Brentford 4-0 Man Utd

Take a bow, Brentford. They have blown Manchester United away.

The Red Devils have been humiliated. Seven away defeats in a row now.

OMG Man Utd seem to be fighting relegation two matches in to the season! They look like a pub side who don't have a clue what they're doing. So bad are they that even most Liverpool fans like me must be feeling sorry for them. The players they have signed again happen to be totally ineffective.....should this continue it will again be the manager who pays the price. The problems at Old Trafford seem to be very deep to the extent that not winning the EPL for twenty years again seems very possible. I hate to think what a rampant Man City will do to them.

I can't stand the weiling from Gary Neville. It's a game of football not a national tragedy. Sky need to take him off air until United get a decent team.

Waiting to watch Roy Keane's reaction to today's hammering.

What a farce Man Utd are - total shambles.

Each big club goes through these dips. Why do United fans expect it to be different. Are they expecting success forever?

HALF-TIME
Forest 1-0 West Ham

And that's half-time.

The first half is over in a flash. And Forest have the lead. The City Ground is bouncing.

==

Michail Antonio was clearly telling referee Robert Jones that his clash with Orel Mangala was accidental in the build-up to the West Ham goal that was disallowed.

Mangala was knocked over though - and he was the nearest Forest player to Declan Rice before the England man played the ball through to Said Benrahma.

Forest 1-0 West Ham

They've done it!

Forest have their first Premier League win for 23 years.

There's an explosion of noise inside the City Ground. They're going to enjoy this.

Nottingham Forest secured a famous win (1-0) as Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal to beat West Ham as Premier League football returned to the City Ground after a 23-year absence.

Awoniyi, Forest's £17m record signing this summer, applied the first-time finish after Jesse Lingard's effort had been deflected into his path off Hammers defender Ben Johnson.

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson was Forest's other hero, denying Declan Rice with a second-half penalty save.

The Hammers could also reflect on two strikes from distance that hit the crossbar and another excellent Henderson save from Tomas Soucek as they started the season with successive defeats.

However, for Forest and their boss Steve Cooper, it was another unforgettable day for a club who were bottom of the Championship less than 12 months ago.

Spurred on by a frenzied home crowd, Forest started on the front foot and had enough to keep West Ham at bay even after their energetic early efforts started to slow.

GOAL - Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham
Kalidou Koulibaly

Kalidou Koulibaly's shot a moment ago was woeful but this one is bang on.

Marc Cucurella picks out the fellow new boy with an outswinging corner and Koulibaly is in acrfes of space to hit a right-foot volley past Hugo Lloris. Great effort.

GOAL - Chelsea 1-1 Tottenham
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Matt Upson called it!!

Spurs enjoy a decent spell of possession before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's low strike from just outside the box takes a slight touch off Kalidou Koulibaly and sneaks inside the far post.

And it's kicking off on the touchline between Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

Somehow, Spurs have got a point.

And it's kicking off between Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel again on the touchline.

Managers marauding down the Stamford Bridge sidelines in celebration or confrontation is hardly a new thing.

But even the 'Special One' Jose Mourinho might have raised an eyebrow at the antics of two of his successors in the Chelsea hotseat on Sunday evening.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel and Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte went head-to-head, nay face-to-face, even nose-to-nose in an escalating squabble that ended with both receiving post-match red cards.

"It was hot from the temperature, hot between the benches, hot on the field and hot between the spectators - everything you want and hope for in a match like this early in the season," said Tuchel with a smile.

While the touchline tiff threatened to overshadow a thrilling Premier League affair, Tuchel was arguably more angry with referee Anthony Taylor at the final whistle than he was with chirpy counterpart Conte.

So what exactly did happen in another fiery London derby that ended in a 2-2 draw?

Believe it or not, a match that contained so much chaos in its final quarter was actually a relatively calm occasion - with few fouls and just two cautions - up until the 68th minute when all hell broke loose.

That was when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's 20-yard daisy-cutter cancelled out Kalidou Koulibaly's volleyed opener - and former Blues boss Conte irked Tuchel with his animated, fist-pumping jubilation.

Tuchel squared up to his opposite number before both benches and officials stepped up to separate the pair as Chelsea's protestations about the legitimacy of the goal began.

Kai Havertz complained he had been fouled by Rodrigo Bentancur in the build-up, while Spurs substitute Richarlison appeared offside and in the line of sight of Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy when Hojbjerg let fly.

Chelsea felt justice was served when Reece James rifled them back ahead nine minutes later, sparking a Mourinho-esque charge down the sidelines from Tuchel,

But then, in the final minute of six added on, Harry Kane's glancing header snatched Spurs a barely-deserved point.

