BJP in damage control mode after calls grow for boycott of Indian goods in the Arab world

Two weeks after objectionable statements against Prophet Muhammad and Islam by two BJP leaders, one on national television and the other on Twitter, the police have registered a case against several people for hate speech, inciting groups, and creating situations that disturb society's peace and harmony. Two FIRs have been registered, naming BJP spokespersons, a journalist, social media users, and members of various religious organisations.

Notably, the police action comes soon after a massive diplomatic storm caused by objectionable and communal remarks by now suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal, the party's Delhi media cell head who has also been expelled. While Ms Sharma's comments were made during a debate on a news channel, Mr Jindal is under fire for a tweet.

The delay in police action has been questioned by many as similar hate speech has often been made both on TV and social media. The timing, right after over 16 countries slammed the remarks by the two BJP leaders, has also caused speculation. It is still unclear if the case was registered based on a complaint or if the cyber unit of Delhi Police's special cell took suo motu cognisance. The police have asserted that they regularly monitor social media for hate speech and incitement to violence.

Several countries in the Gulf region had summoned Indian Ambassadors and conveyed their concerns about "growing extremism and hatred". Many have even demanded a "public apology" from New Delhi for the comments that were considered "Islamophobic".

Among those named in the police case or FIR, registered by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operation (IFSO) unit of the Special Cell, are Naveen Kumar Jindal, the expelled head of Delhi BJP's media unit, Shadab Chauhan, the chief spokesperson of Peace Party, journalist Saba Naqvi, Hindu Mahasabha office-bearer Pooja Shakun Pandey, Maulana Mufti Nadeem from Rajasthan, Abdur Rehman, Anil Kumar Meena and Gulzar Ansari, the police said.

Pooja Shakun Pandey, who uses the alias 'Annapurna Maa', was recently charged for her controversial call to ban Friday prayers. She has also been accused of giving a public call to arms and incitement to mass murder.

A second FIR was also registered under similar sections against suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and other social media users, police have said.

"The FIR is against several individuals cutting across religions," Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO) KPS Malhotra has said.

"The unit will investigate the roles of various social media entities in promoting false and wrong information with an intention to create unrest in the cyberspace and that have ramifications on the physical space thereby compromising with the social fabric of the country," Mr Malhotra said.

I know Bhakths here in Australia and US who sell beef products in their servos and gas stations but oppose that in India. It has always been about money.
I have come across so many of these pests who collected crores in the name of constructing Ram temple from unsuspecting Hindus. It happened in the early '90s and it is still happening.

You know when BJP is in trouble when Bal Thackeray sounds the most sane voice in India .
It's Raj Thackeray, Bal Thackeray's son who is in alliance with Congress and NCP, so-called secular parties. That's why his tone is changed.

Had he still been in alliance with sanghis, he would have been singing a completely different song.

That's how opportunistic Indian political parties are!

hashtags blaming the group for spreading the virus trended on social media, and news networks broadcast incendiary headlines such as "Save the country from Corona jihad".

India charged nearly a thousand people who attended the congregation for flouting lockdown protocols. (Eight months later, courts had acquitted the last of the detained preachers, saying they had been "maliciously prosecuted" under directions from the government.)

Most of the preachers came from Indonesia, a trading partner of India. Not surprisingly, Indonesia expressed its disquiet over the issue at regional summit meetings. The country's lawmakers alleged that the controversy was being used to taint Muslims in Hindu-majority India. A former Indian diplomat said this was an example of "externalisation" of domestic issues.

India's ongoing diplomatic firefighting over offensive comments made by two senior members of the BJP about the Prophet Muhammad is not the first time that Mr Modi's party or government has faced global censure for alleged Islamophobia.

Two years ago BJP MP Tejasvi Surya found himself in the centre of a storm when his 2015 tweet on Arab women went viral. Prominent businesspeople, lawyers and commentators in Dubai and Kuwait condemned his remarks. (Mr Surya deleted the tweet later.)

In a 2018 public meeting, India's interior minister Amit Shah said that Bangladeshi citizens who had entered India illegally were "infiltrators" who had "eaten our country like termites".

This whipped up a storm in Muslim-majority Bangladesh, where a senior minister described the remark by India' second most powerful leader as "unwanted and uninformed". A Bangladeshi columnist wrote that Mr Shah "had a long history of making hateful, insulting remarks about Bangladesh".

Over the past year, India has been hit by a tsunami of hate speech by saffron-robed right-wing Hindu radical leaders against the country's 200 million-strong Muslim community. Some of them have openly exhorted Hindus to take up arms and spoken about genocide of Muslims.

