HALF-TIME
Spurs 0-2 Arsenal

The half-time whistle goes and Arsenal are cruising at the break.

And this is why the EPL is the greatest league in the world!

What a season thus far, and we're only half way through!

8 points clear.

Hopefully City and united will drop points midweek, if not we need to smash united next sunday.

Bournemouth have agreed a deal for Lorient winger Dango Ouattara, with the fee believed to be about £20m.

The 20-year-old has scored six goals and provided six assists in 18 Ligue 1 appearances this season.

New Bournemouth owner Bill Foley is attempting to buy a stake in Lorient, which has been an advantage in reaching agreement for Ouattara.

Brilliant prediction as usual.

Well played Arsenal. If anyone could predict correct scores, they would be multi billionaires and not this forum. :)

I will give you credit.

Arsenal HAVE won the league!

Congratulations Arsenal for winning the PL. Amazing achievement. :wenger

Crystal Palace v Man Utd (20:00 GMT)

A win today would put Manchester United back up into second place.

That would set up Sunday's match with leaders Arsenal very nicely.

(Although with Newcastle and Manchester City playing again, United could be fourth by then anyway...)

Crystal Palace's Michael Olise scored a stunning last-minute free-kick to deny Manchester United a victory that would have taken them second in the Premier League.

United were on course for their 10th successive victory after Bruno Fernandes scored just before half-time when he finished well following Christian Eriksen's pull-back.

But Olise struck in dramatic style with a brilliant curling free-kick to ensure a point apiece.

The draw does take United above Newcastle into third but keeps them behind rivals Manchester City, who play at home to Tottenham on Thursday.

2 points thrown away by Man Utd.

Went very defensive in the second half and the longer the game went on the more United sat back.

Yep, they were just inviting that equaliser and it was inevitable.

Thank you Vieira and Palace.

Just need spurs and Wolves to some how take points off city now.

Congrats Arsenal on winning the league-!
United needed everything to go right this week and next but now we are too far behind and Sunday is a difficult game. We looked very leggy in the second half and that isn't a good sign for Sunday at all

If Arsenal can even draw against Man Utd and City they will be favorites to win the title considering they are winning games against other teams consistently

Still 20 games to go and no one has won the league, seems like none-arsenal are trying to apply additional pressure here.

1 game at a time.

United are capable of winning at the Emirates they have before playing counter attacking football. So for me this is just next test for Arsenal.

Stop Odegard, Stop Arsenal. Newcastle showed this template to everyone. Unfortunately NC did not have the ammunition for anything beyond.

Seems crazy but I feel like Haaland has made City so one-dimensional!

Seems crazy but I feel like Haaland has made City so one-dimensional!

Reminds me of when united had the cheating diver RVN and he would get 20 goals season but united as team were disjointed.

Man City up 3-2. What a comeback.

Hugo Lloris is absolute crap. How Spurs haven't replaced him already is beyond me. Absolute fraud.

A Mahrez special

Even with generous 2 goal head start, City run out comfortable winners, 4-2.

Superb once again from Man City in the second half but defensively they look a mess without Diaz.

Mahrez was amazing tonight.

Manchester City fought back from two goals down to produce a memorable Premier League win against Tottenham.

Dejan Kulusevski pounced after Ederson's mistake for the first goal, before Emerson Royal added a second with a diving header soon afterwards.

But Julian Alvarez fired home a loose ball early in the second half and Erling Haaland headed in an equaliser.

Riyad Mahrez shot past Hugo Lloris and then added his second and City's fourth with a calm, lifted finish late on.

The win leaves reigning champions City second in the Premier League, five points behind leaders Arsenal, who have a game in hand.

More than half of the world's richest clubs by revenue are from the Premier League, according to analysis by Deloitte.

Eleven Premier League clubs make up the top 20 in their Money League study from the 2021-22 season.

It is the first time in the study's 26 years that more than half of the clubs are from the same league.

Champions Manchester City retained top spot, making 731m euros (£619.1m), ahead of Real Madrid (713.8m euros).

Liverpool rise to third from seventh, while Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal also make the top 10, with West Ham, Leicester, Leeds, Everton and Newcastle in the top 20.

The top 20 clubs made 9.2bn euros (£7.82bn), a 13% increase from 2020-21.

That increase is largely down to the return of fans to stadia for the first full season after Covid-19 restrictions, with matchday revenue rising from 111m euros to 1.4bn euros.

