Normal service resumes, India are being smashed here :ibutt

Gavaskar whining. Oh God, somebody get him a tissue.

Some whining by Gavasker.."Indians always expected to do everything''

Gavaskar crying in the commentary box now.

***? India withdrew their appeal? That's absolutely stupid. If they lose the game and series and world ranking, this will be what comes back and bites them in the butt.

All the Indian fans who supported Dhoni in appealing, don't you think this is being overly sentimental? He should be trying to win the match for his country. This would have been epic.

yeah WTeff. moronic by Indian team. I doubt any team, especially England, would have recalled the batsman.

Dhoni chickened out is what I'd say

He is questioning why England players didn't applaud Dravid's hundred. He goes and says people only want India to show sportsmanship

Indians on Twitter going CRAZY over the decision to call back Bell!!

Calling Dhoni names and asking him to grow some balls!

Oh lord who is this biased Star commentator ?

Talking about DRS and utopia.

Dhoni just dropped the number 1 ranking :)))

Prior in next. Not unreal to expect England could have been out for a lead of 210-20

Cowardice? Possibly the bravest thing Dhoni could've done.

What's he saying? Dhoni shouldn't have called him back?

Gave the example of Dravid's century. ''Look at how many people applauded him. Anderson just standing there, Prior waiting to collect the ball. You talk about being sporty, it's the Indians always expected to be sporty'...blah blah' :)))

And we won respect from millions of Cricket fans ..The greatest captain after Imran Khan from the subcontinent

Think we all respected him already :)

Tendulker on the other hand......

Another update, reportedly from Jonathan Aggers on TMS: Strauss and Flower went to the Indian dressing room at tea and asked Dhoni if he would withdraw the appeal. And Dhoni consented. The umpires did not have a part to play in it.

Cricinfo

Morgan is class! no doubt about that! I am already looking forward to the ODIs. He'll show them there as well!

:four more for Bell.

It seems that decision has killed of the rest of the team.

Dhoni and Sree affected by the overturn it seems.

I hope when the time comes Strauss also show sportsmanship but i dont expect it.

There is such a stark contrast between the Star Sports commentators and the Sky Sports commentators.

Lead now 220.

It's a matter of principle ... if you supported Inzi staying off at the Oval in 06 you should by association support Dhoni withdrawing his appeal.

Let me first say I respect the PP'ers here who criticized the run-out as in bad spirit first, and then praised the Indian for calling Bell back. That is consistent and fair. I suspect several Indian fans and commentators who were defending Dhoni for the initial appeal, might have been up in arms if they'd been on the receiving end.

I don't compare it with 2006. Inzi stayed off in 2006 because of the insult to his country. Dhoni withdrew his appeal because of "spirit of the game", and not hurting feelings.

Depends on priorities and definition of "spirit" - I think if you don't abuse players' families with obscenity, don't lie about bump catches, don't show dissent, and play hard but within the rules of the game - that is enough "spirit" of the game. It should be about winning series and being the best in the world. I respect people who have different priorities, but if it's my team, I'd rather they be winners than popular.

It will be hilarious if it turns out that the umpires reversed their decision, not Dhoini and all the Indian fans praising Dhoni for doing the sporting thing suddenly start screaming foul :).

SOSAMI from Trentbridge says that Indian fans not happy with Dhonis decision - saying that he only cares about his image (thus recalled Bell)

Ouch.....

I guess its that saying. People only give charity to make themselves feel better. So they are really just selfish.

Simple point is...he still did it, at the risk of losing the match.

It seems the crowd has gone quiet

PP gone quiet

Everyone a bit embarrased eh? :

Keep the World number 1 ranking; people respect winners more. The only exception is in case of cheating/ dishonesty - this wasn't.

India was going to Lose this match and the series anyway. The Bell decision would not make any difference.

It will just give all Indians another opportunity to play the Victim card once again.

And that makes it more commendable? He should only care if the Indian fans feel he's doing his best (without cheating) to win them games, if he cares about anyone at all.

Has the track gone flat or what? Indians being demolished, if the new ball does nothing England will be batting until Tea tomorow.

Hey hey, I'm Pakistani.

Got the victim mentality and all. Always involved on the side Bell was on. Always wanted neutral umpires, or DRS or court cases.

So yea, I think Dhoni did the right thing.

Now if you ask an Australia, or Indian, or West Indian, or neutral English, they would probably agree with you. Opinions.

Oh my my! :))) :)))

Hopefully Nasser Hussein will console him. :P

EXACTLY!

Why people are saying that he "chickened" out is beyond me! :20:

because news is that Flower & Strauss went to Dhoni and asked (indians read 'demanded') that if Bell was being called back...

They think he did it to save his own face and took the 'easy' way out by not persisting with the original decision