Cue more pandemonium in the dugouts as Conte and Tuchel again clashed, the latter enraged by Cristian Romero's hair pull on full-back Marc Cucurella at the corner that preceded Kane's goal.

"I think both goals are irregular and this is very hard to accept in times of VAR," Tuchel told BBC Sport. "I'm sorry to say but the referee had the decisive role today, nobody else.

"Both their goals cannot stand. There was a clear foul on Kai and the situation goes on and on. Richarlison was offside and when can you pull hair on a football field?

"I cannot understand how the first goal is not offside and I cannot understand how players can pull others' hair and stay on the pitch. This is for me without any explanation and I don't want to accept any.

Tuchel even went as far to suggest Taylor should not officiate future Chelsea games.

"I don't think that just some of the fans think that - I can assure you that the whole dressing room of us, every person thinks that," he added.

Both managers were keen to play down their spats after the match, although Tuchel criticised what he felt was a lack of sincerity in Conte's post-match handshake - and the latter was hardly contrite.

"I thought when we shake hands you looked in each other's eyes, he had a different opinion - it was not necessary, but a lot of things were not necessary," the German, 48, told Sky Sports.

Conte, meanwhile, refused to be pressed on the flare-ups, adding: "If there's a problem, it's between me and him.

"I think that what happened, we did enjoy. Next time I will pay more attention, just shake the hand and solve the problem. I'll stay on my bench, he'll stay on his bench."

A repentant Tuchel even issued a half-apology for his raucous celebration when Chelsea regained the lead.

"In the middle of it I thought I should not do this, but sometimes a match gets you totally, this match sucked me in," he admitted.

"It was pure joy and it may offend the opposition, but they did the same when they equalised."

"There's no hard feelings - I feel like it was a fair tackle from him and a fair tackle from me," was Tuchel's further analogy of the situation.

"We did not insult each other, we did not hit each other, we were fighting for our teams. I'm surprised that we both got a red card for that."

Since the Premier League was formed, Spurs have lost 22 times in all competitions at Stamford Bridge, drawing 12 and winning just once, perhaps excusing their excitement at rescuing a rare point there.

"Stamford Bridge hasn't been our best place over the years so to come away with a point, especially at the end, was a good feeling," admitted Tottenham's England skipper Kane.

"It's disappointing to see the red cards. Obviously it was an emotional game, a London derby, the passion from both sides, both teams wanted to win. That's sometimes what happens in these games."

All eyes will now be on the return game in February - barring any cup meeting before then.

There's no doubt teams like Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool seem equally strong in their race for Premier League. Needless to say, Manchester United have committed a blunder in transfer market this season. Something tells me the so-called 'smaller teams' like Nottingham Forest, Fulham etc. are going to have a blast this season.

Liverpool v Crystal Palace tonight.

Surely a comfortable win for Klopp's side in front of their own fans.

First home game at Anfield is always an occasion.

We have to win this, after drawing with Fulham. I expect us to be on fire this match, win by 2+ goals!

It might be an odd sort of a season.

Established league sides such as Man Utd and West Ham have had very poor starts; whereas some of the stock mid table survivors like Southampton, Everton, and the anti-football specialists Wolves are looking really dreadful. Everton in particular have been mismanaged for years and seem like they could be on borrowed time.

It’s too early to see how Forest, Fulham and Bournemouth will cope with the unforgiving brutality of a full PL season, but they have certainly all delivered decent starts.

Liverpool 0-0 Crystal Palace

Lets see how long Palace hold out for...

More points dropped by Liverpool:

Luis Diaz rescued a point for Liverpool against Crystal Palace after new summer signing Darwin Nunez was sent off in his first Premier League game at Anfield.

Liverpool dominated possession in the first half but Palace went ahead through Wilfried Zaha's clinical finish from Eberechi Eze's superb pass.

Expensive striker Nunez had been desperate to make an impact in front of The Kop, but was deservedly shown a red card by referee Paul Tierney after 57 minutes when he reacted to a shove from Joachim Andersen with a headbutt that floored the Palace defender.

Liverpool responded in defiant fashion with a brilliant equaliser from Diaz four minutes later, cutting in from the flank before flashing a right-foot finish past Vicente Guaita.

The inevitable siege ensued, with Mo Salah and substitute Fabio Carvalho just off target. But Palace had a golden chance of their own when Zaha struck the far post when he should have scored, as Liverpool remain without a win from their first two games.

Might be early season but united vs liverpool next monday is a huge relegation 6 pointer now.

:))

We will finish above Arsenal, a couple of wins early and you think you the great Barcelona team.

Back to common sense and football knowledge.

Poor from Nunez, we would have won this with 11 men.

Its football it happens, City will be hard to catch now but a long way to go. No need to slit writs like Utd and Arsenal fans.

We have your mates Utd next, 3 points on the way.

