England v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Birmingham | Aug 3-7, 2016 | Day 2

If we are 200/1 England will be looking down the barrel of the gun..

He frustrated the pommies a lot.

This pitch is ridiculously flat, a brilliant bowling performance yesterday. We should be able to post 450 relatively easily.

I don't think it's flat. Just not enough intensity from England. I can guarantee we will knock them over if we score greater than 400

Yes it is only flat when we are batting well and it is spitting demons when we are bowling well. Shabash..
English batted really badly in the first innings. You cannot deny this. Obviously, SK bowling with a good line and length played the main role in their downfall. Keeping things tight helps.

It's entirely down to history. Aston Villa, Birmingham City, West Brom and Wolves have never really been "big" teams and the Midlands has never been viewed as a desirable place to live by the massively overpaid.

English football has mainly been about London and what George Osborne called the Northern Powerhouse, which is effectively one supercity stretching from Liverpool in the west through Manchester and then north to Leeds and east to Sheffield.

I am biased because I'm from Manchester, and I've never viewed Birmingham as the second city because that status is based on population numbers which ignore the Northern Powerhouse reality.

But of course it is why Manchester Airport offers such a wide range of flights whereas Birmingham offers cheap flights to the sun and to the subcontinent via Dubai and not much else.

Manchester - and even Liverpool and Sheffield - have always been bigger cultural capitals than Birmingham and offer super luxury enclaves (like Mottram St Andrew) where footballers' wives will happily live.

In fact, Birmingham is quite comparable to Newcastle and Sunderland.

But, at one point Villa was most successful English club (albeit in 1910 or so). I do believe it's the quality of life in West Midlands that investors & top players don't want to live there. Apart from Leicester (that too after winning EPL probably at 1-5000 odds), there is no big club in whole middle section of England.

Even Salford has one ..............

I streamed a bit now and watched and I saw some solid batting from Pak.

More than the score, the way they have come back from last game is commendable.

England might be jittery now if wickets don't fall.

One great quality Sami has which was key to success for many openers is hiding - he is always looking to escape with a single & play from non strikers end. Sehwag was great in it.
Way better than shan hack masood.

Sami's timing has been his weak point so far. But I guess that may be because he's a little tentative.

biggest drama queen and only second to botham and vaughan when it comes to whining. someone should ask him what happened to him in the middle of ashes when he was in hurry to run away?

A little bit of Dean Elgar in the way Sami Aslam bats. Neither are perfect but Elgar is very resilient too.

commies are saying pitch has flattened out ball is swinging a little. But the pitch doesn't have any demons in it atm.

It's not a green seamer by any means but the ball has seamed and swung. Obviously as the ball gets older, that will reduce.

No question about that. He has improved his game since last time I saw him, while Ahmed, sorry Shaan has regressed, that's the big difference. :(

There is nothing better than a left-right opening combination & the selection rule should be the best available lefti & right-handed opener to play; or both lefti, but never both right handers.

Azhar HAS to open in Test cricket. He is the best batsman for the opening role in the entire country

Last 10 we have scored at nearly 3. I don't get this crying about run rate..

How can shan regress when he was awful since the start? You are a funny guy. :)

Do Pakistani fans have anything else to do other than crying and whining 24/7?

This is Test cricket & you shouldn't be following this format if you don't have the patience for it

Better option for some would be to follow T20 leagues where they can watch their favorite players hit Chakkas and Chaukas!

Swan is the worst commentator in the history of cricket

It looks like a long time ago when 2 of our batsmen from top 3 scored 50s in same innings :D

Had my doubts about Sami Aslam, but a brilliant fifty in his very first match in tough conditions. Hats off to the boy.

Well played Sami, first 50 by a pak opener this series well done

Well played Sami...I did say i will always take an ugly, hard fought and gritty 50 over the so called aesthetically looking batsman who make quick 10 or 20 odd runs and then back in the pavilion in no time...

It seems that every time I have seen Finn, he is bowling rubbish. Although he looks quite good on YouTube

Well done sami. Always supported your selection over the likes of shan and hafeez (who some delusionals call the best opener of Pakistan LOL).

If this hurts Cook, I wonder what he'll do when he is facing 8-2 or 9-1 sort of hammering in next one year in India & Australia.

I have bradford is quite awful, actually.

Bradford suffers from a lack of investment it's like many post-industrial northern towns that suffers from this malaise
