Does Wasim knows what he wrote? Groove back to the stumps? What this supposed to mean?

Just using the word because it sounds cool?

he has clearly no clue what Groove means

He’s poking fun at himself. There’s a meme about Wasim talking to Shaheen in the morning and telling him to flick the wrist and bring the ball back into the stumps, it’s his stock advice.

Wasim’s making a joke.

I like the song. It is catchy.

And lol people seriously have beef with the word 'groove'? Did no one go past class five in school or am I missing something

Groove very outdated slang word I've not heard any say this in years maybe since early 2000's

Its decent. Its a song no big deal.

I've heard the rap scene in Pakistan amongst the mid 20's ( i think) has really taken off. Could be related to that. Trying to mix Era's.

dunno what the fuss is about. I thought it was really catchy. But then I'm a bit of a stickler for camp tunes. lol..

not a fan of new age rap or rnb but as a cricket song that will be played to pump up audiences this is perfectly fine.

but nothing beats Jazba-e-junoon to get you pumped..lol..

overall I think you'll all be humming this tune and pretending you hate it lol..

Legendary Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has launched another scathing attack on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over the newly released anthem of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 6 on Wednesday. Akhtar, who is known for his unfiltered analysis of the gentlemen's game has been a staunch critic of the apex Pakistani cricket board after retiring from international cricket in 2011.

On Wednesday, Akhtar took an aim at the PCB by slamming the new song and anthem of the next edition of the PSL. Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Akhtar aka the Rawalpindi Express castigated the composition and vocals of the PSL season 6 anthem. Taking a sly dig at the PCB, Akhtar also joked that he will file a case against the makers of the song.

"Really disappointed by the anthem this year. Is this how you're taking PSL brand up? Going down every year. Kon banata hai yeh," Akhtar captioned his post on the photo and video sharing platform. Akhtar's tirade against the makers of the PSL season 6 song and Pakistan Cricket Board soon became the talk of the town on social media.

"If the 10 worst songs of the PSL are compiled, this song will be number one. Do you have any shame? My kids are scared of this song. When they don't sleep, I tell them I'll play it for them. That immediately scares them," Akhtar said in a video shared by the former Pakistani pacer on his official YouTube channel.

Talking about the forthcoming season of the Pakistan Super League, the PCB conducted the traditional draft for the next edition on January 10. The sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League will be hosted by Karachi and Lahore. The 2021 season of the celebrated T20 tournament in Pakistan is scheduled for a kickstart from the 20th of February. The summit clash of the PSL 2021 will take place on March 22.

Looks like Ali Zafar's PR team is in full swing once again! No wonder Shoaib Akhtar tried to diss the song, given that Ali Zafar and his trolls have been doing that since the past 2 years.

He literally relied on Google translator to get the meaning of groove ! This guy is an idiot of the highest order! Trashing the composition and offering his services as if he's world class musician! lol!

I found his roast of the song absolutely hilarious, I struggled to keep a straight face when i heard about his disliking of the song.

Not sure what he means. The song is pretty good and catchy. I know a few people who have downloaded it on their phones and are sharing it in Whatsapp groups.

Before every WC, you would have distributors compiling a collection of Pakistani Cricket World Cup songs in an album. Why can't all our musicians do that before every PSL season? Let the PCB choose the best song out of it for the PSL theme? Heck in every match you can play all these songs rather than just repeat one song.

I think its the best PSL song out of all the editions, something different and out of the box.

The beat will be crazy in a stadium atmosphere. Yes, the trolls are out in full force but they come out each year anyway. Don't listen to Shoaib, singing is none of his business but he's got a good brain posing as an idiot to run his YT channel. Shot himself in the foot when he was trying to figure out the meaning of groove, not realising one bit that the joke was on him.

honestly sounds bad it's a weird mix. maybe itl grow on me but the initial listen was not good.

Guys, I am loving this PSL anthem. I liked last year’s too.
We as society have issues when we got a female lead for a sports song. Just look at the music too, it is the type you need for sports songs.

I know there are lots of Ali Zafar fans who just want him to keep singing PSL anthems. It is time we get away from Bollywood type songs for PSL anthems. Last two years were different, and I am glad this year is different too. Shoaib Akhtar, though I respect his opinion, doesn’t know much about songs it seems. You need to be a progressive artist to sing such songs. Simple as that!

Akhtar Bhai getting it in the neck for his criticism!

