England vs India | 4th Test | Southampton | August 30-September 3, 2018 | Day 3 Thread

Beautiful bowling India have been unlucky so many plays and misses. India have deffo outbowled England last two matches they are utilising the conditions much better. If it wasn't for moeen in India would've won this game already

India threw the game away on two occasions. First innings against Ali and Curran.

And again yesterday, gave up the initiative by being reckless against Moeen. They had to bat through till Day 3. Pujara and Kohli showed it was possible.

Ashwin, for all the talk of being smart, thinking etc., played a ridiculous shot to Moeen yesterday, and has been ineffective today. Needs to look at himself.

Now behind, and will probably lose the game and series. No ones fault but theirs. Been on top at several key points in this test, and at Edgbaston too, but failed to make it count.

By the way, whats happened to Pandya.

Whatever be the outcome of this game and series, I have no doubt India is the better side. Batsmen playing in familiar conditions at home should do better, but England struggle to make 400 or even 300 runs. In comparison in India we had a score of 759 against England!

Can't keep being unlucky.

Ishant and Bumrah in particular keep beating the edge, but not finding it. Why? Cause they need to push it fuller. Ashwin can't build any pressure, doesn't seem to have a plan.

Moeen didnt even bowl that well. India's lower order were reckless.

He is imparting very little body in his balls.

The split screen comparison of his action in 1st vs 4th test is staggering.

Why did the team management not pick Jaddu?

Moeen Ali is gonna be a monster here. lol.

He needs to hit the pitch harder. Moeen was hitting the pitch harder and was extracting a lot more of side spin, Ashwin is getting more of top spin.

If India were truly the better side, they would win the test.

No point winning 'moments' and just competing. At the end of the day, you have to win.

They are bowling full hence the plays and close misses. Any fuller and it's going to the boundary. However both teams have been reckless in this series seems they are both trying their both to lose especially England with their selection blunders.

Jaddu isnt rated by Kohli I think.Even Kuldeep played ahead of him

Ashwin clearly hasn't recovered fully going by the action. That fizz off the track isn't there

England beat India 2-1 in India

If he was not fit, he should have been dropped.

Australians can also say the same that they were the better side when they toured India last time.

They were. That was the best series Australia had in India since 2004.

Going 1-1 into the final of a 4 test series in India is a huge achievement.

But yes, at the end of the day a win is a win and a loss is a loss. Whether it's Australia or India.

This has got to be one of the worst batting sides England have produced since I have been watching the game. No one seems settled, no one seems to want to play a long innings. Credit to India although England at home should be putting up a lot more runs then a paltry 125 for the loss of five so called top order batsmen.

As an Indian fan, I can see where this match is heading,we are a good team much better than Dhonis 11 in tests but we make mistakes that cost us matches, probably going to underachieve in tests.

Big question for England is that whether they can bat out this session ? That will be critical.

At this stage yesterday, India were in a similar position, and Moeen took the game away.

India need someone to stand up and do the same. All eyes on Ashwin.

See, I agree, and think India should be happy with that. Much better than 2011 and 2014. Not a perfect team. Batting is flawed, and bowlers, though much improved, have some way to go too. They look better than they are due to England's ineptness...

See, for a great test team, Australia in the 2000s are the standards. India are not there yet....

Er..I have never claimed India is better than Aus or Windies, this Indian team is still not better than Indian test team from 2007-2011 but it's a good progress and we haven't given up given up like in Dhoni's era.

You are underestimating Ashwin value in the team.

I am not.

He isn't bowling well today.

Last over. 1 good delivery. Almost got Buttler out.

Followed by 5 average ones.

Probably he hasn't recovered from injury.

Whatever it is, this is poor bowling on a helpful pitch.

Not saying that you have...just happened to quote you to make a point. Apologies.

There were several fans on here after Day 1, proclaiming how good the Indian team is, particularly the bowlers - 'best pace unit in the world' apparently.

My point was that India have improved, the bowling especially, but have a long way to go as a test team. The performance over the last 2 and a bit days just goes to underline this.

India letting the game drift here....a shame. Have performed well for 2 out of 3 sessions every day, but let themselves down after tea.

Y'day when Ishant and Bhumra were batting, none of them were not even getting beaten much. There was no movement or anything from the pitch. I think we have entered the same zone now. When the ball is 60+ overs old, it seems like it does absolutely nothing.

Good batting by england. They are crawling towards 200 and should target at least 250+ lead from now on.

Ashwin has struggled this series after the first test, looked clueless and experimented too much. Kohli should take him off and bring Ishant on

I think England should win from here, nothing much happening off the pitch.
Ashwin blew this!

Poor captaincy from Kohli.

With the new batsman in he should have immediately removed Hardik and brought Shami on.

Indian bowler bowling well here , wicket can come anytime. Poms need to get some quick runs quickly before that ball comes along.

England need 250+, anything less is 50/50 and if they get 180 or below advantage India.

Another 50 runs here and a 200 lead and england should have enough runs as india will probably bottle another run chase.

Shami and Ishant need to bowl now. Ishant to control the run flow and Shami to go all out.

Curran can bat so buttler should keep playing normally and only open up if a wicket falls.

There is nothing in this pitch for the fast bowlers, the ball is hardly carrying to the slips now. England cannot depend on Moeen Ali to bowl India out on his own, they need 250 to be confident of winning. Anything less than that should leave India as favourites.

If we play off Ali, we are in for a chance.

Might be nothing in it for seamers but current indian team have been shown to be poor chasers under pressure away from home in recent times.

New ball due in 5 overs. That should help get a couple of quick wickets.

India still with a chance of restricting the lead to 200.
