What's new

England vs Pakistan | 5th ODI | Leeds | May 19th, 2019 | England innings

And old ball - reverse swing will come into play in this WC. Today, I saw Imad bowling at around max 58K speed, with some balls slower than 55K - even that's probably a bit quickish against ENG batsmen - needs spinners who turns big and flights it above eye line.

Shadab will add to the spin variety.

I still need to fast 6 hours and I’m stuck between watching the match and finishing a project for tomorrow... :(

Life of a cricket fan.

Well guess what!! I had my Accountancy paper on the very next day of India Vs Pakistan CT final.

If you've marked someone as a long term prospect, then it doesn't matter. You can throw him into the fire or shield him till he's ready. He'll learn either way. However, experiences like this early on in their career are extremely beneficial for young bowlers. He won't face a more dangerous batting lineup or see flatter pitches.
Yes that's right either way he will learn this being the hard way as international cricket now isn't easy especially for bowlers.

MMHS shadab have been missed throught the series, and if we had another decent one the result could have been different.

Woakes and Stokes waiting for introduction of pace, Sarfrazs finally using some brain Englad still have'nt crossed 300 and now only 7 overs left. Good for Pakistan

How bad has our fielding been this series? It has a major impact . . poor!

Imad humbling his critics once again with 3-53 off his 10 overs. Less than run a ball and 3 wickets in these conditions is gold!

Good match in terms of bowling for Imad, looked more effective than he did in his last 9-10 matches. He was giving it bit more flight today.

Much like Imad (although very different in impact) Stokes has a bit too many theatrics when batting

Look at india vs England 2018 highlights. It was kuldeep that made the difference. The spin department in Pakistan is lacking right now.

So the slam bang approach didn't come off in this innings? They hav e completely shut the shop in slog overs.

Need Rixon back this new fielding coach has been disaster. The players have been dropping sitters since Asia Cup. Pathetic fielding and dropping top order players has led to losses for Pakistan

What on earth is Shaheen Afridi doing on the boundary? This is when you have your best fielders on the boundary . . this is ridiculous!!

Excellent captaincy to peg back England when they were looking to fly away to 400+

Now Hasan and Shaheen have to end well.

I hope selectors dont read too much into Imads figures today. One wicket off a full bowl that should have gone for 6, one off a long hop and a straight delivery missed by Moeen

Stokes was like this in the last match as well.... started off extremely slow and then ended up pulling off the chase. This seems like calm before the storm.

You are being bit harsh! Look at his face. Looks like a poor kid doing his best. I hope he develops into one of the best bowler for Pakistan in coming years.

Yeah, he’s still learning but that’s no excuse if you want to play world cup. Developing him is vital but youngsters shouldn’t be exposed too much or they’ll be scarred for the rest of their career.

Whenever they are going to loose wickets in the middle overs they will have to rethink their plans and thus slowing them for few overs atleast.

More like he started throwing in a few off spinners into the mix which put some doubt into the batsman's mind. He should be doing this more often then he wouldn't have any critics.

I never want India to bat like this. Going after bowling non stop and collapsing.

India are more methodical in their approach and therefore they are more of favourites than England who are just one trick pony..... also if the pitch has even a little bit of turn England will struggle to cross 250.

Oh god!

I had a History exam day after CT Final and what I did was woke up early in the morning and studied till when the match started.

And it all paid off well :)

Good bowling from Hassan, since the last match he has really bowled well

It would be better if we stop considering this WC as the end of World. Guy can work hard and can be a better prospect 4 years down the line.

As the pitches wear out through this summer spin will be key.Dont be surprised to see England cry again about used pitches

I miss those days when once we had the team down to 6, 7 out they will be all out within 10-15 runs.

270/6 would have turned into 300/a.o

Those days seem like a distant memory now.

confidence level of bowlers have gone up since those quick wickets. Better execution of yorkers. Woakes is handy. But his range is limited

Not sure about result because ENG actually won with plenty to spare. Also, PAK is using 6+4 combination, means one of Imad or Shadab would have missed from XI. I don't think they gave enough thoughts in combination for WC - after 2 years trying with all-rounders, finally at 12th hour is trying to old formula of 6+4 and 10 make shift overs. That was my initial thought as well - PAK can't use all-rounders for a combination - play 4 bowlers on absolute bowling merit and make 10 overs out of Hafeez, Malik, Haris, Fakhar.

We didn't have as strong a batting line-up as England back then. These freaks bat till number 11.

Good day for Shaheen as well. Good to see Eng struggling a bit while batting for a change.

Had said it just after PSL when Hasnain was selected that he is an utterly garbage bowler who just had two lengths in his bowling without even having the pace for which he was selected. Inzamam still has time to rectify this mistake. Haris Rauf would've been much better if one had to go with a new bowler. At least he has some variety.

Guys what happened I thought England were going to score 400? :afridi

Imad has had a good 2019 in ODIs. Just sick of hearing on here, as the scapegoat of this series for Pakistan.

Pakistani fans are doing bhangra and mocking England for scoring 295-7 in 44 overs (instead of 400) after winning the series.

Sums up the minnow mentality of our fans, but this is what 15 years of mediocrity does to you. The day isn’t far when we will be handing out mithai for “only” losing by 50 runs or 2-3 wickets.

Campaign against reverse swing put an end to that. Or cheating as it used to be called when Pakistan bowled it.

What happened to the 400???

Those days were with reverse swing and one ball being used.

there use to be a lot of tailenders then - now not so much - for england, none at all.

Let's see some 'fans' credit Pakistan bowling for restricting England to a 'par' score. Hell would freeze over before that happens though :))

Football isn’t our strong suit. Our FIFA Ranking was 199 of 208 last time i checked

Primarily because our international team did not play a single match for 3-4 years, but that is a discussion for another thread.

Not really, 295-7 with only 6 overs left means we’re very much in the game. We made 340+ last 3 matches that’s why we’re content with this total so far.

England has set the standard so high that even having them at 295/7 at 45th over is like having them on the mat :) They can still score another 55 to get to 350 which is par for the course in this series.
