England (416 & 425) convincingly defeat West Indies (457 & 143) by 241 runs in the 2nd Test match to win the series 2-0 with one match to play

brilliant fightback from the windies, 400 is on.
atrocious bowling from bashir, he has bowled long hop after long hop

Former England captain Nasser Hussain, speaking on Sky Sports Cricket:

"When Atkinson bounced out Brathwaite and Stokes set the plan, we all went 'wow, that was brilliant!'.

"Then when you don't get a wicket in the session you go 'you overdid it' - that's captaincy.

"What I will say is in the history of the game, there have not been many fast bowlers who have had long, successful careers by just being the enforcer.

"There are other skills come into play...so Mark Wood is a multi-dimensional bowler.

"Plan A is short-pitched stuff, but there are other modes and ways of getting dismissals."

West Indies' Kevam Hodge scores first Test hundred from 143 balls

Hodge brought up the landmark with a boundary, easing Stokes through long-off exquisitely, and promptly ran away in celebration before removing his helmet and kissing the West Indies badge.

England about to get a brutal dose of reality about life without Anderson and Broad.

67 overs and the ball has been changed three times. This is the 4th ball. Ridiculous

Disappointed to see the way Althanaze got out after making it to 82 inside 100 deliveries.

He's someone that WI need to persist with as he's got a solid base just needs to tune up his stance and movement.

Hodge at 31 I'd say can serve them in Tests for about 4-5 years depending on how he pans out and performs as he can bowl handy left arm spin too.

McKenzie needs to go back to domestic for a year or two and they should get Chanderpaul back.

Kavem Hodge’s maiden century rallied West Indies and defied England on a compelling second day of the second Test at Trent Bridge.

Hodge, a 31-year-old playing only his fourth Test, should have been caught on 16 by Joe Root, but instead went on to make 120 to breathe life into the tourists and the series.

From 84-3 in response to England’s 416, Hodge added 175 for the fourth wicket with the similarly impressive Alick Athanaze, who contributed 82.

Hodge reached his century by driving Ben Stokes for four, then celebrated by leaping into the arms of batting partner Jason Holder.

He was eventually lbw to Chris Woakes, leaving Holder and Joshua da Silva to take West Indies to 351-5, 65 behind.

In sapping heat, England worked hard in their first day in the field since the retirement of bowler James Anderson.

Mark Wood enthralled the crowd with some lightning-fast bowling, then provided England with a concern over his fitness when he had to leave the action in the evening session.

You can't count this West Indies side out. They are capable of alot more than people give them credit for. When I was pointing this out during the first test a certain poster was laughing at me. I wonder what he has to say now.

Brilliant from West Indies. This match has become really interesting now.

West indies will win the match but don't put your house savings and investment properties into it.

WHat a fight back for windies. They are not going down easily. Vibes of that famous gabba test.

Despite WI has more T20 mercenaries they respect this format which i admire. They produce guys who are willing to play proper Test cricket. They need a strong leader to harness the talent.

I'm cheering for the West Indies to win from here. The game is far from over and I'm staying optimistic until the very end lol
351/5 in 84 overs is superb & ENG on a good deck are struggling . New ball in the morning , if Wood not fit to bowl WI can get a decent lead which would be huge ! ps - Sinclair also a decent bat !

Decent fightback from Windies. England got carried away with the short ball tactics and allowed Hodge , a good backfoot player, to get away.

Credit to Athanaze imo. Took the attack on when the others were struggling to up the ante.

Our Test middle order in the 2000s of Younis, Yousuf and Inzamam would've made merry on this pitch.

Holder is batting too high at 6. Both Sinclair and Da Silva should bat above him.

Seems like the pitch is at its very best for batting today. WI shouldn't throw iit away. Just as i said he threw it away

They threw it away badly. SHould have held on till lunch and take the lead but I don't think that is going to happen.

Good cluster by English bowlers this morning. Good tight lines earned them early wickets.

They need Leach like bowler in this set up. Big missing component. Bashir is okay. But not a strike spin option.

Missed the hattrick WOAKES....cleaning the tail in a hurry.

9 down WINDIES.

Such a shame that Josh hasn't got the ability to do much in this situation.

Time wasting exercise going on here...

Pointless approach by Da silva. HE should try to add runs as quickly as possible. 14 runs today in 51 balls from him.

This could be heading towards a draw.

Just 7 more to end the trail.

There has to be an explanation why Wood is unable to beat the tailenders with pace in overcast condition. HE has leaked most runs.

Pitch is slightly slower. Batsmen have loads of time to adjust. The movement has disappeared. Now Shamar joseph smashed a six with contempt.

Best way to get these guys out is by throwing wide one creating an angle. Eventually they will edge one. This short ball tactic on this pitch is pitiful as the pitch has no pace.

Which is why it's frustrating whenever people start demanding WI Test status be revoked after every defeat.

As if all other teams are world beaters in the format. WI beat England at home in 2019 and 2022, and took the 2017 and 2020 away series to a decider. They got a better result with a second-string team in Australia than Pakistan have with their legends since the late 1970s !

The likes of England, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka haven't even won a Test down under in years, let alone at the Gabba.

Now they were undercooked for Lord's, and the 1st innings effort in the field here was poor. However the fight with the bat has been encouraging to watch.