Team news - Bajcetic starts for Liverpool; Mudryk on Chelsea bench

Liverpool v Chelsea (12:30 GMT)

In his 1,000th game as a manager, Jurgen Klopp makes three changes to the Liverpool side that beat Wolves in the FA Cup on Tuesday, with 18-year-old Stefan Bajcetic keeping his place in midfield.

Alisson, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah come into the starting line-up while the fit-again Darwin Nunez is on the bench after missing the last two games.

James Milner starts at right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold named among the substitutes.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Milner, Konate, Gomez, Robertson, Bajcetic, Keita, Thiago, Elliott, Salah, Gakpo.

Subs: Kelleher, Fabinho, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Tsimikas, Nunez, Matip, Alexander-Arnold.

Chelsea make just one alteration to the XI that started their 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last weekend with Marc Cucurella coming in for Carney Chukwuemeka.

£89m signing Mykhailo Mudryk will have to wait to make his debut. The 22-year-old winger is on the bench.

Mateo Kovacic is not included in the squad.

Chelsea XI: Arrizabalaga, Chalobah, Thiago Silva, Badiashile, Hall, Cucurella, Jorginho, Gallagher, Mount, Ziyech, Havertz.

Subs: Bettinelli, Aubameyang, Loftus-Cheek, Mudryk, Koulibaly, Fofana, Azpilicueta, Chukwuemeka, Humphreys.

HALF-TIME
Liverpool 0-0 Chelsea

A niggly, unattractive half, lacking any kind of fluency from either side, comes to an end.

So far, it's a game between two visibly out-of-form sides that are scared to lose.

FULL-TIME
Liverpool 0-0 Chelsea

It ends goalless, the final whistle greeted with near silence.

The fans here know they cannot afford to drop points right now.

The draw leaves both teams still well short of the top four. It could be a 12-point gap by the end of this weekend.

Liverpool and Chelsea laid their respective Premier League struggles bare for all to see in a bitterly disappointing stalemate at Anfield.

The two giants, who have been in constant pursuit of major prizes in recent seasons, are currently locked well outside the top four - and how it showed in a dismal game almost devoid of entertainment and quality.

Chelsea had an early Kai Havertz strike ruled out for offside by VAR and there was also a lively debut as a second-half substitute for £89m new boy Mykhailo Mudryk, while Liverpool keeper Alisson saved well from another new Chelsea signing, defender Benoit Badiashile.

Liverpool's own £45m recruit Cody Gakpo was quiet. He did force one save from Kepa, but otherwise there was little to warm a capacity crowd at a freezing Anfield.

Southampton remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League after Ollie Watkins' second-half header earned Aston Villa a narrow win at St Mary's.

Watkins nodded Douglas Luiz's inswinging free-kick into the bottom corner with 13 minutes remaining as Villa claimed their fifth victory in seven league games under new manager Unai Emery.

The visitors dominated possession but were fortunate not to fall behind midway through the first half when Che Adams' close-range effort was ruled out for offside.

Saints had the ball in the Villa net again shortly after the hour mark, but James Ward-Prowse's deflected strike was chalked off following Mohamed Elyounoussi's foul on Jacob Ramsey in the build-up.

Watkins' fifth goal of the season ultimately proved decisive, as Saints' three-game winning run in all competitions came to an abrupt end.

The game at St Mary's was suspended five minutes before half-time when a drone was spotted hovering above the Southampton penalty area.

Both teams were taken off the pitch by referee Michael Salisbury before re-emerging 10 minutes later once police had given the all-clear.

Wolves have completed the signing of defender Craig Dawson from West Ham for £3.3m.

The Englishman, 32, joins on a two-and-a-half-year deal and is Wolves' fourth January signing.

Former West Brom centre-back Dawson, who has made 246 Premier League appearances, spent the past two seasons at the Hammers.

Wolves, who are 17th in the Premier League, face a trip to Manchester City (14:00 GMT) on Sunday.

Under new manager Julen Lopetegui the club have signed midfielder Mario Lemina, winger Pablo Sarabia and forward Matheus Cunha.

Dawson, whose last appearance for the Hammers was in an FA Cup win at Brentford on 7 January, was not registered in time to face City.

He initially joined West Ham on loan from Watford in October 2020 before turning that into a permanent move.

He made 87 appearances and scored five goals in all competitions for the Hammers, and started all six Europa League knockout round games last season as West Ham reached the semi-finals.

