I expect Aussies to get a lead of around 250 runs and get an innings victory.

Leech has such horrible figures. 11 overs, 95 runs, 1 wicket.

That is a good T20 scorecard with the projected score for a 20 over game looking good for 180.

Lead 196 already.

England innings defeat anyone?

Either it will be a collapse from Australia in an attempt to up the ante or England finding their range after overnight's break. One way or the other this session is likely to be entertaining. I am ready with my popcorn.

Ashes in Australia vs Ashes in England which one as a neutral fan prefer? I prefer Australia matches. I just love the atmosphere, the ground, broadcast.

Ashes in Australia hands down. Cricket in Australia is far more entertaining than cricket in England can ever be. Green pitches and the Dukes ball makes every trundler look like Malcolm Marshall :amir

211 run lead.

300 lead and innings defeat for England.

Barring rain.

England look deflated.

Olly is best English performer in this match.

Travis head looking to in same form as he left yesterday , looking set for a daddy hundred here

No they don’t. I saw a lot of Marshall. England have had nobody remotely like him. He made even the great Hadlee look ordinary when they bowled together.

Not many pitches in England are green anyway. In Australia these days you get five quite similar wickets. Used to be that Perth was the flier and Sydney the Bunsen. In England you might get a greentop, but then a road, then one with good carry, then a couple of turners later in the season. But that can all change even during an English match depending on weather.

Australia were in a very similar position in 2010 and England got 500-1 in the second innings.

But they had Cook and Trott then, not Burns and Malan.

Straight through where first slip should have been. Why is there no first slip 66?

As much as Rory burns has been inconsistent i think this might be his day. Perfect batting conditions Sun is out. But he has to content with 3 high quality seamers and a high quality spinner

Pitch has lost its zip from what i can see. Batting appears to be easier. Root must make most of his form by making a double century.

Wood is not a smart cookie is he? Lacks the aptitude to be a successful test bowler. He got pace. But wasted.

Uncomfortable passage for England. One thing i can promise you about this Australian attack. They will be relentless. Especially Cummins & Hazlewood. Starc can be erratic. But the other 2 are going to be on the money.

Day 3: Lunch Break - England trail by 255 runs

AUS 425
ENG 147 & 23/0 (8) CRR: 2.88

Haseeb and Burns survive to Lunch, a little nugget of positivity that England can take forward. They are still however a long long way behind in this game, and will do extremely well to avoid defeat.

What a hand, Travis Head. That’s got to be up there as one of the best Ashes knocks played in a very long time. Shades of Gilchrist at the WACA in 2006.

255 more runs just to make Australia bat again.

Honestly after the mauling that England have received in this match so far, it could be considered a relatively good result if they even get that far, thereby avoiding the innings defeat.

Haseeb hameed is a decent player but nothing special.
I don't think he is gonna average more than 40 in test cricket.

Lyon is bowling well here , Poms should not let him settle , he may become difficult then.

One of the very few promising partnerships for England thus far. It won’t be enough to save the game, but these incremental demonstrations of good form could help England ahead of the second Test.

Joe root has to show here why he is the best test batsman in the world right now

I prefer matches in Australia because I manage to wake up early in the day then and that leaves me with full day time with lot of stuffs to do :))

I am all for Root. Go and get a hundred and get your away Ashes record sorted.

Very good partnership so far ,can England give Aussie 200 run Target ??

This is not the old Root to miss out on conversion. Barring some special act I back Root to go big.

If England can bat tomorrow as well , they will give a solid total for Aussies , match will be interesting , but that is long way now , considering depth in English batting , if Root can stay others can build solid partnerships around him.

England for me 100 percent, the matches in Australia are too one-sided and devoid of quality as the England team have often been undercooked and inept in Australian conditions. I struggle to remember a memorable Ashes series in Australia over the past 30 years. Even 2010/11 was uninteresting for neutral observers given that Australia was in a period of transition and practically self-combusted during that series.

Green has been economical so far , but he needs to get some wickets to justify his place in the side.

Test cricket in England is at another level. No other country can compete with it.

1) England’s timezone is a major plus. Last session post tea is at peak time in Middle East, Sub continent and people from all segments can watch it.

2) Australia Time zone is a major minus. By 9am in morning almost 2 sessions are gone.

3) Pitches in England produce most exciting end to end Test cricket, that is not the case in Australia.

4) I have lived in both Eng & Aus,
And to be honest found Aus very dull and boring, in Melbourne there is nothing to do after 7pm.

Indian bowling attack is better than so called ATG attack of Australia or India attack is best in the world at this moments.

If ENgland finds someone remotely in the class of Cook/Strauss as openers their MO performance will improve.

Great fightback by England so far.

Not daring to dream just yet, but some undoubted strength of character being demonstrated here by England, and good to have something for the English fans to cheer for.

England need to get to close of play with these 2 still in tact. im shocked the test match isnt over already.

England in must better position than 147 all out first day , they trail by 75 runs only now , and with 8 wickets in hand they should expect to get another 200 here , thus they would be setting Aussies almost 150 runs target !

I thought by now it would be “Australia won by an innings and 150 runs”.

Well done Joe root and dawid Malan.
Joe root is showing why he is the best batsman in the world.

I’ll settle for 40.

40 is alright as an opener but he surely does have some technical deficiencies although I do want him to succeed in test cricket and he is definitely better than all other openers England have tried.

These kind of predictions are based on opinions and wish :) Don't take them seriously. Looking at how Australian lower order batted you could see pitch got flattened out. It was a matter of English batsman stepping up. They did step up. Now game on.
