I get saying he needs an international trophy to be consider GOAT, but to say he's a coward or not clutch is some of the most nonsensical thing I've heard. The sad thing is he'd be the undisputed GOAT if the choker Higuain could finish.

LMAO, you mean that preseason trophy where Barcelona had a new manager and were still reeling after Neymar? :)))

Embarrassing.

Preseason trophy lol?Thats a huge trophy mate.If you have no clue over that just search over it barca came for the trophy with a strong squad they have had

Now you need neymar lol.....

You just keep rolling when you have nothing to say....yea embarrassing is what i have to say

It's essentially a preseason trophy which holds little importance.

The team was shaken with the loss of Neymar and still adjusting to Ernesto, they admitted it themselves.

It meant nothign right? That's why all that was left in Messi's wake was Madrid players on the floor and Madrid fans shaken.

How about this?

#NotClutch #Coward

The rubbish madrid/Ronaldo fans spout to try get their boy on the same level as GOAT :)))

Ronaldo isn't in Messi's league, don't bother :))

I'm not going to watch that donkey, he's Shehzad level technique and talent wise.

Yet they came with a great squad played with so much passion until that roaldo's goal came

Nope lol, there's a reason why I laugh whenever I see you avatar. It shows Ronaldo's inferiority complex and his fan boys markdom to celebrate the chinese knock off which resulted in him getting sent off a minute later :)))

Messi's was iconic, this was a great laugh on someone who's still obsessed and in the shadow of a far superior player.

Keep thinking it's anywhere close to El Clasico in April with the season on the line though.

Madrid were left devastated after that goal.

Yea you keep thinking the other way lol

Barca won the mighty 3 points in the so called match and lose the league to madrid

Meanwhile madrd beat barca to won a title with ronaldo scoring the winner

But but the first match is more crucial and messi was more decisive ROFL :5

LMAO 40 second intro followed by a Penalty goal.

Can't get more Ronaldo than that, most of his rubbish videos on YT are 4 minutes of step overs that deceive no one and tap ins followed by 20 second celebrations :)))

Pick out better videos next time :)))

No need, I bet most of those are tap ins, penalties or deflections.

Yea open it and see...your pique are rolling on ground most times by ronaldo

And i know messi's each and every goals against madrid were 30 yard screamers lol

Penalties, headers and tap ins, those are cheap goals IMO.

I prefer skill, so no surprising why I don't rate such a limited player like Ronaldo who is mechanical and lacks technique. He's more of an athlete than a footballer, he comes off like a donkey at times with the ball at his feet.

Speaking of penalties what happened with Ronaldo's penalty against Spain in Euro 2012?

Messi totally outplayed Ronaldo in every department today.

Ronaldo relies too much on his team mates to create chances for him for the last 3-4 years. Messi was always on a different level to me, although i think Ronaldo is a legend too.

Messi.

I’m a Real Madrid fan but Messi is the superior footballer.Ronaldo is undoubtedly a legend, one of the greatest of the game and the second best of this era.He also deserved all of his Ballon D’Ors.

Are you going to use that cheap imitation in your avatar too? :))) Those avatars are even more hilarious. Messi ends the year showing the world who the GOAT is.

He was involved in the goal. They tried to man mark him out of the game, but it set up the first goal. Messi could of made a run, but he held back and let Rakitić make his run and create something while he kept Kovacic away.

Man divorces wife of 14 years because she thinks Ronaldo is better than Messi

The not-so-beautiful game.

A Russian man has filed for divorce after fighting with his wife over whether Lionel Messi is better than Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to Moscow newspaper Argumenty i Fakty, the football-mad couple — named only as Arsen and Lyudmila — fell out when Arsen celebrated Argentina’s victory over Nigeria on June 26.

Arsen packed up his things and left his wife of 14 years after she continued to insist that Portugal star Ronaldo was a superior talent to Messi.

He said: "She told me that from the beginning of this World Cup, Messi didn't know how to play.

"She mocked Messi and said he couldn’t even score a penalty against Iceland.

“I could not contain myself and told her what I thought about the vain Ronaldo, the Portuguese national team and all the clubs she likes".

Arsen added: “Then I took my belongings and left her forever.”

Ironically, Arsen and Lyudmila met and fell in love at a bar during the 2002 World Cup.

After leaving his wife, Arsen headed straight to the Chelyabinsk Courthouse in the Ural mountains to request a divorce.

Talk about irreconcilable differences!

Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has challenged Lionel Messi to leave Barcelona and sign for a club in Italy.

