Indian thing to say. Why were a few IPLs held in UAE if its so bad and match fixing is foremost on India's mind when picking places to play cricket? You wont allow your national team to play in the UAE but its ok to hold your domestic tournament there? How much sense does that make?

If anything, there is more money and more interest and more unsavory characters involved with cricket in the UAE now than there were in the 90s. With the introduction of franchise cricket, and all these tens of different competitions taking place there, I can only imagine how the locals and the expats there are all in to betting and whatnot. But, I digress. The biggest hub where all match fixing is controlled from is still India.

In 1990s? Sachin’s famous knock is in Sharjah, once UAE become a friendly nation India has consistently played there, the match fixing issue is what India made not play there as no investigation could take place ,once Indian government got its act together they play there consistently.

I don't know who came on top because the entire thing is super unclear.
But I do see everyone is looking for a win.. so they definitely will find it.

Nothing about trade but the Sheikh got his house cleaned too..trade increase happened massively since 2012, Sachin Sharjah’s knock-1998

so he had one knock in 1998 which makes you think is a solid defense for India to continuing to play there but now the sheikh is continuing to get his house cleaned and match fixing is most likely still there and there is no Sachin but its ok for India to play there now?

I am utterly confused as to what you are trying to say. lol Stand on one leg please. If you are going to lie, or make up completely ridiculous reasons, at least make sure you stick to one and don't hop around all over the place.

I’m asking when in 1990s India stopped playing there?

You made the excuse India was losing there so stopped playing..India lost everywhere in 1990s, so your reason made no sense.

Heck we got hammered in Aus in 1990s.. did we stop playing there?

I said they lost in the 90s and played there but stopped playing around the end of nineties. I think India last played there around the 99 world cup or maybe after it. I never said India has not played there in the 90s. I said INDIA MOSTLY LOST TO PAKISTAN THERE in the 90s.

You didn’t say lost to Pakistan in UAE

its a given, isn't it? LOL

Why rub your face in it? :)

We all know why India refused to play there towards the end of the 90s and only recently decided that match fixing was uprooted in the UAE since they have such a wonderful law abiding government and great law enforcement there now. :facepalm

Phase #1 (Roaring): PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi declared that there is no question of accepting the hybrid model, insisting the entire tournament must take place in Pakistan.

Phase #2 (Bravado): "PCB is not prepared to accept the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy," Naqvi asserted.

Phase #3 (Chest Thumping): "Pakistan's pride is paramount, and we are committed to hosting the Champions Trophy in Pakistan," Naqvi proclaimed.

Phase #4 (Thigh Slapping): During a press conference, Naqvi vowed, "We won't sell out for money".

Phase #5 (Softening): "I’d prefer not to discuss the specifics of the negotiations at this time," Naqvi told the media.

Phase #6 (Begging): He reportedly sought financial perks and a triangular series in exchange for agreeing to the hybrid model, which was rejected by the ICC.

Phase #7 (Bending): Ultimately, Naqvi conceded, saying, "We will accept the hybrid model." 🤡 🤡

Naqvi made all fans fool, he is no different than previous guys, just ranting ranting and finally bent when the point comes.

@JaDed is number one when it comes to whataboutism.

I think we can expect Indians to spin it and make it look like BCCI won when in reality BCCI suffered defeat here.

Whataboutism? UAE is not even mentioned in the OP.

I do understand your comprehension issues but you should had used whataboutism point somewhere else.

Lol apparently putting facts out there is spinning it bro, don’t spin it but just talk about UAE ..

The topic itself is incendiary and its based on an assumption (albeit correct) that there is a lot of politics between the boards. Nothing to do with sports. Perhaps this should be passed to Time pass section because it has no place in a cricketing discussion.

That being said, who cares which side came out on top. They both look like idiots, and others who pretend to be simply bystanders also look like idiots because they are all supposed to be the guardians/administrators of the sport and this whole fiasco had nothing to do with sports. It had to do with some doofus sitting in the Indian think tank, using the financial clout of his board to gain some political points by stirring crap against Pakistan so he and his party can win some votes in the next election. Across the border is another doofus who kept thumping his chest India will play in Pakistan with zero evidence and then quietly conceded and signed a *** for tat deal claiming victory.

In doing so what they have done is successfully stopped cricket fans on both sides from watching their arch rivals play their team in their own backyard. I hope that summary was clear enough. There are no winners here, only losers quite frankly.

Okay, so that’s conjecture.

I thought we were discussing the actual agreement and not what we think will happen

PCB didn't have any cards to play with. The ICC and fellow Cricket boards made it clear to the PCB that if the matter came to voting in the board they were going to vote in favour of the BCCI and have the whole tournament shifted out of Pakistan if the PCB didn't accept the hybrid model proposed.

The PCB ultimately made the most out of a bad situation.

I think what the finally agreed to should have been made an official agreement years ago when India made it clear they wont come to Pakistan. PCB were idiots hanging out in the hopes they will come and play in Pakistan.

Tbh, Pakistan India Cricketing relations need to be handled and sorted at a government to government level. I am surprised why are the two governments not tackling the matter directly vs the Cricket Boards themselves.

PCB in every other statement (and they have made no statement now) were adamant about the whole thing being played in Pakistan when the world was telling them to accept the hybrid.

Just thank your lucky stars we didn't go to court.

The Indian government would not want to deal with us directly because then Modi ji would look weak and on our side, we don't even know who should be doing the talking. Maybe Muneer himself should do it?

