I think the 200k dollars a year salary probably put a few high profile candidates off applying for the role of head coach.

That sounds like good money. Why is this not good enough for people?

The BCCI pays Shastri $1 million a year along with providing him luxury accommodation, perks etc.

After that I believe Langer is Paid $500k a year. The PCB has to offer this amount to be competitive

I can bet my house, PCB are regretting sacking Mickey Arthur. The fact they got rid of him without lining up a replacement and kept Sarfraz on as captain tells you one thing. Wasim Khan isn't the saviour we hoped for.

Please bring back Najam Sethi and get rid of Wasim Khan + Ehsan Mani.

I despise Sethi for the man he is and with all the baggage he brings, but one thing for sure he wouldn't have got have sent Mickey to pack his bags until he had a replacement ready.

The incompetence makes my blood boil!

Not really Mickey Arthur isn't being missed. The PCB did the right thing by showing the door to a guy who watched over 14 consecutive ODI losses. All members of the Cricket Committee were unanimous on the decision and Arthur failed to make his case. I will gladly accept another coach than the incompetent, over rated Mickey Arthur who isn't really going to find a coaching gig any where else soon.

Again you are missing the point and not thinking pragmatically about this.

I have no issues with sacking Mickey Arthur if we had a coach of higher calibre lined up, but with mostly inexperienced and/or unqualified applicants like Misbah, Dean Jones, Waqar Younis and Mohsin Khan, the rational decision would be to retain Mickey, as all of these applicants are inferior to him.

You have been a vocal critic of Misbah over the years on PP (views of which I concur) and we are both well aware of his lack of cricketing intelligence and his outdated approach. Now it seems that he's in prime position to land the Head Coach role, so I have a simple question to ask, would you be more satisfied with him over Mickey?

I know deep down if you had the choice between MA and Misbah, you certainly wouldn't opt for the latter.

When Jones was interviewed, the second question they asked him was "if you got the job how much money would you want"

Surely if you want the best people, you have to be prepared to pay the best salaries.

Tbh Dean Jones is not someone reputed or with much experience. He probably priced himself out. You can't pay someone $500,000 plus just because of the color of their skin or because they are English, Australian.

But yes the Salary the PCB should have offered for this position was $500,000-600,000 in line with how much England and Australia pay their head coach

Not really, my objections to Misbahs appointment aside. Mickey Arthur had outlived his welcome. The PCB did not sack him for no reason. I was watching a senior reporter a few days ago and he mentioned that Mickey Arthur's relationship with the squad had really deteriorated towards the end.

Just because you do not have an eye catching replacement doesn't mean you can't fire an existing incompetent coach who was given every possible opportunity to make a case for himself.

Second question in an interview......I mean come on.

Would be nice if you coughed out the extra 200k. PCB isn’t being bank rolled by rich papa here fyi

Terrible stuff.

Looks like their minds were made up before the interview.

Oh please the PCB has an annual budget of Rs 10 billion

and every penny of that counts because PCB is funded by the government which is under severe debt crisis and owes Billions of dollars to others. The annual budget is actually a loan the government will pay back to someone if we can stay afloat.....but nah lets go get ourselves an elite coach because hey YOLO

What an ill informed statement. The PCB is not funded by the govt. The PCB generates its own revenues from gate receipts, tv rights, ICC funds and all this has added up to Rs 10 billion. It takes no loan or grants from the govt. In fact the Pakistani government once directed the PCB to contribute 5% to the other boards. If the PCB can afford to pay so many useless officials in the PCB fat salaries undeservedly, they can afford to pay $600,000 plus to an elite international coach.

this post screams ignorance and hyperbole

i agree that if the pcb can pay useless officials crores a year, they should be able to hire an elite coach.

but lets be honest the coaching application game was just a show. we all new misbah would be the next coach. they were jerking dean jones around and the rest of us.
