First Ashes Test: Aus V Eng [Day 2]

i think so but not 100% sure. He was a genuine off spinner who used to bat about number 10 i think!
so Fletcher has done an Irfan Pathan on him?

j/k he is a good batsman and good for cricket as he is entertaining but he can be used to bowl more atleast in ODIs

wooh...that's like Shoaib Malik....only difference is that Malik used to bat #10 while playing international cricket
I think Majid Khan was same, though he may have started batting at 8 and maybe used to bowl medium pace and then switched to off spin

yea he opened the bowling for PAK....

Do you guys feel that Gilchrist's average is averaging out? because i never thought he was 'that' good to average around 60 in test cricket.

Gilly came into the team a bit late because of Ian Healy. I always wanted to see him bat higher earlier in his career, like maybe 4.

ha yeah hes slightly better than pathan, with the bat at least! I agree hes good for the game, the game needs more characters and most people are in their seats when he comes to the crease

not that i know of but considering the way their top order is performing these days we might see Vettori coming in at #3!

If england can get them all out for 550 or less that will be a good fight back and they could still win the match

Surely Harmlesson can get Warney out?

Flintoff continues to bowl well....where does he get all this energy from?
Flintoff is the man. Some commentator was saying last Ashes that Flintoff would go and train with the boxers and that is hard training to keep his fitness

Warne out But Harmisson gets a wicket

Lee averages 21. catching up with Razzaq and Afridi ... hmmmm

wait Afridi is a better test player than ODI but wants to concentrate on ODI more. so afridi up there is not right

Clarke should look to push the lead up to 530 or so now.

LOL what a bouncer from Harmy to Lee. I'm sure that favour will be returned later. :)))

Mark Richardson used to bowl slow left arm then his bowling turned rubbish and he transformed himself into a dour opening batsman.

yeah think thats who i was thinking off

whats clark like with the bat?

He's ok - better than McGrath but not as good as Lee. Apparently he made 60 off 30 deliveries in a Pura Cup match for NSW a couple weeks ago.

Harmi needs couple of wickets to give him some confidence for next innings or match

barmy army in good form!
so that is Barmy Army chanting. I thought they are saying OZZI OZZI but then I don't know english chants

bit of a dasher then?!

Clarke gets his 50. Well played son. Get us to 530, then hit out after that. I'd love to see us bowling to England sometime after tea at the latest.

I've heard mention of some member ofthe Barmy Army boycotting today's game.... what happened?

If Australia gets to 600 ... it is game over as England will prob be asked to follow on. But if England can get some quick wickets now, they could be in with a chance for a draw.

I think this will be a similar tale for the rest of the Ashes.

So what do you think will happen to Watson now that Clarke has delivered?

not sure havent heard anything about that?

Edit: (about the barmy army thing!)

Ian Chappell approves of Clarke. He thinks that his 50 has showed the slectors he can bat.
my opinion - but when Watson is Okay Clarke or Martyn have to go out. Which one was selected for Watson? This could also be the case when Aus says that next match we cannot play with 4 bowlers even if Watson is not fit.

yeah theyre chanting barmy army!
oh yeah I heard that when Pak was in England but just can't make out what they say. then I thought it was OLE OLE or something and now in Aus Ozzi Ozzi made more sense

clarke selected for watson i think, maybe they drop martyn then as he is getting on abit

Well they could go that way, but thats generally not how it works in Australia. Marto has prob been the in-form batsmen over the last few months (incl. Champ Trophy), so to drop him for one innings failure would be harsh.

I personally think Watson will have to wait a couple more games before he makes his Ashes debut. As the selectors really want to try an all rounder, he will prob end up playing the last two tests in Sydney and Melbourne, and one of Clarke or Martyn will miss out then. I suspect MacGill will also play one or both of those games.

true, to be honest i wouldnt even play watson at all, admitidly i havent seen him play for a while but last time i did he didnt look a test standard all rounder

Aus declared. No - A four first ball I started watching the match again after tea and Aus 532-8

he may not be test standard and how ever good McGrath and Warne are, Aus cannot go with 4 bowlers for next match or the match after. they cannot over bowl them. hey even this match Warne has to be on probably by 15th over and that is not good

I'm with you on this one 2. I don't rate Watson as an all rounder. As a batsmen though, he isn't a bad choice, but if Australia lose a bowler and play Watson, it will be a mistake. Watson has made some big scores in first class cricket.

Watson is primarily seen as a batsman who can bowl, as opposed to a genuine all-rounder. I can't imagine that even Andrew Hilditch and his fellow muppets in charge would be foolish enough to pick him as a bowler. His value lies in us being able to pick an extra bowler (eg MacGill or someone like Tait or Johnson).

Huuuuugggggggeeeeee 6 for Clark. And he does it again!! 2 66666666666666666s in a row off Anderson! :)))

I would've said the same last year, but this year he's actually learned to move the ball. And as long as he doesn't get any ideas that he's anything other than a batsman who can bowl some spells in a workhorse role, he'll do ok. His batting has improved and he can bat in the middle order.

Anderson bowling at McGrath pace - 130kmh.

How much longer before we declare??? Let's have at these guys. I hope they don't expect McGrath to head out in the middle. I'd rather declare at 8/564 than get bowled out for 570 or something.

Sarfraz has hammered Anderson out of the attack. Here comes Superman, he's had enough of these tailenders.

oh my gosh.....nothing can stop Sarfraz....time to look up the fastest 50 in test cricket?
My guess is 24 balls

Considering he's got 33* off 17 so far, he's a bit of a cowlasher, yes. Not bad for a No.10 batsman eh. :))

LOL Sarfraz heaves Harmy to deep square leg but Alastair Cook makes a hash of it! :)))

I think that brought up Harmy's ton as well...

Well it seems like a 600 is a certainty now. Congrats on the Aussies for a win at the Gabba and going 1-0 in the series. :14:

how anyone can say that while one team is yet to bat is beyond me.

I know how this Aussie team plays. Unless by some miracle, McGrath, Warne are injured and can play no further part, this game has an australian victory written all over it.

And Superman removes Sarfraz. 39 off 23 in his first Ashes Test. Come on Dubya, declare already. Don't tell us you're going to send Pidge out there!

Ponting is determined to scrape to 600 somehow. Pidge is out there.

Clark out ... maybe there is still a chance to get them out before the 600.