Lets see how many Pak posters and our resident runners reply to this post. It's just the reality . If the tables were turned, yes I would still support the hybrid model. For example , Ind is not strong at in FIFA , so Ind football fed will accept to a lot of compromises if it was in that situation. Again , just a reality.

I agree. PCB took more chunks out of this deal than BCCI.

-----------------------------

Aakash Chopra speaking on his Youtube Channel:

"No, Pakistan is not losing money. In fact, Pakistan hasn't even lost his face this time. Regardless of the talks, they had agreed on the hybrid model. But, they haven't walked away empty handed. So, the current scenario is that all India vs Pakistsan matches will be played under hybrid model. If India is not travelling to Pakistan, Pakistan too will not come to India to play. Pakistan will also play their matches in a third country."

"There is no financial loss (for Pakistan). They will get an extra $4.5 million for hosting some games outside. Obviously, there will extra expenditure. So, the ICC will give them another $.45 million to organize games outside Pakistan. The only loss will be in terms of tourism, which would've been great for their economy. My personal experience of touring Pakistan was great. The people in Pakistan were very loving."

I was hoping against hope that PCB will stick to their guns and say no to hybrid model. Alas it did not happen.
Tournament cannot proceed without India. BCCI refused to travel and there is nothing PCB could have done to change that. So only logical and available solution was to host India at neutral venue. If Pak had stuck to no hybrid , CT 2025 would have been cancelled by Now

Okay, so that’s conjecture.

I thought we were discussing the actual agreement and not what we think will happen
if we go by ICC board resolution that got approved through voting , Reported by ESPN , It seems PCB got what it wanted. An equitable solution where Pak will also not Travel to India for future Tournaments.

Indians were quite sure that PCB got no legs to stand on . It was going to be take it or leave it. Accept what BCCI tells PCB or get ready to loose the champions trophy Hosting Rights. This was the sure shot narrative by Indians on social media. Then it changed to “ In principle “ agreement about Hybrid being applied to India’s tournament. Indians then started to peddle the narrative that no way BCCi will make it official by signing any written agreement. Then came the Board approved resolution. Now they can debate and wish that whats in the agreement wont happen , But if we take this agreement at face value and the fact that it exists now , can be considered win for David going against Goliath

Phase 1 : We wont travel. Host us at dubai .
Phase 2 : Take it or Leave it
Phase 3 : CT will Shift to SA
Phase 4 : CT will Shift to India
Phase 5 : No security issue in India. Pak has to come for T20 WC
Phase 6 : Fusion Model Rejected by BCCI
Phase 7 : Naqvi has 48 hours to accept. Get ready to loose hosting rights in Board voting
Phase 8 : Fusion model accepted “ In Principle “ No written agreement

Phase 11 : ICC approves “ All matches “ at neutral venue Til 2027 through board voting

We don't want Indian players to set foot on Pakistani soil - Win India
We don't want Pakistani players to set foot on Indian soil - Win India.

Pakistan does not get to host any match involving Indian team within Pakistan which brings all the moolah and money - win India.

if we go by ICC board resolution that got approved through voting , Reported by ESPN , It seems PCB got what it wanted.

We got what we wanted as Indians. INDIA not playing a single match in Pakistan. On top of that no Pakistani player or person will come to India. This is a double whammy.

we also got what we wanted. If India is going to behave like a crybaby about travelling to Pak , Then Pak will not go India either. Does not matter if its double whammy for you

Good. But Pakistan does not host a single match of the team bringing the most gate money in all the countries hosting ICC tournaments.

Ahmed Shehzad said on his YouTube channel:

"Pakistan has once again compromised on its self-respect. All those big talks that we will not accept a hybrid model, India will have to come, we are a safe country, have India come? They have not. Eventually, you had to accept the hybrid model but with a different name. Maybe you have accepted that Pakistan is not a safe country. This is exactly India’s complaint and now by agreeing to a hybrid model, you have approved India’s claims.”

"Tell me why are you fooling Pakistan’s people? Why are you playing with people’s emotions?”

“This is an ICC tournament, not Asia Cup that you agreed to a hybrid model. Now whether you go to India or not, it’s India who initiated this. If the ICC tournament was in India, would it have been possible for PCB to make BCCI agree to a hybrid model? It is impossible. The Indian players who made the big claims knew that their board was committed. They had said two years back that even for an ICC tournament India will not go to Pakistan and this has been proven right today.”

"Champions Trophy 2025 was allotted to Pakistan but they have lost a chance, they lost their self-respect and a golden chance to bring the Indian team to Pakistan, to give a chance to our fans to watch Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, but this chance has been lost because of our seniors’ weak policy."

“India made strategic moves and became successful. Regardless of their influence, other boards being close to them and Jay Shah being ICC president, our stand should have been stronger. If PCB wanted and put up a strong case, it was impossible that India would not have come to Pakistan but PCB somewhere kept making compromises.”

Gate money? seriously? haha.

gate money is peanuts. its all about TV rights. The hosts get that money no matter where the game takes place. you just pay extra if its outside. and in this case, if Chopra is correct ICC is reimbursing Pakistan for that as well a bit.

Bottomline is hate filled people like you love to think in terms of victories. But this episode clearly indicates that the cricket fans are the losers. There is no joy to be had here with further divisions. Why does it matter where the match is played. If India is so morally correct and righteous in NOT playing in Pakistan, they should simply NOT play Pakistan no matter the location.

No side came on top.

Cricket is played on ground. Indian and Pakistani fans would have liked to see Ind-pak matches live on ground in both countries.

Now both set of fans can't see that.

ICC/PCB/BCCI etc exist because matches happening on the gound and 22 players putting on a show. Not other way around.
