Below I have proposed my top 6 for Indian ODI side en route to 2023 World Cup:-

Rohit
Pant/Shaw
Kohli
Gill/Shreyas
KL
Pandya

This will be my top 6. Pant at the top will take on the bowling especially in powerplay overs against an attacking field. If he gets out early, then Kohli, Rohit and Gill will lay the foundation and provide a platform for the duo, KL and Pandya, to accelerate on it and post a strong total on board.

I was quite keen on considering Shaw as second opener but we need a left hander in top 6, so will go with Pant ahead of Shaw. Things may change based on form and other factors but the core will be revolving around this only.

Discuss!

Rohit
Dhawan
Kohli
Pant +
Rahul
Pandya

Iyer and Gill are fantastic batsmen but it is not possible to accommodate them in the same lineup as Rohit, Kohli and Dhawan.

They will have to wait for the post 2023 transition to cement their place in the team.

This is an incredible top 6 and on their day better than what any team can dream of putting forward including England.

The greatest top 3 in ODI history and an explosive bottom 3 that can match the likes of England when it comes to power-hitting.

Our Current top order is fine, they have ability to play aggressive cricket.
But our approach need to be change, we need to stop Tuk..Tuk and play more aggressive in power play.

Dhawan will be 38 by 2023 World Cup. He is a good ODI player but slightly limited and with age, it will become worse only.

The World Cup is only 2 years away and he plays only one format in international cricket so there is not much of a chance of him burning out.

He has been a terrific opener for India with big match temperament. He deserves to sign off by featuring in a home World Cup.

It seems cruel to deny him the opportunity of playing a World Cup in India after being a fixture in the ODI team for 8 years, and the fact he is still playing very well and has not shown any signs of age-related decline.

Dhawan needs to go.
Sharma and Dhawan waste too many balls and then they expect the lower order batters to strike at 200.

Shaw
Rohit
Kohli
Pant +
Rahul
Pandya

This should be our top 6.

Won't happen, but would like to see this lineup

Pant
Shaw
Gill
Virat
KL
Pandya
