Has BCCI failed to be a proper (and safe) ICC host?

For Pakistan, BCCI is a failed board and India is a failed country any given day regardless of one's own situation.
Reasons lay beyond cricket and more into historical mutual hatred.

So asking such questions here is foolish.

Didnt someone post a Time article about how poor the world cup organisation has been and the low demand for tickets by the usually loud, boisterous and big in numbers barmy army? There were many other negatives he also wrote about. Plus the writer wasn't Pakistani.

Why do some here just have an obsession with Pak v India, you know the world is bigger than just those two countries right?

Australia star Glenn Maxwell took the Cricket World Cup by storm on Wednesday as he slammed a 40-ball century against netherlands.

No other batter reached the triple figure-mark in lesser balls in the ODI Cricket World Cup. In the match against Netherlands, Glenn Maxwell reached the half-century mark in 27 balls and then scored the rest of the 50 runs in just 13 more balls.

After the match, Glenn Maxwell blasted mid-match, nightclub-style light shows at the Cricket World Cup as "the dumbest idea" on Wednesday, claiming they cause "shocking headaches".

Maxwell struck the fastest World Cup century in just 40 balls to lead Australia to a tournament record 309-run win over the Netherlands at New Delhi's Arun Jaitley stadium.

But a pounding sound and light show in the middle of the Dutch reply did not amuse Maxwell, who covered his eyes with both hands during the near two-minute spectacle.

"Well, I had something like that light show happen at Perth Stadium during a Big Bash game," Maxwell said after his man-of-the-match knock of 106 off 44 balls in a team total of 399-8.

"And I just felt like it gave me shocking headaches and it takes me a while for my eyes to readjust and I just think it's the dumbest idea for cricketers."

He added: "So I just try and cover up as much as I possibly can and ignore it but it's a horrible, horrible idea. Great for the fans, horrible for the players."

However, Glenn Maxwell's Australian cricket teammate David Warner, who also scored a ton against the Netherlands, however disagreed with Maxwell.

But the barmy army spokesman saying things are too strict and BCCI should fall in line with RoW. Well he is not the person in-charge of security.

If the venues security are not capable of managing the crowd without preventing people entering with things that result in them having to put their health at risk to attend and watch then the venue should not be hosting an international tournament.

Here is Warner reply -
I absolutely loved the light show, what an atmosphere. It’s all about the fans. Without you all we won’t be able to do what we love. 🙏🙏🙏

What put their lives at risk?

The rules have been same since last 20 years or so. If someone has a problem he should not attend the event.

No one begged anyone to come and attend.

There are rules, you follow the rules.

And no one did a favour to India to give it the hosting rights.

It matters because we are not children from 1945....

One can buy sealed water glasses.

All provided by the same companies that provide sealed water bottles in the market.

And no it doesn't matter. Bottles have been banned in Indian stadiums since 1999. This is nothing new.

Confiscating sunscreen from people with no availability inside the stadium for an 8 hour event in hot, humid conditions with a significant amount of seating at most stadiums not being in the shade is a significant health risk.

Again, if the venues security staff aren't competent enough to allow everyone to watch the game without risking their health then the venue shouldn't be hosting the game.

The ticket specifically mentions bottles being not allowed. People take tubes inside.

Watching match without sunscreen lotion is health risk?

If it is then they can apply it before entering the venue. No?

Again, the rules are there for 20 plus years and those who want to attend the matches are required to follow them.

India holds international matches and Indian security hasn't applied for any online certification. May be you should give these certificates to countries who struggled to host matches due to security issues.

BCCI is as bad a host as Pakistan is as bad a cricket team

Clean your God damn bird poop chairs, Use ajax spray and detol wipes

Skn cancers a risk especially for "paler" folks, SP50 sun screen's recommended to be reapplied every 2-3 hours when in the sun. Plus "paler" skins are more prone to skin burns under the hotter tropical sun, not a joke to be honest.

Actually chairs and the entire stadium is cleaned every day before matches.

The person who posted photos went before or during practice matches.

This isn't summer time.

How come these pale skins came during the Australia tour to India and attended matches without any problems?

Never ever seen such chairs at the SCG or the MCG and I visit the stadium and the museum at SCG all the time. I always stop by and pay a 20 dollar ticket just to Marvel at the view.