A day after legendary Pakistani pacer took a sly dig at the newly released anthem of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 6, actress Anoushey Ashraf and singer-songwriter Farhan Saeed have extended their support to the makers of the song - Groove Mera. Akhtar, who has remained at loggerheads with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had called out the song makers of the PSL season 6 on Wednesday.

Known for his sly digs and controversial remarks about the Pakistan national team, Akhtar had launched a fresh attack on PCB when the former cricketer came up with a hilarious roast of the PSL 6 anthem on his YouTube channel. Taking cognisance of Akhtar's hilarious jibe at the PCB and producers of the PSL 6 anthem, Pakistani celebs have slammed the Rawalpindi Express for his unsavoury remarks and observations about the song Groove Mera.

“Oh dear, this is in bad taste. One thing to not like a song, another thing to run down artists, musicians this way,” Ashraf wrote on Instagram. “Big fan of Shoaib Akhtar but not the way he’s bashing the new anthem. Some people, including many of your friends, fans and family, like the track,” the Pakistani VJ and actress added.

Talking about Akhtar's takedown of the PSL 6 anthem, the former cricketer and full-time pundit had also joked about filing a case against the PCB over the newly released song Groove Mera. "If the 10 worst songs of the PSL are compiled, this song will be number one. Do you have any shame? My kids are scared of this song. When they don't sleep, I tell them I'll play it for them. That immediately scares them," Akhtar had said on his official YouTube channel. Performed by Naseebo Lal, Aima Baig, and the Young Stunners, the song Groove Mera has already garnered over 5 million views on YouTube.

Rightfully Shoaib is criticized. It is another thing to bash pcb, which is his typical fashion, but how can you bash song makers knowing well that you don’t know much about singing. He is especially doing this for Ali Zafar, and nothing else.

On the others and, Ali Zafar and his PR team has a habit of criticizing psl anthems that are not performed by him. Last year was no different where Ali Azmat’s song was criticized, that also starred the great Arif Lohar.

The new generation of human beings (the millennials) all around the world are overall great disappointment when it comes to art, music, creativity, intellect etc. I call them ticktock or PUBG generation.

I agree with you.

THE anthem that sets the Pakistan Super League (PSL) extravaganza in motion annually has this year left the nation divided, with some criticising the concept behind the song as uninspiring and others coming out in support of local musical talent.

Titled Groove Mera, the PSL VI anthem elicited a wide range of reactions from social media users when it was released on February 6. The song is a blend of the powerful vocals of prolific singer Naseebo Lal, rap by the Young Stunners, and pop singer Aima Baig’s voice.

Although the reaction to the anthem has been mixed, and prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to come to its defence, its music video garnered more than 5.5 million views on YouTube in a matter of five days.

The lyrics emphasise how this year’s PSL — which begins on Feb 20 at Karachi’s National Stadium with the first T20 being played between title-holders Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators — will be mostly watched on TV screens instead of in stadiums. “Aaj dekhe gaa crowd mera groove TV pe (the crowd will see my groove on TV today),” goes the theme of the song.

The music video also featured people watching matches on TVs, mobile phones and laptops and pacer Wahab Riaz patting a TV in a stadium, emphasising how PSL 2021 will be different because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement that accompanied the song’s release, the PCB said Groove Mera referred to “the swing and feel of the movements of cricketers” and to “moments of finesse that one finds in the heart of every cricket match”.

According to the board, the anthem is “a celebration of Pakistan’s musical diversity” and features artists from opposite ends of the country’s musical spectrum.

Reacting to the song, some on Twitter said it did not meet the high expectations they had from the anthem of what is effectively Pakistan’s biggest sporting event.

But the controversy over the song gained strength when former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar bashed the production, terming it a bad song with a bad composition.

“Aren’t you ashamed?” he asked the makers of the song in a nine-minute ‘review’ of it on his YouTube channel, saying the anthem had scared his children.

“My kid hasn’t spoken in three days because of this song. The people who sang this song have no idea what groove even means,” Akhtar added.

On the other side of the debate, however, supporters of the song applaud its out-of-the-box concept and catchy beat, with one Twitter user terming it an “amazing combination of modern and traditional music”.

A number of celebrities called out Akhtar for “degrading” the artists’ efforts and came out in defence of Naseebo Lal. “It’s very easy to be keyboard warriors and shred someone’s hard work to pieces. How ungrateful to forget so conveniently all the melodious songs Naseebo Lal has given us,” actor Adnan Siddiqui tweeted.