He impressed against a Sevilla side managed by Lopetegui when West Ham beat them in the last-16 of the competition.

Meanwhile, Wolves forward Fabio Silva is set to join PSV Eindhoven on loan for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old spent the first half of the campaign in Belgium with Anderlecht, scoring seven goals in 20 league appearances, but will now switch to the Eredivisie, where PSV are two points behind leaders Feyenoord.

Uefa regulations mean Silva will be available for PSV's Europa League play-off round game against Sevilla next month, even though he played for Anderlecht in the Europa Conference League.

Arsenal 3-2 Man Utd

All over.

What a fantastic game.

It's Arsenal who come out on top with a statement victory, showcasing their title credentials by edging past in-form Manchester United.

Huge 3 points, after City has won earlier.

City in the FA cup next and then Everton away after.

Fulham v Tottenham (20:00 GMT) - kick-off delayed by 15 minutes because of local travel restrictions

Harry Kane became Tottenham's all-time joint-top scorer and boosted their Champions League hopes with a goal that defeated Fulham.

The England captain hit a sweet strike into the bottom corner from just outside the box with one of their few chances in the first half.

That was his 266th goal for Spurs, levelling the record Jimmy Greaves set between 1961 and 1970.

Kane could have broken the record in the second half but his close-range header was tipped over well by Bernd Leno.

This was only a second win in six Premier League games for Antonio Conte's side, who are now just three points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

Fulham had plenty of chances to score before Kane's opener with Hugo Lloris keeping out Bobby Decordova-Reid's long-range drive and Harrison Reed's snap-shot.

But this is now a second defeat in a row and a missed chance to go above Spurs into fifth place.

The game had kicked off 18 minutes late following travel problems for fans in the area and then issues with referee Paul Tierney's communication devices.

Bournemouth have agreed a 23m euro (£20.3m) deal with Villarreal for Senegal forward Nicolas Jackson.

Jackson, who can play across the front three, has scored three goals in 24 games in all competitions this season.

The 21-year-old is set to become Bournemouth's second signing of the January window after Dango Ouattara's £20m move from French side Lorient.

The Cherries are 18th in the Premier League after Saturday's draw against Nottingham Forest.

The British transfer record was smashed on deadline day as an unprecedented January transfer window ended with Premier League clubs having spent £2.8bn during the 2022-23 season.

_128481300_mostexpensivefootballers.jpg

Chelsea's 121m euro (£107m) deal for Benfica's Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez took the total expenditure by top-flight clubs in January to a record-breaking £815m.

More than £275m was spent on deadline day alone before the window closed for English clubs at 23:00 GMT on Tuesday.

The deadline day outlay was an increase of 83% on the previous January record of £150m, set in 2018.

And, while an all-time high season expenditure across both the summer and winter windows was guaranteed after a record of £1.9bn was set in September, the final total is double the previous record of £1.4bn in 2017.

The 2018 winter record spend of £430m by Premier League clubs had also already been smashed prior to Tuesday's deadline day, with the eventual total in 2023 an increase of 90% on that - and almost triple the previous January window (£295m), according to financial services firm Deloitte.

How transfer deadline day unfolded
The Premier League's financial dominance in Europe increased to the highest proportion ever reported, as the spending by English top-flight clubs accounted for 79% of the total across Europe's 'big five' football leagues, where January spending fell by 35% from 2022 to €255m (£225m).

Indeed, Chelsea spent more in January than the combined total of all clubs in the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1.

Among English Football League clubs, spending rose to £25m, up from £20m in the previous winter window.

Tim Bridge, lead partner in Deloitte's Sports Business Group, said: "The record spending by Premier League clubs this season is beyond anything that we've seen before.

"Premier League clubs have outspent those within the rest of Europe's 'big five' leagues by almost four to one in this transfer window, allowing them to hold on to their key players, while attracting top-talent from overseas.

"However, while there is a clear need to invest in squad size and quality to retain a competitive edge, there will always be a fine balance to strike between prioritising success on-pitch and maintaining financial sustainability."

Chelsea's late capture of Fernandez was the headline deal on deadline day as the Blues smashed the British transfer record - previously the £100m Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish in 2021 - to land the 22-year-old World Cup winner.

Elsewhere, Tottenham announced the signing of full-back Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon on loan until the end of the season, with an obligation to buy for 45m euros (£40m) - while defenders Matt Doherty (permanent) and Djed Spence (loan) were allowed to leave.