Clean your chairs 24/7, mushkil nahi hai. We are 25 million people, you are over a billion.

Indian winter are as strong as Northern summer to be fair, purely due geography and India being a sub tropical country. I am not arguing for or against the BCCI/GOI (same thing in my eyes), but pointing out going without sunscreen is a veritable health risk for certain folks and sun screens dont last for 8 odd hours.

Sunscreen would need reapplying every couple of hours, probably hourly in more humid conditions. Most people with pale skin would burn burn within half an hour on a sunny day, a full ODI of exposure would be enough to cause severe burns that would likely require hospital treatment along with making a nice contribution to someone's lifetime risk of cancer. Yes, banning sunscreen from the venue definitely is a health risk.

Indian winter isn't as strong in the north. Its different if you move south.

Rules have been same for 20 plus years. I have seen people bring small tubes to use inside the stadium.

We don't know how big a bottle of sunscreen they tried to take in.

I can tell you from experience that fans from certain countries expect to be treated in a different way. Because apparently thats how they are treated in other Asian countries.

They banned sunscreen bottles. People bring tubes and use it.

Big or medium size bottles are a strict no no inside stadiums.

All the Do's and. Don't s are mentioned there. People need to follow the rules.

Unlike other Asian countries, white skin isn't a all area pass in India.

Rules have been same for 20 plus years.

Have you considered the possibility that maybe that's not a good a thing, and that if many other sporting venues across the world can cope with not being so ridiculously restrictive on what's allowed into the ground then the Indian venues should be questioning why they can't?

Considering that it is is advisable to reuse sunscreen every 3-4 hours and even on a day night game you might want to use it twice - e.g. Once before leaving house (say 12 pm) and once around 3:30 PM

As an avid user of sunscreen, I'd say it's just criminal to not allow it into stadiums and instead let people sit in the burning sun. Who makes these stupid medieval rules ?

‘Took up the matter with ICC’: BCCI's major step for World Cup matches in Delhi, Mumbai; ‘no fireworks’, says Jay Shah

BCCI took up the matter with ICC and decided to cancel the use of fireworks at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi and the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Fireworks, light and sound shows have been quite the norm during World Cup 2023 matches at all the venues in India. They have added to the viewer experience and the festive atmosphere. The levels go up during India matches; it has been a spectacle. But things are set to change in the upcoming World Cup matches in Delhi and Mumbai. The BCCI has decided to cancel fireworks in both cities due to the rising pollution levels. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said he took up the matter with ICC and decided to cancel the use of fireworks at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi and the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

“I took up the matter formally with the ICC and there won’t be any fireworks display in Mumbai and Delhi, which can add to the pollution level. The Board is committed to combating environmental issues and will always place the interest of our fans and stakeholders at the forefront," Jay Shah said in a statement.

The decision came after Bomabay High Court took suo motu cognisance of the deteriorating air quality in Mumbai for the last few weeks.

“The BCCI acknowledges the urgent concern surrounding air quality in both Mumbai and New Delhi. While we strive to host the ICC World Cup in a manner befitting the celebration of cricket, we remain steadfast in our commitment to prioritising the health and safety of all our stakeholders,” Shah added.

There are three more World Cup matches scheduled to take place in Wankhede. India will face South Africa on Thursday. Afghanistan will take on Australia on November 7 while the first semi-final is scheduled on November 15. India are slated to play their semi-final (if they qualify) in Mumbai unless it is against Pakistan, which will then be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Delhi's Arun Jaitely Stadium, on the other hand, will host the Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka match on November 6.

Earlier, India captain Rohit Sharma had shared an Instagram story highlighting the poor air quality in Mumbai.

Mumbai's weather has been a matter of concern over the last couple of weeks. As per CPCB, Air Quality Index (AQI) in Mumbai stands at 161 on Tuesday morning, which falls in the 'moderate' category. The AQI was 143 on Monday morning while it stood at 152 on Sunday.

In Delhi, the AQI for Wednesday morning was 272, which is rated as ‘poor’.

Good decision. Hope other teams don't have a problem with it.

The 21st century powerhouse and world's largest economy and world's richest cricket board.

Who needs sunscreen??

