What's new

England vs Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's, London | May 24-28, 2018 | Day 1 | Match Thread

Looks like Pak will have to bat out 25 overs today.

Going to be tricky as the ball is still doing something.

Or maybe...wait for it...our bowling is better than their batting? It's all about matchups and we match up well with their batting.

South Africa’s bowling is better than ours, but England struggles against us more.

Not saying Pak has won......... but some posters here were talking all about big thrashing to Pak and stuff and now they are trying hard to mingle in with the supporters. Irony at its best

People who cricticised Abbas should be humble enough and accept they were wrong. Koi buri baat nahi ismai.. :)

Abbas and Sadaf were criticized for their pace even before they played 1 match. And I see people still doing the same for Sadaf. These guys took wickets all over Pakistan and deserved (in Abbas case) and deserves (in sadaf case) the selection.

Especially our Indian friends said lot of disrespectful stuff about young Pakistani side :)

Ooops.... England miss the 300 mark by 116 runs :broad:

I thought 230 would be an even score for England. So Pakistan is ahead by about 50 runs at this point of the game.

Amir redeems himself with a nice catch.

That's it, England 184 all out. Superb bowling performance.

Opting to bowl was certainly a poor call. England could have rolled us over for 200 here.

Come on man. You need to give some credit to your team. They bowled well and catching was good as well. Eng, I don’t think they lowered the game, they seem to be under pressure though. Def don’t look like a top side.

Suddenly we have to bat and I am starting to feel nervous.

Pak's catching today has been top class.

Overall a great day for Pak. Now their batsmen have to backup the bowling effort. Won't be easy against Anderson with the new ball. Almost 25 overs left to play.

Excellent from the seamers. Good conditions yes but they have still exceeded my expectations. If Misbah was captaining we would have seen a far more defensive and passive approach to aid England's get out of jail card.

Got to leave all those balls offside off. Fortunately, we have Opener Tuck-Tuck and Opener strike rotator to see us off.

Indian fans on this thread:

1. Cook missed a straight ball by Amir
2. Pakistan lucky to be bowling
3. Get ready for Butler to give Pakistan bowlers carnage in the second innings

Look you're entitled to hope for Pakistan's loss but leave out the sour grapes.

Ummmm... I am Indian and don't remember saying any of those things!

It’s a privilege watching the legend that Anderson is. Probably the best sight in Test cricket for me, even though I’m a batting person.

still 30 overs remaining for today; Pakistan should not play positive

An excellent selection...or was this another case of PSL making the job easier for selectors :))

We have seen the gem of PSL --- Rahat the Destroyer Ali. Am sure England are happy that Rahat Ali is not playing otherwise ................

it's the batting that is worry

I really cant see Babar/Sohail/Sarfraz performing

if we do make a good score

it will be the bowlers who add the runs on the board
i have no faith in the batsman

Arsenal fans are deluded, and in the end the result after 5 days matters. Yes Pakistan have done very well so far but our batting isn't any stronger than when we last visited England.

I cant see our batting lasting too long so hope we can get a decent lead ...the ball is gonna do all sorts today!! Allah Khair..

Frankly speaking our batting is not of top notch but am hoping for the best.
It's a life time opportunity for us.

Right, the good thing about dismissing England relatively cheaply is it puts less pressure on our batsmen.

Just limp to 320-350 somehow someway and we'll have a nice, healthy lead to work with.

I'd take a 50/1 at end of day's play. Thank you very much.

England are still a pretty good side irrespective of how they have been thrashed by Aus in recent times.

It was a poor decision to bat first and Pak's strength is bowling. You do not play to oppositions strength by batting in tricky conditions.

Either way, I think England has enough runs on the board. 180 is low score against good batting units. But not against Pak.

This will be a closely fought Test.

They are lucky to be bowling first. Of course they are making full use of the opportunity. Hats of to their bowlers. Pak always perform well in England for some reason.

We also were lucky againist SA to bowl first in 1 st test.Still lost

yes, but no need to be scari...

You didn't but look at the thread history and you'll find all these were said from Indian posters.

Yeah sure... but generalizing to "Indian fans" based on one or two posters is wrong.

Suicidal decision to bat first in these conditions. What was Root thinking?

Who should be #1 if that happens? The #2 Test team lost 3-1 when they played in England last year.

Seriously. If we lose or draw this series against this struggling team, would you not get upset or happy to call our team no 1 still?

A lots of haters are confused about the excuses... fluke, lucky, eng average side, gifted wickets.... keep em coming

Damn, curse you toss. Soon toss rule will be eliminated :( And we won't be having any more flukes then.

I think what happened was when England won the toss Saifi started whispering bat bat bat into Root's ear and due to this subliminal messaging Root said bat first by mistake, what he wanted to say was bowl first :))

Probably to seize a traditional PAK collapse on the 5th day.

Anything over 150 and PAK hasn’t been able to chase in the last two years.

Azhar Mahmood keeps getting bashed as bowling coach - he may not be a big name but he's trained the bowlers excellently here. They've bowled the ideal length for English conditions.

England today is reminiscent of what it was two decades a ago. A crashing giant.

They need a Nasser. Root is a terrific player, but I am unsure about his leadership credentials.