Premier League leaders Arsenal strengthened with the £12m acquisition of Italy midfielder Jorginho from Chelsea, while fourth-placed Manchester United completed the loan signing of Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich.

Southampton ended the window with a late flurry of activity, completing a club record £22m deal for Ghana winger Kamaldeen Sulemana as well as signing Nigeria striker Paul Onuachu.

Bournemouth signed Ukraine centre-back Illia Zabarnyi for a reported £24m and Ivory Coast midfielder Hamed Traore on an initial loan before a £20m summer move.

Fellow promoted side Nottingham Forest were also busy, completing deals for Atletico Madrid's Brazilian defender Felipe and Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey for undisclosed fees, while Paris St-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas arrived on loan.

Leicester City signed defender Harry Souttar from Stoke City in a deal which could rise to £20m with add-ons, and Crystal Palace signed France youth international Naouirou Ahamada from Stuttgart for 11m euros (£9.7m).

A surprise high-profile Premier League departure saw Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo join Bayern Munich on loan for the rest of the season, with a 70m euro (£61.5m) option to join permanently in the summer.

Chelsea's deal for Fernandez was a fitting end to another astonishing window. Amid another remarkable spending spree, the Blues agreed a £89m deal with Shakhtar Donetsk for 22-year-old Ukraine forward Mykhailo Mudryk earlier in January.

In addition to their deadline day signing of Jorginho, Arsenal signed Belgium striker Leandro Trossard from Brighton for £21m plus add-ons, along with Jakub Kiwior from Serie A side Spezia for 20m euros (£17.6m).

Elsewhere, Liverpool agreed a deal worth 40-50m euros (£35.4m-£44.3m) to sign Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo, 23, from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.

And Newcastle United's signing of 21-year-old Anthony Gordon from Everton could eventually be worth £45m.

There was big money spent among the league's current bottom-half sides too, with Leeds United signing French forward Georginio Rutter, 20, from Hoffenheim for a club record 40m euros (£36m).

Bournemouth also recruited Burkina Faso winger Dango Ouattara from Lorient for around £20m and Leicester paid £17m for defender Victor Kristiansen

Following the £15m sale of Danny Ings to West Ham, Aston Villa signed teenage Colombia striker Jhon Duran from Chicago Fire for £18m.

Big-movers Chelsea dominate Premier League spending

It has been an extraordinary couple of transfer windows for Chelsea since the club's £4.25bn sale to a consortium led by American investor Todd Boehly last May.

And it looked that way even before an eye-watering amount was finally agreed with Benfica for Fernandez late into deadline day.

It is the latest bold statement of intent in the still early days of Chelsea's new era under Boehly, which has seen more than £550m spent on new signings.

Their spending in January alone exceeded £300m on eight new players, with Mudryk, Malo Gusto (£30.7m), Benoit Badiashile (£35m), Noni Madueke (£30.7m), Andrey Santos (£18m) and David Datro Fofana (£8m-£10m) all also added on permanent deals.

Meanwhile, talented 23-year-old Portugal forward Joao Felix moved to Stamford Bridge on loan from Atletico Madrid at a cost of 11 million euros (£9.7m).

That came after a summer that saw them spend a Premier League record £270m - the second-highest summer spend by any club in the world after Real Madrid (£292m) in 2019.

In total, Chelsea accounted for 37% of the total amount spent by Premier League clubs in January.

Enzo Fernandez has replaced Jack Grealish as the most expensive signing in British football
The January deals that never were
Despite all the money spent, not everyone got what they wanted.

Morocco forward Hakim Ziyech's proposed deadline day move from Chelsea to PSG appeared to collapse as the player waited in Paris because the documentation to complete the transfer was not submitted in time.

Arsenal had a £60m bid rejected by Brighton in their pursuit of midfielder Moises Caicedo, despite the midfielder confirming his desire to leave the club in an open letter on his Instagram. That came after the Gunners were beaten to the signing of Mudryk by Chelsea.

Have Arsenal done enough in January to win the Premier League?
Wednesday's transfer gossip: Manchester City plan move for Leicester's James Maddison
England midfielder Conor Gallagher decided to stay at Stamford Bridge despite interest from Premier League strugglers Everton.

Indeed, despite appointing former Burnley boss Sean Dyche as the club's new manager on Monday, the 19th-placed Toffees did not do any business on deadline day.