In the past, the right-wing has raised the bogey of so called "love jihad", a baseless conspiracy theory accusing Muslim men of converting Hindu women by marriage. Vigilante Hindu mobs have lynched suspected Muslim cow smugglers and demanded a boycott of businesses owned by the community.

On social media, female Muslim journalists and social workers have been ferociously trolled. Muslim women have been put up for sale in fake online auctions. Partisan news networks have added fuel to the fire by provoking participants into taking up extreme positions during shrill talk shows.

Mr Modi's government has either maintained a studied silence, been slow to respond or blamed "fringe elements" for such actions.

All this appears to have emboldened ordinary Hindus to go online and tarnish Muslims. There have been consequences. In 2018, a popular Indian-origin chef working in a Dubai hotel was fired for posting an anti-Islamic tweet. When Indians living in Dubai began posting anti-Tablighi Jamaat tweets in 2020, a local businesswoman with links to the ruling royal family tweeted that "anyone that is openly racist and discriminatory in the UAE will be fined and made to leave".

This time too, unsurprisingly, the blowback has been fierce - 15 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Qatar, have lodged protests with India. Making derogatory remarks against the Prophet was clearly "crossing the red line", says Talmiz Ahmad, a former Indian diplomat.

Mr Modi's government has been forced to suspend its spokesperson for her remarks. It is a reminder that "targeting minorities with impunity, and hate speech with official sanction, will have repercussions for India's global reputation," notes Pratap Bhanu Mehta, a leading scholar.

In private, many BJP leaders believe that the outrage will soon die down, and it will be business as usual.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi (R) welcomes Sheikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Crown Prince Court of Abu Dhabi, to the founding conference of the International Solar Alliance in New Delhi on March 11, 2018.

After all, India has an old and deep relationship with the Gulf countries. Some 8.5 million Indians work in the six Gulf countries belonging to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), more than double the number of Pakistanis, the next highest expatriate workforce.

Indians also form the largest expat community in each of these countries. They send home some $35bn every year in remittances that support 40 million family members at home, many in some of India's poorest states such as BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh. Trade between India and GCC countries is about $87bn. Iraq is the largest exporter of oil to India, followed by Saudi Arabia. More than 40% of India's natural gas comes from Qatar.

Prime Minister Modi himself has made relations with Gulf countries a priority. "India has a significant relationship with West Asian countries in terms of energy security, employment of people as migrants and remittances that they send back," says Srinath Raghavan, a professor of history and international relations at the Ashoka University.

But India cannot be complacent and take things for granted. "It's a myopic way of looking at things," says Mr Ahmad, the former diplomat who is also author of a new book, West Asia at War. "Indians have built a reputation as an apolitical, law-abiding and technically proficient people in these countries. If such offensive talk continues, employers in the Gulf could quietly start moving away from hiring Indians. Why would they risk hiring a potential zealot?"

This time Mr Modi's government, experts believe, appears to have reacted late, but resolutely. "There seems to be an acknowledgement that if these things happen there can be consequences. Domestic and foreign politics are not insulated. The government has to make up its mind. Does it really want to get into rabble rousing?" Prof Raghavan says.

This episode has strengthened Nupur's political profile. Won't be surprised if she is handed an important ministry in the years to come. She can't lose any election now.

An official of India's ruling party has been named by police in a case for inciting people after her insulting remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) spurred a string of condemnations from the oil-rich Gulf states and other Muslim-majority nations.

Nurpur Sharma, spokeswoman for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been named in one of two cases registered for "inciting people on the basis of various divisive lines," the Delhi police said on Thursday.

Indian journalist and author Saba Naqvi was also booked in the case after an alleged anti-Hindu tweet.

On Sunday, BJP suspended the membership of Sharma, and another worker Naveen Kumar Jindal was expelled from the party over comments he made about Islam on social media.

Sharma had made insulting remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in a television debate, triggering a wave of condemnations within India and from the Islamic world.

More than a dozen countries -- as well as international organisations -- condemned the controversial remarks.

Calls have grown for a boycott of Indian products in Gulf countries, while the BJP has suspended Sharma and asked its spokespeople to speak more responsibly in public.

The latest development comes as Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian is on a three-day visit to New Delhi.

Abdollahian met Ajit Kumar Doval, India's national security adviser on Wednesday.

In a statement issued after the meeting, Iran said the Indian top official expressed regret over the recent controversy and promised action.

In India, the filing of a complaint is the first process in any police investigation and is typically followed by questioning of the accused.

Sharma did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent via a Twitter direct message. Reuters could not find a phone number or email address for her. A BJP spokesperson did not answer his phone.