Portugal international Ronaldo joined Serie A champions Juventus from Real Madrid in a £99.2m deal in the summer.

Ronaldo and Argentina forward Messi, 31, have long been regarded as the world's best players, each winning five Ballon d'Or awards before Real Madrid's Luka Modric claimed this year's prize.

"I'd like him to come to Italy one day," said Ronaldo, 33.

"I hope he accepts the challenge like me, but if he's happy there then I respect that."

Ronaldo spent nine seasons at Real Madrid after arriving from Manchester United in 2009, with Messi having spent his whole career at La Liga rivals Barcelona.

Asked if he missed Messi during an interview with Italian press, Ronaldo added: "No, maybe it's him who misses me.

"I've played in England, Spain, Italy, Portugal and for my national team, while he's still in Spain.

"Maybe he needs me more. For me, life is a challenge, I like it and I like to make people happy.

"He's a fantastic player and a good guy, but I don't miss anything here. This is my new life and I'm happy.

"I left my comfort zone and took on this challenge here in Turin. Everything has gone well, I've proven I'm still an incredible player."

This guy is like the Trump of football, after Zlatan of course. Probably making noise to distract from the other thing looming over his head.

Left his comfort zone to a team that won 7 scudetto championships in a row.

He has left Spain, but the inferiority complex stays.

To be honest, you cannot really blame him. In spite of all of his achievements, he is not even considered as the best player of his generation by the majority.

In some ways, he is arguably the unluckiest player in history. In any other era, he would have been the king.

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi says he "never imagined having so much success" after being presented with a record fifth European Golden Shoe award.

The Argentine scored 34 goals in 36 La Liga appearances in 2017-18, making him the highest goalscorer in Europe ahead of Liverpool's Mohamed Salah (32).

Messi's latest Golden Shoe award moves him one ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won four in total.

"The truth is I had no idea this would happen when I started," said Messi.

"I dreamt of playing professional football and enjoying success, I love the game, but I never imagined I would have so much."

Tottenham's Harry Kane finished third in the rankings with 30 Premier League goals, while former Real Madrid forward Ronaldo - now at Juventus - ended the season with 26 goals in 27 league matches.

Messi currently leads Europe's goalscoring charts once again, with 14 goals so far this term, as he targets a sixth Golden Shoe award.

So the year coming to an end - where are we with this debate?

Lionel Messi scored his 400th La Liga goal as Barcelona beat Eibar at the Nou Camp to regain their five-point lead at the top of the table.

Messi, the all-time leading scorer in the Spanish top flight, finished into the bottom corner for Barca's second.

The landmark goal comes in the Argentine's 435th league game.

Luis Suarez earlier put Barca in front by finishing a fine team move before tucking in his side's third in the second half.

Messi, who becomes the first player to score 400 goals in just one of Europe's top five leagues, could have scored a second but he shot straight at Eibar goalkeeper Asier Riesgo from the edge of the box.

The victory takes Barcelona five points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid.

Later on Sunday, Real Madrid climbed to fourth by beating Real Betis thanks to a late winner but are 10 points behind Barca.

Messi reaches remarkable total
Messi was quiet for much of the game with his goal coming from his first shot.

The 31-year-old is the second player to score 400 goals across Europe's top five leagues, following Cristiano Ronaldo whose 409 league goals in 507 games have been scored in England, Spain and Italy.

The goal against Eibar means Messi has reached 400 goals 63 games quicker than Ronaldo reached the same milestone.

It also extends his lead as La Liga's all-time leading record scorer with Juventus' Ronaldo second having scored 311 goals in 292 games at Real Madrid and Telmo Zarra, who scored 251 La Liga goals third.

More Messi stats
Messi has scored more league goals than 29 La Liga teams have scored in their history
Messi has scored against 37 different teams in La Liga, the most by a player in the competition history
Sevilla is the club Messi has scored against the most with 25 goals in 24 games against them

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/46858269

So the year coming to an end - where are we with this debate?

Goal scoring exploits, pretty much neck and neck. Messi is a more natural finisher where as Ronaldo is more determined in front of goal. Anything else it's not even a comparison and the vast majority of players who have played against both say the same.

Lionel Messi reached yet another new milestone by moving into second place on Barça’s all-time scoring list in the Copa del Rey after scoring a goal in Thursday’s match against Levante. Messi now has 49 Copa del Rey goals, equaling/surpassing László Kubala. Barça’s all-time leader in Copa del Rey goals is Josep Samitier, who scored 64 for Barça between 1919 and 1932. Last Sunday, Messi reached the 400-goal plateau in La Liga.