But, after all the excitement, who do you think was the best big-money signing of the 2022-23 January transfer window? Have your say below.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is in the face of the assistant referee after disagreeing with a decision. Not a great look but he escapes punishment.

The Premier League is "almost bankrolling" European football, with La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 in danger of becoming "feeder leagues", says French journalist Julien Laurens.

Premier League clubs spent £815m during the January transfer window.

That is over four times the combined £198m in Spain, Italy, Germany and France.

"Right now the only league where you can afford anyone is the Premier League," said Laurens on BBC Radio 5 Live's Euro Leagues podcast.

"People that run French clubs, they're relying on English clubs to spend £20m or £30m to sign one of their players. If you have a young player that's not too bad in Ligue 1 someone from England can say 'he might be good, here's £40m'.

"The Premier League is almost bankrolling European football."

British record signing Enzo Fernandez made his Chelsea debut but could not help his new side claim only their second win of 2023 as they were held by Fulham at Stamford Bridge.

Argentina midfielder Fernandez completed a £107m move to the Blues from Benfica three days ago and Graham Potter opted to hand him an immediate start.

He made a solid impression and almost enjoyed a dream debut when his curled effort flew just wide of the post in the second half.

Kai Havertz also went close before the break when his lobbed effort from Hakim Ziyech's superb pass clipped the woodwork before the ball was cleared off the line, while debutant David Datro Fofana had a shot cleared off the line late on after showing great control to wrongfoot the goalkeeper.

But overall Chelsea did not do enough to earn the win as they again struggled to create real goalscoring chances, finishing the game with just three shots on target.

Fulham fully deserved the point after a superb defensive display and move up to sixth in the table, three places and two points above Chelsea.

One of Sean Dyche’s old muckers Tarkowski does it.

Liverpool's torrid season continued as they slumped to defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers, who boosted their Premier League survival hopes with a big victory.

The Reds were aiming to avoid losing a third successive Premier League away match for the first time since 2012, but fell behind after just five minutes when Hwang Hee-chan's cross deflected off Joel Matip into the Liverpool net.

It got worse for Jurgen Klopp's side just seven minutes later as poor defending allowed Craig Dawson to mark his debut with a goal, driving in from close range.

Liverpool managed just one shot on target in a dreadful first-half display, but came out with more fight after the break.

Andy Robertson had a goalbound shot blocked and Mohamed Salah clipped a decent effort just wide of the post, before Darwin Nunez drove straight at Jose Sa as Wolves dropped further back.

But the hosts soaked up the pressure before hitting their opponents on the counter-attack, Ruben Neves finishing after great work by Adama Traore.

Victory moves Wolves out of the relegation zone up to 15th, while Liverpool remain 10th.

Newcastle 1-1 West Ham

Newcastle are unbeaten in a club-record 16 top-flight games, with nine wins and seven draws since their 2-1 defeat at Liverpool on 31 August.

They are only one game away from equalling their longest unbeaten run in any league - 17 games in the 2009-10 Championship.

Struggling West Ham produced a gritty performance to secure a rare away point and frustrate in-form Newcastle United at St James' Park.

Sean Longstaff followed up his two goals against Southampton on Tuesday, which booked the Magpies a place in the Carabao Cup final, by setting up Callum Wilson to fire the hosts ahead with a clinical finish.

Fabian Schar almost made it 2-0 following a free-kick before Brazil midfielder Lucas Paqueta equalised from inside the six-yard box - the first Premier League goal Newcastle have conceded since 6 November.

Eddie Howe's side were far from their fluent best and the 69th-minute introduction of new signing Anthony Gordon as a substitute failed to inspire Newcastle as West Ham dug deep.

On a frustrating day for the Magpies, Joelinton was booked for a clear dive inside the West Ham box by referee Peter Bankes, while Allan Saint-Maximin had a goal-bound attempt blocked on his first Premier League start since 28 August.

Newcastle, who started the weekend in third spot in the Premier League, are now fourth on 40 points - four ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham who entertain Manchester City on Sunday (16:30 GMT).

West Ham remain 16th - one point above the relegation zone - after securing a sixth point on the road this season.

Spurs have done Arsenal huge favour here. Arsenal need to beat Brentford now and go into city game with confidence. Arsenal's league record in last 6 years vs city is pathetic, no excuse now not to try and take points of city when others teams have managed to do it.
