What's new

Congratulations Sachin Tendulkar on hundred 100s! [Finally!]

This thread gonna work one more time. I honestly can't see Sachin scoring a 100 here. He's got one of the poorer records among the Indian batsmen on Indian grounds where the pitches are flat.

Not some sort of backhanded compliment to him but just the facts. Can't prove it, but if someone who knows something about this can, please go ahead.

Even if it's to the contrary :)

....what?

Anyway, Sachin will SURELY score a 100 on this track :)

Almost there :kapil

They have mad a national highway so that he can finally get his ton.

Start the voodoo early here guys, we're going to need some real negative energy :kapil

Alternatively pray for the Indian openers to have an unbeaten 500 run stand :ibutt

Anyone taking bets on Tendy scoring his 100th 100 in this Test? Maybe? Maybe not!

Have you guys seen the Wankhede wicket? All of the WI top six scored half centuries on it on their way to 575 with the bunnies still at the crease!

R Ashwin, playing in only his third Test, said he was baffled by the nature of the pitch, having come with bigger expectations.

"This is my eighth game at Wankhede and this is the first time I am seeing a wicket like this. I am quite surprised. It is very much like the practice wicket to the left. I was praying it wouldn't be like that but … It is [usually] one of the most sporting wickets in India. So it is disappointing to see it behave like this."

"You can't expect the wicket to turn on the first day of a Test match. But you do expect some bounce," Ashwin said. "This game, I was definitely expecting some bounce. So I felt cheated in that regard."

That said, the biggest risk to Tendy missing out is the fact that Sehwag and Gambhir, Sehwag and Dravid might all make double tons in the first innings. He may not even get to bat. They should push him up to open the innings so he gets a chance to bat.

A bit stupid this. He's a good enough player to get that 100 100 on any other normal ground.

Its clear what BCCI have done! Its things like this that give indian cricket a bad name!

It's a bit of a conspiracy theory, but what would sound better for the Wankhede? Site of yet another 3-0 win over the WI or the stadium where India's greatest player scored his ton of tons? :13:

Gambhir and Sehwag trying to play T20 shots in first two overs.... may be they have instruction to play like this and get out.... so that you-know-who comes to bat. :)

Sehwag and Gambir will both score 300 not out and it will be a draw

Not sure if many people in India are watching this series, they will forget we played the mighty West Indies of 2011 in a few days anyway. Tendulkar's 100th 100 will be a historic moment in Cricket's history whenever it comes.

:)))

Not really - it is a meaningless record, made even more ridiculous by all the pathetic hype built around it by the marketing men and the idiotic sub-100 IQ 'fanboys'.

Yes, because of these retarded fanboys, of which India seems to have far more than its fair share, this record will get a lot of publicity. It will also be probably commemorated by BCCI etc, thereby making it important in Indian cricket history - all that is fair enough, after all marketing is important and products have to be sold to idiots too.

However, in cricket history in general, the record is meaningless since it combines different formats - no cricket record is kept that way and never has. No player is measured or appraised in this way.

Tendulkar reaching 15,000 Test runs, or 20,000 ODI runs, or 50 centuries in Tests, or 50 centuries in ODIs are ALL far more meaningful and significant milestones / records - because those milestones/records actually exist! :))

How is it a meaningless record?
When all the runs scored are contributed to team's tally only

^^ It is a meaningless record because you can't keep adding things together to arrive at some magic figure

Do you have difficulty reading or are just a bit slow? :)

I have already explained in the very post that you quoted why its meaningless. Please re-read, and if still unsure, you could perhaps request a grown-up to explain it to you? :)

I don't think you are to add ODI centuries and Test centuries. I actually heard about the 100th hundred in forums by Indian posters, none of my friends even know or care about it. You spoke my mind. +1

In all the record books bhai - have done so since records began, for each format.

Of course, for many a decade, Cricket's 'Bible' was Wisden's Almanac - but of late, its also Cricinfo and of course the ICC as well as the MCC who are the ultimate arbiters of the validity of any game and of any and all cricket record / statistic.

Hence, Tendulkar reaching 15,000 Test runs is a significant Test cricket milestone.

Tendulkar reaching 20,000 ODI runs is a significant ODI cricket milestone.

Ditto for him scoring 50 centuries in Tests, or 50 centuries in ODIs.

I guess it is meaningful for Tendy's sponsors though - a ton of tons!

In the statsguru of cricinfo, there are seperate sections for Tests, ODIs, T20Is and All Test/ODI/T20I. Maybe you think because cricinfo was founded by some Indians, they think like indian posters?

No, i couldn't believe what you said. Just wanted to confirm.

