there is another famous line... tune mera khada kar diya hai..gusse se ek ek baal khada kar diya hai.. guess which movie??
 
I watch 3 or 4 movies in an year....though in recent past i have watched quite a few from 90s...I first confirm it from a dozen people and reading reviews that how good a movie is....

I do not know why they can not make more than couple of good movies in an year...I pity on some of my friends who watch the whole movie and then say to me"Bakwaas,fazool" .."Aesa hi time zaya mat krna"...

on top of my head ..the recent ones

1. english vinglish (sridevi)-- must watch...

2. Oh my god (paresh rawal) -- it is family movie but the concept is about god and its perception today

3. Barfi

4. Ferrari ki Sawaari

5. Makki ( Dubbed from Telugu -- it is about a person who re borns as a housefly and takes revenge ...collected more than 100 crores )

and if you are looking from the recent past..

Do Doni char(Rishi kapoor), Rocket Singh, Wake up Sid are a good choice!!! will add a few later..on mobile now!!

I think this year we had a bunch of very good movies...actually one of the best years!!!
1. Kahaani
2.Paan singh tomar
3. Vicky Donor
4. Gangs of Wasseypur I
5. Gangs of Wasseypur II
6. English Vinglish
7. Oh My god
8. Barfi
9. and to some Extent Shanghai..
10.Ferrari ki Sawaari
haave heard some good things about Chittagong..


and I think Aamir Khan's Talash, Anurag's luv shuv tey Chicken Khurana will be good ones too..

To top that for masala bollywood...decent rom coms like Cocktail,Ek main aur ek tu, tere naal love ho gaya...a mix of realism with Ishaqzaade...with Jab tak hain jaan yet to come...

pakka masala potboilers which grossed more than 100 crores..like Rowdy rathore, Agneepath,housefull 2 ek tha tiger,bol bacchan,agent vinod..yet to come Khiladi786...

been a very good year actually.

right, It is releasing with Jab tak Hain Jaan...I can't post the link now but Salman Khan's Song promo for the movie released today.....what a suprise :P..Salman doing whatever it takes to help Ajay win the battle with SRK..he is even taking time and promoting the movie !!!!

I haven't seen the others navroks recommended but I second these three. When I saw NH's question, instantly Do Dooni Char and Wake Up Sid came to mind.

Do Dooni Char is a great family film. I remember watching it with my family and it has a real feel good factor to it highly recommended.

I watched Rocket Singh again the other night. It's a really underrated movie. Granted it is not path breaking but at least it is a sensible film and better than all the masala rubbish.

Had a question for some of you guys, is Gangs of Wasseypur worth watching? Two things are putting me off:
1. There are two parts to it
2. The trailer didn't excite me + it's tough to understand some of the lingo

Definitely a good watch....if you watch da movie you will see why two parts was necessary. Both parts DVD is out so...subs are available. I do not understand all da lingo either ..,but theatres here in USA had subs...Plus da movie has a great original soundtrack
 
Bollywood should really stop promoting stupid masala movies in the west and give more exposure to movies like Kahani

I am a bit suprised, Masand Gave Student of the year a 3/5 !!!! All reviews suggest...if You like Gossip girl Meets Glee Meets KJo's Candy floss ...Movie is for you...and you will love it. IF you are allergic to Candy Floss cinema...You might die in the theatre :D ...I guess it will do well at the BO...and all reviews have praised Sidharth Malhotra more than other two.....
 
went in expecting it to be awful but SOTY was quite decent.
 
From twitter I can figure that he passed away today. Had contracted Dengue. The disease is not necessarily life-threatening, but I guess old age may have given rise to further complications.
 
don't tell me.....just woke up, spent last night listening " challa".....sad. master of romance. rip.
 
Student of The Year Review...

First of all This movie was an obvious launch pad for Sidharth Malhotra,Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt....and What a grand launch pad....best since Kaho na Pyar Hai (hrithik) and Company (Vivek). Everything in the movie was secondary to obv launching of the stars(rather Star Kids)..!!

