BJP in damage control mode after calls grow for boycott of Indian goods in the Arab world

Why do non-Indians lose so much sleep over the fate of the Indian Muslims on here ?

How many threads do we need on the same issues again and again. If 200M Indian Muslim feel discriminated against they should do something about it and fight for their rights.

I'm not condoning what the BJP have done but Pakistanis are the last people to talk about minority rights. The images of that Sri Lankan man set ablaze in Sialkot are still vivid in my mind.

Finally, these Sunni Arab nations repulse me. They don't say a word when Israeli police are beating up worshippers at Al-Aqsa, one of the holiest places in Islam, because they secretly salivate at the prospect of Israel bombing their enemy Iran as they don't have the balls to do it themselves.

However suddenly they've discovered their love of Islam and are summoning ambassadors over comments on an Indian talk show.

Thew thread isn't really about Indian Muslims or Pakistan per se. It seems to be a conflagration between India and the Arab nations over some remark made by an Indian minister degrading the Prophet PBUH.

lol you guys are going back to 2013 to show what random journalists are saying.

And anyway, didn't one of your guys take Rana Ayyub to court for calling Hindus terrorists.

But the point is, do you think random journos are the same as someone endorsed, and supported by the PM?

There are so many instances in recent times as well.. Do some googling. I don't want to post all that crap here.

They are not random journalists, all are working in main stream media. Rana is working for Washington Post.

How is PM supporting Nupur when his party debarred her and made her issue an apology?

Hindus are the punching bags in India for all religions. You can make cartoons, take potshots at their deities and get away with it by calling it freedom of expression (which I fully support). But the moment Islam is involved, the rules change 180 degrees.

A BJP leader was arrested today for derogatory comments on Prophet Muhammad, four days after the violence that erupted in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur. Harshit Srivastava, an office bearer of the BJP Youth Wing, was trying to spoil the atmosphere through his objectionable posts, police said.

"We will act against anyone who tries to play with religious sentiments," said Kanpur Police Commissioner Vijay Meena.

Violence broke out in parts of Kanpur after Friday prayers as members of two groups clashed and threw stones at each other over a call to shut down markets in protest against BJP leader Nupur Sharma for her comments against Prophet Muhammad during a TV debate on the Gyanvapi mosque issue.

The BJP had on Sunday suspended Ms Sharma and expelled its Delhi unit media head Naveen Jindal for their remarks on the Prophet. The remarks had drawn massive backlash from around the world with 16 countries condemning the controversial comments.

On Monday, the Kanpur police had released posters with 40 images of people allegedly involved in the violence. Police are said to have gathered images of the alleged accused through several videos of the incident, including those captured on CCTV and mobile phones.

Over 50 people, including key accused Zafar Hayat, have been arrested so far and a case filed against over 1,500 named and unnamed people in connection with the violence that left more than 40 injured.

India faced condemnation from as many as 15 nations over comments on Prophet Muhammad by two BJP leaders – Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal. Qatar was among those who demanded an apology and told India envoy Deepak Mittal that such remarks may lead to “prejudice and marginalisation, which will create a cycle of violence and hate”.

While the government was trying to defuse the diplomatic crisis, ‘#BycottQatarAirways' started trending on Twitter on Monday after many people began airing their views under the hashtag.

A few Twitter users claimed that Qatar was targeting Indians, so people should get together to boycott Qatar Airways.

There were a few who saw the funny side of the tweets as well.

A spoof video has emerged with a hoax reaction of Qatar Airways CEO on the boycott call.

“People who have never bought a plane ticket in their life are writing on Twitter #BycottQatarAirways,” was another reaction to the boycott call.

Nupur Sharma had made the comments on Prophet Muhammad during a TV debate last week while Naveen Jindal posted a tweet about the Prophet, which he later deleted.

That's because Islam has different rules to Hinduism. You say on the one hand you support the right to freedom of speech, then at the same time you are complaining that the Hindu deities get potshots taken at them. Well that is your belief, so maybe you should back it with some conviction instead of lamenting why it is so.

The ruling BJP has set new boundaries for its spokespersons and leaders joining TV debates as its government faces a huge international backlash over party leader Nupur Sharma's comments on Prophet Muhammad.
Only authorized spokespersons and panelists will participate in TV debates, BJP sources say, and they will be assigned by the media cell.