Btw this has turned into a GOAT thread where the Indians defence is "you don't need water, you dont need roof, you dont need safety from scaffolding, you dont need food, stop complaining, we do this since 1999".

So progressive!

Sunscreens are not banned in the stadium.

No need to criticise a rule which doesn't exist.

I've been through many of your posts and observed that you're so desperate to laugh on everything which is quite common specially in Asian cricket grounds.

Like you laughed on water pouches which are very economical and helps in maintain security since we've seen many a times furious fans throwing water bottles inside the ground.

If you're laughing on it being a Pakistani, hands down since world knows what unusual things you have in your country..if you're not a Pakistani, surprised to see these reaction from people who are even having chapati (bread) in sealed pouches 😂😂

I am indeed Pakistan but I am British...where we can go to a stadium, no violence, no burning of seats, no need to be afraid of your own shadow and most of all, no water pouches and soggy chapatis.

It's ok if it hurts, I hear vaseline helps.

Nope just the risk of being battered by Afghans if you are wearing the Green top.....

Except that last time I was in leeds watching pak vs Afghanistan, afghanis tried to make a indian kind of atmosphere with violence etc....

Guys please ensure that you remain focused on the designated topic of the thread without deviating into unrelated discussions.

What's that got to do with Pakistani fans, cricket and wider English hosting of matches and tournaments?

Err chap werent you mentioning about violence??? Do you want to read up what you posted about English stadiums? Something about not being afraid was it??

The violence is extremely irregular. But let's stop the whataboutery (you can create a separate thread about ECB organising tournaments if you like). Can you tell me again how impressive water pouches are?

No whataboutery mate, you posted about violence and I refuted on that point only. On the rest I have earlier made my views clear. Infact post IPL era, high handed Indian police attitude has made violence in Indian stadiums as likely as snowfall in Dubai.

On the remainder, BCCI treats spectators with contempt.

this is not ipl, this is a world cup. maybe not host a tournament if you cant fill up the stadiums.
we are not interested to watch matches of other team, it's simple, what's hard to understand in it. I'm surprised why so many people are there to watch their games since we are a progressive nation and we all are busy in our jobs to fulfill our dreams.

Jobless people can take the leverage filling up their stadiums, also price of ticket is a concern as well since we have to purchase tickets in thousands to watch india matches while it's in hundreds in pakistan :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Cricket Association Of Bengal Summoned By Kolkata Police Over Alleged Black Marketing Of Cricket World Cup Tickets

Kolkata Police has summoned officials of the Cricket Association of Bengal and the online ticket booking portal following a complaint lodged alleging black marketing of tickets for Sunday's ICC World Cup match between India and South Africa, an officer said. The police issued notices to CAB and the online ticket booking portal asking them to appear before them on Thursday but none of the representatives of the CAB and the online ticket booking portal appeared before them, the officer said.

A case was registered at the Maidan Police Station on Wednesday following a complaint received from cricket lovers alleging black marketing of tickets "owing to the connivance of an online portal along with officials of the CAB and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)" for the India-South Africa match on Sunday, he said.

The complainants alleged that certain BCCI and CAB officials, along with the online ticket booking portal intentionally reserved a good number of tickets meant for the general public, making them available to black-marketers.

A senior official of the CAB rubbished the allegations and said that they were only hosting the match and have no involvement in the selling of the tickets which was looked after by the online portal and the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Already out of the semis race, the Bangladesh cricket team on Friday cancelled their training session in the national capital ahead of the World Cup clash against Sri Lanka due to deteriorating air quality and rising levels of air pollution.

Shakib Al Hasan and co. arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday after their defeat against Pakistan in Kolkata.
Bangladesh are scheduled to take on Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday.

Bangladesh were supposed to have their first training session on Friday evening but the team management decided against it considering the high pollution levels.

Delhi's air quality plummeted to the "severe plus" category even as the central government deferred the implementation of stricter measures under the air pollution control plan.

"Today we had a training session but the condition got bad from yesterday so we didn't take the chance because we still have two more days for training.

"Many( cricketers) went out yesterday and now they are having some kind of coughing so there is a risk factor involved and so we cancelled the training so that they don't get unwell," said team director Khaled Mahmud at the team hotel.

The last of the five World Cup games allotted to Delhi is scheduled for November 6.

