Really excited to see who wins, I like both Bangla bros and England. Will sacrifice some of my sleep to watch the end:afridi

Can't believe I'm gonna tune in to Bangladesh vs a team that is not Pakistan.

What has the world come to? :danish

Bangladesh should win!!!! Unfortunately England can not handle pressure

it will be midnight here in USA, start of a very busy working week tomorrow, still I'm planning to watch the match and hoping to see BD making history.

Odds favor England

But In Shaa Allah we can win this. The whole word is behind us

You think Shabbir Rahman had any sleep last night ? Nothing compared to this one but I have played some very "pressure games " for my school, college and club ( for school in particular) and could not sleep well the night before. You folks had any such experience, I'm sure you did.

Yeah, it is like the night before an exam except you can do literally nothing the night before to "prepare" for it.

I just tried to put off all cricket till the moment.

I was a star Batsman in my playing days, never really took pressure and was cool as :misbah most of the time !! Also chased like a boss whenever we were batting second :kohli

I think England will win quite comfortably, but like everyone else English that I know, I genuinely hope that Bangladesh beat us.

I want BD to win just for the sake of cricket. A win today will be a huge boost for BD cricket and for test cricket in general.

Well played sabbir. Taijul has a hs of 64 in FC cricket so he can hold a bat. Cook should bring spin on

Cook should give the next one to rashid then take the new ball and give it to moeen.

BD should just pack themselves with spin all rounders from 7-11 and prepare rank turners every single time.

Damn that's out. I was right. Stupid to take a single off that last ball

Outside the line but wasn't he playing a shot? I couldn't tell. Looked like a forward defense. That is a shot

Sabbir the culprit. Kept giving away the strike to tailenders. Good test match, hope Desh bounces back in Dhaka test.

Good game but there was never a chance for Bangladesh today. I still think he was playing a shot kind of

Looked like a shot for me. Pretty unlucky for that last lbw. But 23 runs is a fair bit.

Glad Bangladesh lost. World order restored. Minnows must be reminded that they are minnows at the end of the day.

Shabbir has been selfish here, never protected tail enders, wanted to stay not out. Sorry BD, you tried best but I will blame Shabbir.

Well that was quick.

Good fight shown by Bangladesh nonetheless.

:))

I'm surprised Sabbir's tactics worked for so long. He flirted with luck by giving tailenders too much of the strike.

Still, he's the reason they got that far in the first place.

Just that one mistake and game over in the next 3 balls..

All well and good trusting the partner but you don't expose a tailender to a reversing ball no matter his experience. Looks like Sabbir didn't even do the bulk of the scoring today. It was always on the cards when you give the strike to the tailender every other delivery.

Thanks Shabbir for helping England wrapping up quickly by exposing the tailenders and not wasting much of my sleep. I can go to bed almost without losing much sleep.

Perhaps it was not only about giving strike to tail. I think every run mattered and what happened was that luck didn't favor us. Just how long could Sabbir go away defending the tail. We lost the match because our tail has scored little to nothing

not Sabbir's fault, it was his 1st test give him a break gdi... he did well. blame jokers like Tamim who bottles under pressure.

I just realized, Shabbir was also making his test debut, and was not a veteran , lets not be too harsh on him.

Tamim scored a 78 in the first inning

But Tamim otherwise is known to bottle it in limited overs under pressure.

We lost because of our lower order scoring little to none. That's where we lost the match.

We still played well after 14 months gap

Ah danggit that's a real heartbreaker. Played England still not all lost for Bangla. Should be proud of their efforts this game hopefully they can go one better in the next one and square the series up. That would be a huge boost for Bangla cricket and cricket in general. You can do it!

Wait WTH happened ?? I came back from lunch and this :(

Shabbir is stupid in exposing the tail today. ran out of luck eventually !!

Another quite brilliant test match. Well done Bangles for coming close. Stokes is the real deal as a test all rounder now.

England squeaked through because of Bangladesh inexperience and England's deep batting and bowling lineup. Being able to play 3 spinner and 3 fast bowlers and still being able to bat till 8-9 down. Gives them a big advantage in low scoring games.