The spokespersons have been warned against criticising any religion, its symbols or religious figures.

BJP panelists have been forbidden from crossing the line during heated discussions. They have been urged to keep their language restrained and not get agitated or excited, sources say. For no provocation can they violate the party's ideology or ideals, they add.

The BJP has ordered its spokespersons to first check for the topic of the TV discussion, prepare for it and find out the party's line on it before appearing on any channel.

"Spokespersons and panelists of the party should stay on the agenda. They should not fall into any trap," sources said.

The BJP also wants its spokespersons to focus on the government's social welfare work.

The government continues to firefight after the comments of two leaders provoked condemnation from at least 15 countries.

Nupur Sharma, who has since been suspended, made the comments during a TV debate around 10 days ago. She said on Twitter that her comments had been in response to "insults" made against Lord Shiva. Another party leader, Naveen Jindal, was expelled for posting a tweet about the Prophet that he later deleted. The government sought to distance itself from the comments by describing them as "views of fringe elements".

The BJP on Sunday said it is "strongly against any ideology which insults or demeans any sect or religion" and "does not promote such people or philosophy". Despite the attempts at damage control, several Muslim nations have summoned India's envoys and demanded apologies for the comments

:)) They may as well cancel any future TV shows as they won't have any content to debate for their Islam bashing.

India doesn’t work on religious code. We have a constitution.

Yes freedom of speech comes with some restrictions and you can’t be offensive to people’s sensibilities.

Maybe 1000 yrs back some sultan or maharaja had their punishments based on the code of that time.

Doesn’t apply now. As I said she was punished, diplomats/
Foreign office will work to diffuse the international statements. Case closed.

I am talking about equal opportunity to offend. I am a Pagan to be precise. I respect all great men who walked on this planet. But we should have the right to criticize them for their shortcomings.

Coming to Rana Ayub, she cries about Islamophobia, but is ready to offend other religions in the name of freedom of speech.

Absolutely correct? lol
A Journalist Endorsing maligned images of Hindu gods and Mocking hindu gods is absolutely correct.
Its like endorsing Robert Spencer and Tarek Fatah.

Not just Sabha, every Muslim journalist doing the same job in India, is that absolutely correct? then how Nupur was wrong?

View attachment 116185

I know all that bro and you also know which side I stand for. My point being where is the hindu voice against such posts from Rana Ayyub or other journalists who share such posts. How come likes of her still doing journalism in India, a country where 80% are hindus? They only get guts to post such filth bcoz they know they would get protection from hindu liberals. When a bengali brahmin like Mahua Moitra can post against Lord Shiva in open forum, how can we blame Saba Naqvi? Will there any muslim anywhere in the world, irrespective of any ideology or political lineage, will post against their own religion? Like of Tasleema Nasreen tried and we know why she is today. On the other hand people like Kunal Kamra, Swara Bhaskar, Mahua Moitra, Ashok Swain (I can go on and on) regularly abuse hindu religion being hindu themselves. Go to channels like NDTV...some of them are giving sermons today. You will find many such on this forum itself. So when our own community is such bigoted and divided, how can we blame muslims?

Al-Qaeda Threatens Attacks in Parts of India Including Delhi, Mumbai Over Controversial Remarks on Prophet

https://www.india.com/news/india/al...ng-delhi-mumbai-over-prophet-remarks-5439733/

This is turning out to be bad. If something like this happens. It will only divide the community further.

What the heck is going on now! Al qaeda? Seriously?

Everyone will use Nupur's rant on an Indian channel to get their 15 seconds of fame. No better occasion than this to prove how much of a lover of Prophet they are.

Osama was chilling in Pakistan when American troops found him.

Whatever floats your boat. Osama or Pakistan won’t be the reason if something happens in India now because their ministers inability in controlling her mouth on easily the most sensitive subject in the world= “The personal/marital life of Prophet Muhammad s.a

You seem to be completely oblivious to how sensitive this subject is to Muslims. They will not simply politicise it. There are genuine people in the world who would sacrifice their life for the honour of Prophet Muhammad s.a. It seems Modi India has been living on another planet all together if they do not realise how serious this subject is.

And you know this for sure because…?