A spokesperson told Dawn that the concept was to feature voices that had not been a part of previous PSL anthems.

“Naseebo Lal is an extremely talented, underutilised vocalist whose voice has the strength to carry this cricket anthem,” the official said, adding that Aima Baig brought a young energy to the composition, while Young Stunners were a natural choice for the line-up, being leaders in the local hip-hop scene of Pakistan.

“Cricket and music have always formed a natural union in Pakistan. The thought process was to pave the way for a new sound of cricket in Pakistan that appeals to the multi-dimensional audience that comes with Pakistan’s biggest cricketing event,” the spokesperson said.

Groove Mera — a blend of Naseebo Lal, Aima Baig and Young Stunners — was released on February 7 to mixed reactions. There were some who loved the song and the mix of traditional and rising stars, while others did not like it at all.

Speaking to ProPakistani, Ajmal revealed to host that he is not a fan of the anthem because he found it underwhelming.

He said that he does not think “Groove Mera” can be a cricket anthem, expressing his preference for Ab Khel Jamay Gaa sung by singer-turned-actor Ali Zafar.

But, he said, at the end of the day, the song did not matter as Islamabad [United] will have to make the opposition sing to their tunes.

Everyone is talking about it and they are playing the song when thinking about the PSL. The song has achieved its objective

Sounded fantastic in the stadium too during the South Africa matches. That’s what matters, not the Spotify playlist.

Given the PSL organisers are in the mood to experiment with music genre for the PSL anthem - maybe next year it’s worth trying Shaukat Ali or Ataullah with some tragedy geet , who knows it might work and be a hit at the stadiums.. and it can’t be worse then all this ‘groovy’ stuff.

The song's on trending in multiple countries and is touching almost 9 Million views on YouTube as of 15th Feb.

The boomer army and PR agencies of some disgruntled singers are working overtime but it's being carried by the younger generation. Young Stunners have a solid fanbase and it shows in the comments and views on YouTube. It's also managed to make a healthy like to dislike ratio so it's obvious that people are listening to it, and liking it as well.

Whether you like it or not, the song has done its job and that's the real bottom line.

Pathetic, cheesy and unnatural.

Too much false swagger. The rappers look like they are spoofing themselves. Tried to copy the synth-pop of today with overproduced sonics with meaningless lyrics. Feels like they intentionally tried to downgrade it, with aima baig pronouncing crowd as carowd etc

The infuriating thing is when you have such a rich music culture with various genres throughout your history like rock, sufi, folk, pop, soft rock, ghazal etc, why would you choose a genre that has nothing to do with Pakistani music and forcefully try to copy the western crap like chainsmokers and pseudo rap artists with fake attitudes.

The first anthem was perfect. It resonated with almost all Pakistan young and old. The junk they have put out this year is only going to be liked by the youth that has listened to nothing other than the current music and blind followers of the individual artists.

Seems like PCB hired a 12 year to sign his favorites to compose something to please his elders.

Another question, why do you even need a new anthem every year?

I suppose we'll know more about this song when it's being played in stadiums with people there.

I doubt many people actually care about PSL anthems.

There’s no doubt that this is a terrible song. Ofcourse some people like it but on the whole, it is downright rubbish.

For that reason Akhtar’s criticism is justified. But on top of this, his video was hilarious. While he meant what he said, it was clearly over the top and exaggerated and for entertainment value.

However just by doing that, and by the song being so rubbish itself, it has garnered a lot of attention. I guess the adage of ‘no publicity is bad publicity’ does apply here and it has done its job. Those associated with the song should be thanking Shoaib. He provided free publicity by talking about it to his 2.5m followers. The video has been viewed close to a million times. I’m almost certain that every one of those people would have then gone to the song to check it out for themselves.

I watched his video. He is a toxic character and no surprise he is not part of the coaching set up. All those steroids really have gone to his brain. He needs some peace.

With this in the background at the stadium and the standard of commentary, it was a whole T20I series on mute for me.

They should have current and former Pakistani players doing PSL7 anthem next year.

By the way Akhtar isn't a bad singer. I recall listening to him singing some Mohammad Rafi songs at Headingley a few years ago.

The cringe anthems are part and parcel of PSL just like pop stars screwing up the US National anthem before major US sports events - see Fergie, Kat DeLuna, Christina Aguilera et al.

