Hopefully Sri Lanka put up some kind of a fight this time, so that England don't get on too much of a roll heading into our series.

Going by Cricinfo reports, its extremely cold in Durham. Angelo Matthews says this is the coldest weather he's ever played cricket in!

We could be looking at another 3 day test.

Hopefully Sri Lanka put up a fight but seeing the conditions they are up against gonna be a struggle it seems

Am I the only one who just wants Sri Lanka to be rolled again within a couple of days by England?

I don't know what it is but something inside just tells me that this is probably not going to end too well for us #redwedding

SL team should have had a training camp in Nuwara Eliya before this tour

Sri Lankans look absolutely freezing :))

Jumpers on, fielders wearing layer after layer, bobble hats and blankets out for the players on the bench, fielders keeping their hands warm !

Man I've never been a fan of Durham as a venue.

Nothing against the people there, but there's zero atmosphere, freezing cold temperatures, miserable overhead conditions and a slow, low pitch.

Give the tests to sunny Southampton here instead :D. Touching on 20 degrees, sun out and I'm sure we could muster a bigger crowd than this!

Broad will be thinking "yeah how did it feel when you guys asked me to bowl 10 overs on the trot at scorching temperatures in the desert."

Younis Khan is 41 years old and still he is lagging on 9k whereas Cook is 10 years younger than him and he is just 7 runs away from 10k

This is what happens when one plays for Eng and other plays for Pak/NZ/SL although Yoni missed some tours which goes against him..

English commantors are good but at times they are soo annoying. Vince hit a boundary and they need to say how it will help his confidence and his test career, it's one boundary mann  . He hit some in 1st test didn't help him much there did it

They were saying how important hitting an early boundary in an innings when you're just starting your test career can be in getting going and getting your confidence up in terms of this specific innings. It was visible last game how desperate Vince was to get off the mark when he kept nailing it but straight to the fielders and was trying to push for any single he could.

Pakistan doesn't play as many tests as Eng every year.

That was because It was his 1st game I'm sure he's over those nerves now. Mahela commentary is good though

Loads of variable bounce already. Good decision by England to bat first, and they will now probably win.

Going to be another 3-dayer.

Root conversation rate for 100s isn't that great. He's only 25 so expect him to improve that

Great fielding from Sri Lanka today, some stunning catches. Best one being that Thirimanne one to get Vince.

Beautiful on drive from Bairstow who I normally find ugly to watch. Still England's best wicket keeper batsman in the longer format
England are blessed with 2 very good dynamic keeper batsmen in Buttler and Bairstow while we have Sarfraz who is a mediocre Limited Overs batsman and unproven in tests outside the subcontinent. Rizwan is a good prospect and should bat at 6 in our ODI team.

England's implosion gives hope but then after looking at those catches, I am not too thrilled

Might actually get the 90 overs in before 6:30. Usually even if a day of Test cricket in England is dragged out until 7pm, they struggle to get the overs in. Good stuff from Sri Lanka.

Root has a really poor conversion rate. Must have missed out on many tons after hitting fifties..

If there is one flaw in his batting, this is it. He seems to lose focus after scoring 50s and 60s. But he's very young and will surely rectify that

Good rearguard here from Ali.

He will also take wickets tomorrow I reckon.

Good start from Ali, 7 runs off the first over.

400 runs on board and England won't need to pad up again and come to bat.

This is quite sad to watch. All of a sudden the Sri Lankans look unfit, disinterested and lazy in the field. Anderson and Broad are going to come out this afternoon with 450 runs to play with and bowl them out for zip all again.

all over for Lanka am afraid

i dont even bother watching now.

Good batting from Ali. Ensuring that SL have no chance whatsoever

SL to lose by an innings again, in front of a depleted and bored crowd - again.

Just a pointless series really. In future, we need zero domestic games in April and zero international games in May. It should be domestic games only in May.

The English international season should be 1st June to 10th October. It doesn't get chilly until November nowadays.

He's not done justice to himself for the last 2 years with the bat and his bowling has kept his place in the side.

May to Aug/September is fine imo. SL are a weak side and have played poorly. I don't think the result would be any different if they had toured next month instead.

Ali superb knock. Proved his position in the team as a very good bowling All- Rounder.

This is abject surrender from Sri Lanka.

Rather have had Bangladesh tour TBH. SL have already toured England recently in 2011 and 2014.