Tickets are heavily vetted and will only go to official England travel club members.

You’re going to need a lot of coin to be able to afford to go to this WC which I can’t see with these EDL tramps.

Besides, I’m sure Qatar’s finest plod will be more than ready for any trouble makers.

If you want to continue this debate, please take to the appropriate thread, thank you.

Believe me, these EDL 'Rats' will be there (In QATAR) in some form, regardless of restrictions.

Bhai, Dawkins also made sarcastic remark on TV when he spoke about Prophet going to heaven on a winged donkey. There was no outrage on him. It looks like the outrage is selective.

Nobody knew who Nupur Sharma is before this incident. Now everyone knows who this no name irrelevant person is. Thanks to all the outrage from all Middle East nations.

The outrage is inconsistent I agree, but it is highly unlucky and dangerous if it does spiral out of control for someone. This is what is happening in Nupur’s case and I genuinely fear for her life and safety.

Really, BJP probably never thought their anti Muslim rhetoric would actually come back to bite them like this. The Arabs were turning a blind eye as they usually do for Palestine, but this time it has gone overboard because there is no disgracing the Prophet s.a whatsoever

Malaysia's foreign ministry on Tuesday condemned the 'derogatory remarks by politicians in India against the Prophet'.

In a statement, the foreign ministry said it summoned India's high commissioner on Tuesday to convey Malaysia's total repudiation over this incident.

'Malaysia welcomed the decision by the ruling party to suspend the party's officials due to their provocative remarks that has generated rage' among Muslims, the statement added.

'Malaysia also called upon India to work together in ending Islamophobia and cease any provocative acts in the interest of peace and stability,' it added.

In response to a statement issued by the parliamentary committee on awqaf and tribals of Iraq on the controversial tweets, a spokesperson for the embassy of India in Iraq on Monday clarified that the tweets do not, in any manner, reflect the views of the Government of India.

The Iraqi statement said 'These abuses, malicious and disgraceful acts will have serious repercussions and, if not contained, may lead to dire consequences that will have unimaginable consequences for the peaceful coexistence, as well as increase strife and tensions between peoples,' according to the official Iraqi News Agency.

The Indian embassy in its statement said, 'In line with our civilisational heritage and strong cultural traditions of unity in diversity, the Government of India accords the highest respect of all religions. Strong action has already been taken against those who made the derogatory remarks.'

A statement has also been issued by concerned quarters emphasising respect for all religions, denouncing insults to any religious personality or demeaning any religion or sect, it said.

'Vested interests that are against India-Iraq relations have been inciting the people using these derogatory comments. We should work together against such mischievous elements who aim to undercut the strength of our bilateral ties,' added the Indian embassy statement, which was identical to the statements issued by the Indian embassies in Kuwait and Qatar on Sunday.

The Indian embassies in Qatar and Kuwait in their statements had referred to comments as 'being made by fringe elements'. However, the phrase 'fringe elements' is not there in the statement issued by the Indian embassy in Iraq.

Libya's ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation in a statement 'strongly condemned' the 'insulting remarks' and called for the consolidation of the values of tolerance and coexistence and the rejection of the discourse of violence and hatred.

The Egypt-based Arab parliament also expressed its strong condemnation of, and rejection of the 'irresponsible remarks issued by the spokeswoman of India's ruling (BJP) against Prophet Mohammed.'

In a statement, the Arab parliament affirmed that such remarks fully contradict the principle of tolerance, and interfaith dialogue, and lead to hate, Kuwait's State-run KUNA news agency reported.

In Turkiye, the ruling Justice and Development Party spokesperson Omer Celik described the statements against the Prophet as an "insult" to all Muslims.

On Monday, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the Maldives, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman and Afghanistan condemned the controversial remarks against Prophet Mohammed, stressing the importance of respecting all religious beliefs.

Qatar, Iran and Kuwait on Sunday summoned India's ambassadors and the expressed their strong protest and condemnation of the controversial remarks.

The BJP on Sunday suspended its national spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled its Delhi media head Naveen Kumar Jindal after their controversial remarks against the Prophet.

Amid protests by Muslim groups over the remarks, the BJP also issued a statement aimed at assuaging the concerns of minorities and distancing itself from these members, asserting that it respects all religions and strongly denounces the insult of any religious personality.

