The Yorkshire CCC needs revenue - we are skint - so I wouldn't be surprised if they produced a Chief Executive Pitch to ensure 5 days of revenue.

The Weather at the Real Home of Cricket, Headingley, is set fair(ish). Toss in 45 mins.

Vaughan just noticed you can get breakfast and a coffee in Headingley for £3.75 - same thing would cost you a tenner down south in London at those posh nancy places.

Remember the Yorkshire Motto:

'Ear all, see all, say nowt;
Eyt all, sup all, pay nowt;
And if ivver tha does owt fer nowt -
Allus do it fer thissen.

And a trip to the loo on numerous occasions throughout the day.

I'd have thought that the home of cricket would hold big test matches.

LOL @ real home of cricket anyway atmosphere is muggy expecting ball to do a bit today.

One of the few grounds in england where we always see positive results so hopefully we will see one in this test!

I hope it goes to day 5 so I can get a cheap ticket and see the game end. I'm not opening my wallet on days 1 to 4 at them prices!

Serious question.

How does the ECB expect cricket to survive with expensive tickets and no free to air telecasts?

Sky Sports revenue. Every time they sign a new TV deal with Sky the revenue they get increases about five times faster than inflation.

They make their money that way.

I like Bell. He gets his 45 runs an innings with less drama than KP gets his 47 runs an innings.

England win the toss and decide to field. Clouds above.

SL one change Prasad replaces Kulasekera

England as is, Lords.

I bet Herath takes some wickets. Or "the little fat lad" as David "Bumble" Lloyd calls him.

Cloud cover could be 100% and the ball will still not swing.

But it's muggy so Anderson should be bowling boomerangs.

England still should have batted.

With what anderson did to them on the last day at lords i think england had to bowl first in these conditions, there is a small chance they get through it first up and the sun comes out then it's a belter but this seems the right move to me.

Its not that cloudy overhead, but expect the bowlers to shape it about.

Broad's first ball nipping away.....Tough first hour ahead.

As I type Silva drives for the 1st boundary of the day

Broad shapes the last one away of his 1st over - good over despite 2 boundaries.

30 mins of play gone, and some playing and missing, but no major scare for the visitors.

Ground is barely 50% full from my view.

Looks an even contest between bat and ball

Silva wrapped on the pads, missing the stump from first view - England don't review and replay shows would have had a wicket if reviewed...Silva on 10....

Surprised by that one, live it looked like it might have been clipping at best.

Press boys not happy the review wasn't taken.

A boundary from the outside edge, moves the score to 24/0 in 9 and both men to 10 a piece.

Kuranaratne gets 4 with one that takes the shoulder of his edge and over Cook at slip

Right on drinks, a wicket falls.

Silva ct Prior b Anderson 20

Anderson into the 8th over of his spell thus far.

Sanga facing - just 11359 Test runs under his belt.

Umpires cant count - Jordan gives the ball back.

Moeen Ali runs back down to fine leg, after making the trek up the ground....

Run out chance missed.....Sanga strides near half way down the track and the shy misses with Prior unable to get there quick enough,

50 up with a driven boundary from Sanga in the 20th over

Not as difficult as I thought it would, decent movement but pitch doesn't have a lot of life so not massive bounce.

SL need to post a score in excess of 350 and they have a chance.

Plunkett replacing Anderson.

Plunkett went off earlier as his chase in the first few minutes of the game saw him need some treatment and his protected arm. His first ball is sent to the boundary. Second ball from wide of the stumps sends the leg stump out of the ground.

Anderson spell 10-4-16-1

Karunaratne 28 - 65 balls - 90 minutes 4x4
Sri Lanka 56/2

FTB Jaya coming out to the crease

I don't like these no ball checks when he is 6 inches behind the line. It takes drama away. I don't mind it for borderlines.

Jaya away with a single off the outside edge down to third man.

We thought he may have cut the line but was fine, even with his angle form wide of the stumps, Mark.

harris got checked nearly every wicket in the ashes and he was about a foot behind most times, don't think the umps really watch the front foot much now they just check certain bowlers after a wicket.

They likely miss some no balls which aren't checked as they weren't wicket taking balls.

Jaya's first boundary. Ten minutes before lunch interval.

Suns now beaming down and clouds are much less than earlier.....

Last over before lunch from Plunkett.
Round the wicket to attack Jayas body with a 4 - 5 field.

Leg slip, deep square and fine leg stationed, with mid wicket and short leg.

Jaya nearly obliges with a mistimed pull for a single that Bell parries away. Jaya on 5 at the time.

Discussion that 2nd last ball before lunch, England should have procured their 3rd wicket as Sanga was caught behind and no one appealed.

Sanga looking settled now with his 5th shot to the ropes of his innings.

Partnership moves into the 40's.

100 up loss of 2 wickets
205 deliveries
146 minutes aided with 13x4.

100 up for the Lankans. This p'ship will be crucial to post a good total on the board. Sanga as usual looking solid and Jayawardane gradually but surely finding a bit of touch.

Dropped Sanga...

PRIOR! :))

What did you just do... absolute kiddish stuff from him.

Prior drops a sitter - Sanga dropped on 27. Blames it on the sun....

At 100-2 Chef is looking a bit silly for putting them in. I can see us losing this. ENG had better bat big in their first innings else get skittled by Herath in the fourth.

Bat first, always, always, always.

Brilliant catch by Jordan at 2nd slip.

Jaya ct Jordan b Plunkett 22 - 47 balls 68 mins
108/3

Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire!

Gone again!

What a ripping first delivery to the new batsman.

Trouble for the visitors...

Thirimanne gets a throat ball and fends to short leg first ball.

Plunkett on home soil on a hat-trick

108/4.

Mid afternoon drinks break - SL 122/4

Sanga 32*
Angelo 11*

Plunkett has taken 3/38

lol, eng cricket team doing well but every1 still crying about those losers in the football.

Hmmmm, 165 for 5........... if they can skittle the tail this will look like a good insertion after all.
