Because this is a trivial and isolated issue. Indian Christians are flourishing and Christmas been celebrated all over India. I know you guys are desperate but the day an Indian Hindu does blast himself off in Delhi or attacks innocent beach goers in Bondi or attacks in Synagogue of Manchester we will also make hundreds of posts. Damaging handful of Christmas tree in isolated incidents is not that big of a deal in grand scheme of things.

Correct. AI is not always accurate.

Palakkad: A man was held in Kerala’s Palakkad district for allegedly attacking a group of carole singers, police officials told PTI on Monday, December 22.
The incident occurred in Pudussery on Sunday night when a carole group comprising of children was visiting the houses of church members. The group said in their complaint that they were attacked by a man, identified as Ashwin Raj.
Raj allegedly confronted the carole group and destroyed their property, including their band set and other articles.

The police told the agency that the area where the incident occurred on Sunday night was known to have a strong presence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Disruptions at Christmas Celebrations in Palakkad
This is not the first time Christmas celebrations have been disrupted in the Palakkad district. Only last year, three members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), an organisation led by the RSS, were arrested for allegedly disrupting Christmas celebrations at a school.

The accused, K Anilkumar, V Susasanan, and K Velayudhan, had allegedly entered the premises of Nallepilly Government Upper Primary School on December 20, 2024, questioned the celebration, and verbally threatened teachers, asking why events like Sri Krishna Jayanti were not being organised.
All three accused were booked under charges including promoting enmity between groups based on religion, criminal trespassing, and intimidation.

Charges Against Ashwin Raj
The police brought the accused, Ashwin Raj, into custody on Monday.
"He is already an accused under Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. In the present case, he was booked under multiple sections of the BNS," A police officer told PTI.
BNS Sections 192 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) were imposed against the accused, officials added.

The head of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church said that if the Union government makes no effort to condemn or control the attacks on Christians, it is because they are silently approving it.

Signalling a clear shift from his earlier position, the head of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, has spoken out against attacks against Christians and questioned the silence of the Union government.

He made the remarks while delivering the feast message at St Mary’s Church in Panayampala of Kottayam, on January 2.

Highlighting recent incidents targeting Christians, the church head said, “Here, today, one thing that we are forced to face are the attacks against the Christian community. It is necessary to create proper awareness about this. In a very wrong approach, RSS affiliates like the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad are attacking Christians and other religious minorities in this society. It is a fact.”

He pointed to reports in the media regarding incidents of violence and cautioned that it could escalate further. “We know that after the nuns, now it is the turn of the priests. After ruining the Christmas celebrations outside the church, it won't be long before they enter the church itself. Maybe, the coming attacks will be against worship inside the church. We must surely expect that.”

Emphasising constitutional guarantees, Baselios Marthoma Mathews III underlined the responsibility of governments to rein in extremist elements. He said, “Every religion gives a message of truth, justice, and love, but in any religion there can be fanatics. The people who govern the country are responsible for controlling such fanatics, regardless of the community or religion. We all have the freedom of religion and the right to practice our rituals.”

'Christians and Muslims born and raised here’

Referring to slogans raised during attacks on Christmas displays, the bishop questioned claims that some religions were “foreign” to India.

“Any person who knows history will understand what a wrong notion they are expressing. There is no Aryan or Hindu who originated solely from India; everyone came from the Iranian region.”

He went on to outline migration patterns to argue that no community could claim exclusive ownership of the land. “The Dravidians are not originally from here either; they reached India from Africa through Iran. However, they were living in the Indus Valley Civilisation until the Aryans came in 2000 BC and took over, seizing all the regions and pushing the Dravidians to the south. The Dravidians who thus fled and migrated south live in south India today.”

Questioning present-day rhetoric, he asked, “People who arrived in 2000 BC are saying that all ‘foreigners’ must go back. Who is the foreigner? The Aryans were early migrants. Before them, the Dravidians.”

Rejecting claims that Christians and Muslims are ‘outsiders’, he asserted their rootedness in India. “The Christians here were born and raised here, having embraced Christianity since 52 AD. They are citizens of this country.” He extended the same argument to Muslims, saying, “It is the same for the Muslims here; they were born and raised here. Therefore, that religion has the right to exist here, as does Christianity and Hinduism.”

Warning of the consequences of the Union government’s inaction against the attacks on Christians, the bishop said minorities would read silence as consent. “When they remain silent without raising their voice against it or condemning it, Christians or minorities can only understand it as being part of their programme. Everyone knows that if they do not condemn or control it, they are silently approving it.”

Shift in tone

The speech marks a notable shift in tone from the senior church leader, who in the past had publicly engaged with and expressed support for the Union government’s development initiatives. During a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament in April 2023, he had welcomed the Union government’s development initiatives and described the concerns faced by Christian institutions in some regions as limited and localised.