Sharma said on Twitter on Sunday her comment on the prophet was in response to "continuous insult and disrespect" towards a Hindu god during the TV debate, but that she had withdrawn her statement.

Many Indian TV stations regularly host debates on communal issues where Muslim and Hindu speakers shout at each other.

In the middle of a massive diplomatic row over comments on Prophet Muhammad by members of the ruling BJP, Iran appears to have changed its version of its Foreign minister's meeting today with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in Delhi by pulling down an earlier press statement.

The earlier Iranian statement claimed that its Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian had been told by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval that those who made the controversial remarks against the Prophet "would be taught a lesson". This line no longer finds mention on the Iranian foreign ministry website.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abdollahian is the first big visitor from Iran days after the country joined Kuwait, Qatar and other Gulf nations in condemning the Prophet comments.

"Pleased to meet PM Modi, FM Jaishankar and other Indian officials to advance our bilateral strategic dialogue. Tehran & New Delhi agree on the need to respect divine religions & Islamic sanctities & to avoid divisive statements. determined to bring relations to new heights," the minister tweeted after the meeting last night.

The External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said that the Prophet remarks was never raised in discussions with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. "We have made it pretty clear the tweets and comments do not convey the views of the government. This has been conveyed to our interlocutors as also the fact that action has been taken by the concerned quarters against those who made the comments and tweets. I really do not have anything additional to say on this," the official said.

News agency PTI had quoted the earlier Iranian readout as saying Mr Abdollahian raised the issue of the "negative atmosphere" triggered by "disrespectful" comments on the Prophet and that the Indian side reiterated the Indian government's respect for the founder of Islam.

The readout, according to PTI, said the Iranian foreign minister also referred to the historical friendship between the followers of various religions in the country.

"Abdollahian hailed the Indian people and government for their respect for the divine faiths, especially the Prophet Mohammad and also for the religious tolerance, historical coexistence and friendship among followers of various religions in the country," the readout said.

The Iranian foreign minister said, "Muslims are satisfied with the stance of Indian officials in dealing with the culprits."

The BJP on Sunday suspended Nupur Sharma, its national spokesperson, and expelled the party's Delhi unit media head Naveen Jindal, over their comments on the Prophet.

Several countries, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Indonesia, Jordan, Bahrain, Maldives, Malaysia, Oman, Iraq and Libya, denounced the comments and many summoned Indian envoys to express their condemnation.

Iran's IRNA news agency quoted Mr Abdollahian as saying ahead of the talks that his trip to India is taking place in a situation in which a member of a party "insulted" Prophet Muhammad in an arbitrary act.

He said India has "constantly followed up peaceful coexistence and tried to live in peace and tranquillity" and noted that "Muslims cannot tolerate the sacrilege of the Prophet of Islam at all," according to IRNA.

Always said that the leaders and politicians are a reflection of the people they represent.

New Delhi: Massive protests flared in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur, Prayagraj and Moradabad on Friday over remarks by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and her former colleague Naveen Kumar Jindal that have triggered a huge international row.

The demonstrations in Delhi erupted outside the Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, after the Friday prayers. The protesters demanded the arrest of Nupur Sharma and dispersed after about an hour.

The Shahi Imam of the Jama Masjid said the authorities had not called for the protest. "We don't know who started it. Some people shouted slogans after the Friday prayers and a large crowd gathered. They dispersed soon. Everything is fine now," he told NDTV.

"People protested at Jama Masjid against the statements of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma and expelled BJP leader Naveen Kumar Jindal. We have removed the people from there. The situation is under control now," the Delhi Police told ANI.

Hundreds of protesters were also seen taking to the streets and shops shutting down in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur, Moradabad and Prayagraj.

In other cities like Lucknow, Kanpur and Firozabad, the police have tightened security. Kanpur had seen clashes last week over the controversy that left around 40 people injured.

There was no report of any violence from any of the areas so far, authorities in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh said.

The police in Delhi on Thursday had filed a complaint against Ms Sharma, Mr Jindal, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and others for "inciting people on divisive lines" on social media.

They said they had registered two preliminary complaints - known as first information reports - on the basis "of social media analysis against those trying to disrupt public tranquillity & inciting people on divisive lines".

BJP's Pragya Thakur Defends Suspended Leader Nupur Sharma In Prophet Row

Sadhvi Pragya Thakur took to Twitter to extend her support to Sharma. He wrote, "If telling the truth is rebellion, then by that coin, I am also a rebel."

Bhopal: Bhartiya Janata Party MP Sadhvi Pragya Thakur on Friday came out in support of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma saying "if telling the truth is rebellion, then I am also a rebel".
Sadhvi Pragya Thakur took to Twitter to extend her support to Nupur Sharma. He wrote, "If telling the truth is rebellion, then by that coin, I am also a rebel."