Yeah we should have won today but didn't lose our opening two matches either. Poor finishing and injuries are the reason for our under performance yet i am hopeful we'll come good versus relegation candidates Man Utd next week:yk Arsenal at least win the CL first at least once before mocking us, it's never gonna happen!

This season liverpool will struggle I just have this feeling the club will struggle to get into a top 4 or top 6 position.

Love to see Manchester city at their place (top). Chelsea were unbelievable good against spurs but were unfortunate.

Not falling for Liverpool at the moment, been a shaky start but they will improve. It was a brilliant goal from Diaz.

Wolves have agreed a club record £38m fee with Sporting Lisbon for Portugal midfielder Matheus Nunes.

Martin Odegaard

Breakthrough!

None of those three score, it is the new captain Martin Odegaard with a tap-in to give Arsenal the lead.

It comes following stunning football from the visitors, Gabriel Jesus trapping a high ball, turning his man before slipping Gabriel Martinelli in on goal.

The Brazilian sets himself and sees his low drive saved by Mark Travers but the Norwegian is in the right place for the easiest of finishes.

William Saliba

Ohhhh what a beauty!

Arsenal finally get their third of the game and it comes courtesy of a stunning strike by French defender William Saliba.

He gets a pass from Granit Xhaka just inside the area before coolly caressing a first-time strike across the face of goal and into the far corner of the net.

He meant it as well, no way was that a cross. What a way to get off the mark in English football.

FULL-TIME
Bournemouth 0-3 Arsenal

A straight forward victory for a mightily impressive Arsenal side, who go top of the table at this early juncture.

It's a north London one-two at the moment.

Still very early days though.

leeds 2-0 up at HT, brighton lead 1-0 at west ham.

Brighton are a good side.

Brighton scored two goals from two shots on target to maintain their unbeaten start to the season with victory at West Ham, who remain without a goal or a point this season.

Alexis Mac Allister scored the opener from the penalty spot after West Ham summer signing Thilo Kehrer brought down Danny Welbeck just inside the area on his Premier League debut.

The Hammers started the second half brightly but were undone when Leandro Trossard latched on to Pascal Gross's flick to seal a third straight league defeat for the hosts.

Aaron Cresswell had a fierce effort well blocked by Joel Veltman, before Robert Sanchez produced two acrobatic saves late on to keep out two Tomas Soucek headers.

The victory for Brighton stretches their unbeaten run to eight games, while West Ham have now had 38 shots in their opening three league games without scoring a goal.

The Seagulls move up to fourth, while the Hammers are rooted to the foot of the table after losing their first three games without scoring for only the second time in their history.

Leeds continued their unbeaten start to the season as they secured a famous win over Chelsea's new-look team with a display which will cause Thomas Tuchel nightmares.

Chelsea, who spent over £170m on players over the summer, were the architects of their own downfall in the first half. Edouard Mendy gifted Leeds the opener by miscontrolling a backpass, allowing Brendan Aaronsen to pounce.

Four minutes later Raheem Sterling gave away a free-kick on the edge of the box, from which Rodrigo scored his fourth of the season after Jack Harrison's delivery.

But Leeds also out-fought their opponents, particularly in midfield, in echoes of the famous historical battles between the two rivals.

And they sealed a first Premier League win over Chelsea in seven attempts, dating back to 2000, when Harrison scored after Daniel James' cross was touched to him by Rodrigo.

An already raucous Elland Road was in disbelief at that moment; the home fans taunted their Chelsea counterparts and manager Jesse Marsch punched the air in wild joy.

There were chances for Chelsea. Sterling curled wide in the first minute and had a goal disallowed, while Marc Cucurella, signed for £62m, was also off-target twice.

But when Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off six minutes from time for a second booking, it summed up Chelsea's afternoon, allowing Leeds fans to wallow in the elation of a superb start to the season as their team moved into third in the table.

GOAL - Newcastle 0-1 Man City
Ilkay Gundogan

Manchester City take the lead and Newcastle make it so easy for them.

Bernardo Silva is given all the time in the world on the right wing to cut inside and put an inswinging cross in.

Ilkay Gundogan is then given too much time to control the ball in the centre before blasting in from six yards out.

GOAL - Newcastle 1-1 Man City
Miguel Almiron

It's given!

Allan Saint-Maximin cut in and whipped in a cross with Joe Willock and Miguel Almiron both unmarked in the six-yard box.

The ball went past Willock and Almiron knocked it into an empty net with his upper leg.

Joao Cancelo was keeping both of them onside, which was missed by the officials at the time.

GOAL - Newcastle 3-1 Man City
Kieran Trippier

OH HELLO.

Kieran Trippier, once on Manchester City's books, steps up to take this free-kick and curls it into the top corner.