Notably, six of Messi’s Copa del Rey goals have come in finals played in 2009, 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2018. Barça won the title each time. In total, Messi has hoisted six Copa del Rey championships with Barça, in 2008/09, 2011/12, 2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17, and 2017/18.

Premier league-Ronaldo

La Liga- Messi and Ronaldo (Ronaldo probably more dominant in his last few seasons there)

Serie A- Ronaldo hands down!

Champion's league medals with two different clubs (Ronaldo)
Major International trophy (Ronaldo European cup) Messi has a wc Final's medalist.

Ronaldo has dominated football all across the world. He will win this rivalry now

I dont know who has better skills. Probably Messi

But Ronaldo is definitely more clutch and the guy I want to win a game

He's arguably the greatest footballer to ever play the game but fans shouldn't call Lionel Messi "God", according to the Pope.

The Pontiff says using the term to describe the Barcelona star is theoretically "sacrilege" and has warned supporters against doing it.

Asked about the subject on Spanish television channel La Sexta, Pope Francis said: "In theory, it is sacrilege. It shouldn't be said. I do not believe it."

When presenter Jordi Evole suggested he did believe Messi was God, Pope Francis replied with a chuckle: "I don't.

"People could call him God, just as they might say 'I adore you', but only God can be worshipped.

"[Saying] 'He's a god with the ball on the pitch' is a popular way to express yourself.

"He's great to watch - but he's not God."

Messi would never let Ajax win at Camp Nou. The awkward moment when Ronaldo fans were proudly stating that Ajax eliminated Madrid because Ronaldo was not there.

Ronaldo is phenomenal, but the difference between him and Messi is that the latter does not rely on service.

Ronaldo no longer (and never had it to the same extent as Messi) has the ability to make things happen out of nothing.

Stop his teammates from getting crosses in the box and you can take Ronaldo out of the game, but Messi simply cannot be stopped.

That is the difference between an elite poacher (Ronaldo) and an elite poacher and playmaker rolled into one (Messi).

Ballon d’Or #6 coming up for the greatest of all time. The game has never and will never see a more complete footballer than Messi.

Messi needs to do it to Liverpool or city.
United are second rate at the moment and Felipe anderson was on fire at the weekend too against them.
Messi has not had a big performance against a top team in the latter stages of the champions League for a while. He needs to take his team through the tie against Liverpool

I'm not gonna jump on the hype train and say it was an unbelievable Messi performance. He wasn't at his best and was controlled for long periods.
But that free kick was absolutely bloody amazing and out of this world!! I'm thankful to the lord almighty for that

'Overrated': Messi mocked as ineffective Argentine struggles in UCL collapse at Anfield

Lionel Messi's indefinite status as the world's best player was mocked online as the five-time Ballon d'Or winner failed to ignite in Tuesday's Champions League semi-final defeat against Liverpool.

It is sometimes said that a player is only as good as his last game and that very much seems to be the case with Messi in the social media aftermath of his side's crushing 4-0 defeat to Jurgen Klopp's team.

For the second year in succession Messi and Barcelona let a healthy first leg advantage slip to be unceremoniously dumped from a competition they had been the odds-on favorites to win. And despite a bagful of goals this year, including 12 in 9 in the Champions League, the blame appears to have fallen at the feet of the man in the number ten shirt.

For the first time since 2013 the Champions League Final will be played without Messi or his chief rival, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese, who had his own European heartbreak in the colors of Juventus this season, has now won the competition three times since Messi last lifted the trophy.

For all of his undoubted brilliance, Messi has perhaps not quite been as effective since the days of Xavi and Iniesta supplying him, or when he was flanked by Neymar and a slightly more spritely Luis Suarez.

Liverpool showed on Tuesday that if Messi can be contained, so too are his teammates and this is a point which has resonated around social media, in varying degrees, since the final whistle on a famous night on Merseyside.

The front line alongside Messi is mediocre. Suarez is past it on the big stage and Coutinho has been poor since joining Barca.

He choked again. Messi is a nobody when the going gets tough. If Ronaldo was in the situation he would hold his head high and do something whereas Messi just struts around with his head down. Ronaldo all the way

Why didn't Ronaldo do anything against Ajax? He didn't even have the burden of having to create chances for the attack, yet he still couldn't come through when Juve needed him. :yk2

On pure footballing skill Messi is better, but Ronaldo has achieved more in his career.