Speaking to the media later, she said that India belongs to the Hindus and Sanatana Dharma will stay here.

When asked about her opinion on Nupur Sharma's death threats, she said, "These non-believers have always done so. Like Kamlesh Tiwari said something he was killed. Someone else (Nupur Sharma) said something and they also received a death threat. They distort our gods and goddess and make films about them. They have been doing this for years... That shows their mentality."

She added, "This is Bharat (India). India belongs to Hindus and Sanatana Dharma will stay here. It is our responsibility and we shall do so."

Kamlesh Tiwari was murdered at his residence in Lucknow's Khursheed Bagh neighbourhood on October 18, 2019, with stabs and a gunshot. Mr Tiwari's own outfit, the Hindu Samaj Party, was a little known organisation but he was an active functionary of the Hindu Mahasabha earlier.

Former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma claimed she has been receiving death threats following her controversial religious remarks against Prophet. The Bharatiya Janata Party has suspended Nupur Sharma from the party's primary membership after her alleged inflammatory remarks against minorities.

The BJP leader's remark drew sharp reactions from Gulf countries. India has said that it had taken strong action against those who made controversial remarks against minorities.

Is he suggesting the speaker woman should be forgiven?

BJP votes increasing by the minute. The opposition in India is hopeless.

Hello Joshilabhai :)

Are you suggesting it was a good thing for India what the BJP spokeswoman stated?

Btw you mentioned most Arab nations wouldnt dare to criticise India on this a while ago. What do you think happened and are you surprised by it?

The BJP person violated Indian laws. So.to suspend her is the right decision.

Regarding boycott, it ain't gonna happen. Qatar isnt UAE or Saudi.

That is exactly what Iran Pathan is saying.

Do you think Nupur should be forgiven and everyone should go back to their regular jobs?

Its my place to say, Im not Indian like Pathan but imo he is wrong, she should never be a politician again, sacked for not only being stupid enough to say such a thing as spokeswoman but also it will help stop other RSS BJP members to think before speaking.

Only Qatar did anything noteworthy. Rest did a follow up job for the sake of it. It was very evident.

The bjp spokie has been suspended and FIR lodged. This is not an islamic nation so there won't be any death sentence.

These violent protests by Muslims has only consolidated the hindu votes towards the BJP. And now anyone will be arrested at the drop of a hat if they talk anything negative about Hinduism. All in all, its a win for the BJP.

RSS or BJP will do what they want to as long as it is within the laws of the land. They were on the backfoot here because they spokesperson violated IPC 295A.

BJP votes increasing by the minute. The opposition in India is hopeless.

I'm sure the Godi media is working overtime to ensure this.

I'm not saying Muslims are saints. Have never said this. I have multiple posts calling out Muslims when they deserve to be called out. There are Islamic groups in India that should be banned and leaders arrested. But the BJP needs to understand one simple thing. We have 200 million Muslims. That's more than 25% the population of Europe, 66% the population of USA and 10 times the population of Australia. The BJP cannot just wish them away. They have an equal stake here and yet are among the most backward communities socially and economically. The vast majority of Indian Muslims just want to get by but the BJP seems hell bent on bringing them out onto the streets. For almost a decade now, they've been othered, insulted, dehumanized and needled with relentless pinpricks. Have you ever thought how it must feel to be a Muslim and turn on Indian television and hear some third-class guy who has only found his voice and a purpose in life since Modi arrived, barking at another Muslim guest - Ey mullah, maulana sit down and be quiet. And despite the multiple provocations, Indian Muslims have been mostly restrained wistfully hoping, that this too shall pass. Even today the head of the Jama Masjid had this to say

"It's important to take permission for a demonstration like this. Looking at the state of affairs in India now, such a demonstration was not reasonable," Syed Ahmed Bukhari said.

"No more protests should be organised. Ultimately the loss lies with us," he added.

It is disheartening sometimes to see how far Indian Muslims are trying to keep things peaceful. It's disheartening because you know, everything has its limits and the BJP seems hellbent on pushing the country into anarchy.

Seriously think about what you're wishing for. The reality might not be what you envisioned. But it will be too late then.

Any Hindu who thinks Modi's BJP has their best interests in mind, is terribly mistaken. If Modi's BJP continues to win, an urban Brahmin Hindu who feels most privileged today, will be as much under threat as Muslims feel today.

Indian ambassadors were summoned in various Muslim nations, this is noteworthy in politics.