GOAL - Newcastle 3-3 Man City
Bernardo Silva

There we go.

City play a lovely passing move round the box and Kevin de Bruyne plays a reverse ball to Bernardo Silva, who waits for Nick Pope to commit and then slots the ball into the bottom corner.

English champions Manchester City produced a brilliant fightback as they came from 3-1 down to draw (3-3) at Newcastle in a pulsating match featuring six goals and an overturned red card.

Newcastle were two goals ahead after 54 minutes but Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva scored within four minutes of each other to preserve City's unbeaten start to their Premier League title defence.

City took a fifth-minute lead as Ilkay Gundogan was left unmarked from Silva's pass and was able to take a touch before slotting past Nick Pope.

The England goalkeeper made a number of saves before the hosts equalised with Miguel Almiron sliding in to meet Allan Saint-Maximin's cross, with the goal given after a video assistant review overruled an original offside decision.

The excellent Saint-Maximin ran at the City defence before finding Callum Wilson, who took a touch to create space and shot Newcastle into the lead.

The visitors had a chance to equalise but Pope pushed Haaland's effort on to the post and Kieran Trippier, sold by City in 2012 after coming through their academy, grabbed a brilliant third with a stunning 25-yard free-kick.

Haaland pulled one back, finishing from inside the six-yard box after Rodri's pass, before Silva equalised following Kevin de Bruyne's superb through ball.

Newcastle thought they had gone down to 10 men with Trippier shown a red card for a knee-high trip on De Bruyne. But referee Jarred Gillett downgraded it to a yellow after watching the incident again on a pitchside monitor - and both teams finished with a point.

City began the weekend in top spot and knew a two-goal victory would take them back there, above Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola's side made the perfect start with Gundogan scoring after only five minutes - the first goal Newcastle had conceded this season.

But City should have stretched their lead. Pope saved with his legs to deny Haaland and Phil Foden and kept out an effort from De Bruyne as the visitors piled on the pressure.

Newcastle started to get back in the game and Saint-Maximin had an effort parried by Ederson with Wilson also unable to convert a chance as he lost his balance.

But it became 1-1 in the 28th minute as Saint-Maximin crossed from the left and Almiron, who had earlier wasted an opportunity by firing over, flung himself at the ball, which bounced off his thigh and into the net.

It had originally been ruled out for offside but a VAR check showed Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker had played him onside - to the delight of Almiron, who celebrated his first goal of the season.

It would have been a satisfying moment for him as he had been recently mocked by City's Jack Grealish, absent at St James' Park after picking up a knock in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth eight days ago.

During City's title celebrations in May, the England forward joked Riyad Mahrez had played 'like Almiron' in their final-day victory over Aston Villa, but the Paraguayan silenced his critic in the best way possible.

Newcastle scored again just before half time when Saint-Maximin played a ball into Wilson, who produced an excellent first touch to evade both Ruben Dias and John Stones before putting his side ahead.

City, facing their first away league defeat since 15 August 2021 when they lost 1-0 at Tottenham, fell further behind with Trippier's excellent free-kick.

Newcastle unable to hold on to two-goal lead

But with the home fans ecstatic at their side's advantage, City showed why they have been English champions in four of the past five seasons, producing an excellent recovery.

Haaland had faced criticism after only having eight touches in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth, although he did register an assist.

But the Norway striker grabbed his third league goal since his £51.2m move from Borussia Dortmund in June with a predator's finish from close range, reacting quickest to convert Rodri's pullback.

Silva then calmly finished from De Bruyne's pass to leave it at 3-3 with 26 minutes to go and set up a thrilling finale - in which Trippier feared he had been dismissed, only to be reprieved.

Neither side could find a winner as a frantic afternoon ended in a draw with both teams maintaining their unbeaten league starts, with City second on seven points, two more than sixth-placed Newcastle.

Really enjoyed the Newcastle v Man City match today.

Both sides great to watch and both really went for the win.

Newcastle look so much better this season, whilst City's defence still looks shaky.

Didn’t see that coming.

Huge win for Man U.

Manchester United produced an outstanding display to defeat Liverpool and give manager Erik ten Hag his first Premier League victory at a thunderous Old Trafford.

Ten Hag took the bold decision to drop captain Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo and was rewarded with a performance that lifted the mood of crisis around Manchester United and leave Liverpool still searching for a first win of the season.

Jadon Sancho showed superb control and composure to deservedly put United in front after 16 minutes before Marcus Rashford raced clear to beat Alisson from substitute Anthony Martial's pass eight minutes after the interval.

Mo Salah set up a tense finish when he scrambled in a header with nine minutes left but United survived to give Ten Hag just the sort of triumph he needs to make his mark at Old Trafford.