Sri Lanka, whose players had to wear masks to combat air pollution in Delhi back in 2017, had played their World Cup game against India in Mumbai on Thursday. The following day is usually the travel day and the team doesn't train.

"We don't know what the decision will be (whether we will have to play here or not in the present condition) and whether the weather will get better or not and if it gets better certainly it is good for us and if that is not the case (and still we have to play) we still have to adapt to it and have to train tomorrow," said Mahmud.

"We still have two more days in our hand so we want the boys to be fully fit because these two games are very important for us," he added, referring to the Champions Trophy qualification scenario.

The top seven teams in the ongoing World Cup and hosts Pakistan will get to compete in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

On Friday, Delhi's 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) reached 468, placing it in the "severe plus" category.

This is the stage at which all emergency measures, including a ban on polluting trucks, commercial four-wheelers, and all types of construction, are mandated in Delhi-NCR.

The city's AQI on Friday was the worst since the previous high recorded on November 12, 2021.
However, during a review meeting, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) decided to monitor the situation for a day or more before implementing stricter curbs.

Is it appropriate to play the shankha during international matches?

I almost hear the sound of the shankha in every match.

Is it appropriate for pakistanis to find a non existent controversy everyday and complain about it?

I mean, since the start of the WC all i am hearing on this forum is complaints about the WC.
This isn't the IPL
It's an ICC event, pakistan have every right as do the other commonwealth nations

Its an ICC event hosted by India in India. So you will hear Jai Shree Ram or Shankha Dhwani as well.

If pakistanis have issues with India hosting ICC events, they can ask the ICC to take away the rights from India or Pakistan can boycott the event.

The daily whining is really boring from the fans of a pedigreed cricket team. This suits some minnow team fans not pakistanis.

Speaking of safety the Air Pollution has been a serious issue in this World Cup.

I can't fathom how the BCCI knew about this event for years yet did nothing to address this in hosting cities. We are now at the point where teams are having to cancel training.

It is also another advantage for India who are used to the smog while all other countries are suffering. Was this the plan?

Another mishap by the BCCI who did not put enough care and attention into the planning of this WC.

I feel very bad for our guys and hassan ali's kid. They have to breath that disgusting air. Air Pollution is rampant in India.

Its an issue only in Delhi. Usually Smog in Delhi happens in December-January.

You're feeling bad that Pakistani team played in far better conditions than other teams in WC?

A few posts here explain how Hassan Raza on national tv claims Indian team is given different balls to get more swing, the conspiracy theories are too entertaining.

Atrocious outfields, glitching technology, doctored pitches, unhygienic food, dirty seating, poor ventilation, overt bigotry, privacy breaches, bureaucratic hurdles, empty stadiums, power cuts, male dancers. Where do all the billions go and why don't Indians hold their board accountable like Pakistanis do?

Pakistanis can only whine, they know then can only dream to host such a massive event in their lifetime 😀

Not sure as a host. But as for the competition it's been poor. To many one sided games . To be honest it's been a borefest. 2019 world cup was much better in my opinion

Lots of international cricket has been played in Karachi and Lahore. I've not seen any instances of teams being unable to train, feeling sick and almost having seizures.
The funny thing is, every indian who read your post are probably doing google searches to find something on pakistan instead of focus on the thread

No nation is perfect not even India or Pakistan, this is not about politics but about sport, Pakistan vs India has been turned into a political situation for years now

Air pollution is rampant in Delhi and Punjab (Mohali) because of farm burning for next sowing season. Maybe Lucknow but some local may know better. Bengaluru and Chennai pollution is low now, especially after the advent of monsoon where pollutants are washed away. Other venues too should be fine going by live AQI readings.

BCCI shouldn't have hosted games in Delhi, maybe some place in Rajasthan or Kerala could have been given hosting rights.

Well then rather than try to troll other countries you should be wondering why BCCI or ICC decided to hold matches in the Winter in unfit places that are harmful to human life....i.e try to answer the question in the OP rather than shameful deflection.

You made a claim about Karachi and Lahore. Please tell me about that.

How many matches have Karachi and Lahore hosted in November December in last 5 years? This should not be difficult as you said they have held plenty of matches.

Easy - how fearful BCCI/GoI is of Pakistan. Why else would you deny visas for Pakistan fans.