At the time, he had expressed confidence that dialogue with the government could address such issues and resolve grievances. The interaction, which took place in the presence of a Union minister, was publicly projected by the government as cordial and constructive.

Navi Mumbai: A shocking video has surfaced from Navi Mumbai showing a Bajrang Dal worker being brutally assaulted by a mob after he posted an objectionable social media status related to Christmas. The entire incident was captured on CCTV installed in the shop, following which police launched an investigation into the matter.
The victim, identified as Arjun Singh, runs a mobile phone shop in Navi Mumbai. According to reports, 20 to 30 people barged into his shop and attacked him using kicks, punches, slippers, shoes, sticks, buckets and even flower pots. One of the attackers was also seen hitting him with a plastic drum.
CCTV footage showed a few men initially entering the shop and discussing a mobile phone issue. Moments later, a large group stormed in and began assaulting Singh. He appeared confused and helpless as the attackers beat him mercilessly from all sides. After the assault, the attackers warned him and fled the spot.

Singh had allegedly posted a controversial status that read, “If anyone wishes me Merry Christmas, I will drive nails into your body.” Enraged by the post, a group of people entered his shop and carried out the assault.

A case has been registered at Rabale MIDC Police Station. Police are presently looking for the miscreants.
In an unrelated incident, Bajrang Dal workers staged a protest outside a church in Bareilly on Christmas Eve, claiming that Christmas celebrations had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. The protesters recited ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ outside the church and raised slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev’.

Navi Mumbai: A shocking video has surfaced from Navi Mumbai showing a Bajrang Dal worker being brutally assaulted by a mob after he posted an objectionable social media status related to Christmas. The entire incident was captured on CCTV installed in the shop, following which police launched an investigation into the matter.
The victim, identified as Arjun Singh, runs a mobile phone shop in Navi Mumbai. According to reports, 20 to 30 people barged into his shop and attacked him using kicks, punches, slippers, shoes, sticks, buckets and even flower pots. One of the attackers was also seen hitting him with a plastic drum.
CCTV footage showed a few men initially entering the shop and discussing a mobile phone issue. Moments later, a large group stormed in and began assaulting Singh. He appeared confused and helpless as the attackers beat him mercilessly from all sides. After the assault, the attackers warned him and fled the spot.

Singh had allegedly posted a controversial status that read, “If anyone wishes me Merry Christmas, I will drive nails into your body.” Enraged by the post, a group of people entered his shop and carried out the assault.

A case has been registered at Rabale MIDC Police Station. Police are presently looking for the miscreants.
In an unrelated incident, Bajrang Dal workers staged a protest outside a church in Bareilly on Christmas Eve, claiming that Christmas celebrations had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. The protesters recited ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ outside the church and raised slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev’.

Christians faced ‘unacceptable hostility’ over Christmas, says the Church of South India​





Church leaders in India called for governmental condemnation of growing violence and harassment of Christians over the Christmas period.

On December 23rd, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) released a statement expressing ‘deep anguish’ at the ‘alarming rise in attacks on Christians… during the Christmas season’. Then, on December 25th 2025 (Christmas Day), the Church of South India (United) published a statement expressing ‘its deep concern and condemnation of’ a ‘series of incidents’ involving intimidation, harassment, and the disruption of Christmas celebrations across several parts of India.

These statements refer to attacks on carol singers, vandalism of Christmas decorations, abusing those trying to attend Christmas services, humiliation of those wearing or selling Christmas-themed apparel and anti-national and Hindu-national groups such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), reportedly disrupting Christmas gatherings.

Despite the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s recent Christmas visit to a Protestant cathedral in New Delhi, illegal incidents against Christians and Christmas celebrations have intensified in recent weeks.

In 2024, India recorded an average of more than two attacks on its Christian minority each day, totalling 834 documented incidents—the highest in the nation’s history, as reported by the local group United Christian Forum (UCF). The incidents represent a more than 555% increase over the decade from 2014 to 2024.

The Madras Courier reported on the paradox that while the Prime Minister of India ‘was participating in a widely televised Christmas Eve Mass at a church in Delhi, marked by messages praising harmony, compassion, and India's multi-religious traditions, Christians celebrating Christmas came under vicious attack by members of various Sangh Parivar outfits’, which translates to ‘Family of the RSS’.

India Today NE reported one such incident, stating that on Christmas Eve, members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, Hindutva right-wing groups, entered St Mary’s School in Panigaon, Nalbari. ‘They destroyed and set fire to all Christmas decorations prepared at the school, replicating earlier attacks on Christmas items in various commercial establishments across Nalbari town.’

