Brilliant fifties by Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha take Pakistan to 313/5 on Day 1 of the 1st Test against South Africa

There isn't a single other batsman in this team who averages 50. Pakistan fans should be more grateful to have a batsman like Saud who has already played some fantastic knocks for Pakistan in test cricket.
Saud Shakeel is a promising Test batter, no doubt. But to claim he’s the only one worthy of gratitude because of a 50+ average ignores the broader picture.

King gone. When the top order performs, the middle doesnt, when the middle/lower perform, the top order doesn't. Just want to see a whole team effort for once.

This guy has clear issues against standard off spin

How does the journalists who have been strongly campaigning for him to return to the T20i side know he will tackle mystery spin or the ball turning away easily??

The problem with preparing these spin pitches is that this is ruining the batting averages of so many Pakistani batsmen.

Tbf to Babar the pitch is now spinning by miles however the ball he got out to isn't exactly wicket taking.

Rizzu just hit a 6 on the exact same pitched up delivery.

It's beginning to spin a lot. I think we're well past the best batting conditions in this game. SA have their work cut out

Their avg everywhere else would be similar or worse.

Aus and NZ pitches would reduce their avg to 20-30.

England pitches can improve their avg but they'd get mauled 24/7 by England who'd br tonking 800's left and right

South Africans have promised to brutally attack our spinners and unleash all sorts of sweeps, slog sweeps and reverse sweeps.

LOL at Babar... This guy has issues that are visible but no one is solving or trying to solve them
How are you supposed to solve an issue for someone else?

Babar has had a billion coaches, and I'm 100% sure they've told him about his issues vs spin and how to handle it.

A batting coach's job isnt to teach cricketers batting, this isn't school cricket, its international cricket.

They are at a stage where they've adopted their own style of batting. For example Steve Smith's style of batting cannot be coached bit advice can be given to him.

Similarly every single one of our batters have their own stances, Shots and style.

Same thing was said by england bazz ball and these south african are no where near that england team which pak beat sorry no chance vs noman and sajid south africa are done here

Babar has no game for anything other than white ball cricket on flat tracks.

His backfoot game is non-existent.
He does not sweep or reverse sweep anything.
He is unable to have footwork to negate the turn.
He does not hit over mid-wicket as a get out of jail shot.

It would be fine if he'd show any improvement or work on his skills but he's just there to collect a paycheck and live on his past laurels. It's an irony that this nation paid no real heed to genuine batting talents of Younus and Yousuf who were miles ahead of him but played in the wrong era.

But but sarr…

T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka sarr!!

Babar world class spin player sarr!!!

SA spinners have bowled better too as the day has progressed.

Pitch nowhere near as bad as the West Indies series but enough encouragement for Noman and Sajid.

Rizwan showing the value of the sweep shot, clearly disturbed harmer and forced him to over pitch bringing the drive into play

Its spinning yes but its a standard Asian spin pitch we commonly see in test cricket.

Rizwan is playing well and proving yhat it isnt that big a deal, hes hitting sixes, Fours etc etc.

Accountability needs to be taken. Saud, Babar, Abdullah got out on deliveries that were playable and mostly a result of poor technique. Same goes for Shan.

Imam played extremely well but got out due to being impatient wanting to get his 100 before tea.

So far none of the deliveries have been unplayable like we saw vs WI.

His work ethic is zero. All the past batting coaches have complained about him that he doesn't listen to suggestions and doesn't work on his game. It's been showing in the deterioration of his game in the past 2 years

He is still the most popular cricketer in Pak team, I just do not get how that's possible.

Playing domestic recently has helped Riz a bit, but King Babar too good for the QEA.
Agree with this. Rizwan, Shan and Imam have been the best batters and their county + domestic grind is clearly showing.

To top it off They've all improved on their bodies.

Shan now looks well built and no longer looks malnourished, Rizwan looks like hes back to his 2016 weight cause he had gotten fatter for a while, Imam has clearly lost a good 25 pounds as well.

The rest like Abdullah, Babar, Saud are still showcasing the same latheragix reactions with the same pot bellies

When you assess a pitch don't just look at the dismissals. There's so many things that contribute to a batsman playing a certain way that leads to a wicket.

Pitch is clearly turning and keeping up and down a bit.
It still is not too bad but likely to get progressively worse and South Africans really don't have the batsmen to negotiate Sajid and Nomi I think.
Kallis Amla ABD are all gone

I'm not claiming It wont get worse or that SA wont fold.

Infact I've claimed that Pak is winning the 1st test.

I'm simply stating a fact that at present the pitch isn't so bad that those batters couldn't have played such deliveries

Imam was impatient, Shan and saud were brain fades, Babar and Abdullah had their poor technique vs Spin(babar) and inswing pace(Abdullah) exposed for the millionth time.