The controversial remarks also sparked a Twitter trend in the Arab world calling for a boycott of Indian products.

This is not ending well for Nupur and India. I am sure she never expected to become the center of world's attention when he ran her mouth on local TV channel.

Now BJP knows where to draw the line when it comes to trolling and criticism. This is spreading like wild fire all over the world.

I think you are forgetting the backlash the French magazine (I am forgetting its name) faced and all the other European episodes on the matter.

My point was that the some rants get too much attention and some just get ignored. But the lesson is to not play with fire.

Dawkins believes in no religion and merely asked Mahdi Hassan if he believe in a winged horse. Mahdi replied yes. Hindu themselves

Here this hindu lady was mocking the concept and telling the guest to go sit on his horse. Why is she maligning a Muslim for this belief when Hindus believe similar things.

She also started falsely claiming Quran says XYZ , also using Nabi(saw) marriage to mock people.

This was plain and simple hate speech. Lets not compare with a reasonable debate.

Nothing like bad publicity.

She can easily become the mouthpiece of right wing zealots and make a name for herself.

An opportunity has presented itself.

But her claim to fame or shame in this case isn’t Pakistan or Islamic terrorism (subjects which right wing zealots have exploited in Modi era). Mocking the Holy Prophet s.a is an absolute No No! She seems to be taking it very lightly for now, but boy she will have to live the rest of her life with a target on her back!

Exactly, I had the displeasure of viewing the clip before I knew what exactly it was about, wish I hadn't seen it out of respect for our beloved Prophet PBUH and fellow Muslims. May Allah swt forgive me in this matter.

But, what struck me was how hate filled the woman was. She's still young but the malice and venom in her outburst distorting her face making her look much older than she is. It was like Gen. Palpatine turning into Darth Sidious without the help of lightning bolts.

Just shows how ingrained the hate is from top to bottom in the BJP/Hindutva movement.

BJP and Indian democracy now humiliated in UK broadsheets. Telegraph, The Times, and the FT readers having a field day.

There are laws and courts in India. IF these individuals have said anything wrong (even upon provocation), they will be punished. BJP should not be blamed for one of their member's mistake. As far as the Muslim countries are concerned, they will calm down soon, India is too strong for any country to do anything against them. I think most of these countries leaders are just doing their duty by sounding upset. Great things are happening in India under Modi's leadership and more great things will be happening in the decades to come.

Criticism isn't a problem, but there seems to be a line drawn at offensive terms used against the Prophet PBUH. You might desire equal opportunity to make offensive remarks, but that is your desire and your value system. You can't impose that on those who don't agree with it. By all means as a Pagan make insults and mockery of Hindu deities if that is agreeable, no one is stopping you, and I can certainly respect that you enjoy that freedom. Looks like the Arabs won't accept it aimed at their holy figures though, and your govt has endorsed their angry response by chopping the offensive MP from her duties.

This actually I thought was the most disturbing part. Away from the content (which was bad), the tone and the anger was extreme. She was shrieking and gesturing in a really hideous way.

Malaysia now summoning the Indian High Commissioner. So not only gulf countries have reacted, eastern Asian countries Indonesia and Malaysia as well.

Despite the gravity of the situation, this response is unprecedented and has left India rattled.

Fair play to the Qataris for getting the ball rolling.

It just baffles me that Indian posters still do not understand (or act like they don’t) the reason why Muslims are offended

Lol at Al Qaeda. Is this stuff still fooling people?

True. How easily people get fooled by paid Al Qaeda actors. These clowns have mostly been propaganda based stooges used to depict Islam and Muslims as bad crazy fanatics.

Now see how Modi ll use this statement of fake clowns to pull another drama like Uri to drag Pakistan into their mess.

Because we like to find oppurtunities to score points. Right now its our time to bash indians till the time we kill some other minority and the indians start bashing us. Both nations dont give a rats behind regarding minorities, but love to do politics on them.

As for the boycott. Its fun to see because india is always the one boycotting when someone says something that hurts their nationalism, this time they are the ones being boycotted

Despite all the halla-gulla hopefully things ll remain calm in India. Usually its the innocent who suffer most from reactive religious based goons, be it of any religion.