He choked again. Messi is a nobody when the going gets tough. If Ronaldo was in the situation he would hold his head high and do something whereas Messi just struts around with his head down. Ronaldo all the way

Lol, Messi can’t do everything alone all the time, he destroyed Liverpool single-footly last week so now it was upto his team to show up and support him, but they just didn’t know what hit them at Anfield. Liverpool completely outclassed them. No one could have stopped Liverpool yesterday.

Messi😝

There is no need to rile up his worshipers today😜

Brilliant, brilliant ball player with every tricks in the game and yet one of the best scorers in history. His 1st touch probably can be matched only by one man born in his country 3 decades back.

CR is a great all round soccer player and a great leader, probably the greatest scorer of the game, a great showman and an achiever; but skill & vision wise Messi is better individual (& quite a humble human being - sticking to one lady for 17 years for a man of his status!!!!!!!).

I think, I can find resemblance of CR with Johan Cruyff, but impossible to resemble Messi with one player - may be a mixture of Maradona, Fat Ronaldo and Platini.....

Winning the CL trophy 3 times consecutively, Ronaldo was bound to fail the 4th time, statistically speaking.

Yes, the luck had to run out eventually, Off-side goals and poor refereeing played a huge role in Madrid’s hat-trick.

Ramos scored an off-side goal against Atletico in the 2016 final.

In 2017, the quarterfinal against Bayern was a complete farce. Ronaldo scored two off-side goals and Vidal was wrongly sent-off.

The quarterfinal against Juventus last year was also marred by dubious referring decisions in Madrid’s favor, but Bayern and Athletics were robbed.

If only the VAR was introduced earlier.

If only the VAR was introduced earlier.

If only, and almost ALL, if not most, Football records would be different right now, including Messi's achievements.

Though I guess you feel if Ronaldo is a success on the pitch it is down to dubious decisions but with Messi, the referees were spot on.

Lionel Messi: Argentina forward banned from international football for three months

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has been banned from international football for three months after claiming the Copa America was "corrupt" .

Barcelona forward Messi, 32, was sent off in Argentina's 2-1 third-place play-off win over Chile and later said the "cup was fixed for Brazil".

He has also been fined $50,000 (£41,121) by Conmebol, the South American Football Confederation.

Messi has seven days to appeal Conmebol's decision to suspend him.

The ban means Messi will miss Argentina's upcoming friendlies against Chile, Mexico and Germany in September and October.

Argentina's qualifying campaign for the 2022 World Cup begins in March 2020.

Following Argentina's 2-0 semi-final defeat by hosts Brazil, the Argentine Football Association complained about "serious and gross refereeing errors".

In response, Conmebol said accusations questioning the integrity of the Copa America were "unfounded" and "represent a lack of respect".

Messi was shown a red card in the 37th minute against Chile, following a clash with Gary Medel, who was also dismissed.

"We don't have to be part of this corruption," Messi said. "They have showed us a lack of respect throughout this tournament.

"Sadly, the corruption, the referees, they don't allow people to enjoy football, they ruined it a bit."

Messi is better than Ronaldo. Definitely more skilled.

Ronaldo only has one advantage and that is agility.

Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that both he and Lionel Messi have benefitted from their long-running rivalry.

Ronaldo and Messi have been at the top of the sport for more than a decade, winning 10 straight Ballons d'Or between them before their run ended with Luka Modric picking up the top individual prize in 2018.

The pair were also La Liga's headliners for nearly a decade, with Ronaldo starring for Real Madrid between 2009 and 2018 before he made his move to Juventus.

That span saw Barcelona claim six league crowns to Madrid's two, while Ronaldo and company held the edge in Europe with four Champions League crowns to the two won by Messi's side, though Barca had claimed a win in the final against Ronaldo's Manchester United prior to the Portuguese star making the jump to Spain.

It all made for a heated rivalry, but Ronaldo says there is plenty of admiration between the two and believes that both players understand that they have helped each other reach record-breaking heights.

"I really admire the career he has had so far and, for his part, he has already said that he had trouble when I left the Spanish league because it is a rivalry that he appreciates," the Juve forward told Portuguese channel TVI.

"It is a good rivalry that exists in football, but this is no exception. Michael Jordan had rivals in basketball, Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost were great rivals in Formula 1, the only common point between all the big rivalries in the sport is that they are healthy.

"Messi makes me a better player and vice versa"

And, while the rivalry between the two superstars has often been viewed as a testy one, Ronaldo classified it as "excellent" and says he would have no issue sitting down to dinner with Messi at some point in the future.

"I have an excellent professional relationship with Messi because we have been sharing the same moments for 15 years," he said.

"I have never been to dinner with him but why not in the future? I would have no problem with doing that."