No Islamic nation gives the death penalty for such talk. You sneaked in the Hindutva mindset here didn't you? :sachin

Violent protests have been done by Hindus many times, jumping up and down on minarets like monkeys. This is part of Indian culture not specific to Muslims.

As the RSS/BJP expert, any predicitions what will happen to the two concerned? A gold medal under the table and recall to politics next year?

Even in the crackpot world of BJP/Hindutva politics, she's finished and ain't coming back. BJP bowing their heads in front of the Gulf nations has seen to that.

Qatar summoned the Indian ambassador. Later India issued a statement to OIC. Read it and you will know how much significance India is giving to this.

Blasphemy is punishable by death. Read 295C of the PPC.

Muslims are free to vote anyone they want.

I mean, seriously woman?

What is 295C? Post a link.

So are Hindus and many will vote against BJP as I assume most Hindus are not extremists.

Muslims are protesting all over India.

@3.56, look at the love this guy has for his country, for Hindu/Muslim unity and the respect for Hindus. Such a world away from the hate agenda of the BJP, bakhts and related cronies.

Something they could a learn and few of the BJP cheerleaders on this forum as well. But alas, you may as well talk to a brick wall as they are hell bent on driving their hate agenda at all costs.

This thing is getting massively overblown. There are tons of videos from Ex-Muslims in India which use far worse language towards Islam. No one cares about it even though those Youtube videos get thousands of views every day.

Bottom line is that its all politics. Majority protests happening in Bengal and UP.

Its good to see Indian Muslims finally standing up to Hindutva extremists. Its been a pattern of hate towards them since Modi came into power. Eventually they will have enough.

India is a ticking time bomb, clashes could become very worse in time if BJP/RSS arent stopped in their hatred.

Dude, she is a member of a party whose leaders have caused riots and mayhem around India for decades.
So its no wonder she said those things.

Local.Dada and others are either showing little comprehension capability or willful ignorance.

A few facts below:

1) She is a spokesperson of a ruling party; not a random person off the street. Her words carry weight. Even if the other Muslim men were goading her, they are largely irrelevant people at end of day. Her words represent the stance of party in government unless stated otherwise. So it’s wrong to equate the two.

2) The whole topic of debate was around the Shivling (?) and the mosque in question. The debate was around whether there was an actual shivling or not. So questioning that isn’t goading a Hindu. If it is then issue should have been taken with the Channel and show, not Muslim community and Islam.

3) I have read in many places, idiots asking ‘even if she did say that what’s wrong, she is only quoting Quran.’ Firstly these numpties should understand she didn’t quite Quran. Secondly, it’s the tone and intention of what she said. She also mocked Buraaq and Mairaj and said the maulana should disappear away on the horse. That is clear intention to insult.

She will come back, may be as an independent.

Lol sure they would have. They have not only bowed down but throw their spokesperson under the bus

I would recommend to do some research on it.

Agree, everyone should do this research. So the moral of the story is that you can state the facts about a religion, you just have to watch your tone. I am sure Nupur will be careful in future.

As usual sanghis trying to cover up BJP's humiliation. Image they try to create of strong India, independent India has gone down the drain by BJP bending over backwards so quickly 😂. This is rather fun to watch all the sanghis nationalist losing their kool on social media over BJP's apparently cowardly response according to them haha

She is a nobody. She apologized and that is the end of it. No point in doing public demonstrations and damaging public property.
What protestors are doing is nothing but showing street power. Shops closed for the past few days, vehicles burned and stone pelting are not acceptable for any civilized group of people.

I agree. but why has it come to this. You think it is just the Nupur incident?

BJP and their ilk have been testing the patience of Muslim community. They've tried to bring in CAA laws targeting Muslims, blamed the initial corona spread on Muslim held events, remember 'Tablighi jamaat'?, bulldozing properties of Muslims majorly under the caveat of demolishing illegal properties. Heck this Hitler-wannabe himself uttered this line "you can identify the protestors by their clothes" when CAA was being protested. Guess the other hindus who were protesting and most notably Deepika Padukone are Muslim then? Nope, but the rioter-in-chief of Gujarat riot fame had to make rest of the nation believe it was one community causing issue.

Violence is never justified. and rioting is never a solution. But the situation has reached to this level because of the government's continuous vendetta against one community, they're playing with fire and what we're seeing is a result of that, if government keeps pitting hindus and muslims, don't be surprised if situation only gets worse from here and while people committing violence and riots are no better, the blame will fall squarely on government because they incited this.

A few things, per Pakistanis here, apparently Indians are on their knees..

- So has the Indian leadership put out an official apology ?

- Has the Saudi's & UAE put economic blockade or sanctions on India ?