The thread is not about Pakistan bro. Thanks for finally being shamed into turning up, but at least raise yourself above petty politics for once. The religious impact has gone far beyond India/Pakistan, you need to acknowledge it.

Agree . Hopefully this may even help relations between religions in India as RSS members in BJP may incite less hatred . Indian rupee is around 4% down this year , such unrest will hurt it more . BJP members keep their mouths shut , inc changing road names , pretending to find idols in Taj etc it could help heal religious communal tensions . This is the hope Indian Muslims will have but it’s the BJP , they’ll watch some Bollywood pro India film , drink a tiger beer & start mouthing off again imo

Boycott Qatar Airways trends on Twitter after Nupur Sharma’s remarks

Hashtag Boycott Qatar Airways is trending on Twitter after the middle-easter nation asked India for an apology over Nupur Sharma's remarks on Prophet Muhammed.

Twitter has been recently flooded with tweets having Boycott Qatar Airways as hashtags, taking the phrase on the trending list on Twitter. The series of incidents taking the phrase among the trending ones started from the comment of BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and the reaction of the middle eastern country to it. Now, the twitteratis are saying that the country that gave citizenship to Maqbool Fida Hussain (MF Hussain), who made pictures showing nude and obscene photos of Hindu deities is advising India on blasphemy over a statement by Nupur Sharma.

Qatar Airways has now become one of the companies which the Twitteratis want to get banned in India as the company belongs to the middle-eastern nation. One of the Twitter users said, "Please tell us the name of companies like Qatar, Arab, Iran etc, which we can ban in our country."

Please tell us the name of companies like Qatar, Arab, Iran etc which we can ban in our country
#BycottQatarAirways

Earlier, the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Indian ambassador Dr Deepak Mittal and handed him an official note, expressing disappointment and condemnation of the controversial remarks made by an official in the ruling party in India against Prophet Muhammed ANI reported quoting Qatar MOFA.

It is to be noted that along with Qatar, other middle-eastern countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran and Kuwait also condemned the remarks made by Nupur Sharma on the Prophet Muhammed and hence there are demands of banning companies hailing from these nations as well.

Meanwhile, Qatar Airways and IndiGo recently reactivated their codeshare partnership after India resumed regular international passenger flights on March 27. In a codeshare partnership, each carrier on its distribution system can sell seats for other's flights. IndiGo had in November 2019 signed the codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways.

should break all political, diplomatic, commercial, etc. relations with & these countries should be taught a hard lesson for insulting the PM of the world's largest democratic country. #BycottQatarAirways

On April 19, their joint statement said, "As part of this expanded code-share agreement, Qatar Airways will be placing its marketing code on IndiGo operated flights between Doha and Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, starting from April 25, and Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Kozhikode, starting from May 9."

This is what you said:

Are you assuming everyone is extremely naive and won't know who you are referring to? I think better for you to step aside and let Indians speak for themselves.

Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput tweeted a photo. He also wrote an angry text with that photo. Our opposition to Modi is in the country, we will defeat Modi and BJP and the country in a democratic way. This is what you said:

Because we like to find oppurtunities to score points. Right now its our time to bash indians till the time we kill some other minority and the indians start bashing us.

Are you assuming everyone is extremely naive and won't know who you are referring to? I think better for you to step aside and let Indians speak for themselves.

Again where did i mention pakistan. It could be muslims.

Funny how you are asking to step aside, considering you are british and have nothing to do with this . Now outsiders will tell me to step aside :)

Maybe Indian fans will chant Kuwait Murdabad as revenge in a India V Sri Lanka cricket fixture and give Pakistan some time off from the hate speech.

In all seriousness I think he has deliberately thrown BJP ministers under the bus by asking them to take Action. What can they even do about it?

"India summons the Kuwaiti envoy to express outrage at image of Modi being used on bins" would be a great headline to wake up to.

This is real bad news, I expect full boycott of all Indian products from all of the middle east starting any day now.

This is the end for PM Modi...

Sighhhh it was nice while it lasted....

I live in Australia and Muslim countries actions won’t affect me. As I said earlier, I have never voted for BJP and never will. Unfortunately I can’t do nothing to prevent the idiots in North India voting for BJP. I hope this boycott put some sense in them.