I have to admit that was a good fight by Bangladesh. The team has done well over the past few years and have a had a good learning curve. They're not push overs any more (at least at home) and will be a difficult team to face.

Still need to see how they perform outside of Bangladesh but this is a huge positive for world cricket that Bangladesh is now becoming a competitive team.

Stokes is super valuable. Better than broad in these conditions+batsman who can tough it out.

Well played Bangladesh. Hopefully the start of something real.

Lessons Learnt :

- Bangladesh played fantastic cricket and were unlucky to lose.
- BD spinners >> England spinners
- BD lost their huge chance of their first real test win against a big nation in 20 years (beating Windies 4th team in Windies does not count).
- BD players lack the killer instinct. They are an over-excitable bunch and needed a cool head. Shakibs hare-brained shot is an example.
- It was a magnificent test match and proved once again that test cricket is the real deal. It is unmatched in any sport in terms of providing a range of twists and turns. It is an epic story that develops over 5 days. Nothing can match it.
- BD - please realise this. Stop putting so much emphasis on ODI cricket just because this is your strength! The fact is ODI cricket is meaningless other then the world cup, champions trophy, asia cup. For example, if England had won the ODI series 3-0 and you won the test series 1-0 - do you really think England would consider that a triumph???? Noone remembers the ODI series winners. No-one cares other then BD. Test cricket is the one.
- Unfortunately, Cook and Root won't fail next test. A big defeat looms for BD.

A part of me wanted a muslim country to win. But the other part was struggling to empathise with their unsporting and unrealistic supporters at the ground and on the forums.

However, overall - I felt sorry for BD and they really deserved to win. Good luck for 2nd test BD.

Congratulations England very well played never easy for them to win a test in sub continent and with all the pressure of losing a test from a minnow side they pulled it off brilliantly.

This win reminds me of how Inzamam batted and won us the game against Bangladesh that was same kind of pressure also big day for for poor Stokes after losing his team WT20 final he got his moment by winning this match.

Bangladesh need to handle the pressure on big stages they are playing high level cricket for ages now.

Great Test match. Congrats to both teams, particularly Poms for winning a tight battle. These type of matches teach lot more in 5 days than a year of soft cricket.

I am sure this will bring lot more focus & interest for Test cricket in Bangladesh. Looking for the 2nd Test at Dhaka.

lol glad England won this. Not a fan of bangladesh at all. I used to be but not anymore.

england really need to sort out their spin woes - both in bowling and batting

I'm glad England won and Bangladesh lost, their team and fans have had a habit of going over the top

In the past use to support them, but after seeing how they go crazy after wins, i can't support them anymore

Jealous maybe.

Why exactly should minnows be reminded that they are minnows.

Unlike fans, the actual test players from Bangladesh or even cricketers from other teams don't consider us as minnows, that is the difference. And we know whose opinion matters most.

A strong Bangladesh team is a big bonus for world cricket. Exactly for this reason ICC wanted to give us their full membership early. It's all because of the potential with our economy and budding cricketers.

Reality is, cricket needs us, and all other potential sides more than we think.

I am not going to talk about our cointry but for now let's just talk about Afghanistan. They add a different dimension to the game and a variation instead of playing same team over and over again. 3 of their players are in BPL and 2 of them in PSL. Also they add a variation in terms of geography itself. A team from middle East. Also, with Afghanistan cricket team their is also plenty of fans, which will attract sponsors and broadcasters. Just imagine, a series between Afg and Zim was held in UAE in front of crowds better than those you will see in any Pak game.

I don't have any particular affinity towards Afghanistan cricket. But I would love for them to be a good side. That would be great for the game which is losing its popularity

DRS screwed Bangladesh, the 9th wicket wasn't going to hit the stumps like it was projected.

Afghanistan should is deserve a Test status.

Well played BD. That's how you should play test cricket. Play to win even if you lose some while trying to win.

I thought it looked 50/50 and it was supposed to be umpire's call but it was hitting more than 50% of the leg stump. The ball had a lot to travel.

But anyways, I won't complain regarding DRS.
