What's new

England v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Birmingham | Aug 3-7, 2016 | Day 2

The bounce or lack of on this pitch means they need a third man

Azhar is our best Test batsman along with Shafiq. Hes been unlucky in this series.

Azhar in danger of getting squared. Not getting in line, as also pointed out by Atherton.

I wanna see a clips package of Andersons follow through

Only hope today is that wicket is on slower side, there are few peaches but mostly harmless deliveries.

Sami looks much better than Shan

Whatever the remedial work on Azhar Ali's technique was, it hasn't worked.

He's playing round his front pad, so the bat is slicing across the line. How can that work?

Broad going wide on delivery trying to get Azhar across

Pakistan's defiant start has been quite impressive. Some decent shots here

Won't be a problem on this pitch

I will say that if he gets out the same way today

You base your opinions overly on the IF..Then principle which shows you are not even sure of our your own opinions. Azhar has been awful in this series and he does not have a good record in away series. Its for everyone to see and one inning wont change anything.

That second last ball was played well by Azhar. In line and full face of the bat

this pitch is similar to UAE with very low bounce, no demons in this pitch and weather is also fine for a good batting.. no excuses for these lagaan waala batsmen to not score runs here...

Can anyone recall after how many overs has yk come to the pitch this series. It's definitely been earlier than usual

Sami Aslam = slightly refined version of Fawad Alam.

I think you are overtly harsh on the Pakistani batsmen. Sure they are not on the level of their English counterparts, but they were plenty of edges and misses when England were batting. Cook nearly dragged on twice...

They shot played by Sami Aslam, that's what Shan was incapable of

The day an opener scores a 100 for us in a Test in England....

I'm commenting on his technique, not his potential.

Nice. Playing towards mid on and not square leg. The new ball pair didnt bowl that well to both Azhar and Sami. They didnt exploit Azhars weakness enough. Just once and they stopped after getting hit for 4

Broad has been bowling pies. I wouldve given Woakes the new ball with Anderson

Difference between wng bowlers and our bowlers. Pak bowlers giving away 1 boundary bowl each over. Eng bowlers making you work for runs. Eng always being 40 odd after 10 overs. Pak being 1 or 2 down fr less than 30 after 10

So, there is only 3 innings left for MoHa to prove that he is one of PAK greats. However, PAK is returning in 2018, so he should get 6 more innings to prove that. Even if not, I won't be surprised if he has third bite on the cherry in 2022 - you never know, Pakistan's national cricket asset.

If Azhar doesn't want to open at Oval, then Arthur should drop him & play Rizwan. There is a massive grouping in the team & people are scratching friend's back softly. Azhar won't open & Misbah won't drop him - so MoHa has to be played as opener as the other options are Shaan & Sami.

Problem is not with MoHa - problem is with Inzi & Arthur.

YK's arrival to the crease

Lords 16.5 and 17.6
OT 19.1 and 10.3 Pete Rose

Ive been calling for Azhar to open before the series started..

Sohail Khan and Rahat both went at over 4 an over. That's disappointing against any team barring Australia. Only Yasir and Amir to a certain degree kept it tight.

That's the ugliest forward-defense I have seen since Fawad Alam.

Sami has countered Anderson's swing well.

Looks better than Shan but Shan also looked good for the first 20 runs.

Batting is a beautiful art. It should be aesthetically pleasing.

Pakistani batsmen are just painful to watch. No grace and elegance at all.

I don't mind if not-so-pleasing batsman has all the shots, can play on the off-side, cut, pull, loft, time well. Unlike Fawad.

That's why I rate Sami.

Finally the umpire talks to Anderson but still he should be more assertive. Whats Anderson arguing for? Hes been running on the danger zone.

So the umpire talks to Anderson.

Another conspiracy debunked, but Pakistani people will never learn.

SRL has posted 281 - so, we are probably going to see a new World No. 1 after Oval.

Sami has handled swing and seam brilliantly. Wasn't expecting him to be that good.

Lol Anderson snatched that from the umpire? Our bowlers dont do anything. Dont care if this guy has 500 Test wickets but he should be warned for running on the pitch and misconduct with umpires

Brilliant graphic. Sami Aslam playing the ball right underneath his eyes, well done by him.

The umpire literally had one word with Anderson and did you see the way he snatched his sweater??

Where are those who were watching Sami in the Pakistan Cup and saying that he's poor against pace bowling? Looks pretty assured so far to me. Has there been a change in his technique or something?

He's more effective than Masood for sure.

As pointed out by holding, his judgment is much better and playing it late and under his nose. He looked better than Hafeez in one of the test he played in UAE in last 2 years.

Brilliant analysis from Holding.

Sky's cricket pundits are the best on tv in any sport. Even a few duds like Botham/Warne can't bring down the quality.

Only the Carragher/Neville duo came close and they couldn't sustain that level either.

It will be hard to get rid of Hafeez when PCB is spending money to fix his bowling and want to use him as a fifth bowling option