Nonetheless being off Indian ethnicity it will effect you if the Muslim's boycott India. It will upset you if Hindu's living in Arab and Muslim countries are bullied and made to leave the region. I am not religious yet insults to the Prophet(saw) upset even the most non religious of Muslim's.

This might be another Congress turncoat who is willing to cross over to sanghi camp.

In any case its feku who has brought this onto himself. He has always sown hate so will reap only hate.

In a way this guy has unwittingly (perhaps) given greater publicity to this pic.

The blame lies only and only with those brown-nosing Indian hindu liberals who are doing bhangra from last 3-4 days. Unfortunately I dont have enough adjective to define them.
Don't consider myself liberal nor do I know how to do bhangra. But this is what I know how to do and feel about the BJP right now

Jakarta/Kuala Lumpur: Indonesia and Malaysia summoned India’s envoys on Tuesday to protest over derogatory remarks made about the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) by two members of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The move came as anger spread across the Muslim world, with various Middle Eastern nations summoning New Delhi’s envoys and a Kuwaiti supermarket removing Indian products.

Remarks by a spokeswoman for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who has since been suspended, sparked the furore.

Another official, the party’s media chief for Delhi, posted a tweet last week about the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) that was later deleted.

Indonesian foreign ministry spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah said India’s ambassador in Jakarta, Manoj Kumar Bharti, was summoned, with the government lodging a complaint about anti-Muslim rhetoric.

BJP members asked to exercise caution

In a statement posted on Twitter, the ministry said Indonesia -- the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country -- “strongly condemns unacceptable derogatory rely marks” made by two Indian politicians against the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him).

The tweet did not mention the officials by name, but was an apparent reference to BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma and the party’s Delhi media chief Naveen Jindal, who was expelled from the BJP, according to Indian media reports.

Malaysia’s foreign ministry said it “unreservedly condemns the derogatory remarks” by Indian politicians, adding that it had conveyed its “total repudiation” to the Indian ambassador.

“Malaysia calls upon India to work together in ending Islamophobia and cease any provocative acts in the interest of peace and stability,” it said.

BJP admonishes members

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has instructed its members to be “extremely cautious” when talking about religion on public platforms after derogatory remarks about the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) drew protests from Muslim nations.

Muslims across India have felt more pressure on everything from freedom of worship to hijab during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule. There were Hindu-Muslim clashes during processions recently, following deadly riots in 2019-20.

Two BJP leaders said the verbal instructions were given to over 30 senior officials and some federal ministers who are authorised to take part in debates hosted by Indian news channels.

“We don’t want party officials to speak in a way that hurts the religious sentiments of any community...They must ensure the party’s doctrine gets shared in a sophisticated manner,” said a senior BJP leader and federal minister in New Delhi.

With about 110 million members, mainly Hindus, the BJP is the world’s largest political party, while Muslims comprise around 13 per cent of India’s 1.35 billion population.

Last week the BJP suspended the spokeswoman and expelled another official after Muslim nations sought apologies from the Indian government and summoned diplomats to protest remarks made during a TV debate.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Afghanistan and Iran were among the nations that made their complaints public.

All those who say this matter should end now that the lady has apologized. Well the only reason she apologized (was hardly an apology though) was because the way all this escalated.

Had there been no outrage, there won't have been any action on this.

It just baffles me that Indian posters still do not understand (or act like they don’t) the reason why Muslims are offended
I've already stated that she shouldn't have said this as a party spokesperson. She deserves all the hate she's getting for all the hate she has spread over the last few years.

But do Muslims ever wonder if their Prophet or God need defending. Why is it so important. They are not your equal as per your belief. It's the equivalent of Indian and Pakistani ants forming an army to join an Ind-Pak war.

Putting Modi on a bin is not the same as putting the Indian flag on a bin. Modi is not India. It shouldn't matter.

Just hope that Al Qaeda threat is not credible and no Indians are hurt by terrorism. Bcoz if it happens, I fear a backlash towards Indian muslims. People like Zoo Bear and thekedar's of secular gang will be safe ofcourse...its the innocent people who will get hurt.

I already see tide turning and lots of support/sympathy pouring in for Nupur Sharma.

Well.... The PTI MNA who threatened to suicide bombing has apologised and people have moved on.