Surely the second point must be in full flow now, afterall their prophet was insulted...

Waiting...

Waiting..

The numerous other nations summoning Indian ambassadors should be embarrassing for you but hey it seems you feel sorry for these extremists?

What is 295C? Post a link.

So are Hindus and many will vote against BJP as I assume most Hindus are not extremists.

1. Which numerous nations summoned the Indian ambassador?

2. What extremist? Insulting religious figures is blasphemy not extremism. In many countries it will be considered part of FOE.

3. Google Pakistan Penal Code 295C.

4. Why will many hindus vote against BJP? So that a minority gets veto over the rest 80 per cent population? Lol.

I have just one question, you are justifying this street power of one community, what will happen if Hindus start a retaliation? Then those showing street power today will start crying and play the victim card.

I don't know which state you live in, but CAA doesn't take away anyone's citizenship, rather it helps persecuted minorities of certain countries who are already living in India as refugees get easy citizenship. By the way CAA is already a law.

Gujarat riot fame? 60 hindus were burnt to death in a train by muslims. Why? To scare the hindus? What did they think? Hindus wont retaliate?

The sooner the Muslim community learns that their street power will not achieve anything in majority of India the better. Their political veto vote bank veto is gone. So their street hooligans will either be tackled by the law enforcement authorities or by other communities on the street. Only in some opposition states they will get the free card to do all this.

NRC is very much needed in India. Being from a border state and seeing the ever changing demography of my state due to illegal immigration doesn't make me feel very safe.

More than 200 people have been arrested in six districts in Uttar Pradesh over violence in connection with recent remarks by now-suspended BJP leader on Prophet Muhammad.

Sixty-eight people were arrested from Prayagraj, while 50 people were taken into police custody in Hathras. Forty-eight people were picked up from Saharanpur, followed by Ambedkarnagar (28 arrests), Moradabad (25 arrests) and eight arrests in Ferozabad.

Altogether, 227 people have been arrested in these six districts in connection with the protests over suspended Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nupur Sharma and expelled party leader Naveen Jindal's comments on Prophet Muhammad.

The arrests, police said, are being made based on the video footage sourced from the protest sites.

"We have identified people based who were part of the protests and arrested them. Protests were held in these places despite the administrations' appeal for calm," said senior police officer Prashant Kumar told NDTV.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's office said that officials have been given liberty and clear instructions to take stringent action against "anti-social elements".

"The CM has given liberty and clear instructions to the officials to take stringent action against anti-social elements. Those who take the law into their hands will be taught strict lessons," his office said in a statement.

A clash erupted in parts of Prayagaraj between police and protesters after the Friday prayers. Stones were also thrown during clashes in the Atala area in Prayagaraj.

In Saharanpur, people holding placards raised slogans against Nupur Sharma. Some of them also turned violent after the security personnel tried to stop them.

Several West Asian countries demanded a public apology, summoned Indian envoys and saw calls for a boycott of Indian products.

The government tried to defuse the row calling the comments "views of fringe elements".

Iran deletes statement on 'Prophet row' discussion with India

Iran seems to have softened its stance on the matter of the ruling BJP member's alleged provocative statements about the Prophet Muhammad.

According to the earlier Iranian statement, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval told the visiting Iranian Foreign Minister that anyone who made anti-Muslim statements "would be taught a lesson."

This statement, however, is no longer available on the Iranian Foreign Ministry's website.

https://www.newsbytesapp.com/news/india/prophet-row-iran-deletes-its-version-of-meeting/story

And as I predicted, things are starting to die out slowly.... Soon it will all be yesterday's news and the majority of the muslim world will be holding hands with PM Modi and ladi daddi da again...

Move on folks....

P.S. Things may still heat up

As protesters and police clashed in West Bengal for the second day over a suspended BJP leader's remarks on Prophet Muhammad, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said some political parties want to engineer riots and questioned why the people should suffer for the BJP's "sins".

"I have said this before. For two days now, normal life in Howrah has been disrupted and incidents of violence engineered. Some political parties are behind this and they want to trigger riots. But this will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken. The BJP has sinned, and the people will suffer?," she tweeted.

At Howrah near Kolkata, a protest against BJP leader Nupur Sharma's remarks on Prophet Muhammad turned violent yesterday. This morning, another clash with reported in the same area.

Police threw tear gas shells to disperse the protesters after stones were thrown at them, news agency ANI reported. The administration has imposed prohibitory orders in the area till Wednesday. Internet has been suspended across the district till Monday, officials said.

Earlier, on Thursday, protesters had put up road blockades at several places in Howrah.

The Chief Minister had then asked them to call off their agitation in the state and go to New Delhi to protest.

