SA missing ABD and a massively declining Hashim Amla makes their batting very fragile. With Phil, Ngidi missing too and Steyn on his last legs their bowling attack is heavily dependent on Rabada and is several notches below its true potential.

Australia just doesn’t have even a single good batsman imo. Khwaja played superbly against Pakistan but has been out of form this series. Their bowling attack is top class though. No weaknesses, especially with Lyon there.

Which team would you fancy your chances more against at their respective homes?

SA

Winning in Aus is still harder for visiting teams. Many teams win one game in SA. Bowlers often become useless in Aus roads and Aus bowlers can still take 20 wickets.

That’s a good point. If I remember correctly India drew a series against a full strength SA in 2010

Khawaja and Lyon are the only two players who will make a current SA/AUS combined XI. South Africa is a far stronger unit and and they showed as such by winning against Australia home and away.

On the contrary, I feel only the SA openers and Rabada will make the combines team. Faf/Marsh are both useless.

SA bowling in SA after inclusion of Philander is similar to Aus bowling in Australia. Without Philander, latter has clearly better bowling attack in their own backyards.

Neither have any world class batsmen currently.

The biggest difference between the SA team which beat Australia and this one is AB. Just look at the amount of runs he scored against India and Australia. Those were crucial for SA in the scheme of things and most of these games weren't very high scoring.

One averages 44 and the other 34. What are you on about, lol?

No, the biggest difference is Smith and Australia are a joke without him and Warner. South Africa would wipe the floor with them anywhere in the world and only minnows would lose a series to them at present.

I shudder to imagine what would happen if one of their bowlers gets injured. Whereas South Africa have incredible depth in that department, Australia have nothing on the bench.

Agree. Saddens to see SA totally out of depth in the batting department. Most of their batsmen are there just to fill up spaces.
Especially, Hashim Amla who desparately needs to be phased out.
Two decent batsman would have taken the game away from Pakistan with a mammoth total in the second innings. Even Sri Lanka showed that in UAE recently. Need to be patient with the Pakistani bowling line up which ultimately loses discipline. SA’s inept batting meant that we still have a game on our hands.

What a spell by Cummins and Hazlewood. What a relentless bowling attack!
Ozzie batting might be weak but their bowling is the best I’ve seen them field in the last decade or so.

SA are stronger right now without Smith and Warner for Australia. But they would still beat us black and blue without Smith and Warner in Australia. That's why I don't understand why our fans are downplaying India's potential series.