It seems Pakistani people have more understanding and forgiveness than a few "liberal" Indians here in PP.

People utter words which they regret later on and rectify themselves. It's a natural human course.

This actually I thought was the most disturbing part. Away from the content (which was bad), the tone and the anger was extreme. She was shrieking and gesturing in a really hideous way.

To the highlighted bit.

She repeated what AL Bukhari wrote in the Hadith, so do you feel what Bukhari wrote was bad ?

Any new updates ? Have the Saudi's & UAE started the boycott of Indian products ? When I mean Saudi's & UAE, I don't mean the local Saudi & UAE Quickee marts or other shop owners, I mean from the the government themselves.

Yeah because our coward andhbhakhts can't do anything against Al Qaeda they will take revenge from Indian muslims instead. Waah Bhaijaan Waah. :inti

Modi moved heavens to mend ties with Arab world. But Nupur Sharma, Tejasvi Surya hurting it

Ironically, it's the Arab world–littered with autocracies and undemocratic regimes–that's teaching India a lesson in harmony as it celebrates its 75th birthday.

From Home Minister Amit Shah’s disparaging comments describing Bangladeshis as “termites” to Bharatiya Janata Party MP Tejasvi Surya equating the Muslim invasion of India to the Holocaust to BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal insulting Prophet Muhammad — India’s image as a unique, multi-ethnic and multi-religious democracy is at serious risk.

At last count, Qatar, Kuwait, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Maldives, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Indonesia had condemned the derogatory remarks against the Holy Prophet made by the two BJP politicians about 10 days ago. Even the Taliban did not spare India.

As if this wasn’t enough, the Akshay Kumar-starrer Samrat Prithviraj, which was released to much fanfare last week with none other than Amit Shah attending the premiere with his entire family, is being banned by Kuwait and Oman.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has scrambled to damage control the backlash by describing Sharma and Jindal as “fringe elements” who did not represent the views of the Narendra Modi government. But except for striking at the OIC, which the MEA accused of making “motivated, misleading and mischievous statements,” it has more or less held its tongue.

Taking a beating before the world

There is shame and acknowledgement inside the Indian government that the ruling BJP hasn’t been able to control some of its loudmouths; that this is having an impact not just on domestic politics but also on India’s painstakingly built reputation of being a secular State. In the 75th year of its Independence, India’s self-image as a power to reckon with has taken a big beating. Fact is, the hate speech and tweet by the two BJP politicians was in the public domain for several days before the Arab world got involved — the action was taken only when one Muslim nation after another began to scold India.

Significantly, the Indian diaspora in the Arab world, as many as 18 million people, seem to be a worried lot. Several belong to the working class, having polished the shining cities of the Gulf with the sweat off their backs, but many others are very much a part of the elite in those nations. The unstated fear that they could become outsiders or that the bonds of trust they have forged with the Arab elite over decades could fray is entering their worldview for the first time.

Mending ties through the years

Ironically, the two Modi governments have moved heaven and earth these last eight years to improve ties with several Gulf nations. Saudi Arabian crown prince Muhammed bin Salman Al Saud was a treasured guest in February 2019, warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his trademark embrace. Qatar is believed to have significant security cooperation with India. PM Modi has invested enormously in improving India’s ties with the UAE — it has even helped the Emirati royalty save face by preventing a Dubai princess, Latifa, from entering India and returning her to her father.

The Arab world responded with a great deal of affection. Trade with the six Gulf States is soaring with India importing $110.73 billion worth of goods in FY 2020-2021, of which Saudi Arabia took the lion’s share at $43 billion. India depends hugely on the oil economies of Saudi Arabia — and earlier, Iran — to sustain itself. Qatar is its leading supplier of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). At least two-thirds of India’s $85 billion remittances from abroad come from the Gulf. A free trade agreement with the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States is on the cards. The UAE reciprocated the services of the large Indian community by building a spanking new temple, which PM Modi inaugurated during his 2018 visit to Abu Dhabi.

But the BJP politicians’ remarks have lit a fire across the Arab world. The region is gobsmacked that India, with a 200-million community of Muslims of its own, can allow this kind of hate speech to rule the airwaves.