Okay, It is very hard to believe Karan Johar lauched somebody (sidharth)with no background...especially over shadowing other star kids Varun and Alia!!!! I personally think he is def related to somebody.....he had intro song....a build up...and was almost the main hero of the film!!!

And as far as the Movie goes.....It is a candy floss movie set in a magnificent unreal college....so it is not for somebody who is looking for real cinema !!!

Having said that I think Karan Johar does connect with the audience in more than a few scenes...I loved the 10 min silent episode pre intermission....thought the sports part was shot well.....Rishi Kapoor was a delight.... I liked Gulabhi Anke introduction of Alia....songs were picturized well.....

Apart from the leads....It was also a launch pad atleast into mainstream movies for Mansi Rach...I liked her in "Mujhse Fraandship Karoge" itself....glad she got a good role.

It was also a relaunch of Sana Saeed(girl from Kuch Kuch Hota Hain)....Can't judge anything as she played a typical dumb headed blonde kind of a role..not bad ...had ease!!!

Boman Irani's son was great too !!!

This movie will help Both Varun and Sidharth a lot....But Alia is very young..only 19 years old...She will have to settle doing these teen movies for atleast next 4 to 5 years!!!

And Many Many Creepy closeups of the Both lead actor's body was absolutely unneccassary.

Student of the year competition was stupid..but entertaining none the less.....

Anyway...to sum it up....If you pick and choose movies.....do not watch bollywood movies...or do not like candy floss movies...then this movie is definately not for you.

For people who watch movies regularly...do not mind Bollywood masala.....Definately not a bad movie for a evening.....

Rating: 6/10 !!!

SRK's new movie is gonna be even bigger because of Yash raj dying.Its was his last movie nd he was gonna retire after this one.SO son or sardar ain't got nothing on Jab tak hai jaan .If akshay is smart enough he'll change the release date of his movie.
 
^^^ Ajay not akshay. SOS always had nothing on Jab tak hain Jaan....I mean Ajay,Sanjay,Sonakshi vs SRK,Yash chopra,Rahman,Katrina,Anushka...Gulzaar!!! Ajay after a couple of 100 crore films probably thinks he has enough fan loyalty to get a decent opening along side srk- yash combo...but he does not...all his hits are genre specific hits...Now that Chopra has passed away ....people/media...everybody's attention will be on JTHJ !!! Do not see any reason why Ajay is doing this...especially since it his production too...Ego I guess at this point...moving the date is far fetched !!!!

Yeah I meant ajay.HE id a really really good actor but SRK is SRK !
 
^^^True,I consider him a better actor than SRK actually...I wish he goes back to do movies like company, apaharan....gangajal...omkara..bhagath singh...where he could use his acting skills rather than masala stuff he is doing!!!...and has great BO command too..but SRK is on an another level in terms of BO !!!
 
Team of Son or Sardaar are maintaining strong friendship with Salman Khan, hence aiming to eat into the collections of JTHJ :D

But in the end I predict they will harm themselves, especially after the death of Yash Chopra, everyone will choose JTHJ over SOS, easily.

Urmila Matondakar, Still looks Ravishing at 39 yrs...Would like to see her make a comeback .....Been a while since we have seen a Crazy character played by an actress(Bhooth, Kaun, Ek Hasina thi) Very Under rated actress...

She is a good actress mate !!! And it is only because she did not play mainstream roles that much... RGV Kept her busy from Rangeela (1995) to Ek Hasina thi(2004)....which is why she rarely did movies outside RGV factory....people tend to not rate her...I actually rate her as one of finest in the 90's...beside Sridevi and Tabu !!

dont compare her with tabu and sridevi...urmila looks good only in psycho roles..when she has to look scared and retarded..and it was because of ram gopal verma..who can even make a housemaid look glamourous in his movies.. otherwise urmila is no one!
 
