Relax i can understand your excitement its good he has scored as it benefits Pakistan but dont read too much into it
 
30 average bat and possibly the best fifth bowler around with his economy rate. Certainly not as overrated as a certain Shahid Afridi. Very useful limited overs cricketer.
 
his 30 average is inflated due to bashing poor attacks

he isn't an amazing cricketer, he is a above average cricketer at best
 
Ramiz raja level batsmen which is decent and a very economical bowler that can quite down even the best of the batsmen.

There can't be many. Plenty have done it in Test series funnily enough but not sure about ODIs at all.
 
Professor cashing in on legitimately hopeless bowling as he bloody should. Minnow bashing should be applauded not scoffed at. Someone has to show the minnows their place. Well done brudda!

Haters going to hate. Saying that, Wasn't there a certain player who could not get his 100-100 for months and months so what did he do? He went and got it against Bangladesh. Not that am comparing the two, just saying don't be a hypocrite!
 
Mediocre player who sometimes finds form against weak bowling and scores some run. He will not be remembered much after he retires, the only times he may come to mind is if Steyn is mentioned.
 
Mediocre batsman.Good Rung holding bowler.Overall a just above average limited overs cricketer.

sachin has a whole body of work against quality attacks,so calling him a minnow basher is out of question.
what has hafeez done against top bowling attacks?(I dont rate sl and india as top bowling attacks)

and I think tendulkar was a greatest minnow basher and all time great FTB most of his centuries came in loosing cause , i rate inzimam and Lara much higher than him, they were match winners which tendulkar wasn't. Even dravid was much better than tendu

Inzimam and Lara in the same sentence.Thats an insult to the Prince of Trinidad.Lara was 10 times the batsman Inzamam ever was.Lara didnot capitulate while playing pacers from AUS and SA like Inzamam did.

Anyways dig up threads and you will see how good is Inzamam and how great is SRT.

And you can say whatever about SRT it means ZERO,because legends across the world rate him as one of the top 2 batsmen of all times.

I can see some bitter posts here.

Grow up and appreciate what he has done in this series.

He is a very tight bowler - he has one of the best economies for a spin bowler in the world. His fielding is brilliant, hardly drops a catch or misfields.
His batting is hit and miss - but he is averaging over 40 with the bat this year so he is doing reasonably well and has a had a dream series now. When was the last time someone scored 3 100s and two of them not outs in a bilateral series??

Sri lankan bowling attack is not great, one dimensional at times - about as good as Indias. But still you have to score the runs and hes doing that.

inzimam won dozens of matches single handedly for Pakistan, tell me how many matches Tendu won for India , zero single handidly and in tough situations like inzi did. I like yuvi and dhoni for their match winning abilities but tendu was a FTB and minnow basher

Btw the so called FTB/Minnow basher SRT avgs 40 plus vs every team and in every country he has played test cricket.Minnow basher FTB.LOL.

average all rounder, with no special achievements. He is no matchwinner in test matches and ODI.

No one remembers your performances against weak oppositions.
Even a single match winning performance against quality team in crunch situation is somthing fans always remember and cherish.
Thats why shoaib Akhtar is the only man i highly admire from recent past.

Yes it's true. She was ready to present the trophy to Bangladesh when it looked they were going to win but as soon as Pak won the camera showed her and her aides rushing out of the stadium. Shameful and definition of a bad loser.
 
he will be remembered as a mediocre player who turned into Bradman when bad bowlers are put in front of him. It shows he has the talent because he puts away the bad balls but I think he gets scared if the bowlers are big names like Steyn so should forget who the bowler is and just play

The greatest allrounder against mediocre balling on flat pitches. Sobers is nothing under the before mentioned conditions compared to Hafeez.

A player who is on song when he is mentally confident. Otherwise fails big time when loses his mental strength :P
 
Cricketing history will remember Hafeez as "Professor" . A bowling-Professor who managed ( and failed ) to sit in chair of a batting-professor.

A very mediocre cricketer, who was lucky to have played for Pakistan at a time when they were desperately short of genuine match winners; wasn't good enough to play test cricket; yet remained adamant that he was; wasn't good enough to occupy the vital cog of number 3 in testing conditions ; yet remained stubborn that he was good enough and refused to drop down the order; a good T20 batsmen who could play well in that format; bottler under pressure.

A self-made professor, who often tried to go above his weight but was found miserably lacking in that aspect.

A utility cricketer for Pakistan ,who perhaps played in the right era to hide his mediocrity.

How does that sound?

Hafeez is a very good, honest all rounder.

He is the most economical bowler in the world, he bats well in his favored conditions, got 9 and counting ODI hundreds. All this is enough for me to class him in the very good all rounder category.

He can't do a job in Testing conditions, but which Pakistan batsman has or can?

The great Saeed Anwar was a walking wicket vs Australia, South Africa and NZ away in their territory.

Inzamam and Moyo hid from the new ball all their life.

