First Ashes Test: Aus V Eng [Day 2]

Ponting is determined to scrape to 600 somehow. Pidge is out there.

Ponting wants to do the sporting jesture and let Freddie have the chance to get 5 wickets.

OZGOD which Aussie ground is best for reverse swing? my guess is Hobart!

Maybe the SCG or Adelaide. The outfields in Australia are generally too lush to get the ball scuffed up too much. It may happen, but not to the extent that it would in say England or the subcontinent or NZ.

And here it comes - Ponting declares the innings closed at 9/602.

Here's the card:

England will be playing with a midset that they need to make 402 to save the follow on. No easy task when you got McGrath and Warnie operating. Only rain can save England now.

Here comes Lee. Can we make inroads early? England will be desperate to get to stumps for the loss of no wicket.

Good fielding from Haydunce at gully.

94.1 mph the fatest in that first over. This is amazing express pace first up.

Maiden over from Lee, 4 byes off it.

Rob and OZGod what do you guys think of Glenn? Does he still have it in him?
He's the master mate. He bowled a jaffer t0 Strauss last over that beat him all ends up.

Lee bending it like Beckham. But Cook playing him well.

I have used the statguru on cricinfo. Just an interesting point.

Australia HAS NEVER LOST a test match at home in which they have scored over 600 runs batting first. Not even drawn all wins.

Filter: Australia at home, in matches batting first, scoring greater than or equal to 600 runs.

He still has it. But I worry about whether he can continue to play the metronome for long spells.

Both these batsmen made centuries on their debut.....Cook vs IND at Nagpur in 2006.....Strauss vs WI(was it) @lords in 2004

There's an example - poor line from Pidge down the leg side and Strauss glances it down to fine leg.

In fact, I only got 7 results from the above filter. Am I missing something obvious, or is this correct. :13:

If I do the same filter with all Australian games home and away. I get 15 wins and 4 draws. But at home, they are unbeatable when they get that sort of lead.

This from cricinfo
"And the Barmy Army are already off on one. England are 0 for 17 and the match is, according to them, theirs for the taking. You've got to admire their spirit - spirit probably being the operative word"

Appeal for LBW, not given. Might be a bit high.

LOL this HotSpot camera will be just another tool to smack umpires over the head with over and over again. :)))

Good start from England. It'll be interesting to see how long they can maintain it. Also interesting to see how long before Warnie enters.

WICKET - Hussey takes the catch, Strauss gone for 12. But Huss may have taken Lee out and ripped his knee! That was some horrible calling there. Still, amazing he caught the ball while at the same time colliding with Lee.

I think Lee is ok - a bit of blood never hurt anyone. Seems to be walking ok. He's a tough bloke but he may be coming off for a precaution.

Oh well, it was time for Lee's spell to end anyway. He ran off the ground, maybe he'll just change his trousers.

Bell gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! McGrath strikes! Bell gone for a duck!

(and a great shot of a cheering Ozzy femme in the crowd jumping up and down and bouncing with the camera looking up her :D)

Hmm... collisions and Aussie players. It was Gillespie and S Waugh, and then we had Elliot and ???

When will they learn.

Someone out?

Are they showing this live in Brisvegas, Genghis?

Two outs - Strauss and Bell.

Collywobble saves the hatrick ball. Great bowling from the Pigeon.

yeh they are ... since its a sell out. But I'm at work, so no TV here. I'll be glued to the TV over the next two days, and if I can get tickets and convince some mates to come with me, might go on Sunday. But chances are there may be no game on Sunday.

LOL - I forgot about the time difference. It's 1:45am here in Boston. :D

hmmn clark in as lee completes his marathon 3 over spell...

Sorry - in the excitement, it was actually Cook who was on strike, not Bell, and was out.

Funny how the cameramen always seems to find the best people in the crowd.

I think Lee had to stitch his knee up after colliding with Hussey.

Enjoy the last half hour. I'll start headin home now. Hope the poms can last the rest of the day and put up some sort of a decent total.

Wonder how long before we see Warney?

Big appeal from McGrath and the slips, but not given by Bowden. Let's see the replay...might have been high as well. Benefit of doubt to the batsman, good call.

McGrath's getting some good movement off the seam here.

Good running from England to force the overthrow.

Geez, Clark is beating the outside edge pretty regularly since he's come on.

Wicket!!! Clark finally finds an outside edge, Bell gone.

So much for hiding Pietersen at 5 to protect him from the new ball

If we can get KP tonight, I will be rapt - he's the BIG wicket in this lineup after Strauss.

I don't like the ball just zips off the surface when McGrath bowls.

Adam Gilchrist now has the 2nd most catches by an Aussie keeper.
356 catches. He now chases Ian Healy.

3/48.
If weget KP then the captain is in. After that its the tail.