^^^ Time to Revisit Rangeela (Tanha Tanha, Rangeela )...Actually do not even know an actress who just took the nation by storm the way she did in Rangeela in 1995 with her looks/glamour !!

Why do you want to take out Ramu's Work out of her Career...Especially decade and half of her career was under Ramu...and it is not like she did not play different roles..

Whether it was a glamorous role in Rangeela or a simple middle class women in Satya or a Psychopath in Kaun or her character in Bhooth.....or her character in RGV's production ek Hasini Thi (Sriram Raghavan's Movie)......her two telugu movies with Varma..she was decent too

Agreed she did not do much work outside Ramu...but still she was decent in Dewaangee, Indian,banaras....

Her career outside ramu ..may not be much..but removing it won't make sense either..she did some diverse range of movies with him
 
if she was so good why didnt she give the same performance in non ramu movies.. she is in the level of raveena tandons..not tabus and sridevis please! but if you were a growing teenager during rangila, then i understand your soft corner for her!!
 
^^^ Oh, I did not Rate her As good as Tabu or Sridevi....But next best after them in terms of acting...especially in mainstream movies...because rest of actress in 90's..be it Madhuri...or Karishma..or Raveena(anyother achievements other than tip tip barsa paani :D ).....did not play varied roles like urmila did !!!

And about that Question....Why did Other Ramu's heroines..AntharaMali and Nisha Kothari suck inspite of Ramu??? Agreed she did not do much work outside ramu..but did she great work under him....Ramu might have helped her..but def did play those varied roles..and pulled dem off !!!

I was 8 when Rangeela came....but I watched the movie for the first time probably...in 1998/1999 as a 11/12 yr old ...had an impact :D

legendary comedian Jaspal Bhatti died in a road accident last night, RIP.
 
That's very sad :( Jaspal Bhatti is a legend.. made us all laugh..and his humour was for giggle..but he found humour in the daily struggles of common man and satired the society... there is no one like him... miss you Jaspal Bhatti saab.. RIP

^^^^ So far Everything that has come out of Khiladi is horrendous....I like Masala Cinema....but It should have some decent quality atleast....good songs atleast...like Say Dabangg !!!! But Khiladi....everything is so bad...I think the title track is little decent !!!! Btw....India still produces good movies.....more than a few this year !!!! I am sure Khiladi will collect 100 + crores though...

i am ok with the songs and movies..what i dont like is the choreography...what is this obsession with heaving chests in all songs...this was started by that saroj khan..who used it on madhuri and now it has become a signature bollywood move...gross!!!
 
Sooner Bollywood gets rid of Ganesh Acharya, Saroj Khan ..and to some Extent Farah Khan too....the better it is . New gen Choreographers Remo D souza, Bosco Ceaser,terence should take over...
And also People like Geeta Kapoor should stop idolizing their Gurus !! Vabhavi merchant to reinvent herself.....

And Prabhu Deva should do more songs.....Last time I was truely impressed by a choreography was back in 2004...Lakshya...Main Aisa Kyun ho by Prabhu Deva...that was work of a genious!!! He won national award too for it..

who was the choreographer for SOTY? in that disco deewane song..the dance moves were so childish..and everytime i see that alia bhatt girl i dont know why i hate that kid...not even hit puberty and there she is dancing with two grown ups..with lipstick and the snobbish looks that kareena excels at..
 
Remo D souza....But he is much better than that !!! He does great choreography with dancers in Dance India Dance.....in movies he has to stick with signature steps that catch people's attention !!! And also dance capacity of actors too !!
 
Btw...Shahid Kapoor to be second hero of RajKumar Hirani's "Peekay"... Main lead Being Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma!!

I wish Hirani works on Munna Bhai 3 soon....too long a wait....Sanju Baba is also getting old !!!!!
 
looks like earning 100 crores are too easy now a days . every other rubbish movie earning more than that. whats the reason? are ticket prices are high or wat? or its because of too much promotion been done ?