The statement from C. Fernandas Rathina Raja, the General Secretary of the Church of South India (CSI), shared that Christians engaged in the peaceful celebration of Christmas in regions such as Delhi (Lajpat Nagar), Palakkad (Kerala), Haridwar (Uttarakhand), Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) and Hisar (Haryana) and numerous other states have experienced pressure, hostility, threats, interference, vandalism and coercive moral policing.

The statement said: ‘Until now, we have never witnessed so many incidents, especially on Christmas Day or during Christmas celebrations.’ The statement remarked that these events raise a serious concern and asked: ‘Are Christians slowly being pushed into a situation where they can no longer feel safe or free to practise their faith? When even peaceful Christmas celebrations are met with threats or disruptions, it spreads fear and insecurity among people.’

Article 25 of India’s Constitution guarantees citizens that ‘all persons are equally entitled to freedom of conscience and the right freely to profess, practise and propagate religion’, but the latest wave of intimidation against Christians calls the implementation of this into question.

C. Fernandas Rathina Raja of the Church of South India wrote that ‘these rights are the foundation of our pluralistic and secular democratic framework. Any attempt to intimidate, silence, or marginalise individuals on the basis of their faith not only violates these constitutional freedoms but also undermines the ethos of mutual respect for which our nation has long been admired.’

Affirming an ongoing commitment to stand in solidarity with those whose freedom of religion is challenged, the Church of South India’s statement mourns for those ‘who have been subject to harassment during a season meant for joy, peace and reconciliation.’ It calls for ‘civil society, religious leaders of all faiths, and governmental authorities at every level to uphold the rule of law, ensure the safety of minority communities, and foster conditions in which all citizens can celebrate their festivals without fear or discrimination.’

Christmas Under Threat: CBCI Condemns Hate, Demands Protection For Christians​





New Delhi, 23 December 2025, CBCI: The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) expresses deep anguish and unequivocally condemns the alarming rise in attacks on Christians in various states of our country during the Christmas season. These targeted incidents, especially against peaceful carol singers and congregations gathered in churches to pray, gravely undermine India’s constitutional guarantees of freedom of religion and the right to live and worship without fear.

CBCI is particularly shocked by the viral video from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, where a visually challenged woman attending a Christmas programme was publicly abused and physically harassed by BJP City Vice President Anju Bhargava, and by reports of antinational groups disrupting Christmas gatherings. In light of such egregious and dehumanizing conduct, the CBCI demands the immediate dismissal of Anju Bhargava from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Equally disturbing is the circulation of hate-filled digital posters in Chhattisgarh, reportedly calling for a bandh on 24 December 2025 against Christians, which can inflame tensions and incite further violence.

CBCI condemns these hateful acts in the strongest possible terms and urges both state governments and the Union Government to take urgent, visible action against all individuals and organisations spreading hatred and violence. CBCI earnestly requests the Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah ji, to ensure strict enforcement of law and proactive protection for Christian communities so that the joyful festival of Christmas may be celebrated peacefully, in an atmosphere of security and harmony, across our beloved nation.

The Assam Police said on Friday that it has arrested four people associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)and Bajrang Dal for allegedly vandalising decorative items used for Christmas celebrations at a school in the Nalbari district of the state.

The incident had happened on Wednesday the four accused entered the St Mary’s School in Panigaon village and vandalised the decorative items there for Christmas celebrations. According to officials, the school falls under the jurisdiction of the Belsor police station.

The police said that the four accused, who entered the school 'unlawfully', were arrested on Thursday. They have been identified as VHP Nalbari district secretary Bhaskar Deka, parishad's district vice-president Manash Jyoti Patgiri, its assistant secretary Biju Dutta, and Bajrang Dal's district convenor Nayan Talukdar.

The four accused, the police said, even threatened the school administration against Christmas celebrations and raised 'Jai Shree Ram' slogans inside the premises. They also visited several shopping malls where Christmas items were being sold and set them on fire.

"They then went to various shops selling Christmas goods in Nalbari town and set fire to some items in front of the shops near the Jain Mandir in the town," an official had said earlier.

CM Himanta promises action​

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has promised strict action against the accused. In an X (previously Twitter), the chief minister said that his government is committed to "maintaining peace, communal harmony, and ensuring the safety of all institutions and citizens" across Assam.

He said the police have registered a case and a probe is underway, adding that the officials are trying to identify more who are involved in the incident.

"In connection with the vandalism at St. Mary’s English School, Panigaon, under Belsor Police Station, Nalbari district, the miscreants involved have been arrested. Assam Police acted promptly, and further action will be taken strictly as per law. We are fully committed to maintaining peace, communal harmony, and ensuring the safety of all institutions and citizens across the state," he Xed.
