What's new

England vs India | 5th Test | The Oval | September 7-11, 2018 | Day 1 Thread

Wickets are only ensuring that england will win this game and won't end up as draw...It's a no brainer to back england to win moment they decided to bat first, rest all is a procedure...If history tell us anything, then its that home teams batting first just don't loose..It happens 2-3 times in an year that a home team loses a test match batting first..

India have bowled well , they need to finish this , look to wipe out Poms within 250 here

not really that uncommon , Pakistan defeated them easily twice batting second and should perhaps have batted second in the 2nd test earlier .

The toss is just an excuse for the shortcomings.

Sometimes, I really get confused with Kohli's Captaincy - why should he not take the new ball now? This old ball is moving still, but a new ball should move more off the wicket and seem around.

Why take the new ball when you are taking wickets and not giving away runs with the old ball?

He's a very dumb captain.

An excuse used multiple times Pak posters to ridicule India's victory at home.

This is classic England back when Cook used to be a consistently good batsman - once he gets out, a gritty, solid team platform rapidly unravels into a comical collapse

England's best batsman Sam Curran comes to the crease.

All Indian fielders should fall on Curran's feat to get out for a duck for once.

poor from England. But credit to India, they’ve bowled really well.

Why take the new ball when you are taking wickets and not giving away runs with the old ball?

Wicket can come at a frequent rate if Bumrah & Ishant attacks with new ball. Old or new, Poms are not scoring at more than 2.2 in any stage, therefore I don't think new ball should increase scoring rate.

In any case, on this wicket bowling with Jadeja when new ball is due!!!

Wish granted without having to fall at his feet.

Just like all the "It's going to be a bore draw for sure" people, Sam Curhaan has gone. :yk2

Lol India must be kicking themselves. Had they selected properly and batted better would have won this series.

Lol india lost a great chance to win the series . England are nothing batting unit Sam Bhai got them out of jail other all have failed

Adil bhai has his chance to do something in this series, with wrong tool though.

This is what defensive batting gets you. You're always just a couple of wickets away from disaster

Reminds me of the Misbah era in Pakistan

England have batted 84 overs at 2.17 RPO.

Misbah's Pakistan only batted 84 overs or more at a slower run rate than this once ever, 2.15 RPO in the third innings of a match against England that Pakistan won.

The slowest they batted 84+ overs in the first innings was 2.47 RPO and 2.56 RPO, they won both those tests as well.

:salute

ENG lost 6/48 against old ball - definitely it's not easy out there, but could have scored a little faster I believe. It could have been 230 all-out in 80s over then, but not sure if they can reach 230 in 100 overs like this.

How many runs ahead is Kohli than the second highest scorer? He is the only one who has consistently batted well in this series..

86 overs old and the ball is still hooping around like crazy, who needs sandpaper when you have a Dukes ball and a lush outfield? :dw:ssmith

What good are facts when people have their pre-conceived prejudices.

If this innings happened under Misbah's watch, the reaction here would've made the eruption of Mount Vesuvius seem a children's tea party.

Moeen Ali had played and missed or edged 42 balls. It usually takes 14 mistakes on an average to take a wicket. Moeen has been extremely lucky today.

The way ball is swinging, ENG should have picked Woakes, instead of Adil. This game might not last long enough for Adil to come into play.

Best batting wicket of the series- this is what Ithought after the first session. Not to be, massive rough for Moeen on a sluggish pitch.Eng winning with early finish by day 3 is the likely result.

Massive effort from our bowlers though.

In my dream earlier this morning, Cook was out for 72.

In reality, he was out for 71!

As the late Richie Benaud would say, “missed by a whisker”.
