England vs Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's, London | May 24-28, 2018 | Day 1 | Match Thread

This could be a lowish scoring game. Great contest so far.

We always seem to raise our game in England.

When we go to Australia or South Africa we're beaten before we even step foot on the field.

Sky commies are smart. Wasim is a bad commentator in general, but they are making him talking about bowling and bowling plans. And that is one thing you listen to if Wasim is talking.

I was about to say - Wasim isn't our version of Benaud or Cozier but at least he'll provide bowling insights which is better than the cliche per minute from Rameez.

This Pakistan attack looks very good, though England gave a couple of wickets away.

Sun’s out.

Come on Chef, come on Son of Bluey.

Ali Stare Cook!

Only Mohammed Amir can dismiss him!!!

Mohammad Amir will bowl Cook!!

Cook is the bunny of Amir!!

Englans miss a trick here.

This is Jimmy's favorite hunting ground, should've bowled.

That said, all credit to Pak pacers. Get a couple more! :sarf

watching this game makes me wonder how lucky someone like Anderson is

Absolutely agree. And unlike Rameez, he actually commands respect from the Sky pundits.

Consider that once these two bowlers go off, Aamir and Abbas follow, there’s no relief for England in the current situation

Think Faheem needs a break..I would bring in shadab for a few overs..or give amir another burst before lunch.

Need to get Cook out as hes getting a little anoying now. Hopefully at least 1 more wicket before lunch if not 2

Perhaps Harris Sohail bowling. Barry is a bad spin player!! He will be bowled!!

Think, Mayan selection, while loyal, was misplaced

Agree. To be honest, Malan has always struck me as the archetypal county player...and he got rewarded for that with a call up. But not really cut out of international cricket.

He had one decent series in Australia, where he was made to look better than he is by the failure of all else around him. But whatever 'it' is that you need at the very top, he does not have it.

On the other side of the coin...who else would you bring in?

In any case, its only two tests against Pakistan. Expect him to feast on the Indian bowling later in the summer though.

Cook doing what he does best - keeping the strike and staying in.

I would say the same for Stoneman as well, he is selected because of his better than mediocre winter stats. He has been poor in count cricket this season

nice flatter pitches in summer too so expect him to hit some runs..but I just dont see any real talent knocking on the door yet..can anybody confirm who is high on the county to england list atm?

Salam PP'ers

Seems like boys played well type scene is ongoing :inzi2

RIP England :sarf2

Still surprise that Hassan Ali has moved the ball most in this attack.
Aamir the poorest this session

Rory Burns and Liam Livingstone would most likely be the next cabs off the rank.

England have never really replaced Strauss, Trott and Pietersen. IIRC they're even worse than us for being three down or more by 100.

Whoever is doing commentary with bumble needs to talk a bit louder

Those three are South African, sort of

He's playing ultra cautiously and well to be fair, very watchful innings. I think he needs a few bouncers mixed in there to get him off the front foot.

When Cook starts playing down the ground, that's when you know this guy is in super touch.

8 fours for Cook that is too many and he has not even made 50 yet.

Quite uncharacteristic of Cook has to be said.

Azhar still in slips though, so we might get a highlight yet :azhar2

Every time they show the slips, I am alarmed at lack of intesity. No clapping on hands or spitting, just stuffed deep in pocket to protest against cold

Cook growing in confidence and close to his fifty.

Need Amir to step up before lunch and break this partnership.

This is what I hate about Sarfaraz and pretty much all other Pakistan captains I have seen before him . . They don't know how to seize a game . .

Someone explain to me, why Faheem Ashraf your 4th/5th bowler has bowled a 6 over spell consecutively on a first morning in an early summer test match in England?! He did his job when he bowled a decent economical 4 over spell . . especially, when 3 wickets had fallen from the other end

Cook needs to be hit on the chest a few times. but this partnership is key..if we can break it we are on the way..if not england will recover and fightback..oh how ive missed test cricket.

because your main spearhead has failed to turn up..so no choice..

Just checked... England still have Stokes, Buttler and Broad to come.... All of whom can score big tons.
