What's new

England v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Birmingham | Aug 3-7, 2016 | Day 2

Terrible behaviour from Anderson, if he was so upset about it he should have reviewed it, needs to get some sort of punishment for it

England missing an enforcer like Wahab who can rough the batsmen up and allow other bowlers to take wickets.

Very good shot to get 50. Really well played Azhar. Always had faith in him. Needs to go on now

Awfully slow but well played by Pakistan so far.

As a lifelong admirer, I'm always happy to see Azhar score runs.

Adil_94 The Immortal Cha Cha Cricket running wild :))) man, he got more energy then Ric even at that age. He could probably run faster then Big Nas

English players look visibly shaken. They know that currently the match is out of their hands. We at home are loving this. Haha.

that 5 did justice to Finns rubbish bowling. Now his figures are slightly more accurate

Congrats to Azhar for his 50, shouldn't throw it away and go for 100.

Fielders on the boundaries. Like they say in urdu ' Khof kei sayee mandala rahay hain angreezun par'

Mark Wood on fire for Durham, Finn needs to do something this test or he'll probably find himself replaced.

We all have ulterior motives. As a lifelong hater of Younis Khan, I'm always delighted to see him fail.

You rather have pak lose then younis score a big hundred to win the game for his country?

Me too always happy to see azhar ali score runs....he is actually the difference between batsmen like UA.. who had talent but not enough hardwork... whereas Azhar ali not talented but with sheer hardwork he is up there fighting it out..

The thing with Pakistan is, they could even collapse from a position like this :))

Full credit to this fabulous partnership but RR is a bit too slow, I guess. Should be somewhere above 3.0.

Hopefully these 2 can maintain 3 and above now since they look more comfortable and set.

Look Woakes is back, don't throw wicket in his first over!!!

Rambo is cringey at times but he's the best commie we have. Amir Sohail is the commie for Channel 5 he isn't bad either.

I don't think they are showing it on channel 5 or are they ??

yup could lose quick wickets and you never know..

How many posters on here complaining about the run rate?

I would like us to bat a little quicker. all it takes is one good spell and we could be 120-4 I'd prefer if we were on 130 by now.

Azhar's 50 was ugly and scratchy but credit where it is due that he finally scored something. Still nothing innings on a broader perspective. I am deliberately being harsh because after every few fail innings, the player performs in one and then gets a ticket to fail in the next matches again. Repeat loop. I absolutely abhor this. Hopefully, other pakistani fans would be keeping an eye out for this as well.

Attritional cricket at its best.

Pakistani batsmen are grinding the English bowlers down, slowly but steadily.

Need to be double this score by the time the second new ball comes round.. Don't want to be sub-200 with the new ball in Anderson and Broad's hands..

I guess the plan is to bat big and bat once and make crying babies like anderson field for 2 days.

Slow but considering Younis not looking that great and Misbah inconsistency

Its better for it to be like this

Hafeez so needs to be dropped
Babar/Iftikhar should replace him

Don't think much of rizwan

Hope samI gets his 50

What's the reason now that UK's 2nd largest metro doesn't have a single club in PL? Villa & City are in Championship, Coventry already there for last decade, Wolves may improve with the new owner but still 2 years & Walsall is probably in Div 3. Not much talent coming either - either it's coming mostly from greater London or Greater Manchester/Merseyside.

It's entirely down to history. Aston Villa, Birmingham City, West Brom and Wolves have never really been "big" teams and the Midlands has never been viewed as a desirable place to live by the massively overpaid.

English football has mainly been about London and what George Osborne called the Northern Powerhouse, which is effectively one supercity stretching from Liverpool in the west through Manchester and then north to Leeds and east to Sheffield.

I am biased because I'm from Manchester, and I've never viewed Birmingham as the second city because that status is based on population numbers which ignore the Northern Powerhouse reality.

But of course it is why Manchester Airport offers such a wide range of flights whereas Birmingham offers cheap flights to the sun and to the subcontinent via Dubai and not much else.

Manchester - and even Liverpool and Sheffield - have always been bigger cultural capitals than Birmingham and offer super luxury enclaves (like Mottram St Andrew) where footballers' wives will happily live.

In fact, Birmingham is quite comparable to Newcastle and Sunderland.

This isn't some flat wicket where you can just hit through the line. There's plenty of lateral movement in the air and off the seam. These two have batted really well.

No we dont. If you seriously want one of our players to fail then you might as well turn off now. How you can want one of your own to fail and then call yourself a fan is baffling.

Disagree. The pitch is flater than you are making it to be.

Yes it is only flat when we are batting well and it is spitting demons when we are bowling well. Shabash..

I agree they have batted well but I would like us to bat a little quicker.

He is an Akmal fan. So must have been frustated that Azhar is leading the ODI team, and Akmal is nowhere near the side fasihulhaq94

One great quality Sami has which was key to success for many openers is hiding - he is always looking to escape with a single & play from non strikers end. Sehwag was great in it.

Chief Destroyer is right. The wicket isnt that flat. Azhar is our most reliable Test bat and hes showing it. Sami has also batted really well.

This pitch is ridiculously flat, a brilliant bowling performance yesterday. We should be able to post 450 relatively easily.

Hes claiming lateral movement which is un-true. The pitch is easier to bat and yes our batsmen are playing well too otherwise they could have easily gifted their wicket like hafeez on a harmless ball.