The remarks by Nupur Sharma and now expelled BJP leader Naveen Kumar Jindal has tarnished the image of India across the world and they should be arrested, Ms Banerjee had told reporters.

Huge protests were reported from across nine states after the Friday prayers.

In Jharkhand's Ranchi, 2 people died of gunshot injuries killed and 12 others -- four of them policemen -- were injured as protesters clashed with police.

Clashes also broke out in several towns in Uttar Pradesh, with over 200 people arrested in this connection.

Prohibitory orders have now been clamped in several areas in the country to prevent any untoward incident.

Cricket joshila, what's going on in west Bengal? The unrest doesn't seem natural.

BJP votes increasing by the minute. The opposition in India is hopeless.

I agree with this...India's opposition scored another self goal here. Nupur Sharma made a mistake, BJP fired him and that should have been end of the story. But Indian liberals/opposition tried to milk this situation with the hope of getting votes and took it to a point of no return.

Few Examples:

1) Nasiruddin Shah is giving lecture on TV about rising hate. I swear this man stays in hibernation but somehow creeps out whenever there is any communal issue. He was feeling insecure and was planning to leave India since 2016 but dont think he even stepped out of Mumbai.

2) Swara Bhaskar is thanking Arab countries for preaching India secularism. I mean arab countries and secularism, let than sink in. Only in NDTV...lol.

3) Uddhav Thackrey criticizing BJP and calling the country is for every minority. I mean in theory he is correct but is it not bit odd coming from a Thackrey when their entire existence was due to hindu first ideology and that is how Shiv Sena was formed. Infact, late Balasaheb even refused to call India as India...he always used to call it as Hindustan or Bharat. Now his son is preaching BJP due to some votes.

4) Ongoing street protests and violence. Look at the situatuon in Kanpur. Was all this really required when the person responsible was already terminated.

Basically they want another civil war in India just like the one they planned in Feb 2020 in Delhi when Trump visited.

All of this is ONLY and ONLY increasing BJPs votes. Not sure why they keep forgetting India has 80% hindus and majority supports BJP.

Pakistan urges UN not to be silent

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has urged the UN General Assembly not to be silent on the offensive remarks made by BJP officials in India last week, warning that silence on such issues could be mistaken for complicity.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari called UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid on Friday and apprised him of the derogatory remarks made by two senior officials of India’s ruling party BJP against the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him).

Noting that such willful and deliberate provocation had deeply hurt the sentiments of billions of Muslims around the world, the foreign minister urged the UNGA president to “take cognizance of this abhorrent development amidst growing hate speech and rising Islamophobia in India,” said a statement issued in New York.

Referring to the muted response of the Indian leadership on the incident, he reminded the UNGA president that “silence could be taken as complicity, and could lead to further incitement to violence, communal discord and hate incidents”. The statement said the UNGA president underscored the impo*r*tant role of the General Assem*bly and the need for the membership to work together on these issues.

The situation for Muslims is becoming more and more dire in India.

It won;t be surprising if some mass killings take place to fulfil the blood lust of the right wing hindus.

Prophet Row: Kashmir YouTuber Arrested Over Video On BJP's Nupur Sharma

Faisal Wani also said that he did not intend to hurt the sentiments of people from other religions.

New Delhi: A YouTuber from Kashmir has been arrested for posting a video that showed him beheading an effigy of the suspended BJP spokesperson. Police said that the video had caused fear and alarm among the public.
"Kashmir-based YouTuber Faisal Wani has been arrested. he had uploaded an incriminating video on YouTube which is against public tranquillity and has caused fear and alarm to the public in general," Jammu and Kashmir police said in a statement.

Earlier today, Faisal Wani deleted the video and posted an apology on his YouTube channel.

"Yesterday, I made a VFX video about Nupur Sharma which went viral all over India. And an innocent person such as me got implicated in the controversy," Faisal Wani said in a fresh video today.

He also said that he did not intend to hurt the sentiments of people from other religions. Mr Wani said that he had deleted his video which had gone viral.

In his apology, Mr Wani said, "I hope you will make this video viral too like my other video. This is how everyone will know that I am apologetic about my actions."

Earlier this month, BJP suspended Nupur Sharma and expelled Delhi BJP media unit Naveen Jindal over their controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad.

Two people were killed and dozens arrested after demonstrations across the country and clashes in some cities, including in Howrah near Kolkata, over the remarks by Sharma and Jindal.

The comments made over two weeks ago have led to anger in India and abroad, with several West Asian countries demanding a public apology, summoning Indian envoys and seeing calls for a boycott of Indian products.

