Its Moeen Ali - details are below.

But.

We have people here up in arms because of what happened in NZ with Pakistan players, putting down PCB etc - wonder what the reaction will be now?

==

Before the tour - 1st Jan 2021 :

Following the covid-19 testing on 30 December, the touring party for the Sri Lanka Test tour have all tested negative.

They will fly tomorrow evening.

On Arrival in Sri Lanka: 4- Jan 2021:

England all-rounder Moeen Ali has tested positive for Covid-19 upon the squad's arrival in Sri Lanka.

The 33-year-old, who tested negative before departure, will now isolate for 10 days in accordance with the Sri Lanka government's quarantine protocol.

Fellow all-rounder Chris Woakes has been deemed as a possible close contact, and will observe a period of self-isolation and further testing.

England's two-Test tour of Sri Lanka starts in Galle on 14 January.

England had lateral flow tests and a PCR test at Hambantota airport upon arrival, with Moeen's PCR test returning the positive.

The rest of the touring parting will be retested on Tuesday morning, before being allowed to train for the first time on Wednesday.

I thought only PCB failed in its Covid protocols as a cricket board Mamoon ?

Pathetic from England. An embarrassment to the entire cricket world, icc should just ban them from all cricket.

This is the reaction I'm supposed to have right?

Not surprised that it is Moeen. It had to be him.

Come on man

@ topic. Unfortunately, anyone can get covid while traveling despite taking full precautions. ECB too will be criticized if they or the players handled the matter casually.

In cricket, Pakistan is the only country where the breach happened at board level.

So far we have had the following breaches:

1. Archer leaving his hotel and going home during the Pakistan series.
2. PCB sending COVID positive players to New Zealand.
3. West Indies players breaking bubble in New Zealand.
4. English players training in a non-quarantine facility in South Africa.

In all these four instances, only in Pakistan’s case did the breach happen at the board level, and that is why it is unforgivable.

Lord Mamoon of Mordor just yesterday afternoon

Mamoon just bowled himself then drops a causal racist comment in the thread about Moeen.

Bro, this is why people gets behind you. Moeen is a British born, raised & educated guy - he represents British people, their custom & ideology.... doesn’t matter if he is a Muslim with long beard or born to Pakistani parents.

Sometimes, we are too judgmental on Asian people - here in Toronto, we are in red zone and hard core lock down .... do you know, it’s the South Asians who are the most disciplined people here. I see the black & white people roaming around recklessly, doing party and booze together, hanging around in groups... Toronto probably is the most educated city in world, yet this ... my cousins live in Brooklyn NY, Chicago & LA - there the whites, blacks & Latinos give a damn about COVID protocol.

It’s viral contamination- Moeen can catch it on flight, in washroom at airport, even at prayer hall ....

This is an extremely contagious virus. Literal global pandemic. Stop blaming players.

Hopefully he recovers quickly (or even better it ends up being a false positive), does have the beneficial consequence of pretty much ruling him out the first test though so he can't somehow sneak in ahead of Leach or Bess.

BBC were reporting that he is likely to miss the 1st test

Tested negative on the 1st, and now he is positive. Something gone wrong here.

It's about time cricketing nations take a long hard look at admitting folks from the UK looking at the atrocious way they have handled Covid out there.

That includes us too, mind you.

I'm surprised this tour went ahead what with the new faster spreading covid strand here in England. Sri Lanka is taking a huge risk.

I know, if it was the other way around no way would Lanka be allowed into the UK.
