What's new

England v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Birmingham | Aug 3-7, 2016 | Day 2

A part of me thinks Pakistan are treating this as a Sub continent test. They will want to bat long for 2 days

Pakistsn should bat once, if they get through this. England have thrown everything at them

Yar This Finn is such a horrible bowler, I mean I would literally give Hasan Mohsin (the bowler) a nod over this garbage bowler !!

Nice shot by Azhar, these two need to be looking to be there at lunch unscathed here.

Looking at Sami one thing is also clear that Pakistani coaching staff and seniors know very little about batting. Why they would invest heavily in Shan and not even consider Sami?? - Which is disappointing to see

You got to read the technique of players not your gut or just stats [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849]

Both batsmen have done well here in handling the new ball and steadily settling in. It would be a waste if they lose their wickets not. Should at least score half a ton each if not more from here on our. Plus, with England bowling rubbish it's only a matter of not doing anything silly.

I have to disagree with all the commentators. The solution to Finns problems is not to bowl as fast as possible. The solution is that he should focus on bowling less rubbish

What's with Pakistani players and the obsession of the soul patch beard. First Junaid Khan, then Yasir Shah and now Sami Aslam.

You've rated him for quite some time so I really hope he repays the faith.

Looks solid so far.

Yep. :najam

And then people doubt the eye that I have for talent. :srini

Sami is playing the short ball really well here. I think he should back himself to pull or cut

Correct, I've emphasized this in the past as well. Quite good against the short ball.

A refreshing change after Shan and Younis's struggles against short pitch.

One can add 3-4 years to every Pakistani player except Masood who was born in Kuwait and got educated in the UK, so it is not easy for him to slice a few years.

3 Test innings today - SRL lost wicket on 1st ball, then PAK on 4th & finally AUS on 2nd.

Can anyone tell who has the record of 3 1st ball dismissal of a Test? Imran was one of the bowler, in one occasion.

Hafeez is the reason we are playing well. He sacrificed his wicket to a short and wide ball and England have been bowling mostly that today hoping that these 2 will get out the same way. What a hero

Thanks a fantastic spot! Worth a tweet!

Im thinking the same thing, i even opened his cric info profile to be sure. Doesn't look 20, more like late 20s or even early 30s

Sami is a genuine youngsta beauty. 20. Looks like a kiddo too.

He recently played U19s and broke U19 batting record. And they're age-tested in U19s too.

Hes the real MVP

Azhar balance is getting better as innings progress, he is more confident and Azhar we used to see in UAE. This is slower wicket should suite Pakistan. [emoji4][emoji4][emoji4]

These 2 younger poyz look set now and bowling doesn't look menacing. They should look to accelerate

Gavaskar?

Yes. Twice on 1st ball of Match, twice 1st ball of innings. And, I think once on 2nd ball. But, he was a perfect opener - all 5 were absolute zaffer, you need to be too good to touch those. Besides, once set, it was impossible to drag him to a MoHa like dismissal.

shabaash sami and my man azhar..great to see them fighting..still along way to go but a good start at least..hafeez bekaar aadmi hay..

remember reading this as a trivia question in cricketer magazine in 1994...lol I think Kapil and Marshall were other two.

Dammm at work missing the action. Good start so far. Sami survived for a long time so he must be doing something right. Azhar needs to keep up this form.

Now, I might be proven wrong, but this is the time in UK, when you bat & bat for 2 days. PAK might go to tea 6 down, that's different issue, no one can explain the dismissal of MoHa; but that toss decision was spot on.

Wow :)))
Post of the year.

Day 2 and 3 usually the best days for batting at Edgbaston.

Solid partnership so far, blunting the new ball and showing good temperament. Hope they convert these starts.

Surprised English bowlers haven't tested Azhar with fuller deliveries more.

I think there was a Pak/India test in 87 where both Kapil and IK did that to opponent openers.

Woakes hasn't really moved the ball around much, has he? Which is probably why he's not looking as dangerous as he did in the previous games.

Run Rate has importance in Tests as well, because it can dampen the impact of a collapse.

Pakistan are trotting at the moment, and two wickets here and 80/3 in a session looks poor, even though the batsmen have done a great job fighting it out throughout the session.

On the other hand, 100-110/3 doesn't look as bad.

Like the UAE again, attritional cricket.

Its sensible batting given morning session is hardest for batsmen in England. They'll accelerate more in second and third sessions as conditions get easier for batting.

Sunshine forecasted today and tomorrow.

This is very good for yk as well. Might have to come in a little later