Ijaz was a hack who came off once in blue moon.

Tell me one number 3 in the country today who can do a job in testing conditions?

Hafeez is a better all rounder than Hafeez and is better than Razzaq who has been living on past glories since 2004.

Give me a list of the world class all rounders we've have had. People act as if we have been really rich in that department.

Only Imran Khan stands out.

Hafeez is not a world class player even remotely but he is not that bad as people make him out to be.

I fully agree with your sentiment that he has tried to push above his weight many times and was found lacking.

There is no denying that Hafeez is a sorry cricketer when push comes to shove and he was born in the right era but he has done enough for me to cite him as a very good all rounder.

Call it a gem or whatever, we cannot agree on everything.

Afridi is a highly selfish cricketer who caters to the crowd only. He is a showboat.

For 16 years, he has refused to change his approach for the betterment of the team.

In 2013/2014, I have seen some maturity in him terms of batting. He knows he is on borrowed time and finally looks like he is honest with Pakistan cricket.

Hafeez on the other hand is a honest performer. He has always tried his hardest which has also resulted in him punching above his weight like you pointed out.

His bowling is much more consistent. I would take him over a guy who takes a 7 fer than bowls filth for 10 matches.

When was the last time Hafeez ran through a team or got hammered? it doesn't happen.

We know what he will do with the ball.

But I don't mind him up the order because I know his replacement is likely to be found lacking.

Fair enough.

You do raise some valid points but in the end this is way I look at it.

Afridi is selfish yes, and a showboater, but his best is better than Hafeez's best. Hafeez despite trying hard cannot reach what Afridi does when he does.

Yes Afridi is huge liability in the team, but a lot of other players are also liabilities in a team like Pakistan, not just Afridi.

At the end of the day, in a team like Pakistan where we struggle to win matches , I would pick Afridi in the hope we win at least one or two in 10.

If it was Australia I doubt that Afridi would ever be required and Hafeez could probably slot in as a good all rounder in such a side.

I can't believe i am actually defending Afridi today lol.

There is no denying that Afridi is a maverick and when he plays well, he wins you the game.

Hafeez was at his best in 2011 and wasn't he as big a match winner as Afridi?

He was winning Man of the Match awards left right, made some record of 12/13 wins in one year and was the golden professor of Pakpassion.

However, through the course of their careers, Afridi has been the much bigger match winner if we follow your definition.

The sheer number of matches Afridi has lost us can't be recalled because they don't stick in memory like his good performances do.

His match winning efforts are so rare that you can count his last 10 best performances on your fingers.

In fact if you ask anyone to cite Afridi's best performances lets say since 2006, you will be shocked to see majority of the people would single out every single one of them.

This is due to 2 reasons:

1) they are very memorable.

2) they are very rare. Each comes after 20 games so you can pinpoint easily.

Hafeez had a poor 2013 with the ball and is now regaining form with it. Pre 2012 series in India he was respectfully a beast

Unfortunately for the team and us fans, he will probably be remembered as the best new ball bowler Pakistan have had during this period.
 
Greatest bottler in the history of Pak Cricket it will be inexplicable if he stays in the T20 team now
 
We be remember as a symbol of mediocrity that we had to put up with for a decade, pretty much shows the state of pakistani cricket was in to persist with such average talent
.
 
Looks the most likely of our players (technically) to succeed in NZ and Australia. The WC and any tours in Aus/NZ thereafter will probably define him as a cricketer in fans eyes.

I referred to Bayern Munich because they are sitting on top of the football world nowadays. In the same way, Hafeez is ranked No.1 in the world by the ICC.

My point was that you may not like him, and you may have your doubts as to how good he really is, but calling him 'rubbish' is just ignorant.

Well considering Bayern's opponents like Real Madrid and Barce with Liverpool, PSG, Manchester all being top quality. Who's hafeez' opponents? Jadeja? Sammy? Ashwin? Watson? Mathews? These guys are either mediocre with the bat or ball- neither of em are all rounders...maybe Watson is the only true opponent and Mathews is too young.
We don't have to dislike him to know how mediocre he is. I support him as a finisher and spinner but him hogging the top role when there's Fawad, Haris, Umar and Sohaib all being dealt with unfairly.

Agreed - Hafeez's technique is absolutely first rate. Class player through and through.

I hope now he is moved down the order to play finisher role.

Hafeez knows himself that this puts him more at risk of failure and failure which can win or lose a game.

If he comes through then he will stay for WC, if not then bye bye Hafeez.

Afridi has already lost confidence with him so the end is near.

I'm not really a fan of hafeez but who's afridi to decide his future.
 
Hafeez will be lost within 05 years of post retirement.

Afridi, bad as he is, and showboater, as he may be, will be remembered in cricket history forever.

That sums up their standards and difference.

He will be remembered as a mediocre link between a glorious past and a hopefully glorious future of Pakistan cricket. Owes his entire career to shoaib Malik being thrown out by Ijaz butt and a home season of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
