What's new

England vs India | 4th Test | Southampton | August 30-September 3, 2018 | Day 3 Thread

Awful stuff from Ashwin

Hasn't even been able to nail down a length

To be honest, the answer is as simple as how well Kohli bats tomorrow. Moreover, I think India's strategy should be to score quickly off the new ball as it will be desperately hard work getting runs when the ball gets soft.

It's actually a lot easier to bat against the old ball. Much less movement for pacers and less bounce and bite for spinners.

India are bowling tight lines and not letting England score freely.

Before the series started I said R Ashwin and H Pandya should not be in the test squad and I have been proven right yet again. Rahul is another one, absolute waste of time. I reckon Hafeez is more capable test player than K Rahul.

Think the match is out of India's hands now. These two could well add another 100 here

Are you kidding ?

Hafeez can never come within light years of Rahul.

Rahul has done nothing which Hafeez hasn't done in tests and Hafeez bowled too. Potential wise Rahul may be ahead, but on current performance, Hafeez edges out Rahul

40 easy runs for these batsmen.

Annoys me even though I want India to lose. Pathetic to let it drift

New ball due and Kohli still continuing with Pandya with the old ball.

What exactly is his plan?

I wasn't talking about surviving against the old ball. Anderson and Broad will look to bowl dry with the old ball and it will be hard work scoring runs against them. This pitch has died down appreciably today so the fast bowlers will have to bend their backs to get any assistance even with the new ball. It's not exactly England's forte.

The series is on the line, India must make the most of the new ball.

England would love to bat for at least an hour tomorrow.

***. Why Ashwin.Bowl the pacers you saved for new ball dumbo

Over rate. I've said it three times now. This is how arrogant Kohli is. He thinks him not being in the fifth test is a bigger loss than actually losing

England have found a really good all rounder in Sam Bhai . Great future ahead

India have had chances all series and should be now looking at taking a 4-0 lead after this match. Reality could be a 3-1 loss due to being a bunch of bottlers.

Curran is a best example of an allrounder. He is contributing both with bat and ball consistently. Not like Pandya who performs once in every 6 innings.

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right

what that music the band is playing?
i think it is the beatles

This is why a good Test is so fascinating to follow. This game has gone so many ups & downs that I am sure drama hasn't ended here. Another 75, POMs'll be firm favorite, while if IND can clean the tail with new ball for a target around 225, they have a good chance.

yep watching live first time this series

very engrossing

Lead past 200 with England's best batsmen this series at the crease, and a few potential annoying runs from Rashid as well. Kohli's captaincy is selfish.

Really? Rahul averages 29.88 in 15 away tests. I am not holding my breath for this stinking record.

If you look at stats only , there will be many better players than Richards.

You can ask anyone Rahul is much better player than hafeez can dream of.

It’s over Jim for India.

We are not scoring these runs.

Expect the likes of Rahul, Pujara and Rahane fail miserably in 2 nd innings.

Karun Nair scored a triple ton in India, to perform at home isn't equivalent to performing away, if Curran gets a fifer in India we will give him that.

nahhh

If lead gets to 275+ then yeah India is outta the game

These 1st inns scores, as we saw at Edgbaston, make for better contests. Every run counts with batsmen only of the highest calibre being able to score that one standout century (Kohli at Edgbaston, Pujara here).

The recent WI-SL and SAF-IND series was another example of close contests between bat and ball producing interesting Test cricket.

Instead we're treated to Test matches in places like Australia every year where the ball doesn't swing an inch after 15 overs and even Mitch Marsh is slamming 150 for fun.

Sam Curran is a great find for England. Such confidence at this age is brilliant.

Now it’s very hard for India, 250 here is like 350, chasing that many will be very hard.

Ashwin has to be blamed the most, he did not bowl well at all. Conditions are spin friendly, he cannot flight, cannot use rough, really poor show 😾😾

Get around 250 and England may just have *a* chance. Even that may not be enough though.

This winter will be unbearable with Warner and Smith out of the team. Those infernal drop-in pitches will be dead even before a ball is bowled in anger. Add to that the joys of the kookaburra ball.

You guys are missing the point here. The keyword here is consistency. Do you think Pandya can take wickets in India and score runs consistently too?

When you are in good form you should make good use of it. Ofcourse he hasn't played outside England but look at his age and performance against the number 1 ranked test team. If England wins this series then the credit should go to a debutant Sam Curran.

India is already out of the match.

No way they r gonna get past 120 in the 4th innings.

Kohli just keeps getting new all-time-lows as a captain, doesn’t he? Just boggles my mind..

"@ Bob, With the wicket slowly turning out to be a batters paradise, 250 would be an easy chase for India and 300 as 50:50 chance," declares Rakesh Sampat. "350 would be a tough ask here and anything above 400 could be considered a 80:20 England chance. 450 & above, England will win handsomely."

India miss Sehwag badly in these situations. His quick fire 50-60 used to shift the game in India's favour while chasing totals like these.

Must say Ashwin has lost us the game today. Dare I say if it had been jadeja, India might have won the game