Lined up ‘fiascos’

In an interview with ThePrint, Talmiz Ahmad, former ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Omar & UAE, said that India crossed a red line when it allowed the Holy Prophet to be criticised. A former ambassador to the UAE and Egypt, Navdeep Suri, remembered that Tejasvi Surya had — in 2015 and again in 2019 — taunted Arab women about their alleged lack of sexual prowess. A former ambassador to Syria and an old Arab hand, Rajendra M. Abhyankar, referred to Surya’s recent comment in Australia likening the Muslim invasion of India to the Holocaust and asked why MPs were not “properly trained” before they were given political clearance and allowed to travel abroad.

In the aforesaid interview, Suri also described the events as a “diplomatic fiasco”. Abhyankar remembered that the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition had stirred the Muslim world in similar ways, but the Grand Mufti of Syria understood his explanation of this being a one-off event that has slipped out of the government’s control. However, Talmiz Ahmad said the current normalisation of hate against the Muslim community was a far cry from what had happened in 1992.

India’s image as a soft power has been considerably damaged by these careless comments. But instead of applying salve on the injury, pro-BJP trolls on social media have only fanned the flames. Certainly, the Modi government is hoping the worst is over. Moreover, the events of the past few days have been an important reminder of the seamless interconnectedness of the world.

Ironically, it is the Arab world – littered with autocracies and undemocratic regimes – that has taught the Modi government a lesson in communal harmony even as it celebrates India’s 75th birthday.

It is high time that pro-BJP trolls control their emotions on social media and don't embarrass India further in front of the world. These jaahils are the reasons why India is in such a mess today. They have been hurting the sentiments of Indian muslims for far too long. Hopefully this is a beginning of the end of BJP's third class hindu vs muslim politics. :inti

I fail to understand the connection with forgiving Pakistanis and Indian posters, to the whole Muslims worlds reaction to the deplorable comments made by the lady.

She is no religious scholar & used one Hadith to conclude something in a negative way . Surely as a devout Hindu she is aware of Hindu texts which are far more specific & pretty much demand child marriage . A 1/3rd of all child brides are from India. Over a million child children are involved in prostitution in India . I could go on all day but my point is she doesn’t care for children or is even educated enough to understand her own faith. Therefore being the spokeswoman it was seen as nothing but inciting hatred .

Her biggest accomplishment in her life will be uniting Muslim nations against Hindutva . You won’t see her in politics again . She ruined her own career , such an idiotic woman.

They don't even have balls to take the blame themselves.

Their cycle is

1. Blame Indian Muslims
2. Blame Pakistanis
3. Blame Indian Liberals.

Brother,

My question was specific because James said the content which the BJP lady used was bad, so naturally I want to know what James's opinion is off Al Bukhari the man responsible for quoting the Prophet's marriage and relationship with Aeisha.

India might have plenty of underaged marriages or Pakistan might be filled with incest of cousin marriages but that is not the issue here.

Also nowhere in Vedas or other Hindu text does it promote child marriage as far as I know..

I was talking about residential Pakistanis and residential Indians here in this regard. Apologies since I didn't mention it. They will grasp the post more accurate manner.

People are imperfect. But from pov of philosophy, religious scriptures can not be (for those who follow it). Since James said that the content was bad, it brings the question of if she misunderstood the content and hence misinterpretation or is there any validity to her claims?

As far as I remember, there is also a thread on PP about this same topic and Muslim posters themselves were divided.

Oh ok, so the residential Pakistanis and residential Indians are responsible for anger of the Muslim world, not the BJP spokeswoman.

Makes sense. Thank you.

Cousin marriages are not the same as child marriages bro and it’s not incest . The history of the royal family of uk Is of such marriages, also Hindus marry cousins too .

I’ll start a thread not to offend but it’s interesting you’re not aware so will be helpful for Hindus going forward to discuss their own scriptures before discussing others .

Let’s stick to this for now . Has Modi or Shah commented on this yet ?

I won't ever associate regret with sanghis especially when it comes to insulting other religions.

Mind you, this so-called regret came only after huge outcry over her comments in gulf nations and the same affecting our trade with them. Had this been a true regret, she would have immediately withdrawn her comments but she didn't.

Lol, taking a dig at liberals just because sanghis are getting lambasted from all corners. Well done

This is sanghi sympathizers' standard reply whenever they are getting bombarded from all concerned.
