I don't know if this is true but tbh think hafeez is happy to bat anywhere. I dont want him to bat 6 in tests as we have a lot of middle order talent even if I suspect he will perform better. In terms of openers though we don't have much. Now that Sami and Azhar look good i support him being out of the team. I wouldn't want him at 6. Question is more is our best emerging batting talent at 6? I'm ready to give iftikhar a chance but a bit unsure when you have guys like Babar, fawad , umar akmal, Haris sohail etc around. I imagine a coach would think similar, is it worth playing hafeez at 6 for the sake of the future?

PAK doesn't pick players for a batting position, apart from openers. But, actually No. 3 & 6 are as specialist position as opening pair. May be, this is due to the floating batting position for players in different teams for what ever domestics they play. In fact, a PAK top player, plays at least for 3 different teams in a FC season, which often doesn't help them settling in a particular spot.

No. 6 is a unique spot, where the players should be good against spin but should be ready to take the new bakll as well; because often, when No. 6 comes to bat, the 2nd ball is on. In AUS/ENG & SAF; they actually uses a specialist No. 6 - players that has batted at 5 or 6 in domestics as well. MoHa with his LO batting skills in top 3, was a decent prospect for Test No. 6. Besides, you need a good hitter at 6, because often he runs out of partners & need to accelerate from one end.

4, 5, 6 I don't mind; but any Cricket team with good understanding of Test batting philosophy won't put MoHa as opener, even in Asia as well. He is a sitting duck when it comes to playing moving ball.

Iftekhar is a nothing cricketer. My best wishes for him on his debut; but he has shown his bowling skills already & I hope he doesn't come to bat at the 85th over. These are absolute meaningless selections - he made his name in List A & T20 cricket (Average of 34, 32 & 31 in FC, List A & T20 should be indicative enough which is his best format), so befittingly they have debuted him in a Series decider on the truest of English wickets. Besides, this guy was 25 years 344 days old at least 5 to 6 years back.
