What's new

England v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Birmingham | Aug 3-7, 2016 | Day 2

Why is it perfectly normal behavior for grown men wearing uncle type suits and taking a selfie

27th over and Cook still has 3 slips and gully and the ball isn't even swinging. Misbah could learn alot from this and see how quickly he takes his slips out once there is no swing.

By the 10th and 11th over Misbah only has one slip

Youngster Aslam must be trying to impress captain Azhar for a spot in ODI team with strike rate of 30

Except this sounds like rubbish. He has 5,4,3 slips for most of the day except in the end

I guess my prediction was damn close,, i predicted 80/1 i guess ;)

Sami needs to be solid in this last over until lunch.

Good come back from Pakistan after losing that poor wicket in the first over. More of the same after lunch please.

One of our openers survived an entire session. Mubarak ho PP

#thankyouSamiAslam

Partnership is already 72. Only 128 more needed for 200 partnership. nazar ha lag jai is partnership ko.

Is that Jim Rosenthal sitting with Trevor Francis?

Is that the first million dollar man Francis? Wonderful English style winger - I saw archieves of 79 & 80 European Cup Finals. Now, England has come to 50mn man Starling at wings....... (And England has got BIG Sam for Brain Clough .......)

That's because his bowlers don't leak runs like ours do hence Coom has the luxury to keep the attacking fielding for as long as he wants. There was a boundary bowled by our bowlers almost every over yesterday barring Yasir Shah.

Great morning session - now Sami has to convert it to a hundred, if possible one at Oval as well; otherwise Azhar 'll remain at 3 & MoHa'll make a GREAT come back against frightening, fearsome WI pace quartet at the mine fields of UAE.

Actually there's a second Edgbaston (well, Birmingham) link with that Nottingham Forest team which didn't just win the league like Leicester, but went on to win those consecutive European Cups to which you refer.

Trevor Francis was one of two Birmingham City strikers at that time. The other was a big, bustling Scottish blond called Kenny Burns who had been converted from a defender when Bob Latchford left for Everton in 1974.

Trevor Francis provided the pace and Kenny Burns provided the muscle at Birmingham.

When Forest were promoted to the top division, Brian Clough signed Kenny Burns - so a year and a half before he signed Francis. And it was an absolute masterstroke. He converted him back into a central defender, but he could play the ball out from the back rather like a Guardiola player like Gerard Pique.

Cloughie paired Kenny Burns with an old-fashioned central defender thug (Dave Needham or Larry Lloyd). They frightened strikers to death all the way across Europe, and then Burns played the ball out from the back.

So the road to two European Cups really began just down the road from Edgbaston, with Kenny Burns.

Important session coming up , Pakistan can't afford to lose more than two wickets in this one.

Here in Australia, the lunch break has been even better than the match.

A half-hour interview with Thommo!

I know it is too early to say but will Pakistan be looking to bat just once?

Ideally yes, bat long and bat once. Play out this day and the next, hopefully accumulating somewhere around 500-550 and go into the third innings with a lead of 200. Even if England manage 300 in their second innings, chasing 100 to win the match shouldn't be a huge issue for even our lulloos..

I know it is very very (can't emphasize enough) unlikely but it would be totally awesome if (big if) that happens. I know chances are like 1 in a thousand.

Waqar had no answers to talk about sami who he didnt give more chances as an opener after the bangladesh tour.. and now sami is playing a gem of an inns for a batsman to play his first 1st class cricket in england facing anderson...

Yes - let's blame Waqar!

Bachat ho gayi. They need to take single double like Yousuf and Younis used to do. No need to go for big shots.

Usually Pakistani batsmen don't capitalize on dropped chances. Let's see how Azhar goes

Lol Azhar escapes once again. Such a rubbish batsman. !!!

But still he has scored a lot of runs for Misbah to include him in the next few test matches

Probably the worst two commentator combo. One is morose the other is inept.

Would be nice now for the umpire to walk down the pitch for a look

That Forest side was probably ultimate of Club football - hardly any big name (I think Martin O'neil, Shilton & Viv Anderson were only Top Internationals - Francis didn't play in one of the finals); but that combined unit was wonderful in English style long ball game.. And they were the 1st master of 1-0s.