Just enjoy and move on.

Not a terrible idea. Something like a celebrity charity single they sometimes do. Lots of auto tune and a catchy beat... who knows.

Also really? Akhtar? Not what I would have expected at all.

He is someone who is smart enough to make a lot of money after finishing his playing career. Like or hate what he says, he has amassed 2.5m followers on YouTube which is no easy feat.

When you’re churning out video after video, you have to say things which keep viewers coming back. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. But he has his right to make money.

Best PSL song to date. The likes of Ali Zafar, Ali Azmat, Fawad Ahmed e.t.c are all jealous for having missed out.

Still time to change it, give Junoon or Strings half a day and they'll come up with something much better or get Coke studio involved. Coke should also look to become a major sponsor of PSL as pepsi has taken all the limelight of Pakistan cricket for the past few decades.

Not sure why they'd want to change a perfectly good song. Also, Junoon doesn't exist anymore.

I almost listen to it daily, it's getting on my mind pretty quickly , didn't expect the anthem to be this good , heck I even to like the rap crap now.

People still don't get the difference between an anthem & a song? Jesus christ....

People have too much time on these hands. I can't imagine similar reactions from other leagues. I've never even heard an IPL anthem.

Umm

What on earth is GROOVE Mera. Horrible horrible horrible.

The lowest they've ever went in terms of songs.

99% of the population doesn't even know what the hell is meant by GROOVE.

Yet keep shouting groove Mera GROOVE MERA.

Terrible.

Come on yaar, you'll be shouting "Groove mera groove mera" once it opens up.

11 million views. The Indians love it. The song has done its job. The PCB and PSL authorities thought out of the box and got it right.

Feel like the song got people talking, I enjoy it but that could just be because I am a Xulfi fan

Just came across Zalmis song and that song and video with Abdullah Siddiqui is remarkable. Do check it out on youtube if you guys get a chance

In my opinion, that's one of the coolest anthems ever. Abdullah Siddiqui and Altamash killed it with the vocals and the video is unreal! I'm switching my allegiance in favor of Zalmi just because of the song!

Not meant for stadiums, rather for the fans of the franchise. Fans should be proud of that anthem

I think the criticism is a bit too harsh. It does have a catchy beat and since it is for a T20 league - they just needed a song with a bit of levity. It appeared to me that they tried something new. I really do not think it deserved the sort of vitriolic and vituperative attack that Shoaib Akhtar launched against this song.

So has the song grown in stature since the tournament began?

PSL stadium music, who is it?

The songs with the high pitched lady’s voice, anyone know the artist? Like it.

We were wrong about the song.

I don't know why we have an immediate gut reaction to hate on anything that is new.

The song is really not bad, and did not deserve the criticism it received at first.

It’s a good song, well done pcb and psl.. the same type of mentality from some fans regarding our cricket that’s held us back is being applied towards this song. It’s with the times, and has connected with the majority of people.

Watching it for the first time on Sony from India, the anthem felt so low key and devoid of any energy. It almost felt like the organizers were being apologetic and didn't want anybody to notice the anthem.

EDIT: My comment is not on the song but the 10 second jingle that is heard in the ground and also on the telecast ad

Heard this song for the 1st time on SonyLiv after the game got over & got hooked on to it. Listening to it on loop. Pretty peppy number :)

Cheers :)

Is it her voice you can hear in between overs? And is she singing the psl anthem or another song...(sounds electric through the tv).

I like the young girl's voice personally but Naseebo is a national treasure and honestly the song has grown on me.

I think Shoaib Akhtar’s criticism of the lead singer is too harsh and inappropriate. The song is very good on the loudspeaker. Plus the tune is quite catchy. It’s a 7/10

This song is now being played at wedding events and parties in Pakistan. Honestly the Ali Zafar PR team can suck it. Shoaib Akhtar should also admit he screwed up with his nonsensical criticism rather than now taking credit for making this song popular.

Groove mera is a masterpiece compared to one from Lahore Qalandars

Though actually the song is not so bad, but the players should definitely stick to

I don't listen to South Asian music, but the zalmi anthem is quite good. I was expecting it to be cringeworthy but was pleasantly surprised by the rock singer.

So its back now!

To be honest it doesn't sound that bad :)

I wonder why PSL keeps on wasting money on having different songs every year? They could use this money in luring better players or even on improving the domestic structure.
