England vs India | 4th Test | The Oval | Aug 18-22 | Day 3

Stumps.

So England go to 591/6 declared in 153 overs, yet India have lost 5 wickets for 103 in 33 overs? Pathetic.

India getting thrashed as usual.

Another day at the office..

Been saying that Swann will cause problems here since the Lord's test. Everything is completely in his favour but he still had to bowl well. Always been a good ground for him. It's been a poor series for him but news of his demise has been exaggerated.

I liked that last shot :afridi

Offense is the best defense.

Play some brute shots and scare the close in fielders.

Raina is a jackass. His natural game is to attack like KP.

You never see KP playing ultra defensively. The reason is he will get out by playing too many dot balls.

Swann again was average.

Tendu gifted his wicket and Raina's was an iffy decision.

Sharma is a tailender.

Swann has been as good as Raina with the ball in this series.

Swann also had the luxury of bowling to batsmen who are under pressure.

Eh. Wickets are wickets which is why good bowlers take them and Indian bowlers don't.

can England pick up 15 wickets tomorrow or will India survive 90 overs?

98 overs, extra overs due to rain. 96 if innings change.

If England maintain their pace, meaning they take 5 wickets in 31 overs (that's how many it took today), it would take them 93 overs to get 15 wickets.

Unless it rains England will win. No way India could survive 190 overs.

Extra over added, great news. Now I am certain Match will be over tomorrow.

It would be handy to get an extra day of rest in. I always fancied India for the ODIs but I don't think they're up to it mentally. We should try and smash those as well.

One series will not make jokers out of Laxi, Tendu, Sehwag and Gambit.

Jokers are those who fail in multiple series and stil get picked in the side :kami

Ok not jokers then. What do multiple failures in the same series when your team needs you to perform make them then ,top class perfomers ? :p

There's always overs added if there's loss of play.

I'm not sure, but the additional 30 minutes could have been taken if victory was at hand that day as well.

On another note. I hope Broad or another Bowler get the MotS this time. Broady very clearly it for me atm, and only thing that can change that is if Jimmy gets a 10-fer (unlikely) and goes to 28 for the series. It'd be a travesty if one of the Batsmen were to pick up the MotS for filling their boots against this attack.

And Dravid for India. Only one consistently trying to save India from ignominy.

Stuart Broad for Man of the Series. Anderson ran through the top order twice but this is still by a mile. Broad grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck when the England bowlers were looking overawed at Lord's, and England would certainly have lost at Trent Bridge without his brilliant all-round performance. Things could have been very different in this series if Broad had not been around, which a month ago looked a real possibility.

What was Raina doing?? He just went into a shell and it was a matter of time before he was going to get out. Should have been attacking Swann.

392 to avoid the follow-on.

I think India will make 200 and then be bowled out again by the end of the game. Any small total should be knocked off by England with ease.

Whitewash.

Swann is a very good bowler to left-handers, particularly average left-handers.

The bowling never gets the credit in situations like this, and maybe it should.

cricinfo comment sums it up:

"Yet another day when England were all over India. Is this the most humiliating series for a top Test team ever? Soon after England racked up nearly 600, India's batsmen, barring the brilliant Rahul Dravid, flopped for the seventh time in this series. Every over England bowled, they seemed to be close calls for the Indian batsmen, unlike yesterday when Bell and KP absolutely toyed with the attack. India finish the day 488 behind."

The saying goes like this "one match will not make a joker...."

One odi series = multiple matches

One test match series (4 matches) is equivalent to more then 8 ODI matches (two innings / test match)

So if you fail in a test match series like this..you sir officially, fully, completely, "100 percent-ly" qualify as a JOKER

Raina was doing this

If I said he was going to get out sooner or later, I think it was based on the presumption that the bowling was good enough and would have gotten him out.

If Raina had done the same playing against Indian bowlers, I wouldn't have said that.

The ball that dismissed Raina, and the athletic stumping from Matt Prior, made for an excellent piece of cricket that other teams would not have been sharp enough to transform into a wicket. Credit to England.

The sharp wicket keeping was not the point (credit to Prior for that still). Even if Prior hadn't gotten that stumping, Raina would have gotten out by the looks of how he was playing the (good) bowling.

I mean I didn't say the same for Dravid right? It's because even if Swann was bowling well, Dravid was playing well enough to not look like a walking wicket. Raina had his own part to play in his dismissal.

Maybe, maybe not. The only thing that can be credibly discussed is what actually happened.

I have seen players have horror starts and get a single off a few dozen balls and make a ton.

Dravid pwns Swann. This has been established.

We either get Dravid early with a seamer or he scores a fifty/a ton. Always been the case.

HOw many overs will there be 2morow? I mean it should be more than 90 because of Rain.-..
Swann need slower to Dravid and spin the bowl.. make him come on the front foot.. Swann has been very avergage vs Dravid

98 without innings change, 96 with.

Guess the wicket wasn't flat after all. :D