Never said anything about cricinfo or statsguru. Putting words into my post :inti All I've said is I just don't see the point in adding odi centuries and test centuries. Scoring 50 centuries is hard enough in one format. When people started talking about Sachin about to reach his 100th hundred I actaully thought he is about to score in one format. I am not discrediting him, just agreeing with Shehryark in his finely written post.

I replied to that.

I know adding records of different format is meaningless. But people still do.

We celebrated Murali's 1000th wicket as well

If you consider Cricinfo valid, then you should know that it does keep track of records across formats. In fact, you have just posted in a thread which discusses one such record: Overall Team Win/Loss Record in all 3 formats as of Nov 23, 2011.

Exactly, hundred 100s across three format is a meaningless record to say the least. If it was in one format then it would be an achievement definitely. It's like if a batsmen is not out in a test match and scored 91* and when he plays next game, which is a T20, and scores 9 runs, he will celebrate his hundred? How dumb is that?

Sachin comes to bat.

I got a feeling that Bishoo will get him today b4 he can score a century. :23:

We celebrated Murali's 1000th wicket as well
LOL. Who did? This is first I am hearing of it - he has 1,000 Test wickets?
I thought it was 800+.

If you meant combined in all formats - then who cares? Its not a number anyone was aware of or at least cared about.

Anyway - wattay maar maar ker jitni marzi le lo bhaai.... :warne

It doesn't keep record, it just gives a tab where you could see those records - I guess they have to cater for the under-10 years or under-100 IQ audience too :P

Indeed I did. :) And can I just say how wonderful it is that in you, we have another genius here who is unable or unwilling to read or at least to comprehend. :19: Don't they have comprehension classes in schools any more? Or I guess they cover it after primary school, fair enough. :26:

If you had that read that you yourself quote, and seen my reply there, you'd have noted my aversion to presenting this 'mixed-n-matched' and jumbled-up meaningless twaddle masquerading as stats.

But why is this tab any different from other tabs, such as "Tests", "ODIs", etc. , which you consider valid?

Looks like you were too quick to assume here. However, it is understandable that you did so; it is not something that is generally taught in schools ;-). You can see that I never actually claimed that you accepted the "stats" from the other thread. Rather, I was simply pointing out that you had just posted in a thread which clearly shows that Cricinfo maintains "All Test/ODI/T20I" records. Your earlier post had indicated to me that you were possibly unaware that Cricinfo maintains such records, and I was confused as to why, since you had just posted in a thread that used one. I hope you get it now :).

LOL. And the point of "pointing out" something that I know already, that you know already, and that anyone who can reads knows already? :20:

Anyway - you are of course very welcome to go worship your idiotic records if that makes you happy - even the demented need some succour, and if mixing and matching random things helps provide them that, good for them. I'm all for it, as long as the context remains marketing and not sporting. :19:

I addressed the reasoning behind it in the very next sentence (which you conveniently did not include in the quote).

Again you are too quick to assume about me (possibly due to the flag next to my name :23:). Never did I show any adoration for any particular record. I only questioned the reasoning behind your definition of 'record.' Hell, I never even disagreed with your statements. I just asked for an explanation, which seems to be enough to cause an overreaction from you!

To be honest, I want Sachin to get the 100.

Get it over with. Too much hype and attention given to it on Pakpassion.

Maybe after that, he'll fail in another 10 inning and finally retire.

I think 101st , 50th ODI and 111st are still to come :P

He's all set it do it today.

Congratulations all Sachin fans. So how does it feel?

I predict a 100 threads, by a 100 Indians, in a 100 days, on SRT's 100 100s.

Would almost be a shame if he made his 100th ton in a game that is quite as meaningless as this one.

Hopefully it will deflect some of the acclaim away from what is a completely irrelevant statistic.

Hope he scores here itself. Can't drag this to all important series against Australia.

On a rare occasion I agree with you.

The last series in which SRT dragged his quest for a 100th 100 was in the Summer against England, and we all know how that series ended.

Technically, every run SRT scores is a record..

Yes there should be a thread for every run.

Will he hurry up and score this arbitrary record so we can all move on?

Enough meaningless hype for meaningless record that probably means very little to the player himself.

Well said !! OP should read this..

Current partnership 57 runs, 19.1 overs, RR: 2.97 (Tendulkar 25, Laxman 32)

"2.5 an over for the last 10? More dots than a dalmatian!"

It is just another number.....! :))

Yeah the 1000th international wicket. We have been following all his achievements. Indian public appreciates these feats.

Great player, I'm doing extra namaz because I really want him to get this record. What a player/legend/best player of all time/best human being/generally amiable character.

the funny/sad/strange thing is that they want this 100th 100 more than Indian win! :))
