What's new

England defeat India in record chase by 7 wickets in rescheduled 5th Test at Edgbaston: Series drawn

Baz is a genius. India blown away
Tactically he's great and he gives players around him confidence. A terrific leader of men/manager.

Only flaw is at times he can be over aggressive and that can come back to bite you. This is the difference between him and Kane.

Kane is a bit more conservative and wont be more kamikaze or chase it, he's more methodical about everything.

Also the Indian spinners are so overrated. Take them away from Mumbais dust bowls their bang average.

Jadeja is not much outside the Subcontinent.

Ashwin is better and I don't know why they don't pick him here.

This is a stroll in the park. India’s bowling this morning has been poor and Kohli is quiet as a mouse. They were clearly mentally defeated yesterday by the Lees-Crawley opening partnership and the great Root-Bairstow stand.
Who is getting credited for this turn around in England?

Where are the Indian fans in this thread?
Fr I was getting so much from a few of them about England beating us only for the same to happen to them. Probably more embarrassing for them given they were in control of most of this match.

The test will come against Aus in Aus and how it fares in the SC.

Yep. For now need to focus on a very tough upcoming home series against South Africa, and then comes a huge test away to Pakistan.

Absolutely superb from Root and Bairstow.

These chases in the last innings have been absolutely amazing!

My goodness what a shot from Root.

Repeat of the reverse lap for 6 against Wagner

England are coasting to victory.

A lame performance by India this morning - I think they were mentally shot yesterday.

2-2 will probably be a fair result but India will be kicking themsleves not to win this match when they were in their box seat for 3 days.

India have absolutely bottled this Test match, after three days was looking like an easy win. How on earth are they about to lose it by seven (or six) wickets lol

They're going to remember this hammering for some time. Must be ruing the opportunity missed last year.
Current England would blank them 4-0 or 5-0

 • Jadeja is pure garbage as a bowler in overseas. He should either bat as a batsmen or get out
 • Shardul got earlier fluke performances otherwise he is garbage as well
 • Shami has lost some pace as well, he is still decent but not as good he used to be(Age fraud for sure)
 • Ashwin should always play
 • They are badly misssing Ishan Sharma(the version that played under Kohli)
 • Siraj Purple patch is over

Yes look at our other batting options, Jadeja should bat as a batsman in this team (No.5 or No.6). Ashwin should be our spinner if needed. A proper bowler (pacer) should play in place of Thakur. We need to look out for other options in place of Siraj (tall bowlers like Ishant, Prasiddh, etc). We also missed Rahul, Rohit...

Aur khelo IPL.

In hindsight, had India played the 5th Test as per original schedule, India would have won 2-1 or 3-1.

Aur khelo IPL!

:)))

If India had batted normally they would have scored more runs (and consumed more time) in both the innings. At worst, this would have been a drawn match!

Got to say that India deserve this severe humiliation after their very hasty and highly dubious early exit from the Test series last September.

Should have won the series 3-1 but going to end up as a tied 2-2

As above India could have wrapped up the series last year England were in a bad place.
Got their just desserts. Chastening.

KP mentioning that Jadeja has been darting the ball in which works in India where some spin and some remain straight but in England he needs to generate bit more loop, drift and flight.

I think Ashwin in recent times have been smarter in this regard where he was able to understand the requirements from him on a given surface.

Yea the same Ashwin took what 3 wkts in 3 test matches in SA earlier this year and 2 of them were no:10 and 11. So much so for being smarter. Atleast, unlike Ashwin, Jadeja doesn't give excuses nor does he call himself a god gift to mankind.

Second century in the match for YJB, and sixth in eight tests this year. What a renaissance!

Bairstow is an absolute beast - in every single format of the game now.

He always had the talent but now is delivering on what he was capable of.

This match has given us a better idea about Siraj, Thakur, Iyer, Gill (should not be opener), Vihari.

Pujara & Kohli will remain in the team due to no replacements! Shami will also remain for same reason.

Love that one from Ravi THAT ROCKETED INTO THE FENCE LIKE A TRACER BULLET!

The Greatest of all time Asian team :)))

That would probably still remain true. As per Pakistan cricket fans, their greatest test team was under Imran who won some 14 matches in 50 games with 3-4 outside Asia.

He is a better all format batsman than Babar Azam

But I will get lynched on this forum for holding this view

Fair enough. As mentioned in another post India would have still gone with Jadeja for his batting like they did in earlier matches. However, Ashwin averages 28 in Eng with much more control. Still the 4 pace attack required a solid no 7. The way Eng has batted not sure would have made any difference either ways

The blame solely lies on India's worthless batting lineup.
If Pant and Jadeja had not dug India out of the hole in the first innings, the match would have been completed in 3 days. India's second innings were quite forgettable, notwithstanding Pujara's 60 odd.

Gill, Vihari, Iyer, Kohli...all worthless passengers.

England's highest ever run-chase, achieved at a gallop against a good bowling attack.

They made it look easy.

They avoided a 0-5 loss in Australia by one wicket.

Then they lost in WI.

What a turnaround!

Incredible.

Well played England. Congrats to James Robert

India should have won this match after dominating the game 3.5 days

The all time world record chase in Test cricket is 418/7. England can beat this

Indian poor bowling is way too overrated.
378 is a very big chase but poor Indian bowling failed so hard.

Thanks bro. Commiserations

Not overrated at all. Its just that England batting in another level now. Have you not seen how they chased against Kiwis?

India's batting is poor though. We manage to tie this series in spite of our poor batting only due to fast bowlers.

India look very stupid for quitting the tour last year.

You had 377 on board and the bowling, barring Bumrah with the changed ball provided zero threat.
The way Siraj bowled is simply not the way. Shami has already shown he isn't made for English conditions.

James and I didn't do anything, it was Root and Bairstow!

This England team's ability to rebound from what looks like defeat amazes me.

Very very poor bowling by Indians yet again. They failed everywhere apart from Australia obviously.

I think it's time to move on from Shami. He is too one dimensional.

At least Siraj deserves a go with the new ball before he is let go

B-Mac changed a historically timid NZ. He has more resources to do his things with England. He's the Jurgen Klopp of cricket as it stands :))