India has called them "views of fringe elements" but that has not calmed the anger among Muslim groups in India, who have been demanding the politicians be arrested.

Cricket joshila, what's going on in west Bengal? The unrest doesn't seem natural.

Full violence in Howrah area. Policemen beaten down, houses burned down, stone pelting, hand bombs. Now section 144 is implemented on certain part of the state.

Protests erupts in Ranchi and Kanpur as well where many people got killed on the riots.

Not a single liberal will speak up now. All these blood is on their hand.

Now if govt takes actions against these hooligans (which they would), same protestors would play victim card and call it commumal.

Yes, there’s always going to be rowdy elements amongst thousands of people but to start gunning them down in cold blood?

Utterly shameful.

Yes, there’s always going to be rowdy elements amongst thousands of people but to start gunning them down in cold blood?

Utterly shameful.

A day after violence over recent remarks by now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on Prophet Muhammad, police in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur shared videos of municipal teams out with bulldozers under a heavy police presence, demolishing parts of homes of two of the accused arrested for disturbing the peace and social harmony. A total of 64 people have been arrested in Saharanpur, the district's police chief said in a statement

Visuals shared by the police showed cops and municipal teams at the residences of accused Muzammil and Abdul Waqir, with bulldozers razing gates and outer walls of their houses which they claim were illegal constructions.

In Kanpur, where violent clashes and stone-pelting took place on June 3 over the same issue, the police today demolished properties belonging to a man they called a 'land mafia linked to local leader Zafar Hayat Hashmi who is the main accused in the violence'.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and order) Anand Prakash Tiwari said that the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) has demolished a newly-constructed building owned by one Mohammad Ishtiyaq, who is said to be a close relative of prime accused Zafar Hayat Hashmi.

The building was in the Swaroopnagar locality of Kanpur, 3 km away from where the violence happened.

"There are reasons to believe that the investment has been made by the prime accused of the violence case," Mr Tiwari said, and claimed that the demolition was carried out in accordance with "norms and regulations." A local court had on Friday approved 72 hours' police remand of Mr Hashmi along with Jawed Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Rahil, and Sufiyan. "The accused were taken into police custody following the court's order on Saturday morning and will remain in custody till Tuesday morning," said Mr Tiwari.

Over 230 people have been arrested in the state so far for violent clashes over objectionable and communal comments against Prophet Muhammad by two BJP leaders. 11 cases have been filed in seven districts; all cases have been filed for serious offences.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's office has ordered the identification and immediate arrest of conspirators and accused. "Closely investigate the CCTV footage. Proceedings against such people should be initiated under sections of the National Security Act and Gangster Act as per law," it tweeted.

Speaking to NDTV, UP Police's additional director general (law and order) Prashant Kumar said the situation is under control in the state now and the police are taking strict action against those responsible for the violence.

The police will take strict action against all the people or groups who have "dared to disturb peace and harmony", including charging them under the Gangster Act, seizing their properties, and ensuring they pay for damages caused to private and public property so that such incidents are not repeated, Mr Kumar has said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's office said that officials have been given liberty and clear instructions to take stringent action against "anti-social elements".

Cricket joshila, what's going on in west Bengal? The unrest doesn't seem natural.

Politician keeping her vote bank happy. When you have settled 100s of 1000s of Bangladeshi and Rohingyas and nurtured just one community as a vote Bank, they feel they are above and beyond the laws. Ofcourse ******* and funds have come to incite this.

Bengalis need to realise that we are sitting on another Direct Action Day kind of situation if we don't do something.

They are involved in arson, looting, violence, stone pelting, obstructing roads, attacking people. They need to be tackled with a heavy hand, else the other side will take matters in their hands and retaliate in self defense.

Imo anyone who votes for extremists such as RSS/BJP are extremists, seems to a huge problem in India.

It seems Indian Muslims are finally waking up.

Lets be honest, even you know what is shameful i.e taking law into their hand, throwing stones and bombs, burning houses etc. Nupur Sharma's comments were distasteful and she has been terminated from the party. The issue should have been stopped then and there. But they choose to cause riots and hooliganism in the name of protests. Ofcourse police and govt will take action bcoz India works on law of the land.

The protestors are playing into the hands of the right wingers.

They should use political pressure and not mob pressure.

Sadly after multiple years of oppression and subjugation this is the only route they have available to them.

Lol. Only Qatar summoned the Indian ambassador. Rest just issued statements.

Pakistan claims to an Islamic country, being run by islamic laws.

It seems most of them started running and hiding the moment police took action. They only seem to emboldened when authorities don't take action and give them a free hand.

Hope Indian Muslims stay safe inshAllah.

Looks like perilous days are coming.
