Not sure why people are making such a big thing about umpiring. I mean I understand it's unfair and they should voice their opinions/concerns, but I'd be pretty giddy if I was a Aussie fan right now :)). 207/3. That's fantastic. Bet any aussie fan would have taken that with some dodgy UDRS decisions at the start of the day.

Was a good move to bring Warner back, but I would have stuck with Hughes. 3 centuries, 7 half centuries after 26 games. Not bad. Just has a habit of either going early very cheaply, or when he gets past that usually scores big, as it's difficult to get him out. Down the order was the way to go with him I think. Least he has the temperament to score big and is good when he gets going. Khawja's like the complete opposite.

Australia look in command here, but last 5-10 overs a day sometimes create the biggest drama.

Remember STeve Smith's 2 wickets out of no where!

I think Aus will score around 450 and England close about.....Looking like a draw.. flat pitch and rain also in between

Bye bye England . 246 for 3 . La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah .

100 for Michael Bradman that's half the job done

If Aus get 400, Eng will close out the lead. If Aus get 500, they will put enough pressure to secure a win.

Good knock by Smith btw. Got lucky but he has hung in there well.

When Rogers and Watson put 70 odd for the 1st wicket, couple that with Rogers scoring 80+ at almost a runner ball.
No suprise to see Clarke making a ton.

(and 50 for Smith.. oh well)

But its good to see Australia showing a bit of guts irrespective of the pitch.

A score of 500+ will put England under scoreboard pressure.
450 will make them feel "so-so" and within a chance

The scoreboard doesn't tell you every thing bru. Bowlers have had their fair share.

450 sounds good :warne

Wicket appears very flat, Anderson's figures should tell you that. 450 will be 50-50 for both sides. Bell was already scoring heavily on tougher pitches, without adequate score board pressure we can expect a double ton from one of the English batsmen.

How about that. Well played by Australia. I was asleep during the whole thing. Any assessment on the pitch? Oh well. The bowlers were poor today but they usually are digging England out of trouble. Now it is time for Cook and Trott to step up.

Well played aussies, for a change !

Track is a real flat ! Too many runs in this pitch :hafeez

Outstanding resistance from Australia today one of their best days of Test cricket in recent memory.

Yeah pretty sure Eng will pile on the runs as well given their big guns are yet to fire in this series. But still quite a bit in it for the bowlers if you bowl in the right areas imo, especially for the spinners. I think Harris would be very handy here because he attacks the stumps. That's the way to go here me thinks. Obviously 500 would be tops for Aus, 450 min from here. Then they can unleash the lion. :warne

Knowing Clarke, he will declare at 500 and not waste time and give drawish chances to England. Swann is again the most successful bowler, and that may not be the best news for Australia.

The best day of the Ashes the Aussies have had so far, taken full advantage on a batting pitch. Smith played a good knock alongside Clarke who just backed up his credentials as being one of the best batsmen in the world.

Good captain's knock from Pup. We needed that badly to be competitive. He just needs to score another 400 to make the game safe for us IMO.

As for the technology, there can be no blaming Australia for using in wrong in this case. I think that it needs to be made clear what criteria is required for either upholding or overturning decisions. I still think the technology is right, as it proved in that case. What is not clear is what criteria they are using to overturn umpiring decisions. Or was that Dharmasena was in the toilet when that replay was happening?

Warne is saying "there needs to be comprehensive evidence" to overturn a decision. What does "comprehensive" mean? It can mean different things to different people.

Thankfully England have got shafted too. But none of it should really be happening unless the criteria is made clear. At the end of the day all we are doing is transferring human error off the pitch and into the viewing room.

A few people gleeful that Australia have actually done well for once. Both sides have to bat yet.

We can afford a dull 500 plays 500 draw on a Chief Executive's Pitch. Australia need to win 3 out of 3.

Australia have almost guaranteed that they won't lose, but England will probably start batting tomorrow evening and with showers forecast will be quite happy to play out the draw.

Congrats to the Aussies anyway. Hopefully we can roar back tomorrow.

Anderson's record in India is pretty good.

lol why congrats? The game has not even been won yet.
Well played would have been sufficient

I think this flat pitch would suit Finn better. He is the only bowler with mongrel in that attack.
Dibbly doblies need to be mixed up with pace and aggression. Bresnan is a joke IMO and is stunting Finn's development.
Yeah sure he has not bowled well of late but if there is no one good enough to replace him, you let him play.
No way he should ever be dropped for Bresnan.

Sir Jimmy's had a good day on a flat track? That's news to me... (check his averages in the SC)

His worst average in the subcontinent over a series has been 30.5 for his last three years. And that was India where he was the best pacer anyways. It was under 30 in the UAE and SL for his last two series as well.

He averages under 30 in India (lower than... say Zaheer as well in India) and the UAE. His only poor country is SL at 40.72.

As far as I can tell, he's not excellent, but he's serviceable in the SC. An overall average of 32.21 in Asia. Not terrible at least.

It isn't world class or good enough for the supposed best either..

I assume then that England are upset over Khawaja's dismissal and have made contact with the ICC then.

England were upset with an lbw decision given out on review by third umpire Marais Erasmus and have made contact with Madugalle and his ICC employers to seek clarification over the DRS process
