What's new

England vs Pakistan | 5th ODI | Leeds | May 19th, 2019 | England innings

Captain Fantastic in this series has picked bowling attacks against the most destructive batting unit and #1 ODI team in the world involving:

- A spinner that doesn't turn the ball and an average of 44.
- A Test spinner who doesn't have a googly and averages 96 (NINETY SIX) against top teams with ER of over 6.
- A kid with barely any List A experience and with one half-decent PSL to his name.
- Another kid who is promising but still learning his craft.
- A bowler who is alarmingly regressing after a terrific first year and has let fame go to his head.
- A "pacer" who was finished in 2014.
- A joke of an all-rounder who should be playing club cricket.

Yet this guy was touted as the best Pak captain since Imran Khan ?

No vision, no nous, no sense of planning. He should leave after this World Cup so he can spend more time with his Beef Qorma biriyanis.

i think the english batsmen have gotten bored. root is the only who did not come to the party in the previous matches, hence his form today.

I just don’t get the point of Imad and looks like most people here don’t either..

What is he supposed to be?

Why is Hafeez not bowling?

Not sure whether today has been a better day compared to the other ODIs. We have leaked runs but we’ve also got early wickets.

You haven't even mentioned his tactical genius and his keeping at times.

Also his 40 off 32 was a gem of a knock apparently. :)))

I am yet to see Root ever attack 90mph+ bowling the way Babar took on Wood and Archer the other day, let alone the way he took on Steyn, Rabada and co . in South Africa earlier.

Root may be more of a complete batsman at this stage but saying he's "2 levels above" is just straight sensationalisation.

Hopefully our fans can see now that scores between 340-360 aren’t good enough on these surfaces, so it’s about time all this Bhangra with our “batting is good” stops now. It’s a good top 3 but with a several liabilities down the order including specialist captain.

Even the likes of Bangladesh and SL can score 330+ against this England attack. The par score on these wickets are 400. Until we’re able to reach that kind of total the batting is still weak!

Dil ki baat kah di

I've heard they will pick him without a game, because this attack has been battered to oblivion.

Adult chicken pox, he can't play so early.

They have to go on gut and they will pick him.

Does it affect energy/strength/stamina or just precautionary isolation from contagious germs?

Have you watched the 1st 10 overs here??

Pakistan have literally gifted England at least 60 runs through careless fielding, garbage leg side bowling and awful field placings.

You mean to tell me when IND come up against England they will be thinking of restricting them under 400? They are flat wickets but lets not over-dramatise it. 350 is enough with a strong bowling attack.

Don't see the point of Imad in this team. I'd drop him and play Haris at 4, Hafeez at 5, Asif at 6, and Sarfraz at 7. Hafeez is easily the superior batsman and bowler, plus Haris can also bowl, so there isn't the issue of losing bowling overs and our batting ends up far stronger.

Why would he bother? If he evwr thought that deep he would not be carrying such a big belly as a captain and keeper and fail to dive.

Which is what I have been trying to say. But our levels are so low where it's still acceptable.

Talking as if England haven't gifted Pakistan any runs when they have made the big scores. England have bowled plenty of rubbish balls.

Not sure this game is really proof of that tbh, this has just been rubbish bowling mostly, England batsmen have not had to take undue risks.

Honestly Pakistan should not bother playing more than two pacers. Our seam bowling stocks have not been as low since the 1960s as it is now.

Just pack the team with spinners (proper ones not darter Imad or Yasir). Spinners are matchwinners even outside Asia in ODIs but we're still stuck in 90s pace is pace yaar B.S. mentality.

We all know Babar in not very dynamic but root is not 2 level above Babar in ODI as for as t20 innings is concerned Babar is no1 in the world with 50 average and 125+ strike rate, Babar also score 90+ against SA in SA

Mamoon u were saying Nasser keeps supporting pak now he is starting to hate them lol he’s even dissing Amir and his selection

A Shadab-Hafeez spin combo would give Pakistan a lot of breathing room, both of them are capable of tightening the screws in the middle overs, and forcing wickets. The likes of Imad serve no real purpose.

Fakhar showed that line and length matters. Our pacers aren’t really understanding it for some reason.

1960s? You mean the 90s?

I'm saying this is the worst Pakistan seam attack since the 1960s when we were practically minnows and had no quality seam bowling to speak of.

Even in 2005 with a seam attack of Rana Naved, Rao Iftikhar and Abdul Razzaq we beat India in their backyard 4-2 !

Spin will be key to restrict Eng.Even Aussies who are best planners are going with Lyon and Zampa

I am glad that his days of stereotyping Pakistan with his cliches appear to be over, but I fear he will turn into a meme again after one win.

I reckon try and get another cheap over out of Fakhar, and then bring Hafeez on. We need to slow things down and build pressure on England, wickets will come.

Yet it's taken Clive Lloyd and the rest of the team management TWO years to figure this out. Bloody clowns !

From now on don't go into any ODI without three proper spinners.

Not sure this game is really proof of that tbh, this has just been rubbish bowling mostly, England batsmen have not had to take undue risks.

This series has been proof of that. The ease in which England chased Pakistan’s total in the 3rd ODI epitomises that. The par score on (average) for this series is 400 and I don’t think the wickets will change for the next 2 months.

Root is one batsman in the English team ud rather wanna keep at the crease than dismiss him

Last 5 overs have only yielded 18 runs. Good comeback

Containing is not the right move. I don’t mind leaking a few runs if we pick up wickets.

Fakhar deserves some Pandya treatment. England giving him too much respect.

Paks most economical bowlers... 50 yr old malik. And part timer fakhar 'zero wkts in a career' zaman....

Why aren't people criticising eng for not targetting Fakhar?
They were targetting babar.

Imam, Fakhar, Babar, Harris, Sarfraz, Hafeez, Asif, Shadab, Hassan Ali, Amir, Shaheen This is best combo for 1st match considering all things, Harris and Hafeez can bowl as good as anyone of our main 5th bowler will be but it won't weaken our batting, this team has batting depth till no 10, and will allow top order to be more attacking, this team on average will score more than 300 and can defend it 7 out of 10 tumes. what you think guys?

Another good over from Fakhar, but probably not a good idea to risk keeping him on. Bring Hafeez on now.

England just consolidsting before attacking again

I am glad that his days of stereotyping Pakistan with his cliches appear to be over, but I fear he will turn into a meme again after one win.

Honestly would you rather listen to an incompetent commentator like Ramiz Raja? If you find Nasser’s cliches annoying, I don’t know how you tolerate Ramiz’s regurgitated crap.
